Vanilla Gift Cards A Cautionary Tale: Beware of Vanilla Gift Cards

Dear Readers, I feel compelled to share a cautionary tale about Vanilla Gift Cards based on numerous customer reviews. It pains me to inform you that many customers have faced significant challenges with these cards. From activation issues to unresponsive customer service, the experiences have been disheartening. One customer shared how their $50 card was unusable due to an unknown issue, leading to frustration and wasted time. Another individual received a damaged card with missing numbers, resulting in a lengthy resolution process. The common thread among these reviews is the lack of support and the feeling of being left stranded with a malfunctioning product. As someone who values transparency and reliability, I urge you to exercise caution when considering Vanilla Gift Cards. Your hard-earned money deserves better treatment. Stay vigilant and prioritize trustworthy gifting options. Warm regards, a Concerned Consumer

Vanilla Gift Cards No issues on 4-cards

Over the past couple years I have bought probably four vanilla loadable gift Visa cards and loaded them with no more than $100 to $140 on each and have had no issues. I bought my wife, a bicycle, one year and a piece of jewelry another time with no issues and myself a couple things. Maybe I am the lucky one after reading all the other reviews. I thought the Vanilla card was the safe one actually Or maybe it's the tape that I bought, maybe? And still have a couple left with a dollar or two left on them. I Just bought a Green Dot card a few days ago, and I think from reading all the other reviews (500 of them) on that brand sounds like I made a mistake as I'm trying to get my money back out now. Isn't there any type of disposable card that is safe out there for making purchases on websites or with businesses that are possibly not trustworthy. ?.MR

Vanilla Gift Cards Wasted money

I received a Vanilla gift card as a gift (I'm a teacher) from a student. I activated and checked the balance and all seemed fine. I went to use it for a Kohls.com purchase (making sure my order was less than the balance). It denied it. Went back to the website to see the card was now blocked and I'd have to call customer service to unblock it. I called. I could barely understand the customer service rep - it was a hard call, but she assured me that I would get a new card in the mail and the old card couldn't be used. Ok - there were no other options. I did get a new card in the mail - for ZERO dollars. Zero. That's 0.00 printed right on the card itself. wtf.

Recommendation: Do NOT buy. Scam.

Vanilla Gift Cards Do not buy vanilla gift cards!

My daughter bought my son a $50 gift card for Christmas. She bought it in a CVS in upstate NY. She mailed it to us in Miami, FL. The card was drained (money was stolen from the card) days before we even received it! Some piece of crap scammers stole the gift card balance! I filed the claim and it has been 10 days...Do Not Buy Vanilla GIFT CARDS! Use Zelle, CashApp or Venmo to send money to friends and family. They charge a high fee and then let people steal the funds. Absolutely DISGUSTING! Again - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Recommendation: DO NOT BUY VANILLA GIFT CARDS!

Vanilla Gift Cards Terrific scam sold by some standout retailers

Bought five of these for Christmas stocking stuffers. Got worried immediately when my daughter told me she had read some terrible reviews about how difficult they are to fully use. I scoffed and told her Visa, Sam's Club, Walmart, etc. would deal with a ripoff company. It took one day after Christmas to prove I was wrong. My wife attempted to use a $100 card to buy an $84.00 + tax item at Hobby Lobby. No go. The cashier tried numerous ways to run it. All were declined. She gave up. The next day she tried the same card at Sam's Club against an item over $100. She told the clerk to run $100 first against the Vanilla card and then the remainder of the cost against our normal Sam's card. No go. Then she tried to run $90 against the Vanilla card. No go. Then she tried $90 one more time but didn't put in the PIN when it asked for it. It finally took the transaction. She finally got $9.99 of the last $10 on the card in the same way. She told Sam's that the Vanilla card was bought there and she wouldn't leave until they ran it successfully. It's also almost impossible to talk to anyone at Vanilla about the extreme difficulty in using the entire balance on these cards. I would bet that the average usage on these cards is far less than the face value of the cards. it's really a pretty sharp and probably legal scam. I just can't believe all these name brand retailers do business with a product provider that provides a product that receives consumer reviews that are this bad. I'm writing Walmart and Sam's Club a comlaint letter.

Recommendation: Buy these Vanilla Visa gift cards at your own peril!

