We ordered this eager to try it and found our phone company had placed a block against Magic Jack and other devices like it to keep our business with them. We live in a desolate area and do not have many choices for our phone service so were forced to return it which was not an easy project. The company does not make you aware this may happen and we had to keep both with launched an intensive battle with the phone company over our DSL and all. Wasn't worth the grief. We are still waiting for our refund. Beware!

unauthorized order of MagicJack. I was told the order was cancelled, then I received the product. I refused it and put it in a mailbox. They took $133.75 from my checking account.
I have been trying to speak with someone, but have not been successful. The company has a "chat" window and they are no help at all. If you try to get information, they will not give it or disconnect the chat.
This has been going on for 22 days I want this issue resolved.
I got ripped off as well. Talked to the agents, they just disconnet. Anyone know of a way to reach someone in that unethical company called magicjack?

One of the biggest scams/ripoffs I have encountered. They have my item that I returned, was told a refund had been issued, BUT WAS NOT! Now, their website is NON functional as far as contacting customer Service.
After three horrid days of phone rage and Internet quagmire I finally decided to report these yahoos.
I called the BBB and found out the company has an F rating and well over 800 other complaint that are not resolved.

Magic Jack won't release my own phone number to other carrier. They also blocked my on-line access to their website after I requested my phone to be ported out. Seems like I would lose my own phone number after being with Magic Jack for more than 5 years.

faulty service
The MagicJack does not work as advertised. I have had the device for several weeks and spent numerous hours on the chat line (no direct phone assistance) to resolve the problem. The connection is interrupted every 3 minutes with a pause to the service. The interruption is about 2 seconds long and disrupts the conversation. If quality service is important to you do not purchase this device.
If you want a cheap communication tool and you do not care about the quality, this device is for you.

Sorry for people having problems but i have magic jack for over three years and i never had any issue like the one reported and if there is something the chat system works great but when you want to chat live it opens a question case ;in that you write like abc and send then they will know that you did not had the proper answer and then the real chat will start.
for calls it works geat but like they states you need to have hight speed internet minimum 2 mbps below that it works like a CB.

I've had the magicjack for over a year. The quality is poor. I have to constantly repeat myself to be heard. It's impossible to speak to a "live" person if you have any problems. When you make calls the person receiving the call will say that your voice sounds garbled or like you're talking thru a tunnel! I put it with this poor quality only because it's like having free service and I rarely need a "home phone". If my financial situation was better, the magicjack would be thrown in the street and run over by me :) Also the line has constant interference and is seldom clear and you can hear your voice echoing back in your ear. Good luck with this one. DEFINITELY NEEDS TO BE IMPROVED..

I impulsively ordered a magicjack after seeing it advertised online via cnet, pcmagazine and cbs news but then I saw an article about a lawsuit against the company and then info about it sending ads to your pc so I realized I did not want it. The confirmation email I got for my order said I could reply to make changes so I hit reply and tried to cancel the order but the email failed so I did some more research and found an email address for Rikard.[protected]@ymaxcorp.com and emailed him trying to cancel the order. After further research I realized there is no true customer support for this service or help. I am convinced this is a scam.

i have had magicjack since december and it never worked properly always had calls ended or very chopping you can only hear every other word someone says. i thought it was the wiring so i had phone company come 0ut and change all the wiring inside and out and they sold me a upgraded modem and still it doesnt work. cant even get a call out. chatted online with tech and still not resolved. Now magicjack wants 48.00 to try and resolve problem.
I have my magicjack since last October and everything was O.K. with my overseas calls. Last week when I was about to call Calif. I received a message on my screen instructing me not to place the call, wait 60 sec. for an upgrade and then proceed. After waiting for about 7 min. with no results I closed the window and just then received a message that the upgrading was completed. When I tried to call Calif. again there was no dialing and no destination number ring sounds. Instead, I saw the time ticking away as magicjack tried to reach the destination number until it gave up and instructed me to call another number. The same happened with other overseas numbers that I tried to place. What do I do now?

I disagree with the negative complaints. I have mine for one year now, and the only issues I've had is if my internet is giving trouble. Also, they do have customer support, it may take a while to get through to them, but that service is available. My usb on my magicjack broke, and it was replaced, and all I had to pay was shipping and handling.

