Mr. Lube Canada vehicle damaged

In September of 2009 I had taken my 2009 Grand Caravan to the aforementioned Mr.Lube for a quick oil change. I don't usually go to Mr. Lube and had been warned about them by mechanics who are relatives as well as other mechanics. I figured "It's just an oil change... how can anyone screw that up?" Shortly after leaving my engine light came on. I pulled over and checked the oil - thinking that perhaps they had forgotten to put oil back in or maybe the drain plug... oil level was fine and there were no leaks. When I got back into the car the engine light had gone out. Over the next few weeks the engine light would intermittently come on and go off. The engine sounded fine so I figured I'd wait until my next scheduled servicing to have it checked. Never got the chance. Leaving work one night a week before Christmas the car wouldn't start. Good battery, lots of power from the battery but no starter. Towing bill to get to a dealership that night was over $250. As soon as it was dropped off the hook the van started. I live rurally so getting home from the dealership was going to cost me again, I opted to drive it home with plans to take it into the dealership in the morning. Again, the following morning the van would not start. Another $75 to get it towed into the dealer. Cost me a day off work while waiting for the dealer to figure out what was wrong with it - which they did. In the words of the mechanic "Who does your oil changes?...'Cause they've damaged a pigtail connector that's right up by your oil filter. One of the wires is ripped out and the connector is broken." Cost to diagnose $154 and cost to repair $151.

So, an oil change at Mr. Lube cost me $680 including the cost of the oil change and not including a days pay lost.

I contacted the Mr Lube franchise, not seeking compensation but just to let them know that they were either knowingly or otherwise damaging vehicles and as everyone else here has experienced, I got very little sympathy. I was expecting to say thanks for letting them know and that the guys down in the pits would be advised to watch out for wiring and such when removing oil filters... but no such luck. Instead they sang the praises of their employees, offered to have me come back so that they could take a look at my van (They are NOT licensed mechanics so why he'd even consider offering this God only knows), the area manager told me about his own Caravan which is 3 years older than mine and a totally different design, stating that he's never had a problem. What a joke.

I'm chalking this one up to not heeding warnings I was given and do my best to save any one else from the same or similar fate.

I'd like to say that you get what you pay for - but a dealership oil change is actually less than a Mr. Lube oil change, there are no hard sells while you're sitting trapped in your car, the guys working on your car are licensed technicians instead of kids who never finished high school and the dealer warranties their work. Mr. Lube? You're on your own.

If I save just one person from going through my experience with Mr. Lube it will have been worth the $680+.

I too, was an unhappy customer of Mr. Lube. I went in and opted to have Fuel System Cleaning done. About half a week after, my engine started vibrating hard, like it never used to and I brought it to my dealer. They couldn't seem to find the problem, so I took it to another mechanic. I was told by the mechanic that when the fuel system was done, it might have been done too quickly that the gunk that was washed away didn't get dissolved and that there may be some gunk stuck onto the injectors. I wanted to let Mr. Lube know what have happened so I emailed the area manager. He responded right away and agreed with what I suggested the problem was. He offered me to come in for them to re-do the fuel system cleaning at no charge. To think, that they would do this means that I will be taking their time and that I will be spending their resources. This is by far, the best customer service I have ever seen. I hope all Mr. Lube franchisees get up on this example. Even if the staff are not mechanics, at least they do what they need to and they treat the customers with respect and do whatever it takes to keep their customers happy.

I work is the service industry and find that people in general are far too busy to take the time to write positive reviews when they receive good service but have all the time in the world to write negative reviews when they are unhappy. I was an unhappy Mr. Lube customer. I went for an oil change at the Kanata Mr. Lube and at the same time got them to change the oil in my transfer case. When reinstalling the transfer case drain plug, they tightened it too much and caused a small crack near the plug. The manager at Mr. Lube advised me as to what happened and said they would silicone the crack to get me on my way but this would be a temporary fix as they had to talk to the owner but would ensure the problem was corrected to my satisfaction.

