Saddharaja Windhorse Trading Right Livelihood Ordination Preceptor Triratna / abuse of employee, cult behaviour, refusal to apologize, involvement in triratna buddhist controversy scandal
Saddharaja is complained about for bad treatment of an employee during his time as human resources manager at Windhorse Trading.
He is also a preceptor and retreat leader at Padmaloka Retreat Centre, mentioned on the BBC website over an ongoing abuse scandal in his movement (just Google Triratna Controversy).
The employee was named Free Spirit and worked for Saddharaja in his shop Evolution in Ipswich run by Windhorse Trading. Saddharaja did not like his views on environmentalism, or his unwillingness to commit to staying in Ipswich long term (which would have been pointless as the shop went out of business in 2015), nevertheless, the employee in question gave 11 weeks notice to quit to pursue a relationship with a woman in another town. The standard contractual notice period to quit was 2-4 weeks.
Later in Free Spirit's working life, he applied to work at Evolution a second time. Saddharaja then claimed Free Spirit did not do much work, was untrustworthy, unreliable and had to be made the subject of special rules.
One of the rules was that he had to agree not to do internet dating (because he might meet a new woman and leave the shop again). During his second employement, Free Spirit was subjected to heterosexual abuse and his relationship life was strictly monitored and interfered with. He was required to disclose his relationships that he had out of working hours, and if they were disagreeable to the shop team or Saddharaja, his working hours might be reduced, or his contract not extended after Christmas.
One night he was kept back after work without pay and told he was going to be put in a box, and treated like a teenager, and if he did not comply with the rules, the box would get smaller and smaller.
Saddharajas employee Paul Edwards (part of the behaviour), later apologized unreservedly and sincerely for the abuse.
However, his other employee Buddhasiha did not and then later lied, deleted evidence and said he could not remember anything in an attempt to avoid legal liability, an act of bad integrity that cost Free Spirit dearly in terms of lost work opportunities later.
Saddharaja then started panicking and explained that Free Spirit could have a job anywhere in the UK, on full support wages, plus relocation expenses, in a shop of his choosing, as part of a management team.
Free Spirit no longer wanted to work in the shop and instead wanted to walk away with a good reference and move on.
Saddharaja then claimed he was unreliable, untrustworthy and did no work, and alongside some others in his Order, circulated rumours around the UK that Free Spirit was a bad employee.
This movement has a history of bad mouthing those who legitimately question the cult and its practices.
In 2015. Free Spirit caught Buddhasiha bad mouthing him and there is an email proving it, see screenshot.
Buddhasiha spoke ill of him because he raised ethical concerns about how the store operated, its recruitment policies and its attitudes toward those who are heterosexual. He has refused to apologize, even though that would have involved a simple 10 minute trip to a notary office.
Saddharaja was Buddhasiha's superior and thus supported/condoned the decisions he made.
Saddharaja has refused to apologize, and his Right Livelihood practices are somewhat questionable. He punishes those who do not want to stay in his controlling and abusive conditions of work.
What Saddharaja does not realize is that the pathway of relationships can lead to a deeper wisdom and emotional state of grounding. He also abused awareness because the employee mentioned above was way ahead of the current society curve in terms of ecology, environmental matters, ethics and matters of respect.
Saddharaja claims he is an expert in 'Right Livelihood' but his operations have been settings ripe for abuse. He tried to punish his employee (because out of self-respect he turned down a job anywhere in the country and instead complained).
Then Saddharaja claimed he did not do much work, was untrustworthy, unreliable and of questionable integrity (an unusual reference for someone just months earlier was happy to employ anywhere UK wide, with full privileged Buddhist renumeration and relocation expenses!)
Saddharajas business (the Ipswich Evolution shop) went out of business in 2015.
When one prevents another from exploring that, by being coercive in the workplace, one also degrades awareness, making a karma that prevents enlightenment. Interfering with peoples relationships is an abuse, especially if your movement is well documented for being anti-relationship.
Both individuals were not happy with the employee pursuing romantic relationships, but the same individuals were okay with other employees engaging in 'cottaging' and similar, so it indicates that these people are specifically anti-heterosexual, and discriminate against those who are heterosexual, and then speak ill of them later if they complain.
People should be careful of Saddharaja.
It is the opinion of the complainant that he should apologize for his role in the abuse scandal (for which some of his employees working under his direction and orders have done unreservedly) and resign from the movement.