The only way to contact MagicJack is through a live chat in their website. Then you get to speak to non-English speaking Indians, who put you on hold for 15 minutes at a time while they "Research your record" and give you the runaround. I've had it happen three times when trying to get a refund for the MagicJack I returned, and have been told each time that they would email me within 3 days telling me when I would get my return. It's been three months and it's never happened. They lie, lie, lie! The quality of my USB was poor, with scratchy sound. I got a return authorization number and returned it within two weeks. the wait began. That was in May 2008. It's now August, and I have spent three hours on the phone getting the runaround, but no refund. So I turned them in to my state Attorney General's office.
My MJ worked fine at home. I bought one so I could use long distance at work at my desk. It did not work on my Dell desk computer. I spent HOURS on "live chat" with people who either could not understand English or just blew me off, because they would reply with some off the wall instruction. Finally, one tech told me to change all my internet protocols. Well, that totally crashed the computer and destroyed my internet connection. Again, I tried to to get a tech to help. When I told them that my cojmputer was crashed with no internet, they kept telling me to use the "upgrade" link on their website. Again, I wrote, THE COMPUTER IS CRASHED WITH NO INTERNET! How can I upgrade. Now I have to have technicians from our central office to come out to repair my computer, and I'll probably get into trouble for having "unauthorized" equipment. This is TERRIBLE customer service. Vonage gives much better phone service, but their Live Chats are almost as bad (but not quite).

i purchased the magic jack jack and was pleased until i realized a landline calling me in the same area code will be charged long distance unless they have the same prefix as me! example 321-420 and 321-783 if the numbers after the area code don't match the person calling you pays long distance! please there are different prefixes withing the same city from house to house. this is not stated in the FAQ. Magicjack states this regarding incoming calls "If your magicJack phone number is in the same area code as your friends and family they are not charged long distance to call your magicJack phone number. If they are in a different area code, they are subject to the rates their phone company would charge for calling the area code your magicJack is registered with."
I did a live chat with magicjack and their solution was "why don't you just call your mom and she will not be charged" are you kidding me, so now i am supposed to call all the people i know everyday to see if they want to speak with me. I have to agree. I found out as well that I couldn't get a prefix that was local for my customers to call me. Since my plan was to use this as a business phone you can imagine that it didn't work out for me. Hopefully I can get a refund and be on to something else. If not I guess I will return here and add some more information on my experience with them. Wish me luck and buyer beware with the rest of Magic Jack... I wonder how long it will be until I get a letter in the mail regarding a class action law suite related to this problem.
MagicJack can't determain which call is local or long distance. Your local phone carrier determins it. The message in MagicJack website is misleading. But I learnt long ago before I use MagicJack that always check your local carrier before you call someone within the same area code. To make things worse, in some cases it is not charged as long distance, but reginal call, which is more expensive than long distance.
Before I choose my MJ number, I checked with Verizon to make sure the number I choose is local for me. My MJ number is actually in a different area code from my home number, but VZ tells me it is local. And it is.

past four days after independent troubleshhoting and live chat page appears stating magicjack unable to connect to registration server and to try again. this is fifth day of error page. today after clicking on live chat live chat screen is not appearing. in past i just reregistered to fix the problem. however magicjack is not providing a registration page. page states no 911 info available, cannot connect. i have followed all prompts to troubleshoot.
Well day 10 & after taling to 15 techs 23 hrs on line one 4 hr round trip to the city to exchange & get a new magicjack! A upper Tech told me that MJs do not work with altell air card. LO AND BEHOLD MAJICJACK WAS ABLE TO INSTALL ON MY LAPTOP COMPUTER. THE PROBLEM WITH THAT WAS I COULDN'T ALLOW MAJICJACK TO STAY CONNECTED TO THE LAPTOP BECAUSE THE LAPTOP WAS CONSTANTLY MOBILE. I TRIED THE TECH LINE AND COULD NOT GET IT RESOLVED. THEREFORE, I RETURNED THE MAJICJACK WITHIN THE 30 DAY TIME FRAME ALLOTTED. I CONTINUE TO GET EMAILS STATING I HAVE RECEIVED VOICEMAIL MESSAGES AS LONG AS 41 MINUTES. I COULD THIS BE WHEN I NO LONGER HAVE A MAJICJACK AND GUESS WHAT THERE IS NO ONE TO CONTACT. I purchased a MagicJack and plugged it in and it worked fine for about 6 months and then it started messing up. I could not dial out from my phone anymore. Sometimes I could not receive calls. So I started reading all the knowledge stuff on their website. Then after about 3 hours I found out how to chat with a live person, the put me thru about 2 hours worth of testing. then i gave up. Then I tried the same thing about 2 weeks later the same thing happened 2 hours worth of test, and down loads and unplugging and replugging and so on and so forth, again I gave up. Finally tonight I went thru all of that again and so far i am at about 3 hours. They finally told me they would not refund my money or replace the unit. So I will be at my bank on Friday getting my money back cause I purchased using my debit card and I know I will get my money back from the bank and visa. Then I will file complaints at my State Secretary of State, Federal Communication Company, Better Business Bureau, State Utility Public Service Commission and anyone else who will listen. I might not get a new MagicJack but will spread some JACK and it will be MAGIC! I might not make a big splash but I will feel better that someone is getting warned about this crappy company. It should be called CrappyJack!

