carhop always asking to keep change
Is it becoming customary for Sonic Drive In carhops to ask "Do you want your change".. I have had several at this Sonic in Sonora Texas to ask.. I think that this is rude and have never in my 50 years ever had a business ask this. Most the carhops don't smile, say thank you and seem to not care if you are there or not.

theft and drug dealing
Dated 12-07-08
Dear District or Corporate Office
Serious Compliant Regarding Sonic Drive In located on 1110 Blalock Rd, Houston Texas 77055
You have and employee that works at that location that lives in address 1111 Blalock Rd Apartment #310 Houston Texas 77055
I like to report a theft that has been going on for sometime. She was talking bragging about making a lot of money from work in Sonic when the Manger is not there. She buys here own bread and meat and get her co-worker that cooks & prepare the food for cash buyers only to sell them that food and they keep the money in there pocket. The cook also lives in the same complexs and is in on the scam. These folks have been also doing worse things then that (selling drugs in the parking-lot) in know that for sure! she has several men that live with her, ...I have seen her husband talking about the best way to make money is to put the drugs in side the Sonic bag to that buy from him? I can say that I know a lot about these people sence they live right next to me. I hear everything they say and do. I do not think that is right what she is doing and is illegal.
We have report this also to our Aparment Manger and made a petition regarding there drug dealing and having 7 men living with one women in a 1 bedroom apartment. Also I seen her Husband picking up 3 large Sonic bags up food every morning and in the evening when she still working and not paying anything. I go to that location to eat in the morning and see this going on an on everyday (NO MORE ENOUGH) If I was the franchise owner of this location I want to know if someone was ripping me off. If you need the name of this person I can try to ask management but I do not thing they will give out that information. She is a Hispanic women that lives near me, all you have to do to find out who she is, .. ask for employee file to match the address and apartment number.
Thanks
Robert Petterson

If the comment is bad enough just like this one yes they will report it to sonic corp. and they will inform the proper franchise
If she does live with 7 other people, things must be tough. She's probably doing what SHE thinks is the right thing to do to survive. Maybe you shouldn't interfere with her life and just live your own. If you're not directly affected by her "drug dealing" leave it alone. Its probably just schwag anyways. And if they are serving their own meat, its probably a lot better quality than the meat sonic provides them. I'd feel much better eating a burger that was not prepackaged.
Why don't you just go up to the Sonic she works at and report her there? You do realize that this site is not for the companies to read and respond to right? I just thought I would let you know so you wouldn't think you posted for nothing.
burned by hot coffee
To whom it may concern: I would like to bring to your attention of a concern i have of sonic drive in in Bay Springs Ms.This morning on Dec.4 2008 at 10:30 i order a cup of coffee with cream the car hop brought me the coffee and wit handin it to me the lid was no on it all the way, so as i took it, it spill on my leg my car seat and ouch i was burn on my leg which now has a blister on it, i ask to speak to a manager and the reply was the manager ask if i want napkins are my buck 06 back. This shows lack of concern and poor mangament.I called the owner and let a voice mail but guess what no reply as of yet from him. This is a small town and belive me bad words get around FAST!. Thank you sincerly Janis
They offered you napkins and your money back? How dare they?! I guess they should have come out there and hosed you off themselves.
How dare they bring you hot coffee. You should sue the crap out of them-oh wait coffee is supposed to be hot you ###! Go back to school and learn how to read and write, a little grammar usage wouldn't hurt either. My 3 year old daughter just ate half of a raw chicken strip-that is a legitimate complaint. Sheesh! Hot coffee, what kind of whiney ### is this?!
nasty food!
burnt/aged onion rings..dry old cold frys/I ordered a super sonic jalapano burger and a double meat double cheese burger?what the heck did I get? I honestly do not know/its dark and late and Im tired, thats why i got take out. Nasty Nasty! and to think I paid over $12. for this garbage.
address of this newly change in management store is.. kingswood at Hulen. Pass the word, nasty food under very poor management, this garbage should have never made it to my car!
Ma'am, I hate to break it to you but a Super Sonic Jalapeno Burger is a standard double cheeseburger + peppers.
poor quality food
We gave this location another chance after several years of not trading there. No surprise! The food is still bad - I really do not know how they stay in business, surely not from repeat business. A product has to be bad for me wo say I will not ever go back, but to also go through the hassle of finding where to file a complaint. Yes sir, their food is not fit to be sold to the public. The cheesebureger, the chicken sandwich on Texas toast, and that thing you call a "footlong"! What the hell is in that? The three products above just be sold as garbage. The hot fudge sundaes? The hot fudge tasted like sludge from a coffee pot. Your food is really awful - you people should be ashamed!
Sonic food chain is one of the WORST ive ever expereinced. I have extraordianry experiences at various chains within the same CITY, from employees wearing racist tattoos to employees picking acne while preparing food.
Ive contacte the compnay regarding these issues, and have even writter in to the CORPERATE office, contacted their silly customer compliant line (which is more interested in detouring unhappy customers to other resturants; rather than solving their systematic shortcomings in service and food quality). Out of all these avenues nothing, silence, not even a kiss our a** (well i guess that was the response lol).
Advice, skip the sonic and stick with traditional american fast food restuarants with proven accountability to its employees and customers.
management & harrassment
Continuing harrassment and isolation. Working the midshift (11am to 5pm), the management likes to leave the unfavored employee in the Drive Thru window alone. The Drive Thru window, according to the Sonic guidelines and booklets, requires between two to four people to run it fast and efficient. Even the customers have seen the stress, and have report them with no evail. Even having to recheck orders before they go out the window, the kitchen doesn't place the correct items on the correct trays, which today was a manager. He blamed me and announced it to all of the employees and managers. Everyone laughed and were rude. I brought up that everyone needs to please watch the bags when they bag up items. He kept telling me that I was in a bad mood and being rude to him, even though I had not said anything, except when I needed food. Late tickets are tracked and we get yelled at constantly about them. But they always yell at the wrong people. The management at this sonic does not ever admit they are wrong. Their new motto, "I can replace you in two minutes." Funny because yesterday there were two no call-no show employees that didn't get replaced, or talked to. They came in today and nothing was said. Consistancy and respect is horrible. The AM crew has lots of problems. The PM crew is awesome, and we work as a team, though there are a few minor problems but nothing like the day crew. So what do I do? I am trying to transfer to another Sonic, also asked twice to be only on PM crew.
