El Cid Vacations Club Warning!!! Scam

To all of you, my wife and I went on vacations to the beautiful Cancun this past May 2013 and we were attending a Timeshare presentation at El Cid, where we were convinced to buy a membership but based on lies, we were offer that we could use our membership at any time and it will include airfare, activities, rental cars and a lot of more things, well let me tell you that we tried to use the membership and SURPRISE! we had to reserve at least 90 days in advance... they used their "hightech" and showed us how "easy" was to use their program based in ponits, and at the end when we told the sales person that we could not afford it then they offered it as the best program for invest our money arguing that we could rent our points through them bacause as they have other resorts in Mexico they "need" those rooms for their Golf Tournaments celebrated in Mazatlan and conventions etc, (yeah right) also they told us that we could make some extra money renting some of our weeks because as "VIP" members we would have unlimited bonus weeks so we could rent them and make a profit (sure), if you want to use at least one of those weeks you have to call them and they will reserve it for you which means that you cannot use as many weeks as they said you coud do business with... we have tried to contact them and my wife is a latin person so we have sent them messages in English and Spanish but they just ignore us, we are would like to take legal action agaist them but if we join we could do something better, I have investigated the names of the "big fishes" and I got two whom apparentelly are the owners, so Mr. Julio and Carlos Berdege if you know of these practices of your sales team you should do something otherwise you will have to go to Court one of these days, I will not stop until I get my money back and I will post my experience in every paga on line

They will not pay you for anything. Not trade in timeshares, not rental fees and not reimburse what you have paid them. They are crafty liars and the laws in Mexico are so loose that they get away with it.

How did you get out? What did you do? I am in the midst of the lies right now. 4 months ago I purchased and El Cid has 6 months to pay me $30, 000 for my Wyndham ownership. I am scared (assume) that it is not going to happen. Help!?!?!?

Well, I can ditto every bad thing that has ever been said about an El Cid timeshare. However, we feel very fortunate that we got out from underneath the pack of lies we purchased. We contacted an attorney, and after a little time and some well spent money, we are under no obligation anymore and we no longer have an El Cid Timeshare! No matter what time of day it is, that's something that is worth celebrating. Don't give up! Get out! And don't fall for Frank Fallon as your salesperson! Lies, lies, lies...Blessed that we never have to go there again. Perhaps we may wander through however and gloat just a little:

El Cid Vacations Club Cancelled contract

After investing a lot of money in a time share. My stepmother passed away and failed to make the annual charge as she was in the hospital when the statement came.
They never sent any additional late notices, they just cancelled the contract with El Cid stating that we defaulted on the contract.
Now, they are saying that all the money invested in purchasing the tim share is just lost

I know how you feel, and it seems like this is a common problen in Mexico. I purchased a travel program through Sandos Playacar at Royal Elite Timeshare Resort in Playa del Carmen last March and I requested to cancel within the 5 day grace period but they still have not refunded my down payment of over $9000 US dollars. I have been in touch with people there and they say they are working the process but it takes time. It has now been almost 5 months and I am losing faith they will ever pay me back. This is another forum with more complaints about this company:

I believe we should do something about it, as I understand Mexican regulations forbid the offering of gifts, free vacation certificates or any other promotion strategies without informing the consumer the specific purpose of the offer. I want to complaint with PROFECO about this, and get my money back

Dear Carol,

My name is Liz, and our Company, CPC Worldwide, is specialized in helping people that have been a victim of fraud.
It's our job to solve problems abroad and I think that there's a lot of people on here that we can help. Our company was formed out of being disgusted at the way some people have been treated in the past and how so many people feel lost in a minefield.
We have other clients that have been defrauded by the El Cid resort If you want to get your money back, please do not hesitate to contact us.
I have realised I am not allowed to leave any email addresses or phone numbers, but you can easily find our UK company website.
I hope to hear from you soon.

El Cid Vacations Club Timeshare alert

those sales people have no shame. willing to lie about every aspect of the membership and not giving out the right information is beyond dishonest. They should focus on providing all the advantages the membership has to offer, without lies and straight information that way they will get to keep more happy members, rather than having a high number of unhappy members.

El Cid Vacations Club Rip-off

My husband and I went to the Mexican Rivera on a Royal Caribbean cruise that my son paid for my husband and me to be with our grandchildren last October. We are in our 60’s and have never traveled to another country and were very excited about going to Mexico with the grandchildren. When we arrived at Mazatlan, we were greeted by a gentleman at the tourist center who said we would be offered a free lunch at an exclusive hotel near the beach if we would go to see a presentation offered by El Cid Vacation Club. He said there were no strings attached. We were docked at Mazatlan for only a few hours, with limited time to sightsee, so my husband and I decided to have the free lunch and go to the presentation.

We were taken by taxi to the hotel to see a presentation and were greeted by two salesmen; Fonso aka “Poncho” Velasquez and Raul Gomez, there is a third salesman but I am not sure about him, anyway his name is Enrique Huerta (Employee ID 0530) because his name is on my credit card application. The salesmen explained how fantastic it would be to be able to go on vacation at their luxury apartments and showed us what the apartments looked like. We explained that we did not want to purchase an apartment for vacation, as we already owned another timeshare. When we purchased our older timeshare we were told that we could cancel in 5 days and they gave us their business cards and personal phone numbers. The salesman explained everything, including the maintenance fees and taxes that could be deducted when preparing our taxes. The experience we had with the Starwood timeshare business in the US was positive and totally different from the way that El Cid handles business.

The salesman proceeded to tell us that that it would be a great deal and we kept on saying no. Then the head salesman said that we could purchase points to go anywhere in the world and would be able to use the points for a cruises too, even having these points rented and make a profit from this membership renting my weeks to wealthy people, it will never happen. This was very intriguing; however, I was not explained exactly how the point system works and not told that additional points would have to be purchased in order to obtain the benefits mentioned. He said it would only cost $8500 to be able to go on a cruise every other year, and said that the year we did not get the points that we would be able to use the membership to go to any hotel anywhere in the world for only $91 dollar per week, which of course seems too good to be true.

When I asked the salesman for his name, he said it would be in our paperwork, but there was no business card, or any information in the packet of information given to us. In addition, I never received the welcome package that was supposed to be mailed to us. Every time you call to complain you’re put on hold and then get disconnected.

When you’re on vacation in another country you’re vulnerable, and you believe the people in that country; you think everyone is there to help you. The salesman said that this offer would complementing the timeshare that we already own and said we could sell the membership at anytime because there was a high demand for the membership. He also gave me an RCI bonus week certificate ($199) & another certificate for a bonus stay, in which you have to pay $470 for a studio apt. – since you have to pay money with these certificates, where’s the deal?. All we heard were lies, which we believed. When I signed the contract I was told that I could not cancel the contract because there is a law in Mexico that you cannot cancel; however, there is a right to cancel – when I read about other people who were scammed by El Cid – they said that you have 5 business days to cancel in Mexico, but El Cid lies and does not mention this fact. When selling a product you should tell the truth and not sell based on lies and deceit!

Unfortunately, I was misleaded about everything, I was told that the 77, 000 points would cover a cruise, airline flights, or a vacation at any of their locations in the world; however, you must purchase additional points to do so. We were told we could sell this membership at any time because of the high demand, but you can’t; we were never told we had to pay maintenance/assessments fees, or that you have to buy additional points in order to get the cruise or vacation. We were taken in and betrayed! What a rip-off! Why would I accept this type of membership in which you must pay to purchase more points, and then pay maintenance fees of $350 or more per year when you can go online and just get a good deal that is much cheaper? Renting does not exist, you can do it by yourself but you will never get what these crooks told you.