I purchased a Magicjack in July of 2008 and it never worked properly. I spent countless hours of my valuable time trying to "troubleshoot" the problem. The customer care representatives didn't listen to my problems. They would give me automated responses. Over the period of a month and a half, i spent over twenty hours of my valuable time, attempting to get this thing to work properly. Every time I contacted the Magicjack customer care, I would have to jump through the same hoops, over and over again. They claim to keep no record of previous visits to their customer care chat line.
In the end i gave up. All i wanted was, the device that I paid for, to function as the advertisement claims. Instead what i received was, a frustrating 40 dollar nightmare. If i received ten dollars an hour for a job, the amount of time i spent adds up to more than a normal phone bill. So where is the big savings?
I paid for 5 yrs of dservice and they shut it down for what they called excessive use. They claimed I made 50 calls from my phone, but I didn't. I used the chat and called customer service. TOTALLY RUDE. They even disconnected the live chat. How's that for customer service?
A friend bought this. It never worked right for him. He gave it to me, as I have cable, rather than Hughes Net. No joy. When I pick up the phone and try to dial, it drops the entire connection to my router. I am HIGHLY tech savvy. Over 2 hours of chat "support" before I called it off because they clearly have no idea what they're talking about, and refuse to refund the money paid. My complaint is same as Dirk's. The device does not work immediately as advertised with the computer systems stated (I need it for Windows XP), the techs do not have expertise to service proper installation, tech issues, trouble shooting or the device is representative of fraudulent scam & they all know it does not perform, otherwise they'd keep records. I have 16 work hours lost, and I want my magicJack system up a running properly, otherwise magicJack can pay my phone bills forever. Best avenue of pursuit is to file written complaint w/your State AG's office of consumer protection & send a courtesy copy to the principals @ addresses listed.
My Magic Jack never worked. I couldn't even find out where to return it. The only thing that I was able to do was to get my credit card company to refuse the charges.
I sent mine back with confirmation and got it back with the stamp missing and the postal service saying it was rejected due to no postage. It was sent to a post office box so after reading all the negative complaints about returning, I believe they took the stamp off and then rejected it. I will be filing a complaint with the posst office tomorrow and will follow up with a call to the Florida Attorney General if not satisfied. Majic Jack is a rip off. Same as other complaints. However, it jacked up my internet access altogether. It dragged the log on time significantly and they charged my cc 70.80 not the 39.95 and now my credit card company wants proof. Well isn't that convenient, nothing in writing, and no packing slip in the box. No where to return for refund no response from them at all. This is the biggest rip off ever. no more on line or tv offers for me.

I was told the majic jack cost $46.90, they took out $52.75 from our credit card and when we sent it back they credited us back $43.09 instead of $52.75. We got ripped off $5.85. It was supposed to be a free 100 percent free trial offer. There are no live people to talk to like they advertized either. I am contacting the better business bureau and lodging a complaint!

Igot a charge on my credit card for over $150. with no phone number to ask for information about, thing I ordered on that day was a majic jack from a TV info commercial. They never sent the product and I cannot get anyone by the TV phone number or the internet web page. I am really upset. What can I do?