Please email if you have good advice. Stressed and Tired of Disrespectful Management at Sonic Drive In.
although i see a bunch of lazy people i worked with some hardworking people but since the "store coach" in pa is the biggest ### in the world they all quit which is good i know one day they will go bankrupt i cant wait till the day that building burns down to the ground since the electrical plugs weren't correctly installed they don't care about hard work or loyalty whatever makes the checks bigger for the owner (who is 300 plus lbs.)
if your a decent worker find a better job
and its everyones job to check if the food is correct so don't pass the buck
God I hate that [censor]ing place! The sonic where I work at sucks! I hate working in the food industry, especially the fast food industry, it is such a [censor]! I can't [censor]ing stand the idea of working with immature, ignorant [censor] [censor] teens, the stupid policies made absolutely no sense to me at all, I read the employee handbook and so far it seems to me that nobody is abiding by the book. I get treated straight up like trash just because those [censor]ers there like to make me feel like I'm not a good enough employee. They always put me in the same goddamn position instead of letting me work in other positions. What's more worse is that my stupid so-called manager let me go without even firing me, since he wrongly accused me of not clocking out and took that as quitting, which was not part of my plan. I wanted to do that the minute I was able to get another job and to shove the uniform and all that other crap up their ignorant [censor]!
Charleston NC, I understand where you are coming from. These people should not be able to play games with peoples lives. My kids all have worked at sonic My son in law worked there for 11 years. He was the first assistant for many years. A year ago the owner of this franchise brought in his sisterinlaw to be manager and got rid of the old manager. The manager they have now has all the employees pitted against each other. She has this attitude like if you can kiss my butt the most you can be my favorite employee and keep your job. One of the girls that work there lives with her and one of the girls is her daughter. The girl that lived with her was dating one of the cooks, so several people came to my son in law and told him she was going to get rid of him and give his job to this cook, who by the way is a felon and strung out on meth. So a week ago my sonin law asked her about this rumor. She said no I think you are doing a good job I have some good assistants and noone is getting fired. My son in law is not uptight he said ok, he loves his job, my daughter, his wife works with him they open the store and rune it all morning themselves. Friday afternoon she pulled him aside and said she was letting him go because she can't walk on eggshells. This same time period another girl was sick and brought a dr.s note for her day she missed and the manager was mad and took her off the schedule and she has not been put back on. the managers daughter on the other hand had a week off for prom and was invited to a party so she did not have to work her scheduled shift. When she does work she ONLY carhops, she doesn't have to do any cleaning. The girl that lives with her is getting my soninlaws job cause that cook that was going to get it quit cause he did not want to be involved with these crazy women anymore, they would not leave him and his family alone. It is just absolutely crazy. The employees are getting treated like crap, treated very direspectful. When people come in to apply she will tear up their application if she thinks they are to fat. My youngest daughter and her husband also work there. When she went to try to get a job there this last time (she had previously worked there but left for a different job, under the old manager) She was told by this manager, I don't know I will have to pray about it. She acted all christian. WRONG! She cusses, she lies, she talks about everyone. Ha The employees are the ones walking on eggshells. I am a supervisor at a factory and I am just amazed I am not allowed to do or say half of the stuff she says.
It's interesting to me that some of those same complaints (and a entire boat load more) including broke labor regulations, favortism, and unfair treatment goes on at SONIC's all over the world . . . .
I know exactly what you mean. They opened one about a month ago and most of us are new. They're A-Team just stands around telling you what to do at closing, and have smart mouths. The assistant managers really shouldnt be assistant managers. The one is totally cluless as to whats going on and just stands in the way when things get busy, and the other one is foul-mouthed and disrespectful. I've seen him disrespect the manager many times and she hasn't done anything about it. I've also seen one of them sleeping in the back of the building. I honestly don't know what kind of workplace the manager is trying to create, but if the owner came in, I'm sure he wouldn't be happy with what he saw.
Hi,
In response to the original complaint, your completely wrong on drive-thru procedures. The STAR guides specify that an employee with adequate training in all areas belongs in Drive-thru. It is YOUR job to check bags before the go out the window, not theirs. Reread your guides before complaining. If your still not happy, find another job.