When I got home, there was a message from the Manager at Mr. Lube wanting to confirm that I got home and advising me that they would source a transfer case and send me to Mr. transmission to correct the problem when the part arrived. It was a Saturday when the incident occurred and on Sunday they called again to make sure everything was ok with the truck. I advised the manager that there was evidence under the truck that it was leaking a little as there was a small spot of oil under the truck about the size of a tennis ball. They manager told me they would prefer that I not drive my truck and that I should rent a car which they would pay for. They sent a flat bed tow truck to my house and towed my vehicle to Mr. transmission. Mr. transmission replaced the transfer case and my truck is fixed.

Was I upset with what happened? Absolutely! Would I go back to Mr. Lube for another oil change? Absolutely! We would all like any type of service we receive to go perfectly but the reality is no one is perfect and we all make mistakes. It's what we do to correct our mistakes that matters. Mr. Lube sent me to a professional company to replace the transfer case at their cost. I didn't ask for a rental car, it was offered at their expense. They incurred about $1, 200 in expenses to rectify their mistake.

I think the complainant that started this thread would have been impressed with Mr. Lube if he had given them the opportunity to correct his alleged complaint.

Kevin

It didn't happen that way at all. In fact, the 2 Caravans being compared was not to find a way to deny the claim. In fact, were you not asked to come in? So we could see the vehicle and to observe the proximity of the wire to the filter? But, you didn't. So please don't say we never took care of you because you never gave us the chance. We are always happy to reimburse someone should we cause damage to one's vehicle. You would have been offered the same courtesy had you taken the time to come in. You only heard what you wanted to hear, although your exageration makes for a good story.

Beware of Lesage Group owned Mr. Lube in Ontario, Newmarket. Just wanted to share a bad experience with the Lesage Group owned Mr. Lube in Newmarket, Ontario. My complaint is somewhat generic, given that many businesses and individuals working in the "quick-oil change and car maintenance industry" have reputations for "milking" the customer and manipulating people who have little knowledge of automobiles. I have a friend who worked for this company years back and even he spoke of more than one story when he...

On July 3rd 2009 I took my 2005 Honda Civic (42000 kms) for an oil change to MR.LUBE. As part of their inspection they removed the air filter. It appeared OK as per their report and the filter was re-installed. The service technician was a teenager, just a kid. Two weeks later my engine failed on July 17th 2009. The vehicle was taken to a Honda Dealership...

Mr. Lube Canada inept service technicians

I brought our van in last fall for an oil change and when we got it home a few days later, I noticed a couple of drops of oil on the floor. It's never leaked a day in it's life so I got the wife to bring it back to the Shop(MacLeod Trl. Calgary) who said everything was just fine. I got an oil warning light yesterday and the engine started making a loud knocking noise. It was due for an oil change, so I decided to try that first. The freaking oil filter wasn't even hand tight and there was only about 1.5-2 litres of oil left in the engine. Now I find out that the noise is most likely from a bent push rod and bearing and a new engine is in my future... and I am pretty sure that I know what the shop is going to tell me... good company.

what would u expect?
it's a company that hires Liars and Criminals!
and yet still uneducative enough, to perform such simple task as oil change!?! lmao!
i suggest learn how to change oil yourself!, if u have a garage that is, or just go to a family owned mechanic shop
saves time and money. u just buy the filter and oil urself :)
there you won't risk of such failures, of waiting lines, the yukki coffee, and just the rude and obviously fake customer service, unless you enjoy supporting an unfair franchise?
anyways..just a thought..thanx for reading :P

No offense 'Beck" but based on my personal experience and the experiences of others that I have read both here and elsewhere - it would seem that the company you work for is not as forth coming on the problems they cause as you might think. Just once I'd like to see anyone from your company admit that an error on their part just 'might' be possible - instead of offering up all sorts of excuses and pointing fingers elsewhere. Despite what you might believe, you are not perfect. Your company is not perfect and sometimes things just go wrong. The longer your company continues to duck and deflect the worse it actually makes you look. My own experience has now made me a hard core advocate for others who have been screwed over by your company. You too will one day have an experience like this with some service provider and I hope when you do that you remember what YOU did to help the victim... Karma rules! You will get back what you give.