I bought the Majic jack to replace my phone as their advertising states. Intoxicated with the thought of all the money I would save, I plunked my $39.99 down. What I got was a daily pain. Pick up the phone and there would be no no no dial tone. Hang it up momentarily and you might or might get one and be able to make a call. More often than not the device had to be unplugged momentarily (usb connection in back of the computer making it a real pain to do) and then let it go through the reboot process. While it is rebooting itself the words 'one minute of patience for a lifetime of savings...' well it was stealing time from me minute by minute everyday! Thankfully there wasn't an emergency call to be made.
Bought the Majic Jack about a little over 3 months ago. It worked adequately for the first couple of months. It frequently dropped calls, sound quality was fair. During any conversation that lasted more than a few minutes, you'd be disconnected, but I hear the same complaints about all VOIP services costing more than this device. Just a few days ago, the device quit working all together. The only way to contact the company for assistance is via "chat", to someone in India or Uzbekistan, I'm sure. I wasted over an hour, with four different technicians, repeating the same steps over and over again to no avail. They just didn't seem to understand that the blue light would not stay on and the computer stopped recognizing the device because it malfunctioned. No one would authorize a replacement, which is probably just as well since S&H to send it back and get a replacement is about $7 each way.
Save your money, this device is cheap plastic junk, doesn't work very well and probably won't last very long. Even the manufacturer doesn't use it because there is no way to contact them by phone, only by chat room. That should have been a red flag right there. Majic Jack is a rip off.
On thier website, majic jack puts in writing the assurance that the ability to transfer an existing phone number will happen sometime in 2009. Based on that promise, I purchased the product, I even was able to make personal contact for one on one support when the product was purches in late 2008. It is now 2010. No ability to trnasfer an existing phone number, the promise was not kept, and the only means of contact is by live chat. When I pressed the issue, the chat was terminated. All the operator would write was "we are working on it". When I asked for a contact phone number, the chat was terminated.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. They provide no means for resolution of product conflicts. THIS IS BAD BUSINESS.
yes hello I purchased magic jack for my home phone and was unaware that the program Zorin instead of windows [ pro ; would not allow me to use magic jack on it . Last year i was told by MajicJack that if I bought a majicJack Plus, they could easlily switch my dads phone num ber from his existing provided to MajicJack with a delay on not more than a couple of hours. So I bought one, went through the installation process, which ask you to register the device. Then I had to go online with one of their customer service people to get the number switched. So after about a two hour online chat with this person that didn't know what the hell he was talking about i asked for a manager. After speaking to the manager for about twenty minutes. i was told that it could take 7 - 10 days to get the number switched and they could not say how much of those days his phone would be down entirely. So my father got pissed of and told me to remove it and he would stick with Comcast.
So the devise sat for over a year unused. So now i decide to at the very least, get my $70.00 worth of one years free service that i never received.
SAo one again, I plug it into my computer at home, go though about a 90 minute download, then go online with one of the (VERY WEE TRAINED CUSTOMER SERVICE) reps from who knows what country and explain everything to her and after 2 more hours of frustration and anger i get shuffled to a MANAGER. This manager took ab out 25 minutes just to review my previous chat. Maybe she did not read english, i dont know. But in the end she finally got what i was talking about. Then she informed me that the first year service ended in Sept 2-13 and I would have to renew to use it. I toldf her it had never been used and i wanted nmy first year of free service. Then the B^%E$^$ ignore my next two line in the chat and typed
you must not be there any longer so i am going to have to end the chat and she basically pushed a button and i was dead in the water.
MajicJack is a greedy money sucking hole. They stared out a good company providing good savings and decent customers service but all of that is gone. They use foreign customer service people paying them pennys, suck more and more money out of their customers and then hang up on you when you asking for a fix so that you can use what you paid for.
I've been calling MJ since last July (2010) because after renewing my subscription for 5 years, every time I tried to call on it, I got nothing but a busy signal of just 3 beeps...then nothing! When I contacted them online time & again, I was told to be patient but by March of this year (2011) my patience ran out! They did finally tell me to send it back & they would refund just $20 BUT I PAID THEM $50! Our phone companies in Nebraska found a way to block M J...at least that's what I think! I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS COMPANY IS ALLOWED TO CONTINUE SELLING THEIR MAGIC JACKS! THEY SHOULD BE IN JAIL FOR FRAUD!
consistent disconnect, poor audio
We purchased a five year service with magicjack on the internet for $100.00, and thought it was a great deal. We did not look into complaints, our fault. MagicJack did not wait 30 days before accessing our credit card and retrieving the $100.00. Soon after we had the device, we noticed we lost our connection every time our daughter was on XBox 360 live, or we would hear echoes on the line. Not good. Of course we would go to the "Live chat" and try to resolve these issues, only to discover the "Live chat" would keep repeating the same questions over and over and having us "Up date" and unplug and plug in the device over and over... Today was the last straw! Now I simply want to warn people NOT to purchase this product, and call Shenanigans!

I solved my MagicJack crummy audio problem by upgrading my Internet connection speed, although for the extra $20/mo to go from 1 MBS to 8 MBS I could get the cheapest land line service available from AT&T, which works even if my PC or internet connection fail
What did you expect for $20/yr? The same service you get from AT&T for $40/month? What a surprise huh?
I woulnd't blame MJ for that, you should try with QoS configuration with your router MJ uses ports 5060 and 5070, you know your XBox is probably eating a lot of the bandwith, with QoS you can reserve some of that exclusively for the MJ, set the priority for MJ to medium or high. And yeah they have a terrible customer support but you can go to the unnoficial forum here http://www.magicjacksupport.com/ you can find answers for many problems there and if you don't find your answer you can always ask.

30 day free trial???
We also ran into the 30 day free trial question and were told it started the day of the purchase... Well, we ordered the night of the 24 but it was after midnight so it was really the 25 and we were to be billed on the 24 of august 2008 according to there confirmation email… I then chatted with a person god knows where and was told it was company policy...

