I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction with an incident that occurred during a recent visit to the Walmart store located at 272 McGettigan Boulevard, Marystown, NL (A0E 2M0).
While shopping with my wife, I noticed a Blackstone grill displayed with a rollback price of $17.00, reduced from its original price of $597.00. Recognizing this as an unusually significant price reduction, I approached a floor associate to confirm its accuracy. The associate informed me that, according to Walmart policy, the store would have to honor the displayed price and advised me to proceed to customer service.
Upon arriving at customer service, I encountered an associate whose demeanor I found to be quite rude. She instructed me to speak with a manager and proceeded to call one. After waiting, the manager arrived and asked me to show her the item, which I did. We discussed the pricing and applicable policy, and at that time, she appeared to agree that the store should honor the advertised price.
However, another associate intervened, stating that it was “impossible” for the price to have changed accidentally, suggesting instead that the number could not have physically fallen or been altered. It was then proposed that the store review surveillance footage. The staff left to investigate and returned after some time.
During this waiting period, several other customers commented that Walmart should honor the displayed price. Despite this, I was later informed that the camera footage did not show any evidence of tampering. Shortly thereafter, another manager, identified as Terry, arrived and stated that the store would not honor the advertised price, effectively ending the discussion without further explanation or consideration.
This experience was both frustrating and disappointing. Not only was there inconsistency in how staff interpreted and applied Walmart’s pricing policy, but the manner in which the situation was handled lacked professionalism and respect for the customer. It is particularly concerning that a policy was referenced by staff but ultimately disregarded without clear justification.
I would appreciate clarification on Walmart’s pricing policy and an explanation as to why it was not upheld in this instance. Additionally, I hope that steps can be taken to ensure staff are properly trained to handle similar situations consistently and respectfully in the future.
