I hired a contractor to build a workshop. The first part was concrete foundation and walls. I mostly used charge cards because he wanted funds in advance (always a problem) and the progress was intermittent. Near the end of the foundation work, I used my Chase credit card to pay $13,000 to cover the balance of the trusses and labor to install them. Then by his own admission, I found out he never ordered the trusses and the permit was about to expire. I had paid an additional $5000 four months earlier as an initial truss deposit. So I terminated his services and demanded a refund for the trusses and labor that was not received. The contractor gave a vague response about returning the funds, so I disputed the $5000 charge on First National Bank visa and the $13000 on the Chase card. First National Bank credited us the $5000 without a problem. But Chase denied the dispute and provided false statements. I had been using the Chase card for 30 years. So Chase would rather help those that rip off and screw the valued customer. DEI hires.
Claimed loss: $13000
Desired outcome: Return of funds
