Canada Post review: Employee job knowledge

Clueless Canada Post employee

On October 14th around noon, I went to the Canada Post outlet at 407 Laurier Ave. W., Ottawa in Minto Place to mail a Remembrance Day lapel pin from the Canadian Legion to a friend in Scotland. There were no other customers around.

The female Canada Post employee asked what was in the packet. I said a Remembrance Day pin. She asked, what ‘remember’. I spelled out R-e-m-e-m-b-r-a-n-c-e and explained the significance. Blank stare. She had no clue.

Canada Post is a crown corporation representing the federal government nationally and their employee has no idea about Remembrance Day. Where do they find these creatures? Why can’t they train them about Canadian events? Does she know about Christmas?

She then said I could send the packet by surface to arrive in eight to twelve weeks. I said Remembrance Day is November 11th don’t you know? Of course, she didn’t know. That’s too long.

So, her next option was airmail to arrive in eight working days, not calendar days, but working days. I wanted to ask how many days Canada Post worked but decided it would be futile. The cost for this option was $80 (eighty) bucks. WOW, incompetence, and exorbitant pricing all at one place. This must be Canada Post.

I paid their rip-ff price and next time will use FedEx or UPS or drive to the US and post from there. Anything to avoid dealing with Canada Post.
