B2.com.audating for seniors

On the weekend I pushed a button on Facebook which was a FREE site for meeting senior singles on line. However, all of a sudden from an amount of $39.95 for a month (which I assumed I would give me access for 1 month, I all of a sudden received an account charged to my American Express card for $234.oo for a 6 month period. I immediately emailed B2.com.au customer service and their reply was that I had already had contact with "my matches" (which were all over the continent & NZ) a refund was not possible. I feel as a pensioner, I have duped into believing this was free. What a farce and I feel it is a scam inducing older people to part with money they can ill afford. What can be done?

@Sandii - They can't take any legal action as they don't comply with Australia's consumer protection laws and they know it so they really don't have a leg to stand on - don't be intimidated by their threatening emails; I've noticed they seem to threaten women a lot more than men - It can't affect your credit rating either so don't worry about it. I would say you've lost the $234, I was lucky I used a top-up Australia Post Debit card that had no money in it and I was furious when they tried to debit it and I let them know that I had no intention of paying them whatsoever and the threats soon stopped so don't be too concerned about it

Sandii, according to my meeting with a solicitor, in Queensland dating agencies are required to be a registered as a business and B2 wasn't. Try contacting the Swedish consumer affairs, see my previous comment. 22/01/13. The emails stopped once they contacted B2. I am sure they would like to know about your compliant. Forget them and try RSVP at least you only have to buy stamps, not a monthly debit from your card. Purchase a woollies preloaded debit card. They only charge $1 each time you load $ onto it. Take care...

I have had the same problem with B2 dating agency. I went on there one night in January 2013 and had a bit of a look and as I could not see any of the images of the people I decided to join up for $5 for one month. About 2 months later I got my credit card bill and was charged $234. I nearly fell over. Being a single parent and having to budget my finances, I thought what the hell is this for. I worked it out and got my bank to reverse the payment. I rang b2 and spoke to a customer service consultant. She told me to email a department within b2 and they would have a look at my complaint. I never heard any thing back from them. I keep receiving emails saying if I don't pay the money they will take legal action and I will get a bad credit rating. Does any one know if they can give you a bad credit rating if you don't pay? Seeing that they are based in Switzerland can they take any legal action against you? I was the same as every other story I have read. I thought I was joining for one month for $5 and all of a sudden I'm paying a Premium Membership of $234. I was so relieved to read all the rest of these stories as I couldn't believe it was happening to me. I cancelled my credit card which they took the money off so they can't deduct it again. If anyone can let me know about the legal action that would be great as I keep getting emails from them saying they are going to take legal action. I live in Queensland. Sandii

Be2 caused me much anguish in 2011 with their intimidation and threats when I tried to close my account. To cut a long story short I contacted the Swedish equivalent of consumers affairs. They wrote to Be2 and sent me a copy of the letter, demanding they stop their harassment. I have never heard from them since. If you would like to contact them please email [email protected] or their web site: www.seco.admin.ch.

Cynthia, don't worry about any debt collectors/legal proceedings and don't pay them a cent! Don't be intimidated as they are all bluff and know they don't have a leg to stand on! I still get the odd email from them with a profile match wanting me to rejoin, even though I cancelled over 8 months ago and after all their legal threats!

I also was not advised of having to pay $249 which they have suddenly started asking me for. I was not receiving any emails with perfect matches for the last 3-4 months at least. I have been called a liar when I said I thought I had cancelled, and not having received any emails for so long thought this had been done. Now I am being threatened with debt collectors/legal proceedings. Thankfully I have not paid them any money and after reading these comments am not likely to.