i know what u mean i too was left in drive thru alone and then was yelled at in front of everyone. my manager laura is a nasty person who is always talking about her sex life with her boyfriend. im not insterested in hearing about such things. she also has her favorites and im not one of them. im older and is just there to work. i believe in building up people not tearing them down
i have an issue i am hoping to get some help about. I have been a carhop at Sonic for 3 1/2 years now. I have never had any behavioral problems. I am not late for work. I work good and I work hard. I only work part-time, 2 or three days a week from 11-5. I have been on this schedule for my entire time that I have been here. I work a second job which is on thurs-sat. I work from 8 til 3 in the morning on that job. We recently changed general managers. We got a manager straight out of high school who just turned 18. He is very moody. He has a lot of issues with mood swings, hes medicated for it. Anyways, thats off subject. He personally doesnt like me. Last week, he put me on the schedule for the days that I work my second job. That was okay. Its hard on me, and he knows it.. but he did it just to back me in a corner. This week he has scheduled me for the entire week so that I have to work for him all day and work my other job all night, and be back at work the next morning again. I have a baby. Its real tough on me. Last night I worked until 3:30, got home at 4 and he had scheduled a crew meeting for 7 o clock Sunday morning. I didnt attend the last meeting. I got wrote up for it. That was fine. I understand that he has a job to do and im no more special than anyone else. He has these meeting every three weeks. I am dead on my feet. It is so terribly inconvenient for me. I have to drag my baby out and find a babysitter or take him with me at 7.. I feel like im being backed in a corner. I have loyally worked here without a problem. Nobody can say a bad thing about me. He hired a bunch of his friends. They are pulling no call, no shows and not even being wrote up for it. He is allowing them to work 2 days a week because they have other things going on like school. They have only been working for him for 2 months and he is working everything around them and making me take up the slack when he knows that I have another job and a baby. He is letting them eat all of their food for free, and he is also feeding his ex-boyfriend a #2 combo upsized, on a daily basis and never even ringin it up. I take his ex about 4 route 44 root beers a day and they dont even get rang into the register. I feel so bullied. I missed my meeting again this morning. I didnt mean too. I woke up in a cold sweat weh I saw that it was 9:00. I tried to contact him. I apologized 1000 times. This is my second write up for not attending the meetings. I have no other write up regarding anything else in 3 1/2 years. So he wouldnt respond to me. I finally got ahold of my friend who is a manager. She informed me that he just left and had said that I didnt have a job anymore. I didnt tell him that I knew or how, I just text him and asked him why. He sent me a text in all caps saying " I DONT HAVE TO HAVE A REASON, DO NOT TEXT MY PHONE AGAIN". its not fair. this is how i pay my bills. This is my rent, my life, my childs food.. just because he can? He has backed me into a corner because he knows that it is so hard for me to work 2 jobs in one day and raise a baby on my own. He wanted to gone, just because he doesnt like me as a person. Now i am jobless and I dont have anyone to turn to. The numbers that are on my wall, are numbers that you cannot reach a higher power for. I pulled the boss above him to the side and asked her if I could have a number that I could reach her at and she said that she doesnt have a business phone. They are like best friends. Its not fair. I have spent the entire morning crying. I know I can get another job, but its not right for them to do me that way. Is that right
Being a business owner myself, my managers must be spot on. If they are late to work, make a mistake in an order etc. They do not remain managers for long. Managers must be effecient, professional and above all else respectful to the employees and upper management. Drawing attention to an employee is rude and against labor laws. I suggest that you go to Sonic Franchise or the Employee Complaint Department. You will find these numbers at your Sonic, if they are not posted then go to the Internet and look up the Sonic Website and you should be able to get these numbers. Do not take this abuse, you have rights as an American and as a employee. Use these rights.
go to the higher managers or to the franchise cause the general manager is not the only one that can fire somebody like for instance if you see managers or crew members stealing and the general manager wont do anything about it you can go to the supervisor or the district manager and complain that way and if you don't know their numbers then that should be one item that you complain about if they do not have it on the wall where everybody can see it
no tips and disgruntled customers
I have been a car hop since March. What customers do NOT realize is that the car hop is not always the one who takes your order nor is the one who ever cooks your food and is rarely the one who makes your drinks and icecream treats. We work for minimum wage and put up with sometimes intolerable behavior from customers and employees and bosses only to car hop to someone who doesnt care or want to tip even for a friendly face. Many times, I have car hopped someone who was ticked off because their order wasnt right and I didnt make it. But I am out there scrounging for tips and I go to every car with a friendly face. But it gets so frustrating after going to ten cars that dont tip and one out of every 10 that do.
We walk all day with no break 8-10 hours a day and one to two bathroom breaks. We dont get to sit down cause there is no where to sit, no break room. And we work for tips we dont get because you get mad at the cooks. Place the blame where it belongs. Ask for a manager and have it corrected but dont blame the innocent car hops that are trying to make a living.
And I am sorry but if you cant afford to tip even 50 cents please dont come waste our time because if you cant afford to tip at least 50 cents then you cant afford to eat out in the first place. Ever wonder why sonic carhops are so skinny...get a clue if you dont.
Are you MAD? GOOD. Imagine how we feel having car hopped all day. 100 customers and only making a whopping 10 - 20 dollars and nothing more. Walk a mile in our shoes and then you have something to complain about. You are placing blame in the wrong place. And shame on you regular customers that get that extra shot of strawberries or vanilla and dont even bother to tip a dime. Cause I give it to you and you still tip nothing. May you gain an extra 40 lbs and never be able to get it off because you have no clue the calories you are ordering in your purchase. GOOGLE IT. Sonic is the only fast food restaurant that has NO light, less calories menu. Google the calories. You deserve all those calories for NOT tipping us poor carhops that DONT mess up your orders but smile and keep taking it from you and go home empty handed.
Shes not lying about the hours w/o a break, nor is she "lieing" (damn baby learn how to spell)! I am a Carhop off and on over 13 years! We are allowed to order food and eat it on the go while we take orders in and out. We used to get a 15 min break if we worked over 8 hours but that stopped. Food is only half off too, so that comes out of your tips. I also just dont believe 600 customers, I am the hardest worker at the third busiest sonic in america and on a 12 hour day I would top 200 orders (which is unheard of, most carhops do like 60-70 in a shift).
Yes we are constantly on our feet, nowhere to sit, no break, and relying on tips. I have worked plenty of places and this stands at the most physically demanding job I have EVER had. Think about it, hussing back and forth in that hot Texas 110 heat, sometimes going to and from a car 3 times bringing them all kinds of extra items and then NOT getting a tip. My sonic is very generous both tip wise and pay. I get paid far more than minimum wage (Im a seniority tho) and I bring home about 60 dollars in tips daily. Most sonics are a far cry from this. Be kind.
