Can someone help. I have fallen for these advertisements saying I have won $5000 on a netspend prepaid visa card and have had many sent just to activate the card and get nothing. And thats not the only lie they sent me my card when I opened a new account with netspend and along with the card a letter saying I was approved for a $500 line of credit if I activated my card on netspend web site along with this approval code. Im really upset I feel like netspend will do or say whatever it takes to get people to sign with them. They have messed with me too much and I dont know if I have a lawsuit. When I called netspend on ths matter they wouldnt let me talk to anyone incharge the girl acted as if she put her supervisor on acan someone help. The card is marketed to low income or people with bank problems. I think they are consciously using the bad economy in order to acquire people who would otherwise avoid this scam like the plague.
Impossible to get cash from this card unless you spend money. You must buy something at the grocery store chain, or pay out the nose for fees from atms are the only way to get cash.
Service fees to report stolen money or missing cards.
Service fees to get account balances over the automated phone system.
Unconcerned with discrepancies.
My complain is this;
Nobody is there to defend the little people from companies who make millions from nickle and dimming the people who dont, cant, or wont use a bank.
Who do I turn to when bank keeps on taking small amounts of money from me? Why must they use poor people to fund themselves?
Who is there to protect us?
Many people are stuck in this same situation, the world we live in now insists on a debit card, one must have some kind of plastic to make use of this world and its a shame many people are stuck in a situation where they are victimized like this.
Heb and netpend customer service should be ashamed to work for companies like this.

There were unauthorized transactions from my account. All in one day ranging from Georgia to Great Britain and was never caught by any of the Skylight employees. Waste of time contacting the fraud department. They want you to spend more money to get every transaction you are disputing notarized, and get a police report. I trusted them with my money just to get ripped off. Visa returned the money just for skylight to take 3/4 of it for fees from the account being overdrawn. When I told them that was from the unauthorized transactions they told me that were there fees and they cannot reimburse them. When asked to talk to a supervisor they hung up on me. Needless to say I told them close the account, I want my name in no way associated with there company. Week later account still wasn't closed. They claim in takes 3 days to close an account? Garbage. NO ONE SHOULD USE THEM if you want to keep your money!
My advice to you would be to pay the $5 to close the account and go to a real bank, or you will continue to have nothing but issues with them. I did and haven't had one issue since. Skylight should be shut down!
my skylight account on line tells me i have a positive balance plus overdraft protection when i call the card i am -242 dollars in my account same result at atm when i did speak to a towel head he said all is well i do have money in my account but when asked why i couldnt get money out i got a unaudiable explanation with NO satisfaction or reasoning what so ever
For the past month I been going threw all kinds of issues. Now I am at my breaking point. I been using the last account number with them for the past 2 years. I had money put on my card and was wondering why it hasnt showed up. Me being patient I waited to days before I called. When I called they told me I have the wrong account number. Really. I said Ms I been using the same account number since it was given to me. They never sent me any of the information I requested. My online banking has not been reset. They are very rude. I dont know where my job found these from. They are the worst.