I ordered 2 majic jacks, but changed my mind and send it back because I haerd from a friend, he heard that is a scam. False advertising! I got my credit card statement today and they charged me the amount of $90.75 I can;t get back to them. The phone #on my statement was phony. Do not use it
Magikjack works only for a few days. After I got "error broken storage" message and both my MJ phone and my voice mail stopped working. Customer - no service is almost impossible to reach. You just keep chasing the icon "talk to live person" and it takes you to an other pop up window. What's worse my voice mail stopped working and nobody can answer to the ad I have paid for. If you need a toy buy it but do not use as contact for business. If you ever have heard of Sun Rocket MJ is worse than that. Only cheaper.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
There customer service is TERRIBLE and magic jack works infrequently godd to use and then have forwarded to your cell phone

hello i had my windows reinstalled now my mj is not working i have gone through all these solutions now can i safely format my magic, can i copy the file mjusbsp from my laptop and install in the desktop or should i delete all files mjusbsp/folder and format then use upgrade.is it safe to format mj which works in my laptop/vista please help me i need it to work on my desk top

This thing is a piece of junk. I bought 2 and it worked for 3 days now the computer does not work that it was hooked up to about 9 months ago. I'm sorry i bought this and also had my friends buy one. I want to cancel the charge for next year asap but I know you never get any answers or information. Please DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY on this product.
Won't refund for unusable product
I am posting this on as many sites as possible in the hope they will be effective in getting this company’s attention. If Magic Jack straightens up its act, I have kept track of where I posted and I will rescind my current post. For now, here goes: Do NOT buy the Magic Jack (MJ). I bought a product because of a TV ad (something I rarely do) because the product was supposedly backed by some high-profile companies and TV stations one would normally trust, somewhat. I also thought I could help my budget and save nearly $1, 000 a year by getting away from AT&T phone service. By the way, I now currently have Vonage, which costs half what I was paying for AT&T service with a few basic frills.
Right after I called and ordered those darned things, I went to the MJ website because I had an attack of hindsight (and panic). The website surely didn't tell me much. So I hooked the thing up and just as the ad said, establishing service and getting a new phone number was very fast – within five minutes, I was talking to my best friend who saw my new number on her caller ID. However, also within minutes, my phone started to make loud, weird noises, off and on. I also experienced about 10-second periods of dead air space as I was talking to my friend. I thought she had hung up, but yet not. I also had this sense that I was hearing “other voices” on my phone while I was talking with her. (That’s not something I currently have with Vonage.)
As I began to realize that this product wasn’t going to work well for me, my friend and I also realized that my PC would have to be on, non-stop, if I wanted to use this as a normal phone. Sadly, in my quest for a refund, I was forced to face the possibility that I, the careful, cautious one, had been scammed, even though I'm usually very careful not to get caught in something like this. I must have been having a no-brainer attack.
Anyway, here's a list of things they don't tell you until you get the thing - and some they won't tell you at all.
1. Satellite cable users can't use it. (Everyone I know has satellite. I don’t.)
2. Large blocks of dead air space pop up frequently.
3. Loud squeals occur right in the middle of conversations.
4. My laptop would have to stay on at at ALL times to use this as a normal phone service, as I used Vonage and AT&T.
(My definition of Normal Service: INCOMING: Calls can come in at any time and you will hear the phone ring right away. OUTGOING: You can easily pick up the phone and dial. Magic Jack service means NO service if you turn off the computer. If your computer is off and you want to make a call, you have to boot up the old ball and chain before you can call.)
5. Leaving the laptop on so their service is always running opens your computer up to hackers.
6. THY LIE! See my tirade below.
7. You will never see your money again, even if you send back the product.
They will steal your money right out of your account the day after you order their little product, even though they say they won't - until after 30 days is up. ALL LIES! Your bank won’t refund the money if you’re honest and tell them you gave permission to this company to take the money after 30 days, even though they took it too early.
I was stupid enough to buy two and they sent both in one very small package but charged me for TWO packages - duplicate shipping charges. (I wouldn’t be buying from HP or any other online vendor if they charged a separate shipping charge for every little item, I order! What if I bought five pens, for Pete’s sake?) I tried to chat my way through getting a refund for at least one of the charges, but they blew me off right along with the rest of my issues.
You can never get in touch with a live CSR (Customer Service Rep). When I realized that and finally gave into the stupidity of trying to do something, via a chat (big joke), I spent three or four 1-hour chat sessions trying to get results. In the last session, the chatter told me that accounting would be emailing me within a day or so to get my info so they could refund my money.
Never happened. It's been almost two weeks since I was told that lie. Beside! What info do they need? They TOOK my money. They have the info they need to GIVE IT BACK! I think they just string you along until you get tired of trying and give up. The chat responses to my comments were most often, a useless little, "I see". I say, NO, they don't SEE, and they don't CARE what your issue is, nor will you ever get results.