Sir, I work at a Mr. Lube and we take the quality of our workmanship very seriously. I'm sure if you bring your concerns to the manager directly he'll investigate your claim and if they were somehow negligent, they will take responsibility. One thing other readers should consider is what is the age and mileage of the car and what kind of service history it has. The oil filter is near the rear and bottom of the engine and when the rear seal is leaking (the gasket seperating the engine from transmission), it can appear that it is coming from the oil filter.

I went to Mr Lube for an oil change for my girfriend's car. During the oil change they recommended that my serpentine belt be replaced. I looked at the belt myself and found no cracking or anything so I turned down the belt replacement. The next day my girlfriend tried to start the car and it wouldn't turn over. She had it towed to a garage and the...

When I rarely go to an oil change place, I want to go in, get my oil change and leave. In the past it normally takes 10-15 minutes to do so. I've tried a number of oil change chains here in Canada over the last 20 years and they've consistently provided 10-15 minute service. On 10/02/07 at Mr. Lube on Fraser Highway in Abbotsford, BC, I was essentially...

Mr. Lube Canada mr lube is like fast food not good for you or your car!

Had an oil change on a 1994 Chev van, they put on an dodge filter that blew off on my way to work it was a stormy day the van came to a stop real fast in the middle of an highway. I paid someone to pick me up and drive me home I phoned for an tow truck we then went into town put the Right filter and oil the van would not start not even from tow truck they told me motor was cooked and towed me home. I did not give up I live in country with nothing to drive, I worked in the cold with heath complications I got it to run again for how long your guess is as good as mine. I then touch base with the store manger in Guelph. He checked out my story and found I was not making it up. He asked me what would make me happy, I told him to get paid for the day of hell I had. He said I will give you your next oil change free Well! He told me that the filter for the dodge will work for the Chev he must think I am stupid thats Ok I now think that Mr Lube is like fast food not good for you or your car.

I’m very disappointed by the fact that being a loyal customer to MR lube, i went to one of your location to get my tire replaced but the garage denied the service as they wanted to go home and was in hurry to close the garage, it was still 15 minutes left for the closing tire.

I went to Mr. Lube located at Walmart#3029 @Parsond Road for my Tire change on 11-May-2023@9:35am.

I have a 2017chevy Malibu and my tires were on the rim. They charged me $128 plus tax. I inquired at other location and I was told it's $80plus tax.

I'm really pissed with this unreasonably high price.

I used Mr Lube service at the Guelph location to regular oil change in my SUV. Next day there were oily spots on the garage floor under the car, and the oil level was 1cm above upper limit, also 2 covers
(oil filter and drain bold) were missing. I had returned to the store; after my complain they re-install covers (forgotten to install after oil changed) and corrected the oil level, but this was not very pleasant experience. First of all, they lied about putting new covers from their stock (installed old ones, originally from my car, dirty covers), finally didn't want to give a new receipt for the service provided.
It was my first and last time visit MR Lube shop. No recommended.

I went to the Guelph Ontario location...
These guys are vultures looking for any weakness of perception or knowledge to exploit in the customer. They were helpful, especially since I am a big guy and have decent car knowledge... BUT They said my cabin air filter was too dirty and needed to be changed, my fluids were dirty and needed to be changed, that it looked like a needed a full tune up... This was 3 months after I bought the car at my dealership dumped 2 grand into the car with a 200 point inspection. When I pointed out that my dealership JUST checked all this stuff they backed off and tried another grifter approach. For the 20 minutes I was there, they pushed 5 or 6 unnecessary repairs on me, saying my car needed it. I am never returning to ANY Mr. Lube location!

I have only ever had possitive experiences at this Mr. Lube location! They keep my car in fantastic running shape and they have educated me greatly on my vehicle and it's maintenance needs. I would not trust any other shop with my family's vehicles! Just one question though...how is fast food bad for your car?