All the money was stolen from my card $890.00 on [protected]. 2 days before this happened my account was blocked so I called customers service and was told that somebody has been calling in on my account and they askedd if it was me and I said no and that the person was 1 digit off and so that's why they blocked my account ok good. Then I was told that I had to send over documents to the fraud department. I asked to speak to the fraud department then I was told that I could not speak to the fraud department because the fraud department does not speak to customers directly I could only fax them or email them. I emailed them the documents that they had requested and then they unblocked my account. Ok the next morning casey m. Rumph transferred $890.00 from my account to there account I received a text telling me this so I immediately called netspend to let them know that I didn't do this transaction and I need the money put back into my account. Well casey had made a transaction of $705.23 and they put $184.77 back on my account now I had to go to the claims department to dispute the transaction so that I could get my money back.
Now here is were the problems come in why was it that when my account was blocked the first time and I called in and askedd to speak to the fraud department I was told that they do not speak to customers directly I could only email or fax them, but now that my money is stolen I can speak with the fraud department? The fraud department the ordered me a new card, changed my pin number, and my security question. Now that my money is stolen and I have to wait 2 weeks 10 business days its ok to speak with the fraud department?
When I finally did speak with the fraud department I askedd them this same question then I was told it is up to the customer service person to determine if they will transfer you to the fraud department or not. That is crazy and a policy that needs to be changed immediately because if I was allowed to speak with the fraud department when this fist happened and they blocked the account I would have changed the information then and they would not have been able to steal the money. My account being blocked and I had to send forums to the fraud department should have been enough cause for me to speak with the fraud department then also and this nightmare would not have happened.
Your foreign customer service is the worst I have ever experienced very hard to understand english, rude will only answer question that they want to ask not the questions that you asked them.
I have been a netspend customer for many years and have quite of my friends that use netspend because I told them about it, and this is the worst experience I have ever had with any company. I hope you will straighten this matter very soon and I hope to here from you soon and get this matter resolved.

I was a customer for three years. They blocked my account because they said they couldn't verify my address. So I got a check back for my remaining balance. I went to open an account with Paypal and they said they couldn't open an account because Netspend said I commited Fraud. I think the only solution is they have to pay. So once they start having to pay for their fraudulant behavior. If you can't truely proove that I comitted fraud I want some hard earned cash, yes I said cash for holding up my SSI for almost 3 weeks. It still says on my credit report That I comitted fraud with Netspend Well I think about 3 times the amount held back plus maybe 100 dollars a day till they correct this injustice. This morning I spoke to an Andrew from the fraud dept. We were called by a James who claimed to work for Southern California Edison. He told us we needed to pay $792 or our electricity would be disconnected. We paid at the local MoneyGram Kiosk and later I received a call for an additional request of $750 deposit. When I refused to pay, I called Southern California Edison to complain. That is where I was told this was all a scam. I attempted to stop payment at MoneyGram and with NetSpend. Please it is important someone call me to immediately attempt to resolve this matter. It is difficult to get through your phone system since I am prompted for a net spend card number.

NETSPEND is the worst ever. I've been calling in a bout the block on my account for TWO days now and the problem has yet to be fix and from the looks of it it'll never be fix. I couldn't pay my sons daycare I couldn't get my sons medication all because of a BLOCK that NETSPEND places onto my account. Now did I request for thei black HELL no😡. I didn't ask NETSPEND to monitor my money l ask for an account to put MY MONEY. As I am typing I am on hold I hate calling NETSPENDS customer service department (15mins on hold) the Rep has yet to come back to the phone to say anything to me not ever to refresh her hold yet she will still be on a JOB(Not a good look for a customer rep that represents the company). I've requested for a manager there seems to be not one on SITE i asked for a Supervisor and it was like pulling teeth so I can only imagine what like getting this manager. All I want is MY MONEY. On Feb. 2 I was suppose to receive my income direct deposit with Netspend. Didn't receive refund due to the fact that I need to show proof of income. Ok understandable so I send in proof of income and was told it take 8 hours to process. Fine. So I'm patiently waiting call back two days later no one has received information and wasn't given a reference number the first time which they should given me one so I have to send information again and wait 8 more hours (getting very frustrated now) so decide to call back the next day still haven't took the block off my card and haven't received refund yet. Netspend does not reimburse fees that paypal incurrs on your card. Even though I submitted a letter showing netspend that it ws their mistake, I was told that the $4 in multiple attempts to get a large amount on the card on the same day was their error. They told me to look at my contract. So I closed the account.

Having tried to get through on their automated phone service well over a dozen times, I had to talk to an actual person to get my balance. Now I have two charges for needing my account info, because their phone system is all messed up! I've lost money to these jerks for checking my balance at an ATM I'm allowed to use (never saw THAT in the fine print!) and for all types of things. These people are SHADY! Stay far far away from them. Worst bank ever, period.