See, I realized the day I got my product that this thing wasn't going to work for me. (They had already deducted the money from my account before I got the product, by the way.) By the time those CSR’s who were chatting with me got around to considering a refund, they left me sitting for about 10 minutes, then came back and told me my 30 day trial was up. With glee, I'm sure, the CS rep kindly pointed out to me that I couldn’t get a refund because the trial was up, even though I had been trying to get this refund since the first day I received it. (The IRS is also famous for pulling this one when you need to correct an entry on your return – an adjustment that could lower your taxes.)
So, in a nutshell, you will spend endless, pointless hours trying to get your money back, but you will get absolutely nowhere. God help you if you've sent the thing back. You'll NEVER see that money, even if you follow their rules, and you'll also have no product for all that cash.
I say it again - DO NOT BUY THIS. And for those of you who think the rest of us who are dissatisfied are nuts for complaining, you are a minority. Furthermore, there is no way this company will be in business next year with the track record they have been and are creating for themselves.
The Better Business Bureau rates them with an F (as of July, 08) for very bad service and shady practices in all areas. The phone numbers listed on the BBB site for this company don’t connect you with anyone. No one returns the messages left at these numbers.
One very risky thing about this product:
As I mentioned earlier, your computer must be on at all times if you want others to call you on this phone whenever they feel the urge. If you leave your pc on all the time, a live stream of read/writes is flowing from/to your computer. Guess what that subjects the computer to? Hackers, who can also use that highway to rid you of any of your personal information, such as your bank records, tax records - business records, whatever you keep on your computer. Or do anything else they want when you aren't attending that PC so you can have this "great" little phone service.
If you leave your computer plugged in so you can receive calls as usual, you are opening up your computer to anything, by anyone, at any time. Even terrorists can "borrow" your pc's hard drive space to do their work, then jump to another fool's PC that is also logged into this service - and you'll never know it, unless the government finds what they left behind and blames you for it. NOT a good idea for any of us unless we have what amounts to a dumb terminal that is used strictly for that purpose, and no other. If you go this route, no data files whatsoever should be stored on the dummy unit used for this phone. It should not be connected to a network where it can gain access to your other computer(s) with data.
Why am I so concerned about leaving my computer up and running, with this service active at all times? If they can't get their CS right, or they can't get their refund procedure right, how the heck are they going to keep up with security, hacker-safe practices and everything else they need to get right? If they don't care how they treat their customers, what says they'll care about how safe we are?
And here's something fun to do. Check out the owner. He's had his fingers in all kinds of businesses that he's had to step out of, end, or whatever he did with them. In my book, that makes him a Jack of all Trades... Master of NONE. He seems to be no master of his latest venture, either. Too bad he used his little girl to make his product look so innocent. What a scammer he is. Maybe losing $133 isn't much to those of you who think we’re just whiners, through many hardships in my life, I've learned to appreciate the money that comes my way via my hard work. Sadly, I bought this thing to HELP me (and my daughter, who has satellite service) SAVE money - not LOSE it.
Oh! And I forgot one thing. I did make some anti-progress last time I chatted with their little CS people(?). They are willing to do one thing, now, for me. They are willing to discontinue my unused phone service for the year, for both units, but won't take back the product. So, that means I'm stuck with a useless product - with no service.
Magic jack has only one thing that is easy. You can tell when they lie . Thier lips are moving. i got a magic jack plus and it cuts out. For onlyt $9.95 I can get another one that may not work. I guess they think I am the village idiot.Magic Jack can kiss where I cannot. I would tell anyone it is a scam and thier service is worthless.

This product does not work and it does not sound great...whomever says it does is either a liar, works for them or just likes to argue no matter what the subject is...and Jamvano1 its not whining if you pay for something and you don't get it, its holding the business' feet to the fire to get what they advertise.
THis is actually a great product and for $40 a year it is well worth the money ! It sounds great on incoming and outgoing calls
I have learned that public opinion about this product is mainly negative for refunds. If you have a complaint try talking to their magic jack support live customer care on their website. I sent mine back the proper way that they described on their website. I got my refund. I find acting poilte and not whining than getting rude and offensive gets me. Good luck on your refund.

I have had some difficulty with my device and was fortunate to get online support to correct the faults.
However prior to getting this done and in Googling to find contact numbers especially for Technical contact I came across "Technical services-[protected]".
I was doubtful about the info given to me and had to ask if they part of the Magicjack team or where they outsourced.
Needless to say, I followed through www.magicjackcares.com, exhausted all the trouble shooting questions and was eventually able to type/chat with some one who eventually solved my problems.
I was cautioned about Googling for phone contact info that can lead me to fraudulent "technical help" .
Be Aware that all info should be directed through www.magicjack.com and www.magicjackcares.com and not tale info from the internet as there are many scam artiste lurking within.

