I rented a BMW X6 from the Seattle airport on December 10,2025 and returned it on December 12,2025. When I returned it I asked the worker if everything was good and if I could leave for my flight, he said I was good and could leave. He never said there was any damage to the vehicle while it was in my possession. I then received an email on December 15,2025, claiming there were scratches down to the primer. Now, I only drove this vehicle to my hotel and a mall, both of which I made sure to park where zero cars were parked so that it WOULDN'T get scratched! I literally drove it two places and parked it where nobody else was, yet somehow cause $2200 in damges from scratches. Mind you, I just had a Sixt rental BMW X5 on Maui for 10 days, drove it everywhere and had zero issues after returning it. They scanned the vehicle when leaving and returning, so assumed Seattle did the same, they apparently do not. This seems to be a common scam that is in all of the complaints online. I emailed asking for the images of damage, since the link disappeared after I filled it out and nobody responded. I then called corporate on December 26,2025 and was just told that they would be pursuing the claim, without providing evidence that I caused the damage while the vehicle was in my possession. This vehicle is loaded with cameras, I own a BMW X7, so I know they can provide evidence that this was done while I had possession, but when I asked for pictures and videos of the vehicle being damaged during my rental days, they declined to provide any evidence. My sister in law worked for a rental car company and quit because they wanted her to do this very scam on a renter and charge for damages they didn't do, so I know this is a common scam that rental car companies try to use. They will charge for damage, never fix it, and charge other people for the same damage. This is very disappointing and I will be returning to National Car Rental for all of my business and personal travel, which is a significant amount. So I hope trying to charge a customer for scraches that they didn't cause is worth the thousands of dollars in rentals that will now go back to National Car Rental, who have never tried this stunt with me or my husband.
Desired outcome: Claim dismissed without evidence that renter caused the scratches while in their possession.