Please never use netspend. I had my tax return deposit in my account on the 8th of feb 2012 and by the 10th of feb 2012 I had an unauthorized transfer to occur. $2, 440.00 was taken out my account and transferred to someone I dont know. I filed a complaint and now waiting on an affidavit from the company through my email 24 to 48 hrs is what they told me its 2 days later. Tomorrow is the deadline for them I swear im taking them to the media. There are so many horror stories about netspend I wish I would known.

This just happened to me tonight. It was all the money I have in the world right now and my gas tank is empty. I have to wait until the morning to call them. I spoke with an agent earlier because I could not get into my account. I transferred everything to my savings so it couldn't be used and was going to withdraw everything tomorrow, however an hour later everything was gone and transferred user to user to a James Coleman who I've never even heard of. I can't get into my account again either because my user name/password/email has been changed. They told me that I wouldnt have any problems being a tax preparer as far as recieving my fees charged to those customers onto my card and they blocked the card when the fees became available on the card today. i had my refund direct deposited onto my netspend visa debit card and it was sent to them on april 9 2009 from internal revenue service and netspend hasnt posted it to my card and everytime i call i am only being directed back to internal revenue and being rushed off of the telephone.
I have been with netspend since 2007. Until this year I have never had any problems with them. In February 2012 a company from 3 years ago was able to withdrawl nearly $200 from my account then they add over draft charges to boot. After 3 days we finally got our money put back on the card from the company and the overdraft taken care of. Today netspend stated that we would get our VA dd and thenscrewed everyone by not doing so and not giving us a straight answer and this is memorial day weekend. Lots of people are missing out on the holiday, food and bills that needed to be taken care of and family graduation. ISm done with netspend there are other places to bank.
Do not under any circumstances use this company. I have been a customer of Netspend for several years without a problem until recently. I have done numerous transactions using my NetSpend Visa card, to pay for items won on EBay. I have an account with PayPal to pay for my purchases. When I tried to pay funds are supposed to be transfered from my NetSend card to PayPal. I was given a message that said "this card cannot be used for this transaction"! I immediately call NetSpend and was told that "our system is down, wait a few hours". Well needless to say, I am still waiting after several days. You will be put on hold for a very long time, and yes the customer srevice reps sound if they are reading from a script. Called their corporate headquarters and was told "someone will get back to me". I encourage EVERYONE who has been RIPPED OFF to contact the Attorney Generals Office of their state. It is not enough to complain amongst ourselves regarding the shady practices of this company. They have scammed Thousands and will continue to do so. I have read too many stories about customers who have direct deposited money just to have it vanish. Remember "Bernie Maddoff"!
hello, my name is patricia myers, the department of treasury sent my refund on june 12th, and they still have'nt posted it to my account.i had to fax my w-2 form, my 1040 form, my 5405 form, and before i faxed my 5405 form, they told me that after i faxed that they would deposit my money, well i faxed that then, they told me i had to fax my ultility bill, i thought they was a prepaid card company, i fill like i'm being integragated.i picked this prepaid card company, because after reading thru the terms and conditions, i thought they was alright, guess i was wrong, anyway, i faxed my ultility bill, and they still have'nt posted my refund to my account.my bill is do too.i don't understand really.the irs already did there job, i wish i never chose netspend for my tax refund, never again i won't recommend this company to noone, especially if there bills are do, and there relying on netspend to post there deposit.

I had a company (Peoplefinders.com) make an unauthorized charge to my card. I called and had the charge blocked and the money returned to my account. They went ahead and let the peoplefinders.com charge my account anyway even though me as the owner had told them that this company was illeglally charging my account. Great comapny to be watching over your money I now have $1.79 in my account.

Netspend allowed 3 unauthorized transactions. I already had a negative balance and they allowed it to go even more with a total of $387 negative. How can they allow someone to take out that much money if there wasnt anything in there! I told them I did not authorize it so put it back! They said they could not. They also would not put a supervisor on the phone!