Vanilla Gift Cards terrible customer service

I received a $50 gift card for my birthday. Unfortunately, the magnetic strip was damaged at the store. When I got home, I called Vanilla to get a replacement. I was told that I needed to send copies of the receipt, my driver's license, front and back of both the card and the packaging.

I explained that I could not provide the receipt as the card was a gift. The agent told me to send the other items and provided a case number. This was in July. All information, except the receipt, were provided.

Earlier this week, I contacted Vanilla for the status of my replacement card. I was told via e-mail that I needed the receipt. I contacted the person who gave me the card to see, if by some miracle, she still had the receipt. She does not.

Called Vanilla to advise that I could not provide the receipt as the purchaser no longer had the receipt, did not remember when she purchased it, where she purchased it, or any of the other myriad of stupid questions the customer service rep asked. I don't see why I need to provide the receipt when I was able to provide all of the other information requested. Do you ask for a receipt for a gift from someone?

Anyway, the result was that I will not receive a replacement card, and Vanilla gets to keep the $50! This is not fair.

Recommendation: Do NOT use Vanilla gift cards

Vanilla Gift Cards Vanilla gift card review: Scammed out of $252.50 with no resolution from poor customer service. Will never use again

I had the chance to try out the Vanilla gift card from vanillagift.com in January and unfortunately, my experience with it was not great. After a short while, I discovered that the card had been hacked, and all the funds on it were gone. I promptly contacted customer service, and I was told that the card would be replaced, and the money should be back on it by February 18th, 2023.

I checked the card on the designated day, but there was no money on it. I called customer service again, but nothing was resolved. The same thing happened on March 14th, 2023 - no card, no money, and extremely poor customer service. The representatives I spoke to seemed to give me different stories every time, and when I tried logging in to my account on their website, there were issues as well.

I was told to get in touch with Walgreen's since that's where I purchased the card, but even they could not help me. It amounted to a total loss of $252.50, and I felt like I had been scammed. It was a terrible experience, and I can confidently say that I will never be using Vanilla gift again.

The hold time on calls was long, and whenever I got through to a representative, they would hang up on me mid-conversation or keep me on hold indefinitely. It was highly unprofessional and frustrating. Despite having the names of the representatives, their ID #, and the times of my calls, there was zero progress made in resolving the issue.

I would not recommend this company to anyone, ever. I plan on reporting the matter to the BBB (Better Business Bureau) and even consulting with an attorney to see if I can be recompensed. It's ridiculous that I paid to get a gift card and ended up being scammed out of my money, and they won't even fix it. For a supposedly professional company, Vanilla gift is definitely not one that lives up to its name. I even got an email from a manager promising that I would get my card and money back by February 18th, but it turned out to be a lie - and I've gotten no response since then.

Vanilla Gift Cards Vanilla Gift Review: Fraudulent Printing and Poor Customer Service

So, I know this website called Vanilla Gift (vanillagift.com) and let me tell you, my mom got me a $200 gift card for my birthday, but this company can't seem to print the whole thing right! Like, they left off 4 of the 16 digits on the front AND the 3-digit CVC code on the back. It's ridiculous!

Trying to get in touch with someone was a nightmare. After like 2 hours, I finally talked to some lady named "Zuri" who wouldn't even give me her last name! And then she had the nerve to say I had to EMAIL them the original receipt (like, who even keeps that? I only had the receipt from Walgreen's that showed the amount, date, and time).

They're supposed to investigate for like 7 business days (whatever that means) and then replace it in another 14 business days. So I have to wait a full MONTH before I can even use this stupid gift card? Um, no thanks.

I told Walgreen's about the whole thing and they suggested I report it to the police. And get this, they checked the other Vanilla Gift cards they had in stock and found out that HALF of them were messed up too! That's like, consumer fraud or something!

I'm not gonna let this go. I'm gonna contact Walgreen's corporate and make them pull all the Vanilla Gift cards from their stores across the country. And I'm gonna let every other store that sells these cards know what a scam they are. No one should have to deal with this kind of nonsense.

Vanilla Gift Cards Vanilla Gift Card Review: Scam Alert or Just Poor Quality?