Ive worked at a Sonic for two years and if your working 8-10 hours with no bathroom break or a chance to sit then either they are working you to hard or your lieing =/ and after 100 customers your getting 10-20 dollars be happy you got something. Try having gone through almost 600 and leaving with only 3 dollars. Even though it is aggravating that the customers can be ### they dont HAVE to tip you no matter how nice you are being to them.
Plus you sound like they only hired you to carhop and not do much else which means you probley dont do ### to even earn the tips. At the one I worked at we did everything, even knew how to help the cooks if it got to busy. If the customer was ### that the order was wrong, either they didnt tell the person who did their order or you didnt check to see if it was right before you brought it out.
i could not agree more with you... i have worked at sonic going on five years now... i used to be the closer, but since i have seniority i am now the full time opener. if you come in the morning during the week, i am your carhop. i love my job, but i do have to say, customers can bring you down. and if you have a bad experience with a carhop, its probably because someone was just rude to them the way they were just rude to you. i have some customers that come everyday, that no matter how perfect i try to get their order, something is always WRONG. if i give her the receipt, she doesnt want it. if i bring her mayonnaise, she wants mustard. almost like she is purposely giving me ### every day because she hates her life. im serious, we do have customers that act that way. several. and yes, there are those that come in everyday and ask for extra flavor, or they say they have coupons and we dont take them up because they are regulars, and get free things every day, yet still refuse to tip. then on top of it all, we have the GREATEST store manager. we get called lazy, stupid, or what have you because if we've been gettin our butts kicked all morning, and he comes in and our chores arent done (yes we have a chore list also on top of carhopping) we are considered lazy, simply because we havent had the time to do any of it. im sick of the management personally... if i could move to another sonic where id get the same payrate and same tips id move immediately. 5 yrs experience!
I agree with Jenna. I remember going to Sonic as a kid, and my mother, who had never worked a job where you made tips for a living mind you, raised me to tip the car hops because of the work they put in. If I ever have a problem, I simply press the button to get it corrected. Now I'm not saying that Sonic is perfect, because I have had bad experiences before, but it clearly wasn't the car hops fault. I guess I'm a little bias as I work as a waiter, and unfortunately restaurants only pay $2.13 an hour and make you depend on your tips. The problem with restaurants is that it seems that the bosses and corporates aren't regulated as to how they treat their employees, thus you have owners who are abusive and scream at their employees over the dumbest things, and nothing can be done because it doesn't fall under "discrimination of religion, gender, nationality" etc.
I 100% agree. The carhop is rarely the one that has anything to do with your order other than make sure you get straws, mints, condiments, and your correct change and/or receipt. If you have an issue, ring back in and ask for it to be corrected.
I work in a Sonic and there is nothing more annoying than hearing my carhops complain about customers who fuss at them for something that wasn't their fault in the first place.
Another thing though, you may work for tips, but you make just as much as everyone else if your tips don't reach minimum wage. If you don't make enough in tips to reach minimum wage your store operator or whoever does payroll should adjust your paycheck at some point during the year. Let him know if this hasn't been adjusted.
Yep, she is right. We dont tip Sonic carhops cause we blame them for the mess ups in the kitchen. We should be ashamed. They work 8 hours on their feet depending on us for a living and we let them down, day in and day out. I for one am ashamed and will not go to sonic again without tipping. If my order is wrong I will ask for management but wont blame the carhops anymore.
I am ashamed to say I have gone to Sonic during happy hour and not tipped anything yet got the drink for the happy hour price. I feel bad and I assure you I wont do it again.
food/price
My name is denise and im complaining about my service at the Sonic Drive thru on Airline Hwy. I ordered my food and the service was horrible. First, the order taker gave us the wrong information and didnt know what she was doing. Secondly, we order a classic Angus Burger that was hard and a slushi. She gave us the slushi and on the price ticket is read $1.39 for the slushi. We decided that we wanted another slushi for later and ask for one with the price of $1.39. She gave us a slushi that was smaller than the one we got before! We ask them about the problem and they couldnt tell us anything. The lady went back and got a slushi the same size as the other one but this time charged us for a medium. Now, if the slushi was the same size, it should have been the same price! Please take this note into consideration. Thank you.
1.39 is the price of a small slush...they gave you the wrong sized cup and instead of throwing it away the gave you the extra for free...
shame on them for doing something nice.
Ordered 3 value meals, when order came out the drink carrier had a frozen coffee in it that was not ordered. I told the girl that I hadn't ordered it and she just replied for us to keep it. So my son and I decided to give it a try. As we took a couple of sips, one of the staff came running to the car and snatches it through the window and exclaims, "give me that you didn't pay for that!" my son was then saying he'd pay and gave him $4 for a $3 drink…and he kept it with no change and no receipt .… I guess he thought it was his tip for being rude and being made to feel that you just shoplifted. I won't ever go back to that Sonic again even if they pay me. Besides they are always getting orders wrong and take forever just to get a tea. 330 Emerald Forest, Covington, LA
I used the walk in at the local Sonic. I was not greeted when I walked in. An idle employee took one glance at me and walked away. When she returned I had to get her attention to place my order. She got my order, told me how much I owed, handed me my order, turned around and walked away without saying a word to me. I guess at Sonic employees are not trained to say Hi, Thank You or Good-bye.
Safety
One of daughters works for Sonic in our town. I have heard her come home and talk about them stealing her tips, cheating her out of her wages, not letting her have breaks and over working her to the point of her feeling like she is going to pass out amongst other things they need to be reported to OSHA for. Anyway, I am trying to stay out of it for the most part and let her learn and grow but today she came home and told how she slid under a moving truck and hit her head on the concrete fortunately the lady driving the truck stopped before driving over top of her and got out to get her food which my daughter managed to not drop. Her head hurting she went inside to tell her manager and he told her to "suck it up". She continued to have a headache for a few hours but continued to work. I am furious! The carhops are made to skate and the surface is far from smooth in fact, there are large pot holes they often hit. Several of them have almost been hit by cars a few times already and the boss and owner have been informed but refuse to do anything to make the work conditions safer. It's Sonic's responsibility to make sure it's employee's have a safe environment to work in but most of them are young and don't know they have rights so Sonic takes advantage of them. Shame on Sonic! I am ready to call OSHA.