I called to cancel my card and I was Hung up on 6 times when I was being polite and then I waited 20 min to speak to a supervisor and I never got to because they Hung up on me again and the first time I actually got to talk to a representative she was rude didn't listen to a single word I said and after yelling over my voice when I was talking she Hung up on me as well. This company is worthless and to anyone considering them for business I would strongly discourage you from doing so they are the worst customer service people I have ever felt with by FAR!

i agree... I am on the phone right now with the company due to a ATM malfunction... and Skylight took the money off of my card and NOTHING dispensed from the ATM. They are being very rude in regards to trying to handle the matter. I literally just got laughed at by a customer service guy that thought it was pretty funny that I am waiting this long for them to handle the matter. Then the manager got on the phone and laughed... what type of company is this? They have children handling customer service... IT ALMOST SOUNDS LIKE CHILD LABOR! They have NO IDEA whats going on. On july 1 my husband and I took a short trip to ogden utah. We checked in july 1 (I had already paid online for room) the next morning I was able to go online to check my husbands account, to find out to our horror that someone accessed my husbands credit card number and made another card (Since we only have one card) and went on a buying spree buying gift cards at three walmarts in new mexico. We immediately called netspend and cancelled our card. We called the walmarts and the managers investigated and one even had the man on video. We then called the sheriff in new mexico to report this. Armed with this information we sent all necessary documentation to netspend. We had to cancel our trip short because it wiped my husbands account out and we were broke. Online netspend will tell you they work to make sure your money is safe and they protect you, blah blah blah, this is all a lie they never called us, this was definetly suspious activity, three waqlmarts all gift card buying in one days time?Hello! Netspend does it again... (Read my 1st complaint below)... Netspend says it has security features to protect its consumers, but I am doubting that now as they have once again allowed charges to a card that was reported lost over a year ago, for some reason the merchants that had this number to which I had dealings with are still allowed to debit the card even though the card was taken out of service as lost by netspend... That brings to question if netspend really has consumer protection in mind and if there security features are any good... How do you use a card thats suppose to be inactive? I fear that netspend has issues with its security features that it dosent have a handle on... My recommendation to consumers is buyer beware and dont believe the hype about you and your money being secured... I hpoe this dosent happena 3rd time... Following is my 1st complaint: I had a netspend prepaid card so I would not have to use my real credits cards when buying over internet or paying some bills, I had a problem with the company when I didnt have the funds on the card and they paid a bill that was not authorized to be paid, they said that they had paid the bill because then they would deduct it from monies I would deposit later, I told them I didnt authorize them to pay any bills for me especially if the funds were not on the card, I then told them to cancel the card and they refused saying I needed to pay them 1st, I refused and told them that they needed to recover what ever unauthorized money they had put on my card from the merchant...
I have had over $900 in unauthorized charges taken out of my card and have had -0- luck in getting these back. They have no security features on their cards to protect their customers from, oh - 8 consecutive payments to Itunes in the span of 30 minutes. I followed everything that I was supposed to and I still didn't get my money back. Buyer beware - there is no protection over your money!

Warning to everyone who uses this company for direct deposit! I had fraudulant charges on my account from the UK (almost $500) and after 2 months of trying to get a statement from these idiots to dispute the charges, I still have yet to receive one. Mail, fax, ect I can't ever get one from them! I also lost my online access because the fraudulant card was cancelled. Everytime I call they promise to send me one, I never get it. My hands are tied, I can't even file a police report without the paperwork they refuse to send me. Do yourself a favor and destroy any card you have with them and deal with a real bank!