I honestly can't even deal with this Vanilla Gift thing anymore. I don't know what kind of scam they're running but I'm pretty sure they're making bank off of it. I bought a bunch of these cards for my employees who are all scattered across the country and a couple other places outside of the US. The people in the other countries couldn't use their cards so I was like, no problemo, I'll just send them some money through Paypal and then they can send me their card info and I'll use their cards in the US. Easy peasy, right? WRONG.

First of all, when I checked the cards online, some of them still had the full amount of money I put on them even though it had been like...a year since I bought them. But then like a few days later when I tried to use them, they wouldn't work. And when I checked the account online again, there were all these charges on there from like six months ago that weren't there before. And the craziest part is that the charges were all at places like 7-11 and Denny's in Las Vegas. How the heck did that happen when these cards were being used by people outside of the US? It's like they're using the same cards over and over again.

I've been trying to dispute these charges for what feels like a million years but it's like talking to a brick wall. It's so frustrating and honestly, I'd rather dump hot acid in my eye than deal with this company again.

Vanilla Gift Cards Disappointing Experience with Vanilla Gift: Wasted $200+ on Empty Gift Card

I gotta say, I had an experience with Vanilla Gift that definitely left me feeling disappointed. Back in May 2018, I decided to buy one of their gift cards as a present for someone special. But somehow, the card ended up lost in my cluttered drawer - I totally forgot about it! Fast forward to now, and I realized I still had the card stashed away. Lucky I remembered before sending it off to someone, because when I tried to use it I discovered that the darn thing was EMPTY! That's right, I had paid over $200 plus a $6.95 activation fee for this thing, and now it was totally worthless.

So, I called up the company to see what was going on. Turns out, in order to reactivate the card you need the receipt...which I didn't have. Even though I could clearly show them a transaction on my credit card statement proving that I had paid for it, they wouldn't budge. To make matters worse, when I went to Staples to try and get a copy of the receipt, they couldn't find it either! I felt like I was hitting a brick wall at every turn.

In the end, I decided to send a photo of the empty card to Vanilla Gift and see if they would be willing to reactivate it that way. But nope, they refused! Apparently they needed to see the receipt in order to activate it. I mean, come on! Is it really necessary to be that strict about it? Especially when Staples themselves said that activation is an automatic process during scanning. It just felt like Vanilla Gift was taking advantage of the situation - and I definitely don't think they deserve even 1 star for this kind of customer service. But since I had to click on a rating to submit my feedback, I guess I'll give them 1 star even though in my opinion it's actually a rating of 0.

Vanilla Gift Cards Buyer Beware: Deceptive Tactics and Poor Customer Service with Vanilla Gift Cards

Vanilla gift cards have been my go-to gift option for years, but unfortunately, I have had a few bad experiences with them. In some cases, I have received cards where the bar code is split between the card and the packaging. This makes it impossible to scan the card and render it useless. Sadly, when I tried to contact the company about this, I ran into numerous roadblocks. For starters, the customer service number on the back of the card rarely seemed to work. When I did manage to get through, I often encountered difficulties trying to communicate with the representative due to language barriers. To add insult to injury, I was required to provide a great deal of personal information in order to request a refund, which was not even guaranteed.

Based on my experiences, it seems as though Vanilla gift cards may use these intentionally deceptive tactics to hold onto customers' money. It's important to avoid buying these cards at all costs to prevent falling victim to these scams. I believe this company should be reported to regulatory authorities such as the FCC, and I'm glad that I'm not alone in having had these issues. I've also noticed that it's difficult to keep track of the balance on these gift cards. Often, money that was available on the card before suddenly disappears and there's no explanation as to why. To help illustrate my point, there's a photo that shows how the bar code is split between the card and the holder, making it impossible to use the card.

In all, Vanilla gift cards are not worth the hassle. While they may seem like a convenient option for gift-giving, the amount of time and effort that goes into trying to resolve issues with these cards is simply not worth it. I would not recommend them to anyone and encourage others to steer clear of them as well.

Vanilla Gift Cards My Experience with Vanilla Gift Cards - A Warning to Others

So, I thought I'd jump on the Vanilla gift card bandwagon and opted for a $500 card. I was excited to use it the next day - maybe a little too excited. I swiped it gleefully for a mere $35 purchase. But, alas, it was my undoing. The very next day, I attempted to pay a bill and, to my utter shock, there was a ginormous $400 pending charge on the card that was not authorized by me. What the heck?!?