I had my Magic Jack working for a while, then started having problems of no audio, doesn't work through my phone from time to time, so everyday is a hit or miss. I chat with the Customer Care and that's the ONLY way to contact them, they told me to go through whole bunch of things, and it didn't work. And it was my bad, i actually went through it again and again for like 6 times with 6 different chat sessions. Eventually i asked to get a replacement, so i was transfered on chat to somebody, then they first said they can't find my account, need my credit card number, then they said they found it, and I will be contacted in 24 hours, but then nobody contacted me, so I chatted again... now, to make the story short, Cassey, Bert, Desmond and Grace, total 4 so called "supervisors", had promised i will be contacted and nothing happened, and they ALL said they couldn't find my account and then found it, and they all said it will be resolved in 24 hours... and they ALL said nothing was followed up because they can't find my account info (even though I have a copy of the confirmation email). Eventually i told Grace, if they can't get my account, that means i don't have to pay and renew it (which is coming up soon), because they don't know i have an account, and it's working occasionally. I am not planning to renew, this company really ***, and let's see if they will cut it off when my account is due, then hopefully they will realize... they do have my account!
When I installed Magicjack, my area code was not available. The Indianapolis area code was though. So my friends and neighbors in Southern Indiana now have to make a long distance phone call to speak with me. No problem, the truth is they never call me anyways. Oh, yes, according to their on-line help, their engineers are working on this problem and will be corrected in their future upgrades. I was pretty disappointed because it really did seem to work. My wife called be from her cell phone and the clarity was fairly good. I was speaking to her and could see her through the window. There is a one second delay which is not too bothersome- except when you can see the person you are talking to and their lips start moving before you can hear them on the phone.
magic jack support can't tell me why no one can call my magic jack number from a land line or a cell phone and get through.
Magic Jack live support can't make a phone call to test your phone either.
"we don't have test calls at this time" was their reply.

pretty confused tonight. They thought they could fix this with firmware upgrades to my device etc.
I asked them to just report the problem to IT or hardware but no reply after that.

The Magic Jack is not what is advertised...I've spent numerous hours with there "techs" trying to get their product work properly, to no avail. I've asked to talk to someone via telephone, but they will not provide a number.
When I ordered the 30 day free trial...they charged my debit account imediately and now refuse to give a refund because I've gone beyond the 30 days.
It appears to be a stall tactic, with a series of "fixes " to get beyond the 30 days to avoid a refund.
Therefore, I would like the names of dissatified customers, as I intend to file a class action law suit, with the Attorney General's Office, in hopes of getting every customers money back.