I was charged for a failed transfer of funds that 'looped' from my account, back into my account (I didn't know that I couldn't transfer funds out of my account at the time, until I spoke with netspend and their funds-transferring associate, vesta) , after the transaction occurred. Vesta confirmed that netspend did charge $5.95, when I tried transferring $31.87 on june 13, 2011 to what I thought was supposed to go to my bank account. However, vesta also confirms that I was credited back of the $31.87 only $25.92, which also happened in the same night. However, netspend's system shows that it posted on reversed dates, and not in chronological order. Netspend's customer service representative (Chris) said (After lying about the charge of $5.95) that netspend did charge it, but never posted it. I noticed the pattern as well. When I asked to speak to their supervisor, I was on hold for another 20-plus minutes before I hung up, knowing that they were deliberately blowing me off, because they didn't want to deal with their mistakes (Or answering for them for that matter).
My friend that I send money to also said she's been getting charged nearly every single time I send money to her netspend's $10.00 monthly fee (Two or more times in one month) , and had of the $70.00 that I sent her on june 28, 2011 $50.00 held for the merchant. Netspend's automated system says the minimum when paying at the gas pump to be held is $75-100.00 is to be held for the merchant (No reason why, when the funds are guaranteed funds).
Netspend has been also using their transferring funds company (Vesta) and their parent-company (Metabank) as scapegoats or fronts, by telling the customers to file complaints or inquiries with either of them and not netspend, when netspend was the one conducting in such indiscretions.