My two daughter works for sonic in rolesville nc. You are right when you say they don't care about anybody but making money. When they started working there they were made to skate and if they didn't skate then they would be fired! So of course they skated. Then when their first pay check came, they both bounced. I called the owner Mitch Neal and told him he had issued the two girls bad checks. It took him a week and a half to finally get the girls their money. I had our bank calling me everyday to find out what was going on because of course they wanted their money. Then the girls where scheduled to work like 4-8 well they would work about an hour or so and call me to go get them because they had too many people working. The nasty and dirty looking district manager finally fired one of my daughters(who is 15) because I was out of town unexpectingly and didn't get back in time to have her to work. When my daughter called to tell her she would be late she told my 15yr old to walk, well her exact words were well I suggest you get to walking honey. She wanted my 15yr old to walk 2 1/2 miles instead of letting her come in late. She also took my other daughters tips because her register was short 4.00. Instead of counting everyone's registers she just kept her tips but she had took 100.00 prior because they were so busy and she had too much money on her. The district manager told her there was nothing she could do about it and if it had of been more she would of been written up for it. Also one of them fell while on skates. She had a huge bruise and knot. It turned blue, purple and yellow. It has been there for 3 weeks and they never even documented that she fell.
I started working for sonic last summer. I immediatly found out we were only allowed one fifteen minute break if we worked over six hours. The skates were optional, but our boss encouraged us to try and skate even if we weren't very good at it. I nearly killed myself trying (because I knew I would get a raise if I carhopped on skates) even with the close calls he still encouraged us to keep skating. We all finally got smart and gave up on it. I finally quit today because after I decided to try for manager I found out I was pregnant. My boss made it pretty clear to me that he would expect me to do all the same things a nonpregnant manager to do (ie. heavy lifting, grill cleaning, long hours) which I pretended not to have any problem with. The last straw came today when he was having a new sink installed by his maintanence guy. It was fine until he pulled out the plumbers glue/ putty/ sealant or whatever it was and the whole store filled with fumes. I dealt with it for a little while and when it got really bad I asked my assistant manager what to do. She told me to talk to the boss, so I did. I simply asked him to look at the chemical container the maintanence man was using and see what it was and if there were any birth defect type warnings on it. He refused and said there was plenty of air circulation, I would be fine... I dealt with the fumes about another hour and decided to walk out on my break. I have filed a complaint with OSHA and I hope something is done about it. They don't care about the safety of anything but their profit margins... I can tell you that from seeing it first hand!
frozen burger!
We ordered 2 Angus burgers at the Sonic Drive-in on Vance Jackson & Loop 410. We were shocked and disgusted to bite into partially frozen meat! Took burgers in and manager only offered to cook us new burgers (I tried to eat mine, but couldn't after the previous experience). Manager gave a lame excuse about why burgers were frozen. They were also out of the right buns for the burgers and after going into the restaurant, I will never give them a second chance due to the messy and dirty conditions.
Want an Angus burger? Bring your meat thermometer and check it first!
bad food
The Sonic in Caruthersville, MO badly needs to change their grease. I keep going back because it's ok sometimes, but more times than not, the food tastes rancid because it's fried in old, disgusting grease. I guess they're either lazy or cheap. But, I'm never going back.

We visited the local sonice tonite to order 3 simple things; a oreo blizzard, a banana split and a dish of vanilla icecream. There were 4 other cars there when we pulled in.
We waited for 20 min for the order.in the mean time one of the employers came in picking at his face and ear while he also had a rag dabbing blood from his hand! (We were told he was off the clock) so what gross! Then while we wait 4 or 5 other people were delivered their order, which was things that had to be cooked! We oedered ice cream, we called the cook and told them to cancel the order because we had been waiting so long, as soon as we did this, they came out with the order.
Needless to say after seeing the nasty employer picking his face and dabbing blood from himself we did not want the food! So be careful of sonic 1!
Blacklable:
Don't go to sonic if you are a vegitarian. I promise (and this is the case with all fast food restaurants) your food is coming in contact with meat. And maybe just try checking the burrito before the carhop leaves your car, just to make sure. Or if you do go back, show them the receipt. It should say some thing like "BEC BURR NO MEAT", and that means that there should be no meat on it, and they should fix it for free.
DHB:
There is a "no meat" button on the switch board. So if you put BEC BURR then hit no meat, you are, by all means. aloud to make it.
and finally to the person who made the complain, Gin:
yes, 20 minuets is a long time. But Blasts (not blizzards...) can take a long time to make and if the cup breaks (which happens alot) the person making it has to start all over and that takes forever. Bannana splits take a long time too. This is still and unacceptable time, but in the future don't expect your order to be out in 2 or 3 minuets if you get a lot of ice cream, seeing how that takes longer to make then it does to cook a burger.
The employee does sound nasty and discusting. But you never know, maybe it was his first week and he got fired the week after (this happens alot).
Why would you go to eat at Sonic being a vegetarian? All of our food items are meat or could have come in contact with meat. The egg in the burrito is meat? Were you trying to substitute tater tots for the "beef carcass"? That is quite uncommon, in fact we don't even possess a recipe for it.
That being said, we are technically not allowed to serve it because policy dictates that any item which does not have a recipe on file is not to be made in the store.
The End... Go to a vegetarian restaurant if you want meat-free food.