Well let me tell you WHY you should pass, Firstly the magicJack installs itself and is extremely hard to uninstall for the average user, In fact the magicJack company even wishes you "Good Luck" uninstalling on the bottom of the official uninstal page-http://uninstallmagicjack.com/, Isn't that polite of them...
Secondly once you have installed the software and plugged in the jack look out...Here comes the advertisements, Wow I didn't see this in the fine print, It won't stop, Constantly telling you how much you can purchase a *majicJack for...Uhmm Hello...I allready did that, You're paid in full Dan Borislow, Can I have my service without all the hype?...NOPE notta chance of that happening, But wait there's More...it refuses to co-operate when you want it off your monitor, POP UP's bother you? Well this is the most annoying POP UP I've ever endured, But hey I want the great calling service that Mr.Borislow promises so maybe I can tollerate the pop ups...OOPs what was I thinking? I wasn't! If you change your mind about using the Magic Jack, than it is garbage. You can not give or sell this unit to someone because the unit can not be reset, for them to use; you must give all your registered information and password so they can use it under your registered name, and they can not change all this information at all…..This is crazy...Every electronic unit is and must be resettable, why this one is not, because it is a scam and they don't want you to recycle the unit, they want to sell more instead.
This is a scam! I saw the magic jack on tv and completed the order in the understanding they would charge a one time few of 63.00 and 3.00 per month afterwards! This is NOT what happened! I am now negative 205.00 at my bank! The 1st payment that was drafted was 139.30, definitly NOT 63.00 like they said on tv! and then another draft of 93.80! As of this month! MARCH 2010! I just hope this doesnt happen next month! I am a disabled person and can not provide for my self if this continues! I have no idea how I am going to get out of this debt! Dealt with crappy service for a year, go to renew because my number is posted everywhere and come to find out they won't renew! The message says they are only taking money from new suckers - unbelievable so I have a *** message being played for all who try to reach me advertising MagicCrap! I have had Magic Jack for many years and it worked fine until recently. I called MJ technical help and he said for $100 he could extend my contract for 5 years and I would have technical assistance during that time at no additional cost. I clarified that I would not be charged anything to get my MJ up and running. He said no extra charge. I gave him my credit card information. He said a technician would call me. The technician called (a different person) and after needing to get into my computer (which made me nervous) he told me I needed a new MJ Plus and it would cost me $30. I told him no. I was told there would be no additional cost. He then said he would add an additional year. That would extend my contract 6 years. I said I would not buy it from him. A few days later I called MJ and they sold me a replacement for $26.90 and they didn't have any extension on my service. The charge on my card for $100 was from Microtechies LLC. The call I received from the technician was from Level 3 Communications, LLC at [protected]. I called Microtechies LLC at [protected] and said to send a credit to my card. They called me back and said in October before my MJ expired they would extend it for a year and do that every year for a total of 6 years. I said no, credit it back. I did not trust them. Cheryl; Something similar happened to me. Around [protected] I saw an add from Magic Jack that would save me a few dollars if I enrolled for 5 yrs. I called Magic Jack and enrolled for 5 yrs for $154.99. Everything was fine until [protected] when my credit card account was debited $37.50 to Magic Jack. I called to ask why as I was paid up for 5 yrs and was told I was not enrolled for 5 yrs but only I yr. I tried to log into my account at Magic Jack to find someone had changed my User Name and Password. Looking at my credit card bill for Feb 2016 I saw that only $37.73 was sent to Magic Jack (enough to keep my account open for another year thus not suspicious) and $117.26 was sent to the Microtechies LLC [protected]) just like yours. The number for Microtechies([protected]) is not set up for phone calls and I was unable to reach them. You were able to reach MicroTechies, what do they have to do with Magic Jack? And Level3 Communications. What do they have to do with Magic Jack? I called Magic Jack and they told me they have nothing to do with MicroTechies LLC or Level 3 Communications LLC. I think the scam is going down like this; The scammer is a employee of Magic Jack. Who else could have access to accounts, the ability to change passwords, the ability to process credit cards, and the ability to intercept customer phone calls to magic Jack. He gets your credit card info, send enough to magic Jack to keep you account open for a year so you think nothing is wrong, changes your password so you can't access your account, then sends the rest of the money to MicroTechies. Magic Jack will do nothing because they have no record of the money sent to Microtechies just your word that the money that was sent to MicroTechies was meant to be sent to them. How do you prove that? I am going to try the legal auyhorities but don't hold you breath.

I bought mine and now its been more then 5 months it worked so so when it felt like it and on tv it sounds like its better reliable then your house hold phone once i bought it they try to sell you more years for another great deal well i was like not so fast lets see how good this works after hooking it it seem ok for a few weeks then it started it wasnt working
so i had to unplug it and plug it back in as it states you should once a month it was more like 3 times a month the today it just stop and effected my other usb that were plugged in so i couldnt call them but chat they try to resolve this on line and got nowheres they left me saying you 30 days were up and couldnt do anything about it so this item needs more work on it before they put it out on the market ji am not stopping here i will report them to let people know this is not as good as it sounds
I’ve had my MJ for 4 months. When it works, it’s great. From time to time I try to dial and the call does not connect. I just hear dead air. But when it works, which is 95% of the time, it’s a valuable buiness tool. I use it for outgoing calls only, which means my incoming business land-line is always available. It’s the easiest, fastest, cheapest way I’ve found to get an additional line in my office. I have one client with 4 MJs sitting behind a PBX who is laughing all the way to the bank. He uses the MJ for outbound calls only, leaving his incoming lines free for customers. talk about GREAT savings. If the MJ is a little flakey for the day, we just use the land line. At $1.50 per month (inclusive) it’s too good not to be able to overlook the shortcomings
Hahaha, you people who buy this thing are soo silly. First you need to learn more about computers. 2nd, learn about networking, the thing does work, I use it. This product is not for some newbie who can't even figure out networking. If you did know, you would know how it works and you wouldn't be on here complaining. 3RD If your isb blocked outgoing ports/incoming ports, whose fault is it. It's your internet service provider not Madjack.
Your ISP is the one scamming people, blocking ports allowing only people to buy their service only. Madjack can't ask your isp to open ports, or to allow their services, your isp will say no, why because they will be losing money and no one will want their landline...It's like having Cox Cable asking Time Warner to have their services on their network. Hahahhaha. Madjack is a phone service provider, providing services over another service provider. Please people, get a isp that isn't strict and blocking ports. If you can't get one than Madjack isn't for you, and thats just life it's called monopolizing...