I suck it up and made the dreaded call to Vanilla gift customer service. I explained the situation and told them loud and clear that this charge was a fraud. I begged and pleaded them NOT to let the payment go through. But, they said I'd have to wait for 2 days for the charge to drop off their system. Great, just great.

But, alas, the charge did not drop off. It remained there, unaffected by my pleas and cries for logic. Not only that, even after being informed of such a fraudulent charge, they decided to let it go through. Can you believe that? Now, I've lost $400 of my precious dollars, and I'm left wondering what to do next.

Vanilla gift's "solution" for this mess? They'll do a "fraud investigation" and might give me back the money after 90 days. Uh, excuse me? That's completely unacceptable, and definitely not even a good business model.

$400 may not seem like much, but for me and my family, it means a heck of a lot. It's the difference between having food on the table or not. And, I really believe that this company is purposely set up to take your money before you even use it. It's just not right.

I'm not taking this sitting down. I've already reported them to the Better Business Bureau, the Department of Justice, and the Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs. I encourage others who have similar experiences to do the same - it's the only way to get any satisfaction.

So, stay away from these Vanilla gift cards, folks. These crooks ain't worth your money, and their "fraud investigation" is a joke. Just stay safe and use your hard-earned cash wisely.

Vanilla Gift Cards Vanilla Visa Gift Card: A Scam That Will Leave You Empty-Handed

I gotta say, I made the mistake of buying a Vanilla Visa Gift Card off Target.com as an e-gift card in Dec. of 2022. I figured since I had no problems with smaller amounts in the past, everything would go smoothly. Boy, was I wrong. I got a larger amount to help out a young single mother during Christmas who needed help with her son's gifts while she was fighting cancer. But when I called Vanilla Visa Gift Card services at ***754, ***1376, & ***4873, I was met with Red Flags galore. Each person I spoke to was clearly not from the US and had screaming kids in the background while answering from home. Talk about distracting!

Since the 23rd of December 2022 until May 5th, 2023, I've spoken to reps who only do one thing: assure me that they'll file an escalation claim and then call me back in 24-48 hours. And yet, they never get me to a US-based representative and I never get a resolution other than them saying my case has been closed and that my replacement card has been activated. Not one of them will admit that the entire Vanilla Visa brand is a scam and that their reps belong in the pits of Hell for supporting such fraudulent practices. God will not show mercy on this company, and I've joined the Class Action Lawsuit myself to help put these con artists out of business. I cannot stress this enough: do NOT buy or support this company in any way. Don't let your hard-earned money go towards paying salaries for employees who only exist to keep Vanilla from providing fair wages for their workers. If you must buy a gift card, get it from your bank instead or directly from Visa itself. And if it has the word Vanilla on it, I suggest trying Chocolate or Strawberry instead. Trust me on this, it's been 5 months and I still haven't received any resolution from Target or Vanilla.

Vanilla Gift Cards Vanilla Gift Card Review: A Customer Service Black Hole and a Stolen Card

I just gotta tell ya, I got a Vanilla gift card from my fam for two hunnid bux and man oh man, was I pumped to spend it! But when I tried to use it, it got declined like nobody's business. So I checked my balance on their site and what do ya know, it was empty! Zero! Zip! Zilch!

Can ya believe that some joker in another state straight up took all the moolah off my card? And get this, even though the card had a big ole VISA logo on it, apparently VISA ain't even got nothin' to do with Vanilla gift. Talk about confusing, amirite?

So I call up their 800 number and holy cow was I on hold for what felt like an eternity - 25 minutes to be exact! When I finally got through to a customer service rep, he tells me he can't help me 'cause I got a fancy schmancy digital card that was emailed to me, so he transferred me to a whole different department. And wouldn't ya know it, I'm on hold for another 25 minutes!

Eventually, I get connected with another CSR who creates a case for me and says some fancy managers are gonna review it. I gotta wait for snail mail to find out if I'm getting reimbursed or not. It took forever, but I finally got a replacement card in the mail. But here's the kicker, I gotta activate it by callin' another 800 number!

Guess what, dudes? I was on hold again, this time for 20 minutes! When I finally got through, the CSR took another 10 minutes to activate the card. He says I can use it in 24 hours, but I got no record or paperwork sayin' that it's even activated! This whole system is janky, I tell ya, I don't even know if it's gonna work when I try to use it. I got a bad feeling that I'm gonna end up stuck in their Customer Service Black Hole again.