I was lucky I used a Debit card with only a few dollars in it - I fell for the 1 month special deal and was shocked they tried to debit the whole $234.00 a week or so later and every month after that !- each transaction was declined as I stopped using the card - they would send a polite email reminding me their bill was declined. I tried to unsubscribe to no avail - even sending them very abusive and threatening emails! I got one letter in the mail from a Sydney based debt collector called Baycorp asking me to ring them urgently - I never rang and they've been ringing my mobile at least once a week for the past 6 months (from an Indian based call centre of course) which I never answer - they can keep this up for as long as they like as I know this Swiss based mob are a bunch of scammers - they will get no money out of me that's for sure! I urge people not to join Be2 and never give them your credit card number! They are nothing but frauds!

I agree, I pushed tehe button and suddenly found myself a "Premium Member", cost $234.
I've tried to cancel but the number, presumably for Australia, goes nowhere.
I'm still working on it. I warned them that I was wary of scams, but they were better at it. A rough way to treat pensioners

My story is much the same, became a member for 39.00au got charged 295.00, tried to dispute the bill, cancel my membership, revoke an terminate the contract...to no avail. All I got was automated response on how to cancel online which led me to a dead end.I refused fill in the form and sign it that they provide for fax cancellation and send it to some unknown destination overseas. So I have cancelled my credit card, now I'm getting threatening emails that they will send a debt collection agency. I have sufficient evidence that I have genuinely tried to cancel the membership, so I am now ready to take legal action. Has anybody actually ended up in court being sued be b2 or suing their scamming ### off??? I can't find one story about an individual being sued or vise versa, where is the end to those stories?...does that mean that all of you are now gone, because they have sent a hit man on you to get their money back. nervous>>lol

What happened to the good old days when people didnt need a computer or a website to meet people?Maybe the answer is to turn off the computers and get outside and enjoy yourself theres others doing the same and thats how people use to meet in the good old days before computers. People are everywhere the Grocery Store, the Post Office, Even in the Workplace, Got a dog? take your dog for a walk in the park. That way you dont get scammed by online websites that just want to steal your hard earned cash & you dont get scammed by people who are less than honest when they put up their pictures & profiles, some of them are scammers as well.

To comment on b2.com dating agency. I'm obvioulsy not the online who had been duped to pay a substantial amount (EUR184.67) whereas they advertised the subscription as free for six months if I remember well. Suddenly big amount to pay, I called my bank and kindly enough they recalled the charge and credited my account back ! B2.com says you can cancel but nowhere on their pages can you find a way to cancel! I received a letter in April/May asking for the money. I June I received a 7 days notice for payment otherwise they will instigate legal proceedings against me through their English Lawyers. Is that really possible?!

Yes the same thing happened to myself. It stated that I had commenced Premium membership application and could not access any further information until I completed it. Sent the administrators a message stating that I had only been on the site for four days and was not ready to commit to a membership at this stage. Have not heard back.

sounds like a good idea to but I'm afraid if I reply to their email from my outlook program they will hack all my contact details.
I've had responses to emails but not specifically to the above. Best offer so far isa reduction to 3 months and a refund but not in signed letter format with guarantees as demanded. I'm not expecting anything from them this way but amusing myself by annoying them when I have a spare moment. I create new profiles with blatantly anti scamming names, carefully word greetings/captions/responses with anti-scamming sentiments in the hope that at least some other people will be forewarned about joining. Cheers

Did you receive a reply to your letter? If you don't want to talk here email me...
I have not accessed the B2 site as my lawyer told me not to. What do you mean by ladies annoying you??? Send them an email asking for 7000 euros like they do to us.
Marlene and Alannah - If either of you reside in QLD, then the introduction agents act 2001 ammended in 2011 state the introduction agency should be registered in QLD, my legal adviser checked them out and they are not registered in QLD therefore opperating illegally.
If you want to get together with a class action let me know...

Thanks for sending the form too...I feel very badly for the others who have lost hope and so much money. After reading the many contributions at the site you referred me to I discovered a loophole they might use against me so just sent them the following...if nothing else I feel a bit better for doing so. Enjoy and stay strong.

