Not one to pass around negative commentary without good reason, and even then, not something I like to do. However, after 17 years with GE appliances, the fridge gave up and the microwave was dodgy. Was waiting on a small cheap dishwasher part and while in a furniture store, noted the sleek newness of the Maytag line. Having never owned Maytag products, I always assumed they were the best. As a 50+ guy, I grew up with the 'loneliest guy in the world' ads (Maytag repairman) due to reliability (remember Gordon Jump?) So we bought all new Maytag: fridge, over the range microwave (vented to the outdoors) and dishwasher. Nice looking! However... the microwave fan stopped after 14 months, then no heat / thawing. No warranty of course (12 months). Paid ~$250 for extended warranty, called a repair guy through Maytag, after 4 months and multiple trips to our house, the board was finally replaced. It worked. For another 14 months (seriously). We had a burnt out bulb, replaced the bulb and then it would not shut off. Ever. After a day or so, the fan stopped working again. Then it came back on but only at the highest speed. Medium / low, setting changed but the fan goes 100% off in those positions. So max only. We turn the breaker off every night and turn it on every day. That is not recommended. After a month of this foolishness, now it only provides power intermittently. Sometimes it produces heat, other times the turntable rotates but no 'power' going to the food / no heat. So fed up with this product. So now we are getting a new microwave, obviously not MAYTAG, mismatched appliances, but oh well. Never again will we buy Maytag, in any product. GE had served us very well, lesson learned.
Recommendation: Stay away Maytag.
FYI, for the above complaint model is YMMV4207 JZ00, SN TRB0910931
Just noticing, identical model, same complaint below (scroll down). He got 2 years out of his at least! The '10 year warranty' is a bit of a scam, very little covered, and nothing that relates to the normal functionality of the unit. We bought the unit, then another +$250 (extended warranty), and after less than 3 years it is toast.
