I deposited a self-written home equity line of credit (HELOC) check in the amount of $50,000 from another financial institution (Huntington Bank) to my Chase bank checking account to use for renovations on a real estate project. This is something I've done multiple times as a business practice. Chase always puts a mandatory 10 day hold on my money. I made this deposit in-person at the Glendale Town Center Branch, 2370 Broad Ripple Avenue Indianapolis, Indiana on January 8th, 2026.
I was given a number I could call to have those funds released earlier. I called that number on Friday, January 9th and was told it could still take up to 10 days to have those funds released.
On Monday, January 12th, I checked my account online to see that my check had been returned and that my account was marked as overdrawn and subject to overdraw fees. There is no reason for this because I never drew on that money because I was waiting for funds to clear. This is also a HELOC check from another reputable bank on an account I've used multiple times. I checked with the issuing bank and there was no problem on their end. I then entered the same physical Chase branch where I'd made the deposit. The teller manager was absolutely no help and told me she couldn't assist me and that I would need to call the customer service number instead.
I then called into the call center only to be told that last week, they were made known that there was a still-unresolved technical issue that bounced all customer deposits that were made in-branch locations. Still to this date, this issue is unresolved and they've made no attempt to contact customers of this. I was also told that there was nothing that could be done because the issue was still ongoing and there was no guidance on next steps because they didn't know what to do. This is unacceptable and irresponsible. I'm unable to use the money to cover my business transactions because of their ineptitude. Further, the teller manager should have been able to communicate this issue to me and instead turned me away. If there is a technical issue damaging customers' financial livelihood, we should be made aware of this at the very least.
I've made a formal complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau but I would like this issue resolved as quickly as possible as this is damaging and disruptive to my business, paying contractors, etc.
I would like this deposit to be corrected and reinstated as soon as possible. There should be no overdraft fee applied to me as this is the fault of Chase Bank, and I would like to have these funds cleared and useable immediately with no hold applied since we've already wasted 5 days on this.
Desired outcome: Correct and reinstate this deposit as soon as possible. No overdraft fee applied. Clear funds and make useable immediately.