I dont agree with the 3 page b/s Ortiz is shoveling either. Now Im a highly educated individual and Ive received a message alert by phone for my personal info because I won $5000 to be loaded on a netspend card. Same responses with the customer service reps. No supervisor available. Wait 30 min to an hour then get hung up on. Wen i finally talk to some1 from netspend tells me the card will be loaded in 30 days. I call bak & no one knws wat im talkin bout. Now this bogus activity seems awful suspicious seeing that netspend dnt even wanna take the tiime to trace this info. Yet you are still trying to get me to set up direct deposit on a card I didnt need. Im asking bout this $5000 you say i won and u trying to sell me every other promotion. U have. I dnt need a netspend card, i have my own bank account where they charge no fees for petty things. Give me wat u say i won or try and fix the problem! Its funny to me how u dnt know how my information got to you! Any legitmate business should at least knw that! It makes me think you are a part of the scam wen u dont even try to find out who is sending the alerts! ortiz is a liar. I have been with netspend since 2007. you are wrong netspend are, 'lairs, 'and crooks they will tell you anything then release your funds right after you hangup. I hage lots'of proof, we just got rid of them for one account and ow the other. I advise you do the same.
ortiz is a liar and so is netspend. we get emails from netspend every month that say payday is on a specific day. then the money not show for a week later, and to prove this I can call the VA benefits line and they tell me when they sent my money to netspend. then call netspend back and they say they don't see it. I hangup and the money pop up. I got rid of them and I recommend you do the same, they will eventually fall, and your money will be lost. We have even had them hangup in our face when confronted in a nice way, if you dont believe. Just set them'up just as we are. Netspend are liars and they steal.PROMISE. Do this test yourself, and you will catch them. WE NEED TO STAND UP.
To anyone that took the time to read this complaint, and then was surprisingly intrigued by the content which led to possibly needing clarification on the issue(s) concerned, please continue reading. There have been large amounts of misinformed people spreading bogus information about Netspend. I am not an employee of Netspend, and I am not getting paid by/for them in any way what-so-ever! I'm simply a long time customer of Netspend and would hate to see the company change their policies in a way that hurts their loyal base due to the people that are circulating the same lies over and over. The incorrect information can get cleared up & the issues can be settled once and for all. That is...as long as people listen (read) without bias and/or pre-conceived notions; as well as, "hear" all that is being said. ;)
I've been with Netspend for years, and have recommended the Netspend card to several family members and friends. In my experience with Netspend, never have I known them to EVER portray themselves as anything other than a PREPAID DEBIT CARD! There is NO credit limit because your available amount to spend is limited to what YOU deposit on your card. I cannot believe some people and the things they complain about! It's ridiculous! Furthermore, there isn’t a COMPANY ANYWHERE that would send someone a letter stating they won $5000 to open an account! I find myself questioning whether or not this person has the mental capacity to successfully handle their own financial matters. To truly believe such an absurd offer, it’s feasible to believe a trusted relative and/or friend should be taking care of their finances.
Rather than admit THEIR lapse in judgment for being naïve about an obvious SCAM, this absurd individual presumed to explore the potential of a lawsuit against Netspend in lieu of filing a report/complaint against the perpetrator that was actually responsible for the fraudulent attempt! It’s truly unfortunate that people such as these are (at least partially) responsible for the less than helpful, rude and/or unsympathetic customer service people regularly encounter. Since I previously worked for a financial conglomerate handling a wide variety of customer service related inquiries; I can attest from experience that working with disrespectful, rude, and uncompromising segments of the population quickly becomes tiresome. Frequent interaction with a belligerent and/or abusive someone may be overlooked to an extent, but a person’s instinctual defense mechanism will supersede etiquette ideology if/when a threat looms.
Encountering a person that doesn’t accept responsibility for any of their actions or behavior is not only annoying, but sadly troubling as well. To this personality type, everything is “some other” party’s problem/mistake. This is why they feel justified in REFUSING to listen and/or hear what another person is attempting to explain! As far as they are concerned, they already have the answers to life’s issues (as they see them) so there isn't ANYTHING anyone else can say/do to persuade consideration of another point of view. Disturbingly, this online selfish/self-absorbed thinking is proving to be quite common since I stumbled upon another (similar in nature) message board. Written in the same context /tone, another disgruntled group was carrying on about how they were going to report/sue Netspend for "sending them a credit card in the mail that they did not apply for!"
Once again, regardless of the people on the message board attempting to EXPLAIN the facts about Netspend promotional prepaid debit cards which arrive in the mail, the second group of message board participants (like those on the first message board) did not understand how a promotional debit card could be rendered USELESS to anyone other than the person it was addressed to. As with the first group, when they didn't "get it, ” they refused any further information, and became unwilling to accept further continuation on the subject. Personally, I cannot comprehend how these feeble minded imbeciles can feverishly get STUCK on the conclusion that a Netspend card is the same thing as a traditional credit card? On top of that, the fact that they believe someone could perpetuate an attack on their identity with it. They literally talk before thinking and before getting the facts. They refused to grasp the concept that even IF there were a thief, he/she would have to load THEIR OWN MONEY on the card to use it.
Furthermore, Netspend does NOT have access to any of their money (bank accounts, credit cards, etc.) unless THEY decide to load their money on the Netspend card! It’s really odd to me that people can have so much to say when they have NO authority on the subject; as well as, remain absent minded to the posted Netspend facts/rules including how a new cardholder has to personally TELL NETSPEND the REMAINDER of their personal information to activate, have, and/or use the card that was received! Without all these steps, a Netspend card is completely useless! If the situation wasn't so sad and pathetic, it would be hilariously funny! These are the same types of characters that will shout to the world how ignorant everyone else is! Hopefully, someday, these people will see enough of these messages for the “factual” “truth” to finally break through the thick skull that holds their "wee-little brains."
Then, they can finally admit that Netspend did nothing illegal, immoral and/or wrong relating to anyone’s personal information which could jeopardize a person’s identity. Sadly, I don’t think these types of people will "ever" admit they are or were wrong. They would much rather go through life perpetuating a lie and slandering a company that never did anything to them other than mail them a generic “offer.” It would be really funny for those people to find out and realize that the ONLY potential for a lawsuit would be one “against” THEM-the ones “threatening to sue Netspend? Netspend could reasonably sue THEM for slander-they, on the other hand, have not been wronged in any way or had any damages!
Stupid is as stupid does. Even Forest Gump had more sense than these types of people. I just hope Netspend appreciates (and continues to appreciate) all their GOOD customers that take time out of their days (like I just did) and defend them repeatedly out of the goodness of our hearts. The loyal and good Netspend customers deserve to be treated with kindness and respect! THAT is what is MOST important to us, and what we actually CARE about. Then again, a little reward and/or incentive never hurt anyone. : p :)