After this negative experience, I went online to check out El Cid reviews and read numerous deceitful fraudulent complaints about El Cid. I never knew El Cid had so many negative damaging complaints against them; it’s really mind-boggling that innocent people should be taken in, humiliated and scammed in this manner.

Everything should be explained at the presentation with no lies or pressure. These scammers take advantage of you while you’re on vacation and they dupe and intimidate you to buy something at the spur of the moment that is not what is portrayed to be. It’s unfortunate that while you’re on vacation that you’re considered prey in this type of swindle which should not continue and give Mexico a bad name. There are many wonderful and beautiful things in Mexico, but El Cid is not one of them.

Photos of salesmen are included.

The contract should be presented as it is, El Cid has a great advantages to bring to their timeshare members, the sales associate should be basing their sales on that, instead of making believe the customer is going to have some other kind of advantages.

El Cid Vacations Club Took our money and our timeshare

To make a long-tedious story short, we were "rooked" into buying a 19, 500 timeshare ( points) with the promise that they ( the agent) could take our points and "sell" them or "rent out units" for us every year and our investment would be paid for in five years. WE paid for the entire thing by our personal credit card. When we returned home, we tried to cancel, but could not. We have fought them for over a year. and they cancelled our timeshre for "non-paymment" 10 months later. So now we have no timeshare and are still paying out the $19, 500 on our credit card. They will not return any phone calls or even offer to make a deal to return part of the money. They just made off with close to 20 grand and never look back!

This place is a RIP-OFF and the agent are all LIARS! DO NOT go to EL CID when in Mexico. They are only out to get your money and discredit your name.

El Cid Vacations Club El Cid Fraudulent Sales Practices

On Dec. 27 we were in Mazatlan, Mexico and really having a great time with our family. The shuttle picked us up at the airport and provided transportation back to our hotel at the El Cid Beach and Marina Yacht Club. They offered us some gifts and a ride back to the airport if we would listen to a timeshare presentation. We were there on a timeshare stay with Wyndham and have been very pleased with the resorts we have stayed in though them. We at first said that we weren´t interested and the just kept making it sound better and better so we finally decided that we would go and listen. We got there with our son and his family and Arturo Guevara (our salesperson) started right away with being so friendly and telling us that he had something really great for us and that it would just make our Wyndham timeshare even better and would put it to better use than what we were using it for now. What was supposed to take only 90 min. took well over 5 hours because we just kept saying no that we weren´t interested and then Arturo would add some more things to it telling us we justs couldn´t pass this up and that everything he said was true.

To start with when we sat down Arturo asked us if we had received a letter in the mail from Wyndham saying they were going to charge us a 700.00 dollar fee just because and when we said we hadn´t received that letter he said "Well it will be waiting for you when you get back home, because they have sent it out to everyone. He said at one time he had worked for Wyndham and the were very bad for doing that kind of thing. He then went into telling us about the El Cid Club and that it was very different from our Wyndham because it was a club catered just to us as members. That El Cid had taken millions of dollars and purchased hotels and spaces on airlines and cruises, so that when we wanted to use these vacations that we would have priority and we would always be able to get where we wanted to go because of the club vs. timeshare theory. He brought up any place we named on his fictitious computer that we now know and showed us that we could virtually stay anywhere when we wanted to take our vacation. He told us that we could stay at the Ritz Carlton for 50.00 a night and brought that up with a date that we just threw out and of course there was availability. He took us on the cruise lines and showed us that for around 2500.00 we could take about 7 of on a cruise for two weeks.

He told us we could fly on any airline for 198.00 anywhere we wanted to fly and never pay a penny more. He told us that he could sell our timeshare for 70, 000 and by the time we paid off our El Cid and Bank of America card we would have 6, 000 to the good. When we asked how he could be so sure of that he said "because I deal with his everyday and this is a risk we are taking with you because we need to have your promise us that when you get this money you will send it to us"He told us that they couldn´t make this deal unless they felt for sure we would be honest enough to send them their money. When I keep asking where we would send the money he keep saying saying that we would get a letter detailing all the information when our property get sold and they would get the same letter so they would know right away to expect their payment. Thought out the whole presentation I kept saying if we would be able to have access to all the properties of Wyndham that we do now and he assured us that we would plus more. I keep saying that I wasn´t interested in dealing with RCI and that I wanted to know where I could see what we would have available to us and he keep putting us off with "There are so many that we can´t name them all. you have to go though our VIP El Cid reservations and they will give you all that information but only if you go through them. If you don´t no one else will be able to help you and since your are VIP you will have your own special agent to help you make these accommodations."

Well, now to go back on the things he said and the truth of the matter. We haven´t sold our timeshare and the only thing it did was open us up to many other scam artists out there wanting to sell it for us. We have tried several time to use the airlines for 198.00 and it has always been more to use than just going directly through the airlines themselves. The VIP customer service is rude and not helpful at all. We have tried to stay in hotels for 50.00 a night only to find that they don´t have vacancies and they can´t help us. When making reservations to return to El Cid this year we couldn´t get any reservations except at El Cid Mazatlan and we then didn´t have enough points for what we needed because we didn´t qualify for the 35% points discounts. On the other hand we are still waiting for the letter from Wyndham saying they were charging us another 700.00 this year for extra maintenance costs.

Everything we have been told is a lie. Then come to find out we only get a small percent of Wyndham properties that we can stay out which was something I asked over and over because there was no way I wanted to give them up and go with a smaller group of vacation spots and I did not want to be connected with RCI as our main timeshare.

This has been my experience with El Cid Vacations Club, I´m just another scammed client, even that I tried several times to rectify the information and the offers we received. They will do anything to get you to sign that contract, what supposed to be a free transportation and some gifts for 90 minutes resulted on a exhausting presentation. I will regret this experience all my life, right now I´m contacting the timeshare developer to request the cancellation of my timeshare and the reimbursement of my monies.

I hope we can get a positive response, please feel free to leave your comments about my experience and what you would recommend me to do against this company.

El Cid Vacations Club Timeshare fraud

Sounds like the norm for the sales down there. I have to say we bought at the Mayan resort and got out of it as it didn't feel like it was for us and we got our money back, didn't think we would but they were pretty good about it and surprised us. Once you leave the sites though it's tough to get back in to talk to them. Pueblo Bonito seems to be the best and most reliable of the resorts in Mazatlan. Have visited several and would stay away from most. We got burned at one ourselves and that was at the Torrenza resort. Stay away from there if you want any savings left.

Pueblo Bonito is not as nice as the Mayan Resorts at returning deposits. Pueblo Bonito has yet to return my deposit. So I would say that the Mayan Resorts are better than the Pueblo Bonito ones. I think the Mayan staff are better trained.

El Cid Vacations Club Alert! Timeshare fraud

FRAUD ALERT FOR ALL EL CID RESORT TIMESHARE PRESENTATIONS!
January 8, 2010

We were frauded by El Cid Vacation Resorts by Fernando Alonzo Gonzalez, General Manager, out of $14239.75 (+ $39500 to be paid) while we were on our honeymoon at the El Cid Marina in Mazatlan, Mexico on [protected]. In total Fernando Alonzo Gonzalez has the intent to fraud us out of about $54, 000 plus various fees. He has falsified our signatures and altered the original contract.