What is it about TN Sonic employees that guarantees their idiocy? This never happened when I lived in TX!
I come to Sonic late at night expecting comfort food, which should be fairly easy as a vegetarian. I'll order a breakfast burrito with tater-tots instead of meat. Every g*ddamn time, the people at the window say this is no problem. But when I get home, I realize there's a burrito with nothing but cheese and beef carcass. So I drive back and demand the burrito I ordered/was guaranteed. And, every time, I have to pay for a second g*ddamn burrito, even though I had to throw away the first one I ordered because it was filled with flesh I couldn't eat it, and I had to drive all the way back.
What is wrong with these employees? Do they hate the world, or are they incapable of understanding/meeting simple expectations? Do they not care about consumer ethics?
Either way...this is the fourth night where I've paid for two burritos -- one of which I have serious ethical objections to -- and I won't be back. Sonic could've kept me as a forever-customer, but their general disrespect/interest in money above-all has killed any loyalty I might've otherwise held.
Thanks for the disrespect, Sonic. You may fry your fries in veg. oil, but your employees don't care/understand what that means. Sausage and tater tots aren't equal, and you can *u(k yourselves if you think I should just eat whatever you hand me out the window. I matter just as much as the meat-eaters who pay you, you know.
If you have an issue, speak with the management or Sonic Corporate.
The thing is though, all Sonic's have in a place a handwashing policy which is strictly followed. They are to be washed when switching between stations, when clocking in, when returning from breaks, etc.
Seriously, relax.
I went to the sonic in blytheville arkansas. I was waited on by a girl named Penny. Well, thats what her name tag said. Do they hire anyone no matter what their appearance..I mean their upkeep. This woman looked as though she had not bathed in days. Her hair was greasy and clothes very dirty. I get upset when I see people handling my food when they are not very clean in appearance. She brought our order to the car and I gave her the exact change. She then proceeded to tell me that I still owed her money. I looked at the ticket and I recounted the money. I DID give her the exact amount. She kept starring at me like I was crazy. I think that the owner of this sonic needs to be more careful of who he hires.

chicken strip order
At approximately 7 p.m. on Sept. 12, 2008, we stopped at the Sonic Drive-In drive through in Berryville, AR. We ordered 6 chicken strips and a small order of fries. She asked us if we wanted the chicken strip meal. And I said "no, I just want the 6 chicken strips and the small order of fries". And she told us that our order would cost a total of $4.73. So...

I ordered 3 hot dogs at Sonic Dirve-In, the cook in the back was a black man and I watched him lick his fingers before putting my hot dogs on the buns and placing them in a bag.
I called back in & cancelled my order and told the man that answered why the order was to be cancelled. I watched for a couple minutes and NOTHING was ever said to the cook about licking his fingers then handling food. Poor Training by Management
This is disgusting and should have never happened.
This was on Broadway Street in Knoxville, TN
I use to enjoy going to Sonic Burgers where good hot dogs where good last night I went to get a burger rings and a Connie dog with onion rings what did I get a number 1 with cheese that had been setting around until it shrank to less then 1/8 of and inch hard as a rock, the dog wasn’t much better. I should have known something was wrong when my food got to me in record time. The only thing worth eating was the rings. This is twice now one more bad experience and Sonic is a done deal for me and further more I will tell all my friends and family to boycott Sonic burger from this point on.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Well, it isn't a Connie dog. It's a Coney.
How is it relevant that the cook was black?
I agree that it was rather disgusting for him to be licking his fingers while preparing your food and I would've fired him. However, I don't tolerate people referring to my employees as being "that black man".

bad service
This is at least the seventh time that I have gotten a hamburger from a Sonic where the bleeping staff interpret no mayo, no mustard as giving me just a bleeping slab of meat and the roll - no lettuce, no onion, no tomato, nothing but the frigin meat and bread. I am never going to order at Sonic again because the service is awful.

Today I went to sonic and got a cheese coney cheddar please (footlong) and a regular fry with cheddar.I was asked at the speaker if I wanted a regular or and footlong - I said it again "footlong" to make a long story short.
I pulled up, (Rickee - the bell hop comes out and started to hand me my food and says chili cheese I said no ma'am it was just cheese, so she just walks off, she comes back and has a regular cheese dog, I said ma'am it was a coney foot long, she then rolls her eyes and walks off again a minute or so later she comes out with my foot which is now correct finally just have freezing cold fries and hardly no cheese on the footlong and to top it off no receipt either. I go to this sonic on 6th ave in Decatur al at least 3 times a week and for the past 2 months service has gotten horrible and extremely slow, I'm lucky if my order is ever correct. Today I have had enough, can something please be done?
I'm not a fan of cold fries (but who is?) today I have no choice to eat them, bc I don't have a long lunch to be able to take them back. And with the service I was provided I would be scared of what I got back!
I went to Sonic the Northcross location like I have been for the past five years to beta route 44 ice before our Christmas party at work. I ate the majority of it and drank the water that melted. I ate my lunch and then proceeded to open the cup and finish my ice. I noticed something dark under the ice, there was a ball of different Colors of hair mixed with something green, some meat and all other kinds of gross stuff. I was throwing up for over three hours and still after two weeks can not pass by a Sonic without gaggin and feeling sick. I took it back after work and they were shocked and apoligized and told me I would get a call from the GM so I gave them all my info. As of today I have not heard a word from anyone. The worst part of this situation was being embarrassed and humiliated in front of all my co workers. embarrasse d and humiliated. I
I ate at Sonic often as a kid. I stopped a few years ago after my 3-year old was served an ocean water slushie filled with bleach in Quitman, TX. When I took it to the manager to report the machine had been improperly cleaned, I was told, "We don't clean our machines." Recently I decided because one Sonic is lousy, it doesn't mean they all are and I tried them again. This time I was at Independence Avenue in Kansas City, MO. My order was all wrong, (how do you mess up a burger ordered with ketchup and pickles ONLY?) the employees were rude and physically dirty, the drive-in itself was trashed and I watched someone pee behind the sonic sign while we waited for our food. I called the manager from the parking lot and he laughed and said, "What am I supposed to do about it?" My response was, "Nothing. McDonalds will do it for you." Wake up, Sonic. You can't replace quality with commercials and expect to stay afloat. Personally, I'd rather risk the "vanilla freezing mix", no matter how twisted, because I know the souvenir wont be hepatitis. "We're just too stupid to work here..." is not an effective defense, but it does seem to be true.