Honestly, Vanilla gift is the worst. They let someone steal my card number - and I'm pretty sure it was an inside job. I spent a total of 80 minutes on the phone with these goons and I wanna get reimbursed for my time! If I were you, I'd skip Vanilla gift like the plague. There are way better ways to give folks some dough.

Vanilla Gift Cards When I got back home the card was declined and I could not use it

I went to Walgreens to buy a 250.00 gift card. When I got back home the card was declined and I could not use it. I called Vanilla Gift card customer service and it was the most frustrating cs experience I have ever had. They gave me and email address to send copies of the front and back of my card, receipts, etc. My case number was [protected]. I got an email back in a couple days saying the my case was solved and I am free to use my card. I went to use it again and was declined. I then called customer service and he told me that my account was closed and there is nothing I can do about it. I was not going to take that answer and just lose 250.00. I went online to check my balance and it read 50.00. I am beyond frustrated and will file a complaint with BBB, Atty General of GA and OH, and also Walgreens.

Claimed loss: I lost $200.00 or 250 depending on whether I can use the 50

Desired outcome: Just get me the 250 balance I originally paid for.

Vanilla Gift Cards Vanilla Gift card

On 17 March this year I bought a Vanilla gift card with a calue of $200. When I opened it the last 4 digits of the card number and the 3 digit security on the back of the card were missing, so I was unable to use it. I called the number on the back of the card, but it always asks for the 16 digit card number, which I obviously don‘t have because of the missing digits.

Claimed loss: $205.95

Desired outcome: Please refund

Vanilla Gift Cards Vanillagift.com

Tried to use a gift card and was told the balance was 0 from a 100.00 gift card I never used the card . They make it impossible to talk to a live person for obvious reasons. Supposedly there was a debit on record but it was not me and no information of the transaction . Tried to use the card and it was denied at first use. These guys are a total scam. If there is an issue they run you around in voice mail and never make contact. This way they keep the money when it becomes a situation that the time is not worth it..

Claimed loss: $100.00

Desired outcome: Refund

Vanilla Gift Cards DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME THEY STOLE MY MONEY

I am deeply frustration and outraged regarding the recent incident involving my Vanilla Visa gift card. On [date], I purchased a Vanilla Visa gift card and, to my dismay, I have been unable to access the funds loaded onto the card. It has become apparent to me that my hard-earned money has been wrongfully taken, and I strongly believe that your company is responsible for this unauthorized access to my funds.

My attempts to contact your customer support have been incredibly disheartening. After enduring long wait times of over an hour, I finally reached a representative only to be met with shifting blame onto the merchant and no viable solution to retrieve my money. This experience has left me feeling deceived, frustrated, and deeply disappointed in the level of service provided by Vanilla Visa.

As a consumer, I trusted that my funds would be secure and easily accessible with the Vanilla Visa gift card. However, this incident has shattered my confidence in your company and its ethics. It is alarming to think that this may be a recurring issue affecting other customers who have put their trust in your brand.

I demand an immediate resolution to this matter. I insist on the full refund of the funds loaded onto the Vanilla Visa gift card, including the cost of the card itself. Additionally, I expect compensation for the time, inconvenience, and emotional distress caused by this ordeal.

Please be advised that if this matter is not resolved satisfactorily and promptly, I will have no choice but to escalate my complaint. I am prepared to share my experience on various social media platforms, review sites, and consumer advocacy forums, warning others about the unethical practices of Vanilla Visa and Visa.

I implore you to take this complaint seriously and rectify the situation without further delay. I trust that you will uphold your responsibility to your customers and demonstrate your commitment to consumer satisfaction.
I expect to receive a written response detailing the steps being taken to address this issue and resolve my complaint within [reasonable timeframe, e.g., 10 business days] of receiving this letter. You may contact me at the provided email address or phone number to discuss this matter further.
Your immediate attention to this matter.

Vanilla Gift Cards Scam! Fraud! Beware!