Pretty much everything that happened to all these people at these websites, happened to us. Look up these websites. The complaints are ENORMOUS!

http://www.gonzalezgonzalezlawfirm.com/project/el_cid_resorts_timeshare-2

We were lured to a presentation on 12-21-2009 and promised no payments, no interest, 2 weeks Lifetime ALL-INCLUSIVE benefits for two people at EL CID Resorts in Mazatlan and EL CID in Puerto Morales.
We we given 3 Free Vacation Weeks, two at the new resort El Cid purchased in Spain and one week at their new property in England. We were told by Fernando Alonzo Gonzales - General Manager, we would have "all the normal fees for these vacation weeks waived PLUS El Cid Vacation would also pay for all our food and drink while we were at these resorts and all we would have to pay for would be our airfare."
The certificates we received say we pay from $496.00 to $539.00 for a one bedroom and we pay all our own food and drink. We were lied to.

All these things promised by Fernando Alonzo Gonzalez have turned out to be lies and were not documented. The exchange of my timeshares were not documented either. We just now received our first and only set of papers and a falsified Contract with fraudulent signatures today 1-8-2010. Our signatures have been photocopied and placed on documents we never signed or have ever seen before today 1-8-2010!

Fernando Alonzo Gonzalez told us that we would not have to pay any cash except a "security fee of $14, 275" this fee was to hold the deal until my 3 Wyndham timeshares transferred. We were told we were making an even exchange by selling El Cid Vacation Resorts my three weeks of timeshare with Wyndham Vacations Resort for three weeks of their timeshare program and the $14, 275 was only a security fee that would be returned to us when Fernando Alonzo Gonzalez received the Deeds to our timeshares. This is not in the falsified contract.

Fernando Alonzo Gonzalez never provided us with a copy of a contract while we were at the resort! We felt this was suspicious! ( DAHH!)We went to Fernando Alonzo Gonzalez the next day and a second time 2 days later and said we wanted a copy of everything we had signed and of their promises in the contract. They finally gave us a CD the day before we left Mazatlan and told us it had " EVERYTHING" on it. But they had no computers available for our use at the resort. They were not willing to give us any paper copies of the papers we signed!

We asked if we could cancel our contract since they could not provide us a hard paper copy of it. They said you don't have any days to cancel a timeshare contract in Mexico. We have since found out that is untrue. Mexico gives you 5 days to cancel. Anyway, we got home and Fernando Alonzo Gonzalez had given us a blank CD. After many phone calls and emails to the salesman, Fernando Alonzo Gonzalez, at El Cid Marina Beach in Mazatlan, he mailed us a paper copy which we recieved today 1-8-2010. It is not signed by anyone at the El Cid. Their are none of the benefits promised and the contract has had many items changed on it and our signatures photocopied and placed on documents I know we did not sign! It does not include any of the benefits or even the sale of my timeshares in the contract. Some of our signatures have been photocopied onto forms we did not sign or even see. El Cid Vacation Resorts is simply trying to bill us over $48, 000 that we never agreed to. They already billed us $14239.75 on the RCI Charge Card that Fernando Alonzo Gonzalez insisted we apply for " to secure our deal until my timeshares we transferred". In the " false frauded contract" we received today it says the $14239.75 is a downpayment!

Fernando Alonzo insisted we apply for the new RCI Mastercard. He told us that El Cid Vacation Resorts would make all the payments and pay the 2% interest until my timeshares were transferred. He knew a new charge card would not have a FRAUD insurance policy on it at our bank.

We closed the RCI Bank of America Charge Card with the fraudulent charges of $14239.75 on it by Ventas Timeshares ( alias El Cid vacation resorts). We reported this to Bank of America Fraud Dept. and Wyndham Title Department.
Here are reports from all the other people who have been frauded just like us.

The last two are people who canhelp you if you get frauded!

Here are the charges we have accrued so far. $14, 239.75 plus the falsified contract we received today says we must pay $420.00 for %12.00 interest per annum plus $85.00 El Cid monthly membership fees. We never signed to agree to any of this. Our signatures have been copied and put on forms we never signed or even saw.

We have been a member since 2005. We were lured into buying the timeshare because of false promises such as discounts on plane fare and cruise ships. The points you earned by being a member have no value at all for plane fares and cruise ships. Most of the time, it is cheaper the get it directly from the service providers than coursing it through El Cid Vacation Club. For more than 15 years, we have been paying the monthly maintenance fees their resorts we only used twice. When we asked them to terminate our Membership and stop billing us for the monthly maintenance fees because of our age and related health issues, they threatened us that they will enforce the collection through a collection agency. Beware of these scammers.

we were promised in writing $1250 for the renrtal of our unit to be paid in Jan 2013.
So far we have not receicved any money and our emails to Rui Veloso and his assistant Susanna Noseworthy have not been answered or answered in a non committal way.
We would not have signed the contract if we had not been promissed the money. Scam scam scam.
we are still paying maintenace fees and payments on the contract through our credit card which we can only stop through going through El Cid. This will be our next move.

Middlerun, I need to contact you urgently! We wife and I went thru something very similar and our sales rep was Fernando Alonso Gonzales as well. Please provide me your email or phone number where I can reach you. We were assured we would receive a check for a little over 45K for the sale of our Wyndham; I am afraid we will not get to see such a thing happening.

Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is Liz, and our Company, CPC Worldwide, is specialized in helping people that have been a victim of fraud.
It's our job to solve problems abroad and I think that there's a lot of people on here that we can help. Our company was formed out of being disgusted at the way some people have been treated in the past and how so many people feel lost in a minefield.
We have other clients that have been defrauded by El Cid vacation resorts. If you want to get your money back, please do not hesitate to contact us.
I have realised I am not allowed to leave any email addresses or phone numbers, but you can easily find our UK company website.

I hope to hear from you soon.

El Cid Vacations Club Buyer beware

During our vacation in Cozumel we were invited for a meeting in El Cid. It was our first vacation in Mexico and a first for this kind of experience. They offered for us to buy a timeshare in El Cid. We had many doubts, but after getting asurance that if we change our mind, or our economical situation will change we can cancel the agreement by stoping payments and sending a resignation letter. They never said that for eventual cancelation we had only 5 days. After a few months our situation changed and we decided to cancel the agreement. So, as we were told by the El Cid emploee, we sent the resignation letter to El Cid (which they received) to cancel. Now they are chaseing us with some kind of collection agency sending threatening letters. The base of this complaint is total misinformation and false information given to us by the El Cid salesmen. If we knew that this agreemend is impossible to cancel we never would have signed it. Buyer be ware!

El Cid Vacations Club El Cid Vacations Club - Fradulent Sales Techniques

We traveled to Cozumel in April of this year to stay at the Park Royal Resort. Right after our arrival in Cozumel on April 12, we were immediately approached by the agents from El Cid La Ceiba Hotel, which is situated right across the street from where we were supposed to stay. The agent took $80 deposit in exchange for two days of car rental and free admissions to the parks and museums within Cozumel for the whole family. He told us that the only thing we needed to do was to sit for an hour and a half at the presentation which included the free breakfast for the whole family.
Next day, after the breakfast, a very sweet lady, nicknamed Pinky, gave us a very impressive presentation of El Cid Vacation Club with beautifully-designed computer multimedia show. She started asking us many questions and told us that El Cid vacation club is just what we need for our family to save money. She asked us how much we were spending, and after a few minutes of calculations told us that we could be saving at least 50% of what we are paying now. I told her that we were not interested because we don’t like the time-share arrangement, and we don’t want to come to the same place(s) all the time. She said that El Cid Vacations is not a time-share, it is a vacations club, and we will not have any limitations. In fact we could be travelling anywhere in the world and save at least 50%.