JUST SO YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU ORDER A BURGER AT SONIC. ALWAYS, START OFF BY SAYING I WANT A... CHOSE ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING: "MAYO, MUST OR KETCHUP"...NEXT SAY "WITH CHEESE" OR "WITHOUT CHEESE" ...AFTER THAT SAY " WITH/WITHOUT ONIONS, LETTUCE, PICKLES OR TOMATOES"... WE AREN'T LIKE ANY OTHER RESTAURANT THAT AUTOMATICALLY PUT MAYO & MUSTARD. WE WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE HELL YOU WANT IN IT. WE'RE NOT PSYCHIC. SO DON'T START ORDERING BY SAYING... " I WANT A HAMBURGER WITH NO ONIONS NO BLAH BLAH BLAH..." BECAUSE WE HAVE TO MEMORIZE ALL THAT YOU HAVE SAID AFTER "HAMBURGER" THEN INTERRUPT YOU BY SAYING " MAYO, MUST, OR KET?"... SOUND FAMILIAR? & TO BE HONEST, SOME OF US WORKING THERE AREN'T SMART ENOUGH TO MEMORIZE. THIS IS JUST A "LET YOU KNOW" AND I'M DAMN SURE 95% OF THE TIME, YOUR BURGER WILL BE MADE CORRECTLY. 5% IS BECAUSE WE HAVE SOME COOKS THAT ARE JUST PLAIN DUMB TO MAKE A BURGER. (LOL, SOMETIMES ONLY)

i went in on tuesday night which is half price night on burgers
i ordered 6 burgers

i got to thinking that's not enough for 6 burgers so i called them back they said they just had2 burgers
so i told them i wanted 6 burgers
so then on the screan comes up a new charge of 8.04
i called them back and told them i already paid 5.38 of that
they said to hit the button ok and it would give credit back on my card
so i did
i was there tuesday night on august 5 and i have not received credit yet
i have called them 3 times
now they want me to bring in a bank statement
i can/t believe this i go nearly every day to this sonic and buy a drink and a lot of days a burger with that
i feel like they are calling me a lier over around 3.00
please can some one help
why should i have to go to the bank and all that junk over 3.00
i even have my 8.04 ticket where i paid for them and it says on the ticket that my card had been used 2 trimes
can you help with this i sure would appreciate it a lot thank you
charge different price then advertised
Sonic advertises a price for its shakes and blasts all varietys and flavors and then when you order and get your bill they have charged you 25 cents extra for say the chocolate flavor in the chocolate shake. What is a blast without the stuff in it? just whipped ice crem. I feel like this is false pricing which is against the law.
I've been employed by Sonic for 3 years as an assistant manager. The way our system processes an order is it takes a base item and you add things on, customizing. So when you got your blast, say an Oreo blast as an example, the menu price may be 2.49 for a regular size. At my store we may charge 2.29 for the blast which is basically the ice cream, the cup, the lid, the spoon, napkins, etc. Then below that it will say Oreo which has a .20cent charge which totals up to 2.49. Double check to make sure that isn't the case for you.
Incorrect Orders
A sonic recently opened up in Pickerington, Ohio. I have visited there 4 times. 3 of those visits resulted in them giving me the wrong food. Check your food as the staff is apparently very inexperienced.

Me and my finance and our roommate decided to eat at Sonic's on the fourth of July, little did we know that this would be a huge mistake. After waiting at my car for 40 minutes and not receiving our order, we pressed the red button and asked about our order and they said it was on its way. After another 15 minutes we went up to the door and our waitre...

Carhops are service providers and are paid usually minimum wage and definitely not a living wage. If you've been around 50 years chances are you can afford a little change for someone who is working their [censored] off to get your food to you quickly, more often than not tipped NOTHING. How would you feel about your job satisfaction if your service was not appreciated. They are again Service Providers and not Servants!
You need to gather your facts as they are without a doubt incorrect. The individuals who take this job know what the pay was when they agreed. CARHOPS MAKE MINIMUM WAGE.
Waitresses are the ones with the smaller amount paid per hour that you may be referring to.
I know because I was a car hop when i was in high school having graduated in 1999.
When an individual keeps your change, it is stealing no matter how you portray it. This is UNACCEPTABLE and will make them think its alright and will possibly leave the door open to further illegal activities. If an individual wants more money, they need to learn more skills to further their career.
Ive worked at a sonic for over a year here in Texas i absolutely loved it ...
My only problem was management wasn't very nice they talked about everybody behind their backs and when everybody started quitting i was working 11 to 12 hr shifts by myself & we got paid 7.25 plus tips which was very good and all carhops brought home more than 20$ at our location
I see nothing wrong with them asking for change compared to them walking off with like you owe them it. They make very little money and some have families to support so i see nothing wrong with them asking for a tip.
More than once, I've been to Sonic and sometimes the car hops never even bothered to ask for the change involving coins. They just give me back the dollar bills and assume that the rest is their tip. The waiter did this to me yesterday for an order that came to just under $2.25. I paid a five dollar, received $2.00 in bills and the waiter was going to keep the remaining amount, which would have come to over 30% of the original bill. I had to ask for the remaining change back. I'm willing to provide a fair tip, as I believe the car hops work hard but I will not accept them taking my money on the assumption that is what I would want to tip them.