I purchased 8 gift cards. 3 of them for $50,1 for $70 and 4 for $500. I have had nothing but problems since I purchased them. I gave the smaller ones to my employees for a small appreciation and kept the other 4 larger ones to pay bills in the office. The guys kept telling me that they were having problems using their cards. I then went online to see the balance, and all was fine. They all showed a balance. 3 of the guys took there's back and said they would just use them online the other guy with the $70 gave me his to keep and maybe get a replacement. So, on one of the $500 card I paid the cell bill of $174.74 and one another $500 card I paid the commercial auto and another small bill. That pretty much ate all of that amount up. So, on the card that I paid the cell bill with I should've had $325.26 left. I went to go use it and it was denied. I then went on the website to check the balance and it said the card was no good. So, I called. I was on hold for about 15mins before I got to talk to someone. She told me that the card had been reported stolen, so they issue a new card. I asked to who? How is it stolen when I have the physical card, the receipt and the credit card they were purchased with. She said because of privacy issue she can't tell me anything and that I could make a report and have a new card issued in 45-90 days. I told her that makes no sense since I purchased these cards on October 13th and they had already issued a new card to someone else, but they clearly didn't have to wait 45-90 days. I asked to speak to a manager. They put me on hold for almost an hour. The "manager" finally got on the phone, I told her how long I was waiting, and she said they were busy, at first before reading these comments I told her how busy you can actually be. So, I proceeded to explain once again what happened and she said she would send the paperwork for me to fill out to get a new card issued. So, she asked the name to mail it to, I told her my company name she said no your name, I explained they were purchased for a company, on a company credit card so to mail them to the company, well she hung up on me and now I can't get through. I then went to check the balance on the other 2 $500 cards, and nothing is left on them. Someone used them at Target at 2 in the morning. I am out $1,339 total for this and can get no answer from anyone. I will never use this card again; I will tell everyone how fraudulent this company is and am going to file some kind of complaint with the BBB and am going to talk to my lawyer about filling a claim.

Vanilla Gift Cards Vanilla visa gift card

The Vanilla VISA Gift card was lost, reported as lost, was emailed documentation of purchase, proof of address, a journal from the store purchased ( which was a Ft. Knox Military Installation store ) originally reported on January 7th, 2024. After claiming loss and emailed a verification of a replacement card being mailed, the card was found, cut up and discarded.

They repeatedly requested several proofs of purchase and were emailed proofs of purchase several times. This seems to a scam with no intention of replacing a lost card taht has never been used. It was a 100.00 gift card and 5.95 fee was charged at the time of purchase. They have dragged their feet too long and it appears to have been a malware money making scheme before refunding the gift card to the customer. It may have targeted military soldiers at Ft. Knox.

Claimed loss: 105.95

Desired outcome: Replacement card and compensation to FT. Knox KY. for malicious usage of a product purchased at a military installation.

Vanilla Gift Cards Vanilla gift card

I attempted to verify a card received as a gift at the website suggested by Visa Vanilla. Several attempts have been made since I received the card, every time I try it I enter the requested card information and go through the "security" games to be told there was a system error and to try again later. A $25 gift from my son, a marine, is a big deal, they don't get paid nearly enough! I then tried to call the [protected] where I found out that it was used on 12/18/23 and had a zero balance. I had NOT opened the card until January 2024 and had been attempting to verify it on the website before using it. The robo-system couldn't give me any details on WHERE it was used and I can't find a HUMAN to speak with. HELP! Do I have any chance of speaking with someone?

Claimed loss: $25.00 and my faith in gift cards. I worked as a seasonal cashier over the holidays and saw so much grieve caused by gift cards will now send gifts via Amazon and suggest to everyone I know to do the same.

Desired outcome: I would like to have the $25.00 gift that my son intended me to have.

Vanilla Gift Cards Vanilla Gift card

We received a Vanilla Gift card with $100 as a wedding gift in Sept 2023. We traveled to Ohio for thanksgiving. Tried to use the card at a gas station opened the packaging in front of the clerk. Card would not work noticed scratch marks over the numbers. Card was declined for gas. Called Vanilla Card was on the phone over an hour they seem very helpful. They even noted that the card was for $100. They sent me a replacement card arrived in early December 2023. Wife attempt to use the card on Feb 2024 and it was declined. Check the balance and the card balance was $0 and said the entire $100 was spent at a Target and later declined at a CVS in Sept 2023. My argument with vanilla card is if we didn't have money on the card why would you send a replacement?