We were not impressed. So, after we said NO, she called another salesman, Bill Fletcher, who started persuading us to join the club, and that we don’t understand how much we could benefit from it. He started telling us that El Cid Vacations has a lot of associations with various families of resorts including RCI and Wyndham, and that we have a complete freedom of paying for all of those vacations in full with our El Cid points. He also said that because we can book the cruises through the El Cid resorts, we have a freedom to select all kinds of cruises. We were very interested in the cruises. In fact, our children were dreaming about a Disney cruise. Bill showed us how easy it would be to book a Disney cruise using only 308, 000 points. He also mentioned that we can also use our remaining points for the airfare, and that it was fixed at 33, 000 ElCid points per person within the USA, 38, 000 points within Mexico and Caribbean, and somewhat more to Europe, South America, etc. He made everything seem so easy and affordable that my wife started to like it. I still was somewhat unsecured, so I have asked Bill, as a condition of our membership to book a Disney cruise on our behalf to prove that the membership actually works. Meanwhile, a man named Arturo Soto created the contract for us. He made us sign the contract within a few minutes. I didn’t even have enough time to read it. My wife didn’t even see it.
Senior Soto went through the contract very fast. He has never mentioned to us that we had 5 days to rescind the contract, although it was written in the contract itself. But because we were rushed through the contract I didn’t even see that. On top of everything, the contract was burned onto the DVD. We did not get the paper copy of the document. We only got the DVD and a few outdated brochures. At the resort we did not have a PC to read the contract. We really did not worry about the contract itself, because we believed the salespeople. We believed that everything we were told was true.

We met Bill Fletcher one last time before we left home. He told us that he had booked the Disney cruise for all of us, and that we completely covered the cruise with the points that we had. He said that everything was reserved on our behalf. When I asked for the proof, he said that, unfortunately he could not give me anything in writing, because our membership was new, and we were not yet in the computer. However, he said that we should not worry about anything. The cruise was booked and we were all set. Bon voyage! He even gave me a name of the person who was in charge of reservation, Claudia Juarez. She was holding our reservation and she would help us with any possible issues.
We trusted Bill Fletcher. He seemed to be a very nice person. We decided to take his word for it, and we left Cozumel with high hopes of our dream cruise vacation.

After we arrived home, we started waiting for the official welcome packet that was promised to be mailed to us, but it never came. In this packet, we expected to find our membership information and the updated guides, because the ones we had were outdated. However, instead of this membership kit, we got a bill for maintenance. The bill stated that we should not be late with the payment, otherwise we would be liable for late penalties. While I understand, this is all in the contract, it came as part of a shock to us. We got a feeling that we are being treated as cash cows, not as members of a respectable vacation club.

Realizing that we were finally legitimate members (because we got the bill), I started making phone calls to claim our cruise reservation. I was kicked around from number to number. I was finally transferred to OVC, a separate company, which as a surprise to me, was not part of El Cid network. Although the people at OVC were very nice to me, and offered a lot of help booking the cruise, not only they could not find our reservations, but they didn't even have our membership information available. They also downplayed the amount of our El Cid points, as if they were very insignificant and they completely ignored our VIP status (Sean even said that he had no idea what it was). I remember Bill Fletcher spent a sizable amount of time telling us how VIP status can help us upgrade to better room at the resort or a better cabin on the cruise. I was very disappointed and upset, and then I realized that everything that Bill Fletcher had told me were lies. Nobody, not even Claudia Juarez was aware that we had any pending cruise reservations. And, contrary to what Bill had said, Claudia Juarez did not offer much help either.

Before making a final decision not to deal with El Cid anymore, I had made a few other phone calls. Here, in the nutshell, are the results:

1. I wanted to find out how much extra we have to pay if we had to book Disney Cruise for the sailing we were discussing with Bill Fletcher back in Cozumel.
Sean English from OVC has quoted the cruise at 308, 000 points + $3, 850.50 to be paid out of our pocket. That was shocking to us, and totally unacceptable. Of course, Disney is a luxury line, and of course it is very expensive (although, according to El Cid policies, all cruises are rated at a fixed point allocation, with the difference being the cabin type and time of year of the cruise: prime, high, value, etc.). Sean English had recommended that perhaps we should consider cheaper cruises, such as Carnival, for example. I wasn't really interested, but out of my curiosity, I asked for a quote anyway. Even a Carnival's cheapest option would have been 308, 000 points + $1, 645 out of our pocket. These are the cheapest cabins on the cheapest cruise !

2. I called El Cid reservation to find out how much it it would be to get airfare from New York to Orlando, Florida. The reservation person very politely checked my membership status, and promised to send information via e-mail. Here came another shock. I already prepared to expect it to be higher than 30, 000, however 179, 000 point per person with a total of 895, 000 for all 5 of us ! Give me a break. This is totally outrageous ! This would equal to 3 of our yearly VIP allocations. Tough price to pay.
I immediately contacted El Cid member services to express my concerns and to rescind the contract due to the fraudulent sales practice and misrepresentation. In return, Arturo Soto, of El Cid de la Ceiba in Cozumel, completely ignored my pleas, and started preaching the line of a 5-day contract. He said that there is nothing he could do because it has been more than 5 days since the contract was signed. He says this is a corporate policy and he won’t move any further. I wanted to prove that it’s not the 5-day contract which is a problem; it’s their fraudulent sales-practice techniques which is the problem. They had lied to us, not even once, but many times. They did not keep their promise. I would have never agreed to sign the contract if I knew that this was going to happen. 5 day money-back policy wouldn’t have helped me in that case at all.

We are asking El Cid Vacations Club to rescind the contract and return our deposit of $7, 243.63 back to us. We also want El Cid Vacations Club to stop any further collection activity through any of its offices and/or affiliates whether in Mexico or in the USA. We have not used the club yet and we do not intend to use it at all. We want to return everything that was given to us by El Cid Vacations club, including all vouchers and brochures back to them. We consider their practices to be fraudulent and we do not want to deal with this organization.

My wife and I bought a Millionaire contract in JAN 2015 and used all million points just as advertised. We took cruises, stayed at hotels in Chicago and Nashville, TN, got 50% off our points at our El Cid resort and LOVE the people who work there. Granted we are both very engaged in finding out how to use the benefits. There is not a lot of time to do this when you buy, but trust us, you can use them like they say. We were so happy we bought a second Millionaire contract in JAN 2016! It is as good as it says it is, but you have to do a little self-education.

If you complain they will tell you that you don't have a high enough point membership to take full advantage of their vacation club. Then they will attempt to sell you more. Bill Flethcher is now with Cozumel Century 21 at Landmark Condo project. As for getting your money back. I would like to hear of any that have ever gotten their money back from Mexican Time Share.

We had a similar experience, couldn't get our money back and have since used two of their vacation spots. One in Spain and the second in Mazatlan...did not enjoy either. All they try and do is upgrade you to "VIP" status which is probably a joke...I would love to be able to sell my 154, 000pts as I just paid my annual maintenance fee of $683.00
I chalk it up to stupidity on my part and have vowed to my wife I will never buy anything else without sleeping on it...Grant in Calif.

El Cid Vacations Club Timeshare faud - Outright Lying

A friend and I were accompanied during the bus ride from the airport to El Cid (part of the process of staying at El Cid) for a 1 week vacation that was in a 2 bedroom / 3 bath unit which was fully paid for. We were promised a day of all inclusive for each of us as well as one of four different city tours if we would attend a 1h time share sales pitch to which we agreed. During the sales pitch I told the main salesman that I already had a time share in Belize and that I didn’t have enough vacation for 2 weeks of timeshare a year. He proposed that he sell my timeshare for $16.9K (which value he came up with by obtaining comps taken from recent sales at the resort that I own my timeshare in) and then all I would have to do is pay the difference for a 2bedroom week at El Cid. I thought this was pretty good because it was only a difference of $4K (purchase price of the 2 bedroom El Cid resort was $20.9K) for a 2 bedroom vs a 1 bedroom which is what I had in Belize. Plus they offered to pay for the yearly fees to RCI for 20 year which currently cost me ~$75 a year on my existing timeshare (a $5K value in itself over 20years) as well as providing me 154, 000 RCI vacation points good for an additional timeshare week and an additional 2 bonus weeks at El Cid good for 2 years. The sales person said that he could “guarantee” (which is the word that he used) that my timeshare would sell for at least $16.9K due to the comps and his experience in such sales.