That $0.75 was going to cost you your mortgage payment I'm sure. Tell you what, swap your salary and job out with that car hop for a month and lets see how appreciative you are for what you have and how much compassion and empathy you can find for someone who doesn't. I Tip a dollar for a happy hour soda because I waited table and understand what [censored] the public can be when they expect their Service Provider to be a Servant! How about you get your [censored] up out of the car and meet them at the door, then you'd have no complaint!
I work as a carhop in Alabama, and make $4.00 an hour. We take out orders in 30 degree and 90 degree weather, rain or snow. I agree that if a carhop seems rude, or does not provide good service, he or she may not deserve a tip. If your order is messed up, more than likely it has nothing to do with your carhop, so please don't yell or take it out on us. In the year and a half I've worked here, I have never taken a break. I work anywhere from 5 hours to 11 hours a day. The carhops at my sonic "expect" to get $0.50 off of every order they take. Some people don't tip, some tip $1.00 and some tip $5.00. I have always read off full orders, smiled, and asked customers how they are. Even holding short conversations with the regulars. I love my job, but the money doesn't always add up to minimum wage. When someone says carhops don't deserve tips, they are wrong. For those telling me to get another job, I have three. I just don't appreciate anyone saying carhops don't do anything to deserve their tips. :)
I just went to Sonic in San Marcos, CA tonight and ordered a hot dog and mini tots for 4 something. I always tip, and i gave the carhop a $20 bill, and was planning on giving the carhop the coins. The carhop came back and said here is your change $15. I felt passed off and violated that he didn't give me my full change, even though it was going to give it to him anyway. I won't be going to Sonic anymore, or if I ever do I will walk up and get the meal myself and won't tip nothing. This really pissed me off.
for all of you that work at sonic, you should know that you are NEVER to ask a guest if they want their change, you are also not suppose to ask for tips, if you provide excellent service, you will more than likely get a nice tip, if you don't then oh well, that's your job and you knew that when you got hired. You are also suppose to run/walk fast to every car and deliver with a smile and read back the order, people tip those who go out of their way for them. that is what you get paid for. I have been at sonic for 5 years and worked my way up through managment if you aren't standing for the sonic brand then you have no business working there. you're not only making yourself look bad, but you are making the company look bad, your guest sees an unhappy employee and why should they tip you? you aren't doing your job so why should you be tipped for being rude? if you are nice and friendly and read back the order and do your check backs you are more than likely going to get a tip, most tips come from check backs. I don't know how most of you still have a job because if you worked at my store all of you would be fired, it obviously comes from poor managment, because I surely make sure my carhops do their jobs and if they want to be lazy and not do anything worth recieving tips for, then they get wrote up, 3 write ups and you are gone. when the customers gets involved, so does your job, you should be fired.
I have been a carhop for many years! I will say it is not a hard job, but it's also not an easy one! My example I am a very reliable dedicated hard working employee. I come to work on time clock in and get straight to work! I lift 50 llb boxes of ice cream on skates to fill the machine for the shakes you ordered! I lift 40llb buckets of ice so your beverages are cold! I stock all day/night long so that your order doesn't take longer than necessary to receive! I get chewed out for unreasonable things I have no control over (an item you think is overpriced) I freeze in the winter and burn up in the summer. My feet hurt at the end of the night because of the skates I wear for your entertainment and for the one of a kind sonic experience. I take multiple orders on the headset and on my tray. I do all of this with a smile on my face. The parking lot is full and you get hateful with me because your order took almost 10 min yet you chose to pull in seeing we were busy . sometimes sonic is understaffed just as much as it's not your fault it is ours neither! Talk to our hiring manager not us! So yes we do far more than walk 10 feet to your car. I am cross trained like many other carhops so I am everywhere helping out! When I bring your food to your car you may think the only thing I did was skate to you with a tray but the items on your tray including your food could have also been made by me! We have good carhops and bad but the good ones always get the end of the stick. I work with many lazy people and I'm dealing with this inside of the store on top of everything else and if I still bring your food to you with a smile then you should put all in all aside think of the things I just mentioned and TIP YOUR CARHOP!
I pulled up at sonic around 1 something in the afternoon oder my food I was sitting there for more than 30 minutes never seen my total on the screen my drink had ice in it I didnt want any ice and my food was cold.
Well lets see...where should i start? I have been working for sonic on and off for over 6yrs. I am not sure about other sonics but the one i work for is amazing! We go above and beyond to make our customers happy. I am a car hop and i skate all day long. Our car hops do way more work than any other worker in the store, besides our general manager. Through out the entire day i bounce around from one station to another. I take orders, I make the drinks and/or ice creams, I bag up the food and also watch the kitchen workers to make sure they are making the burgers correctly, after im done bagging orders i go around the counter and scan for the order then deliver the order (on my skates) to the customers. I throw peoples trash away for them if they ask, i sweep up trash off the lot that customes throw out of their windows, i ask if there is anything else needed and if the customer needs any other condiments or napkins or even mints, i go back inside and then bring them whatever they need. And just to mention this again the whole time i am bouncing from taking orders to making drinks to taking out orders or whatever I AM ON SKATES! My feet kill me by the time i get home at 6pm. I love my job! i love skating! and i love the fast pace environment! Luckily we have a great general manager that knows how to treat him employees and pays them well. But don't for one second believe that a car hop does not deserve to be tipped because they do! and also i have worked as a waitress before, at olive garden, and sonic car hops work 10 times harder than any waitress could ever imagine...waitress have about 3-5 tables to take care of at a time. car hops have over 30 vehicles to tend to all at the same time. Oh and by the way i am 28 years old not just some kid trying to make extra cash, i have three children to raise.