    To whom it may concern:

    RE Bill sent to JAE6153

I have been alerted to the fact that the bill received by me on 10/11/11 includes reference to several things which I must dispute within a 6 week period to avoid B2 being able to assert that the bill is valid and approved by me.

Your records will show that I have been in dispute re your service and charges since before even receiving the bill that day and have gotten nowhere fast so I have little doubt that my effort will be no more worthwhile than previously. Nevertheless I formally dispute the bill because:
    1. I NEVER received a reference to the existence/location of terms and conditions prior to being led to the finalisation of the membership process and therefore do not believe that I can be regarded as having agreed with them.
    2. I NEVER sighted a page detailing the specific financial transaction that B2 intended to make prior to providing my credit card information or prior to finalising the transaction.
    3. I NEVER agreed to enter into a 12 month contract which would cost $AUD39 per month and believe I was deceived to proceed after seeing a promotion which I understood offered a 12 month service for a special reduced price of only $AUD39.00.
    4. I NEVER agreed to pay $AUD468 as a single payment and therefore demand a refund of that amount in full.
    5. I NEVER agreed to pay anything via an international payment which would subsequently incur international transaction fees of $14.04 and I demand that the money be refunded in full and therefore demand a reimbursement for this charge in full
    6. I NEVER agreed to enter into a contract with a Switzerland based company which is masquerading as an Australian entity by utilising a ".com.au" address and not actually governed by Australian law or reasonable consumer protection provisions .
    7. I NEVER received prior advice/warning that my "right of withdrawal cannot be exercised once" I "have started to use the paid service"
    8. I NEVER received prior advice/warning re what constituted "use of the service" and certainly did not expect it to include the mere receipt and rejection of automated (ie impersonal) emails received upon "registering for free" "on behalf of" accounts which were at best not matches for set parameters and at worse not attached to actual people,
    9. I NEVER received prior advice/warning that my "Premium Membership" would "be automatically renewed unless "cancelled "in writing fourteen days before expiry of the access period or, if another termination period was communicated, within this other stated termination period" or that there would be no online or option to do so within 14 days of the commencement of any contract or that alternative options would be exhaustive/frustrating and ineffectual.
    10. I NEVER suspected that Mastercard etc would continuously extend credit card debit facilities to a thoroughly disreputable and unconscionable entity which has been so enabled to run what I have learned is a very extensive international scam for many years to the financial and emotional detriment of countless customers.
    11. I NEVER knew that registration with B2.com.au could expose me to being contacted by very undesirable characters making false claims about themselves while seeking financial advantage of others.
    12. I NEVER knew that the only real people B2 could connect me to as a PERFECT MATCH could be those who have also been sadly disappointed/frustrated and ripped off by this bogus 'dating service' and even this is not possible because we all have enough good sense to know that it would be a tragic waste of hopes and energy to use a service widely recognised as being nothing more than a scam.

Attached to this email is a copy of some of the many statements that have been made by some of B2's dissatisfied customers on just 1 of the many such sites I found (ie http://lucieanne.hubpages.com/hub/Be2-dating-is-a-scam-Beware). Other such sites include:

    http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/home.php?sk=group_162710357100632&ap=1
This information is provided to substantiate that what I have written is typical of the experiences of B2 customers.
If I have not received, within 24 hours, appropriate EVIDENCE that what I have written above is untrue and/or incorrect, it will be regarded by me as being accurate and presented to Mastercard as such to ensure that they thoroughly review your right to continue to abuse access to their customers. Irrespective of their or B2's response to this email I consider that B2 is obligated to immediately refund and reimburse me the amounts hereby demanded by making a direct credit to mastercard number xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx (ie the account which was used for the unlawful debiting purposes).
Naturally B2 would remain entitled to pursue any legitimate claims it believes it has against me. Indeed I encourage B2 to initiate court proceedings, in Australia, to recover any money which it can prove it is owed as I and others would more than welcome the opportunity to defend the matter vigorously and so expose your operation more widely.