After I signed the paper work, I found out that my timeshare would be sold through a 3rd party (RSI), and there was no guarantee that it would sell. I did research on the web and found out that this tactic was used frequently at El Cid. Since there was no way that the sales person (I'm not putting his name in this complaint) could provide a written guarantee (I requested this the next day and he said he would not provide this) there was no way that I would know if my timeshare would sell. Thus, I could be stuck with 2 timeshares and I would not have any recourse once the 5 day grace period was consumed (this is the tactic that other disgruntled owners on the web said was used with them in the past).

Fortunately I had access to the web and was able to cancel my contract before the 5 days was up via sending registered mail and various emails.

They still charged us for the "all inclusive" and "room upgrade" perks that I were offered but never requested. I tried to dispute this via my credit card company but was unsuccessful.

DON'T GET CAUGHT BY THEIR OUTRIGHT LIES!

Hi Diane and Cristina,
We would really appreciate if you give us the opportunity to contact you and clarify your issues with our firm, as the personnel for Gonzalez & Gonzalez is highly trained and supervised; and we can assure you that none of our customers have been attacked in any way.
Looking through the files and data base of our company we do not show any record under the name of ¨Diane Jersey¨ and/or ¨Cristine ----¨, who are the people complaining and defaming against the firm.
After 15 years of experience we knew some day this will happen, being conscious of this we back up ourselves by recording every incoming and outgoing telephone call.
In case of the existence of a recorded conversation with you under another name, we would like to expose it to the internet community to prove the opposite of the complaints made on June 30th against Gonzalez & Gonzalez to discard the fact that the post was exposed by our competitors or from the timeshare developers full of frustration by our advocacy and success on the resolution of the cases handled at Gonzalez & Gonzalez.
Also, Gonzalez and Gonzalez has never charged such exaggerated retainer fees, we have a long list of satisfied customers who support our firm, with identifications to validate their existence and able to show their satisfaction by the success in the resolution of their cases.

El Cid Vacations Club el cid vacation club fraud

We are also in a similar situation. We purchased points through El Cid with the understanding that we would be able to exchange other vacation packages through RCI. I tried to book a vacation to Maui and was told I would be put on a list to contact when a hotel came available. I was never contacted, in fact, I had to cancel our travel arrangements specifically because I could never get ahold of a representative to assist us.

We have since moved out of the country and have tried multiple times to contact El Cid to try to cancel our contract. We have left numerous messages on every phone number we could find as well as every e-mail address we could get, with no response.

How do we proceed with cancelling this and not damaging our credit?

Just an FYI: I found that we could book vacation packages cheaper than the El Cid package - even at an El Cid resort!

My husband and I were accosted at the Cancun airport by a member of the El Cid vacation club. He told us he would give us a voucher for the $80.00 (USD) four our return trip to the airport plus $80.00 USD in cash if we attended a 90 minute presentation by him that was at the hotel "next door" to where we were staying. He also said we would have a nice lunch and be treated to a massage. All we had to do was pay him a deposit of $50.00 USD to "hold our reservation". Red flag! He said he would send a private taxi to pick us up at 10:00 on Monday morning. We waited 30 minutes, but no one showed up. I was relieved because we don't usually fall for these tactics. However, upon return to the room at 10:30, the phone rang and it was the front desk that said our driver was here. Reluctantly, we went down and got in the van. The "next door" turned out to be a one-hour drive. Red flag! Upon arrival at the El Cid resort in Riviera Maya, we saw the man who initially approached us. He said the reason we had to come so far was because we did not show up on time. Red flag! He took us to a part of the restaurant where he introduced us to a woman "Ledy" who was very nice and sat down and asked us a bunch of questions about where we like to vacation, etc. We were then taken to a huge open room with many other agents working with people on computers - showing them the benefits of joining the El Cid Vacation Club. Every time someone joined, they all cheered and clapped and then the champagne came out. We sat and listened to all of the options about how many "points" to purchase. We then were taken on a tour - of course to the suite that would require 400, 000 points to stay for one week. That option was around $60, 000.00. We got back to her "office" and then her manager approached us. They used relentless tactics to convince us to sign up. Both my husband and I were very leary. When something sounds too good to be true it usually is. We are both intelligent people...but these vultures do not let up. We should have just walked out of there, but then an even higher figure in management approached us and told us he would add 6 additional platinum weeks to the package. We opted for the least amount of points (77, 000) which we were told would give us one week's vacation for the next 20 years. Of course, there was a monthly maintenance fee we had to pay in the amount of $44.00 (USD) for 20 years. The cost of the 77, 000.00 was 13, 500.00 (USD). We put a deposit of $1, 350.00 via credit card and planned on financing the remainder amount when we got back to the US and signed the contract. They were true to their word and gave us the $80.00 taxi money back as well as the $50.00 in cash we paid on day one at the airport. When we returned to our hotel room, I began looking through the information they gave to me on a CD. I could not locate these extra "platinum weeks" anywhere in the contract. It only mentioned the 77, 0000 points/year. When I began to look through the vacation club website, I soon discovered that it would take much more than 77, 000 points to stay at most of the resorts, including any Wyndham hotels or other El Cid locations (Hever, England, Spain). That was when I knew we made a big mistake. Through research, I found that we do have a 5 day period in which to cancel the contract according to Mexican law. However, the company would not answer my multiple emails. That was when I contacted G&G. This was legitimate since they ask for no money until all of your deposits/charges are refunded. Do not fall for these tactics. Just Walk Away! It cost us $1200.00 to have the contract revoked.

I stayed at the El Cid Le Ceiba resort in Cozumel on two different occasions. My wifes parents live in Merida which is about 5 hours away. My family, and I take a side trip to Cozumel everytime I visit my linlaws.

Both times when my family, and I arrived there were swarms of timeshare scammers waiting on the docks. I made sure they stays away.

When I checked in, the hotel clerk handed my keyes to the concierge. Soon the consierge tried to invite my wife, and I to their presentation. They presented me with a list of what they provided discounts for. I immediately handed it back, and said I was not interested. Then she said a free breakfast was included. I said so what. Then she kept insisting, and pushing the matter.

I realized the only way to deal with this was to be repulsive. Being nice was not working.
When I acted in a repulsive matter, the concierge said, "I am just doing my job." I said, "Then please do your job with someone else." Then I grabbed my keyes from the concierge, and my family and I went to our room.

Two years leter when my family, and I arrived at El Cid LeCeiba wife wife told the concierge do not attempt to talk to me about attending a presentation unless you wanted to be verbally abused. So that thime, the concierge gave me my keyes, and went to ur room, and did not have to hear the subject of timeshare come up again.

Since then my family, and I rent a condiminium in Cozumel. Checkout www.myhomeincozumel.com. They have grat places to stay at.

Thank you for reading this.

Best regards, and good luck.

El Cid Vacations Club El cid vacation club, mazatlan

El Cid is a pure rip off scam! They are a one way service. You pay and they take. The help desk will not return any complaint calls.

I find it incredible that a large company would embark on such a conspiracy of not responding to complaints nor acknowledging their written promises. I hope anyone considering buying anything from El Cid Vacations Club will learn from my and numerous other people's experience, and avoid these people.

