This is the biggest scam ever. I booked what I thought was a great deal for a month rental in January for a July 25 rental. They sent me to America Car Rental (though it seems they also use the name Sonic Car Rental) to pick up my "Suburban or similar", (which turned out to be a Kia, which was the 1st warning sign of future issues coming). When I went to pick up the car, I was forced to purchase "All Insurance" which cost another $1,600. This was after I told them insurance was covered by my platinum AMEX card. They said that was not good. I then told them that I had personal insurance with Chubb which provided coverage far better than they asked for. They then said it had to be with one of 5 companies they listed, all of which are rated lower than Chubb. I had no choice but to pay their extortion as I needed to get the car. I never received a rental agreement but did sign an IPAD which they said acknowledged me picking up the car. When I returned the car they said the car was driven out of state, which I did not dispute. They showed me a rental agreement (which I had never seen before, complete with my electronic signature, presumably prepared from the "acknowledgement" on the IPAD) which indicated it would cost me $500 + $.30 per mile plus an administration fee of $250, all together, they charged an additional $2,400 and I forfeited a $1,000 deposit. I did not receive any information for Economy Bookings until the day before I picked up the car. If I had known of all these restrictions, I would have cancelled everything. I am now out $4 thousand dollars plus the cost of the actual rental. THIS IS A BIG SCAM. I am notifying the state attorney general, the Better Business Bureau, and will be writing similar reviews on all online outlets, including Trust Pilot, YELP, Google, Trip Advisor, Yext, ETC.
Claimed loss: $4000 in excess fees and charges
Desired outcome: refund of all money

I booked the reservation in January. I was not aware of any insurance restrictions until I received the voucher in July. The day before the rental. I was only told at time of rental. Never was I told about penalties for out of state use until I turned in the car. I never received a rental agreement. Your booking receipt said only that insurance was at my own risk. Not a forced requirement as it was covered by my credit card company. It was well after my ability to cancel the booking. Your reservation process is very misleading as all these requirements are not mentioned at all until you receive voucher. There are hundreds of poor reviews, clearly others feel the same way. The are deceptive sales practices and misleading at best or out and out fraud. I will be filing a report with the State attorney general and better business bureau. This is a scam.

In the confirmation email for the rental there are no mentions of insurance restrictions or out of state restrictions. Only a page of cancellation policies. The fact that all these added requirements were only mentioned the day before the rental and some after the return only proves the misrepresentation and deception. I am not the only one who feels this way as demonstrated by the hundreds if not thousands of complaints I see online. As I mentioned I will be filing a complaint with the Florida attorney general and the Better Business Bureau. I am also sure I will be able to get a class certified for a class action lawsuit. I look forward to your response. Govern yourself accordingly.

All very misleading. You can’t hide behind fine print or vague comments. The booking confirmed theat no insurance was taken and at my risk, then I am forced to take some arbitrary insurance from a small list of companies or forced to sign up for their exorbitant rates. The out of state was on the voucher received long after the booking. Very misleading. What do you have to say about association with a company with thousands of negative reviews? Clearly you believe you are just washing your hands of any responsibility by adding fine print. Horrible way to treat a customer. Does your company have any standards for who you send your customers? You must of been aware of these predatory practices. My initial conversation with the Florida Attorney General’s office makes me feel they agree with me. I look forward to hearing your response.
Why won’t it upload any files? The jpeg file.
just a quick follow-up: since Booking Group / EconomyBookings is a Latvian company, you can also report them directly to ECC Latvia, which handles consumer complaints involving Latvian businesses.
Their email is info@ecclatvia.lv - I’ve already submitted my case, and it may help if others do the same to show it’s a pattern, not an isolated issue.