thanks - I cancelled my card within 30 minutes of giving my details to B2.com.au because my bank called to query a $468 transaction. I'm hoping for a refund after disputing that initial transaction and the following overseas transaction fee were illegal because the only figure I agreed to during the sign up process was $39 and the fact that, since it is billing from outside Australia and providing no evidence of having an Australian existence, they misrepresented themselves as being an entity which would be accountable to Australian law. Further that they falsely led me to believe that real people had shown a specific interest in corresponding with me personally. At the very least I want Mastercard to reverse its decision to enable this organisation to continue to benefit financially while destroying the lives of its customers.

My bank ANZ has a fraud area and if B2 try to take $ out (which they did, sent me an email telling me I had until 13/12 to put the money in) they will investigate. go to yr bank and have a chat. This company is operating illegally in Queensland as the Introduction Agency ACT of Qld directs the introduction agency to be registered in QLD and B2 are not registered!!!

I too was enticed to follow the link on Facebook and, after spending considerable effort to create a profile, found myself receiving emails which I presumed were from real people. When I tried looking at the profiles I was directed to a page which offered a 12 month membership for $39 (I'm sure it was a flat rate but they insist it was the monthly rate) and I decided to join. I then found that none of the people 'emailing' me had detailed profiles and 1 lived across the country (ie outside the area I specified as being of any interest). Thinking it was a legitimate email, I politely responded that I had specified WA only and that our locations were incompatible. I then noticed that I had supposedly sent lots of emails and noted that these were sent on my behalf. I then checked my inbox and found that all the emails I had received were also sent "on behalf" of members (ie automated and not personal) so I emailed B2 and complained that the whole thing looked like a scam and that I wanted my money back. They claimed I couldn't have a refund because I had received and sent emails. I then had a phonecall from my bank asking if I had approved a $468 transaction and I freaked out. I immediately disputed the transaction, cancelled the credit card and have been engaged in an email argument with B2 ever since. When they told me that I had to cancel my subscription via an online option I tried but found that the option does not exist; I reported the problem and was advised the option doesn't appear until 2 weeks after the service is started (ie after the period specified in which cancellation is supposedly possible). When I complained about that and they told me to fax a letter to Switzerland. When I refused they said that the subscription would be renewed automatically forever until I did. Eventually they provided an Australian fax number for this purpose so it is possible that they do have an Australian office (which of course they should have if purporting to operating here with a .com.au address) but ignore all requests to provide details of an Australian base (ie name, ABN, telephone number etc.) The only good that I have achieved is they have confirmed that my signed letter (sent as a pdf via email) has been accepted as a cancellation re the future but won't refund my money etc.

If I get the chance I will definitely take them to court but need Australian addresses etc to do this...if you ever find this information (ie if they actually do commence legal action against you) please forward to me

Yes this is what is happening to me at the moment. I tried to send a letter to B2 via the fax number they gave me. It was not delivered on 2 occasions so I sent them an email to inform them, well by the time I received a reply it was about 12 days before the subscription was due to be renewed. I'd also told B2 that I wanted to end the subscription via their 'customer care' and through my account as I had no end of scammers contact me and on one occasion abused me and kept calling me numerous times when I would not give them $7000 euros. It was very distressing. I clearly told B2 of the issues and they sent an email saying 'unfortunately there are scammers however I should give it another go...'.
I do not want to give it another go. I want to end the membership. They do not listen. This company is misleading they do not care for their members by making it so difficult to end their membership. Now they are threatening me with legal action because I did not end my subscription in time!! This is so frustrating. Can someone help?

I agree with Marlene. I was under the assumption that the fee for a 6 month period was $39.95 and I too were billed for $234.00!!! I suppose being a business in Switzerland they know they are safe from legal action. They say I will be automatically charged for another 6 months if I do not write to them to cancel my subscription two weeks before the 6 months is up!!! What a scam!!!