We paid the upfront deposit and were dutifully paying the monthly payments and annual fee.
We were especially interested in the relationship with RCI and were told we could use it the same as El Cid. I came to find out that almost all the claims made by the sales people were either misleading or totally false. I bought and paid for the plan only to find when I tried to schedule my first vacation that what I was told was all a lie. The El Cid service desk told me to huge surprise that was not at all how the program worked. Also, the point exchange fees were all a lie. I would have to pay to roll over my points to the next year. Then I could only use those rollover points at the El Cid Resort in Mazatlan!

I plan on contacting PROFECO The Department of Conciliation Services to Foreign residents. They were recommended to me by RCI, who has had numerous other complaints regarding El Cid. PROFECO’s mission is to try and help travelers like myself who have been scammed by companies such as the El Cid chain.

I declined canceling as I have a ton of u dude points and plan on using it for one last trip. Then def going to take them up on the offer to cancel. What a COMPLETE waste of money. All timeshares in Mexico can be cancelled whether you owe them or not. They ARE NOT timeshares, but vacation club memberships with a right to use. I used to work at El Cid. I quit because of their illegal activities. Learn how to cancel on your own without affecting your credit score.

EL CID is a rip-off company that lies EL CID to get you signed up. El CID doesn't give you a copy of the contract that you signed. EL CID tells you that you will get an email the next day. EL CID didn't get us a copy until your five days are up. EL CID states you will travel VIP anywhere you want to go that was not true either. STAY AWAY THEY LIE ABOUT EVERYTHING. STAY AWAY

I would like to be counted in also. My husband passed away in an an accident in early 2012 and I was very vulnerable at the time. They trapped me and my young children when we visitied Mexico in 2015 and was scammed to say the least. I payed thousands of dollars for this timeshare and is a total rip off! I put a deposit of $3000 back in 2015 and pay almost $300 a month towards nothing. We try to use RCI and usually there are no reservations open. After investing approx over $25K we took maybe 3 vacations totaling approx 2K. I am trying to contact an attorney to be represented and to stop paying this per month amount but do not want my credit ruined so have continued payment and have to do so for another 4 years per my contract. Please advise ayone! divellol@yahoo.com

It is very easy to cancel with El Cid whether you owe them or not. Learn how. Visit the website: Everything About Timeshares, or visit the YouTube page Everything About Timeshares that explains everything you need to cancel any Mexico timeshare. Hope this helps.

I’m in the process of trying to get out of my contract, which is paid in full. We purchase an El Cids timeshare in Cozumel in 2004. Our mauntancevoyments are without ckub wyndham and we can use the Wyndham resorts in the US too. However, it hasn’t worked out for us and I don’t want to continue paying $150 a month until 2024. I tried Wyndham but they were no help. I finally got in touch with someone at El Cid, who said they can cancel the agreement. They sent me a document but I’ve asked them to revise it to include the El Cid letterhead and assurance I won’t be paying monthly maintenance to Wyndam. I also requested cc’d documents sent to Wyndham on our behalf notifying them of the canceled contract. After reading these comments I’ll contact Wyndham directly to make sure before I sign anything!

I have been a member with El Cid for 6 years now and originally bought at Maya Riviera. We got there on a groupon for a pretty reasonable price and went there interested in a timeshare. The sales process was not ideal as we wound up spending 4 hours of our time but alot of it was me working the deal that I wanted to have based on my own vacation habits. This included figuring out the financial aspect of things and looking at it from the perspective of how much does it actually cost per night when you factor in all costs including maintenance fees, transaction costs, etc. I can tell you that you will make out much cheaper with the timeshare.

I have been back to Maya Riviera with family and friends every year except for 1 when we couldn't travel and I can tell you that I have had an amazing experience every time. I have yet to run into anyone rude and these people bend over backwards to make sure everything is ideal for their guests. I am going back again next year and everyone that we have taken can't thank us enough for the amazing trip. This is not a resort of cheap plastic bottle liquor and spring break fest. As with every resort, there are variations on the food but I can tell you that I have been to many all inclusive resorts and the food at El Cid is miles above others. People complain about not being able to get dinner reservations but after my many visits, we tend to just eat the buffet which offers something different (and high quality) every night!

I think people are looking at this El Cid timeshare as a means to do whatever you want and go wherever you want. The main benefits are when you stay on the El Cid properties. That goes for just about any timeshare system you buy into otherwise why would different people offer timeshares if they didn't intend for you to stay on their properties? One of the huge perks we get is the Yacht discount. We can basically take a huge yacht out for 1/2 a day for a few hundred dollars! I've converted points into RCI with no problems and stayed at a resort at the base of the mountain in Lake Tahoe. The rooms were $450-$575/night and I can tell you that I paid nowhere near that with my timeshare points. But again, this is not the intention of this timeshare. If you are wanting a timeshare that you can go anywhere you want with no charges then this is not the one for you. But then again, I don't know of any timeshare that is like that. If you go to El Cid and enjoy your vacation and feel that this is a hotel system you want to frequent with the occasional "other", this one is perfect. It has been for us anyway.

El Cid Vacations Club update... I have been in contact (via email) with a Mr. Benjamin Goon at ECVC. He has assured me that I will receive my initial deposit back if I remove the negative complaints that I have put out on the internet. That's my plan now. I will remove the complaints and in return I expect a refund from ECVC. Then I can put all this behind me.

I noticed that the only people that complain, are the ones that want a free gift. They get the gift and return home and cancel. you don't see them returning the gift .

All they want is someting for free . they can't afford to vacation in the first place. And get what they can for free. weather its room nites or gifts food, drink . DId someone force you to buy your house? or car? did you get a free breakfast before buying that new pair of shoes house or car? Did someone have a big fat knife to your throut ? forcing you to purchase.and sign on the dotted line? i didn't think so.

Did you go thru a real estate agent to buy your house, or did you think you may be able to buy a new dress and shoes a the real estate office? You all new full well when you arrived at the timeshares mentioned you weren't there for anything else, everyone knows that you were there for a sales pitch in return you received free gifts and maybe breakfast. So your retired or not... is your brain turnd off. Im not in timeshare but if i was i would go after these customers, for customer fraud and scamming innocent sales people out of gifts income.and scamming the resort so you can feed and feast like pigs for free. It sounds to me like your all pretty stupid, MOAN AND ### AND STAY HOME.timeshare is an elite lifestyle. and your just not ...

El Cid Vacations Club High pressure sale tactic's

My wife and two of her sisters traveled to Mazatlan for a weeks vacation on 01/27/2009. On arrival she was approached by A sales rep. for El Cid Vacations Club Cozumel and was talked into attending a presentation the next day. She went and was pressured into a ten year contract on timeshares. I was never contacted and was furious at what she had done. She had used our Amex Card to make a down payment on the contract. The five day grace period had already passed by the time she arrived home. I tried to contact the company but that was like trying to contact the moon. I have filed an inquiry on my Amex account but I am not hopeful they can help. I have also contacted an attorney to see if I can cancel the contract . Stay away from this company, they are Vultures preying on the weak willed. Doing a deal in Mexico you are not protected by United States consumer protection laws, so be aware.

El Cid Vacations Club Timeshare Fraud

Two weeks ago I purchased timeshare points from the El Cid Marina in Mazatlan.
We were approached at the airport by the offer of a cab ride. Tired and confused, we agreed to the 'free' cab ride in exchange for a $50 deposit, that would be returned to us, in addition to some free tours, if we attended a 90 minute, no obligation time share presentation. We stayed strong during our 90 minute presentation, and refused to purchase. We asked for our $50 deposit and gifts, and kept getting the runaround. The 90 minute presentation turned into a 3 hour ordeal. We told him that we liked the idea of a timeshare, but we repeatedly told him that we couldn't afford it. We said that in 5-10 years we would be interested in purchasing. Our time share presenter told us that they offered a special package for people like us. We could rent out our points each year for a minimum of $3, 000. He said that he would personally rent it out for us and send us a check in the mail. He promised that by renting out our points we would have absolutely no out of pocket costs for five years. At the end of 5 years, we would have a timeshare that was mostly paid off, with no cost to us. That was when they asked for a credit card, just to check if we were qualified for the wonderful deal that they were offering us. They returned with a credit line that they opened in our name, that would cover the $5, 800 dollar deposit.

Then we met with another person who had the papers to sign. We were skeptical because there were no promises in writing regarding the renting of points. On five separate occassions, our time share presenter was brought back into the room to reassure us. Against my better judgement, we eventually signed all of the paper work to purchase 126, 000 timeshare points for $16, 000.

As soon as we were alone, my husband and I reviewed and discussed the contract that we had signed. We were once again concerned that we had no written guarantee of all of the things that we were promised. We told them within an hour that we wanted to cancel the contract. However, we were told that while we were free to cancel at anytime, we would lose our $5, 800 deposit. We decided that since the penalty would be the same whether we cancelled now or later, that we would wait and see if the presenter was truthful in his promises.

When we returned home we found out that everything the presenter promised was a lie. The things that he told us were part of a much-used scam. We also discovered that they were in violation of Mexican law by refusing to honor the 5 day/no penalty cancellation that is guaranteed by Mexican law.

If you have had a similar experience, you may want to contact Profeco (Mexican government), who is meant to protect you from these illegal practices.

Also, check out these websites regarding Mexican Timeshare Fraud:

Feel free to contact me if you are a victim of this company.

Common Complaints:

Salespeople offer clients false promises of discounts on airfares, cruises, car rentals etc.
Salespeople claim that the points have more value than they actually do for exchange purposes.
Clients are sent the full contract on a CD to their home address. They do not receive a full copy to review and decide whether or not they want to cancel within the 5 day rescission period allowed by Mexican Law.
Salespeople offer to resell a previously owned timeshare or take it over in trade so that the client is only responsible for the maintenance fees for the new timeshare. This never happens. http://www.timesharescam.com/

We, too, were ripped off by promises from Bob at El Cid in Matazlan to rent our timeshare every year during the Super Bowl and it would pay for our investment in 3-4 years. We were also told that the contract did not expire and it does. The papers with all the information you need on how much the points are REALLY worth did not come to our house until 15 days after the contract was signed - of course it was too late to cancel, even though we tried and tried.

We now have lawyers from the Owner's Advocate helping us. It has been almost a year and nothing. These guys are nothing buy liars. Don't ever buy from them!

We too bought a vacation rental from El Cid. We were promised many things as we went through the pitch with them. Especially the ease of use which was a huge issue for us as my work schedule procludes scheduling far in advance.
We paid the upfront deposit and were dutifully paying the monthly payments and annual fee. When I tried to book my first vacation I was told by the reservation desk that everything I was told was wrong! I tried calling El Cid help desk but, got no response. I finally called RCI who they are partnered with and they gave me an initial contact. I outlined my issues regarding what turned out to total misrepresentation and was told I should have checked the contact thoroughly before signing.
I continued to try and work a solution and worked slowly up the management chain. Which the don't want to let you know or have in some cases refused to disclose.
I finally stopped paying and that has gotten some attention. Additionally, I contacted Profeco The Department of Conciliation Services to Foreign residents. They were recommended to me by RCI, who has had numerous other complaints regarding El Cid. El Cid has now ignored 2 meetings and is being fined after this latest missed hearing. The next hearing is scheduled for February. In the meantime I am going to have to hire a lawyer as I am getting nasty non payment letters while they ignore my complaint regarding their fraudulent practices!
Please let me know how you were able to resolve your issues.

Have had a very similar experience and want desperately to get back over $11000.00 we have already paid into the company that we are apparently unable to go anywhere thru. HELP! Any suggestions, anybody get a resolution to this problem? Any way to get money back? We have stopped payments and have had the same response-NONE- to our many complaints and left messages-NONE! Only someone calling asking why we had not sent our payment, when I alreeady warned several people that until I had a call back to address my concerns I would not be paying another penny. Nothing!

Johnny Montalbo aka John Monte is operating with his "crew" in Puerto Vallarta MX, selling memberships in World Luxury Destinations a supposed "concierge travel service" affiliated with luxury resorts. The magnet resort they were using was Miramar Resort and Spa and now they are touting the Grand Venetian. They operate out of a restaurant called Mangos downtown. We thought we were looking at a full ownership condo but when we said we weren't interested in purchasing it they shifted to offering the WLD membership which would provide fractional access to 8 weeks at the Grand Venetian with no maintenance fee. When we still resisted they said they could sell our three timeshares to pay for the membership. Everything was guaranteed and could be cancelled at any time. bottom line...big scam. They charged our credit card with $35K and even though i discovered the scam four days later and called the credit card company, Citicard wouldn't honor the dispute and the Mexican authorities have been no help.

I am the ex girlfriend of Johnny Montalbo's son John. I met Johnny only twice but I heard all the stories from his son. Everything from how he abused and cheated on his wife to abusing his own son. But the apple didn't fall far from the tree because John abused me too. And his older sister Jessica showed signs of violent behavior herself. John even told me she tried to [censored] because her parents were divorcing. I guess Johnny cares about his clients just as much as his own family. Troy was correct about Johnny, John or Juan Carlos Montalbo. Although he is incorrect about the rest of the family. The only scammers are John, Mario and Anna Saenz Montalbo. These three travel to and from Mexico to San Antonio and use the scam monies to fund their luxury lifestyle. So Buyer beware! If you run into any of these three, walk away!

I suggest we get at least 10 people with similar complaints and sue them in federal court. This is a clear example of fraud, rendering the contract void and in many cases they need to refund every dollar because I believe there are enough similarly situated complainants that we can show intent to defraud from the outset.

Agree 100 percent. DO NOT TRUST MONTALBO FAMILY. Something needs to be done to jail that whole family of Montalbo. His name is Juan Carlos Montalbo (Mexican heritage not Philippine) and he goes by many aliases like Johnny etc. He and his family have no regard for what damage they do to others. It is a fact that they did a lot of damage to families in the following US cities in Texas: Austin, San Marcos, New Braunfels, San Antonio and surrounding communities. This does not include the other states he has had similar scams in: Godsboro, North Carolina (and surrounding cities); N. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (and surrounding cities); and Dover, Delaware. He has used his business associate's and family and friends' names and account numbers to cover his scams, then he leaves town and them holding the bag of responsibility. It would not be a bad idea to contact the FBI who I hear has been following him for some time. Provide them with as much information as possible. They will pick him up when her comes back to the US and probably seize his assets and pay back some of the damages.

El Cid Vacations Club Untruthful sales pitch!

They lied to us about the value of our Las Vegas timeshare which they promised to sell for $12,000. We were required to list with Resorts Solutions (a partner in the scam) for $500. I kept reducing the price but it did not sell for $100. We were given 3 weeks at El Cid which we were told we could sell for $2200 each. Again, no sale at $500.

We were assured that we bought enough points for a 2 bedroom unit at El Cid & other RCI resorts. El Cid raised the number of points so we are no longer able to get a 2 bedroom unit.

They treat my wife and me like thief, because we accept the invitation from one of their people, and we have been there before, they star shouting at us in front of everybody.

El Cid Vacations Club Rude, insulting

My mother, step-father and I were "invited" to a time share presentation while in Mazatlan.

The presentation was given. When my step-father said no, they turned to my mother. When she said no, they turned to me. When I said I couldn't commit to this right then and there? The insults began. They asked my mother's age and proceeded to insult her parenting skills or lack thereof. They then asked my age and called into question my parenting skills. These two guys, (one named Mike, who's father is the president of the company, and the other, I can't recall his name) told us all that we didn't want the best for our children and that our children would be starting out low in life. We were told we had no class. As if this personal attack was not enough, they proceeded to insult our country, CANADA, stating that the United States and their citizens KNEW what "class" was and wanted to give and did give their children the best. Unlike Canadian citizens, apparently.

I might point out that while we were there, we were taken on a tour of the El Cid. We did not see one smile on one face of any of the guests there. No one seemed to be having a good time. If being the "best", wanting the "best" and having "class" means having no fun while on vacation in such beautiful surroundings? The El Cid can stuff their time shares!

El Cid Vacations Club Beware of this rip off!

My wife and I stopped at Cozumel during a cruise. Our excursion was cancelled due to the weather so we wandered around for a bit before we ended up talking to Justin at El Cid about an RCI membership.

We were tempted with a free, all inclusive day pass just for listening and "keeping an open mind" about RCI. The presentation was supposed to last only an hour.

After an hour and one-half we we're totally confused about the whole program. Then the pressure began. We had several people coming and going from our table and we couldn't tell what was what anymore.

At that point I put an end to the presentation. I told Justin that I was not going to be signing anything at that point and if I couldn't take information away to do some research, then we weren't interested.

He immediately got angry with us, slammed his presentation booklets closed and called over the manager to "show us off the premises". I wanted to pop him in the mouth but we gathered up our things and walked out. Glad we did.

You may want to visit this website: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/travel/rci.html

It probably won't make you feel any better but might find something useful.

Good luck.

The best advice is NEVER buying a timeshare anywhere. It is a scam and the so-called timeshare you buy is sold over and over again to other people. It is very difficult to sell your timeshare now and renting isn't in the deal. It will cost you more to buy a timeshare and maintenance fee than to rent a hotel room or a full ownership of a condo. Don't do it. There is good information about timeshare scams: http://www.timesharescam.com/blog/68-timeshare-scams-mexico-vs-us-why-are-there-more-situations-of-fraud-in-mexico/

TRUE! This is a complete ripoff! You spend thousands of dollars and can get better deals on expedia. Total nightmare. And you call for help THEY DON'T LISTEN they just say the same things over and over again "you signed the contract" The contract does not reflect the sales pitch and I learned that the hard way. And no refunds. completed awful mistake getting involved with them.

Kathleen,

You have a right to be concerned if someone there interests you in a purchase. Suspect a scam if salesperson tries to sign you up to a contract by offering you deals like renting out your timeshare for a "guaranteed " amount by a certain date.If I had it to do over as an owner, I would not go for this 5-day "cooling off " period. I would be in touch with my lawyer, and if having him check out the deal took 2 months or more--so be it. If the salesman balks at this, walk away ! Believe me it's NOT worth it. As far as fees for your stay---surely you would check this out with the owner first.

I am going as a guest of a timeshare holder to stay at the ElCid in Cozumel in Feb. Due to illness they are not able to use their points so I am going instead. I already have the reservation. After reading all of this I'm very worried they will harass me during the entire stay and might even try to extort fees for staying on the property. Should I be worried? Please answer if you can I'm very concerned. Thanks much

Marylin P. I f nobody wrote their opinions we wouldn't have this forum, would we? Same goes for complaints.

I for one am not in the habit of making false accusations. I have a legitimate case here and I intend to see it through to my satisfaction.

I'm not interested in doing any more business in Mexico outside of a vacation or two there. You say you have had good rapport with the sales staff at El Cid. Not so with us. Perhaps you'd like to buy my timeshare at El Moro. It's up for grabs. Give you a good deal!

WE have stayed at the El Cid El Moro, 3 times now and a have found the accommodations and amenities second to none.

Our complaint is with their sales staff and in particular, Rui Veloso, who drewup an addendum to our contract which agreed to rent out our points (308, 000) to help pay for said contract. That was in '07 with a guarantee of payment of $10, 000 By Jan, 08. Nothing materialized, and we are $12.000 US in the red. Can't afford timeshare . Will sell. Anyone interested contact me at barcaroll@telus.net---"Muggins"

I have been a member of El Cid Vacations 5 years and I own a couple of other timeshares, El Cid is by far the best one I own. Yes, I have problems every once in awhile, but my Salesman Rui has allways helped and taken care of them for me, which by the way no others salesman has ever done, they are usually not there or fired. It´s too bad there are web sites like this that anyone can say anything in these forums, wether it is true or not.

we are at the same point. I hope that losing the 4000 us/5000 can$ will be the end of it. I will try to make them miserable too. Rui would you all believe grew up in Kelowna BC and his parents still live here. They must be so proud of him. Will try to get a story in the local newspaper since he is a home boy they might be interested. I think it is too costly for them to pursue us for the rest. Luckily I am old enough that I don't have to be concerned about credit ratings any more.

My fiance and I just returned from Mazatlan last week where we did purchase the El Cid Vacation Club. I paid $5K down and will be paying $300 for many years...at 12% interest. We were told A LOT of things about being able to use the airlines and the points from Boise to Mazatlan would be only 30K points--which turned out to be totally false. I have yet to book anything becuase "we're not in the system yet" but am not pleased about the misrepresentation on several items--not just the airline points. I'm feeling pretty bad about the whole thing now but will try and book one of their "experiential vacations" to see how it goes. Has anyone had success with cancelling the contract? Even if I lose $5K, it's better than $15 more but I don't want my credit to be affected. Any thoughts?

Johnny Montalbo, is John Montalbo, Juan Carlos Montalbo. He did the same thing here and has evaded IRS for some time. He stole earnest money from people by allowing them to think they were all buying the same house. Austin TX is where you need to check on verification, 2001 July I believe. There was a big scam he had going on here including bank fraud which caused some banks to close the business he was working at to close. He doesn't dare come back to US, he is afraid of going to jail. But he has always done this type of scamming, it is nothing new to him or his brother who also resides in Mexico. Mario Montalbo, Anna Montalbo, they too have stolen and used other peoples credit for thier own gain.
I sympathize with you folks that are going through this, It is about the same thing that happened here in Austin TX in 2001. He had a "ring" of hoodlums working for him then.

my husband and I vacationed at the El Cid Marina in Mazatlan in 2005 over the Thanksgiving holidays. We enjoyed our time there and yes went to the presentation for the time share. We bought it and have used it twice since then. We took all of our kids down the last time. Enjoyed tennis, golf, salon visits, fishing and of course the pools at the Marina. The staff remembers who we are everytime we go to the Marina. The last time we were there my husband caught a fish, kind of small. We had the resturant cook it up for us and we fed most of the guests that night! We love it at the Marina and wouldn't go anywhere else, unless we heard there was another El Cid resort with the same greatness! We did however schedule a week for our friends to go to the El Cid this next week. Our friends had to make a last minute emergency cancelation. When I checked on the website on cancelations it said any cancelations done under 59 days before checkin would recieve 75% of your points back. I was fine with that. But when I called the El Cid number to cancel, John told me I was wrong and needed to read my book I was given when we purchased out time share. I told him, actually read to him the information word for word off the website and it never mentioned that I would loose 100% of our points due to last minute cancelation. When I asked him why wasn't this information on the website he said it was in the book. When I asked about what I read to him from the website, his remark was "You canceled to late". I would think canceling under 59 days to include and up to reservation day? Wouldn't you? Warning, do they change the rules as they go along? I'll be reading through my "rules" book. As with everything these days, nothing seems to be too good. We would go back however due to the great times at the El Cid Marina.
