Enterprise Rent-A-Car fraudulent hail damage claim

I became the victim of a fraudulent $1200 hail damage claim when I rented a car from the Enterprise location at College Park, Maryland, January 2012. The vehicle had 35, 000 miles on it, and I added another 160 miles during my 8 day rental. On return, I was shown seven very small dimples on the roof. They were very difficult to see, much less document with a camera, and the kind of thing you could easily miss or ignore as inconsequential. The agent then filed a damage claim, documented only as “significant hail damage to roof and trunk”. I asked him to write a more accurate, detailed description of the damage, but he said he didn’t have to. The fraud started here, with a damage claim that was lacking in any details, thus preparing the groundwork for a falsified repair bill.
I’ve lived in Maryland for 55 years. Although I’m sure there are occasional hailstorms in Maryland, I’ve never known a Maryland resident that has sustained hail damage to their vehicle. A forensic weather analysis, obtained by my insurance company, verified that no hailstorms occurred during the rental period.
My suspicions of a scam were confirmed when I received an invoice that described “81-100 quarter sized dents” in the roof, “16-30 quarter sized dents” in the hood, and additional damage elsewhere, all described as “hail damage”. No evidence of damage wase provided. It was clear to me that the fraudulent repair estimate (from American P.D.R, Springfield, VA) had been fabricated to suit the vaguely written damage claim made by Enterprise. For most folks caught in a situation like this, it’s your word against theirs, and they will win every time.
I was lucky on two counts. I had the presence of mind to go home and return with my camera to take photographs, as well as a 360˚ video of the car, which clearly showed a vehicle in good condition. The damage claim was high enough to get my insurance company involved, and when I contacted their Fraud Division, they became interested and got involved. The Enterprise claim was denied.
Enterprise really has nothing to lose by treating their customers this way, and everything to gain. Despite many attempts to contact Enterprise and DRU, by phone and email, I was simply ignored. Enterprise was very thorough in not responding. It really is stunning to see so many roof damage scams related to Enterprise posted on the web. In addition, you should know that regionally, Enterprise received an “F” rating from the BBB (http://www.bbb.org/washington-dc-eastern-pa/Business-Reviews/auto-renting-and-leasing/enterprise-rent-a-car-all-locations-in-metro-washington-dc-in-rockville-md-31000055/).

Enterprise Rent-A-Car poor service

Very poor customer service, I rented a vehicle due to an accident in our family car. The insurance paid $25.00 per day and that would cover the smaller car. The outlet did not have one in that price range (they said) and charged us for a larger vehicle that exceeded the amount paid by the insurance. I am older and needed our daughter to drive (she is 37) so I called and received a very curt, rude reply from David..How old is she? David asked, and that will be $10 more per day and you have to come in to arrange this (40 mile round trip). When I protested, David just replied “I don’t make the rules” Well David and enterprise I do make my rules and rule # 1 is that I will not rent from your company ever again and will tell others about this as often s I can. By the way the book in the lobby about your great customer service needs to be removed as it is a lie!. Bob Jernigan

Enterprise Rent-A-Car - Billing for damage that is not responsibility

I received yet another bill for $985.03 from the Enterprise Damage Review Unit (DRU) when it should have billed to the person that hit me when I was parked. My rental car was hit in a parking lot in Wheaton, IL on 12/24/11. I tried 3 times to communicate the details to Enterprise including the associated police report with the insurance information of the...

Enterprise Rent-A-Car toll violation and $15 admin fee b/c no one returns phone call

Seems like this is a common complaint and I'm hoping this grabs the attention of an Enterprise representative like some other posts I've seen. Long story short, I was conducting business out of state and I wasn't used to paying tolls and happened to pass (2) $.40 tolls. So, after spending countless time finding out where and how to pay these IL state tolls, I went on the Illinois Toll way website THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT and paid the whopping $.80. I have confirmation emails from the Illinois Toll way and everything. This was back in September by the way. Fast forward to beginning of January...I get this Enterprise letter stating THEY paid the tolls and THEY are going to charge me $15 as an admin fee if I don't reach them within 15 days. Here's the problem...NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE. The only contact info on this letter is a number that goes straight into a voicemail of some sort. Extremely disappointed with this service and I've been using Enterprise for years. I'm a very busy traveling professional and tracking down someone is the very last thing I want to do. Unless someone resolves this issue I will never be using them again and I will pass this experience along to others I come in contact with…

I received an email from Enterprise stating "In accordance with the terms of your rental agreement, you are responsible for all citations and toll charges incurred during your rental period. Herewith, we are letting you know that we will be processing the payment for the citations or toll charges (plus applicable taxes, fees and or surcharges) to your credit card within seven days of this email." The citation was legit and did receive a $14 admin fee from Enterprise. The problem is Enterprise never paid the toll contradictory to what their email stated. The toll fee was $0.90. The fee is now in collections and is now $80.90. I've called and emailed Enterprise all my supporting documentation and all I received was "Sorry is this letter confused you..." The email clearly states they (Enterprise) would charge my credit card for the toll charge and fees which I was OK with. I am not OK that they did not do what they said they would do and now my credit may be affected. Also, why charge a $14 admin fee if nothing was processed? Isn't the $14 fee for processing and paying admin overheard?

I call BS. Every single toll has a sign that says “if you missed your toll call or visit 123XYZ. Plus merely google searching “pay my unpaid toll il” get you the direct link. I’ve lived here 15 years. I can go take a pic if you need.

I'm in the same boat as many.
I went thru a .75c toll which was automated and recieved a $15.00 charge along with the toll. As a company owner I have used Enterprise quite a lot and if this issue isn't properly rectified I'm done and I will also be telling everyone I know to never do business with them.

I too am disappointed with Enterprise and hope they change their practices. I had received a parking violation (my own fault) and paid the ticket myself within the week of getting it. It is now about 1 month later and I received a letter stating I will be charge a $14.00 fee. I called the number on the letter and was told it was an administrative fee. How ridiculous. The fine was paid, we should not be charged extra for resolving the issue ourselves. On top of that, at the time of my rental, the Enterprise location I had rented from had failed to put the newest license plate registration sticker on the plate of the car I was driving. I was therefore driving around with expired plates. I only realized this when I received a separate ticket for this violation. I called the office and they stated they had the sticker there and asked if I could bring the car back so they could put it on the license plate. This was not a huge deal, but did take me out of my way for the day. It's frustrating that there error cost me my time and when I resolve my own error, it costs me an additional $14.00.

Hertz is easier to deal with than Enterprise for the insanity of EZ Pass mistakes, overages.
My suggestion is do not rent from Enterprise if you have to use EZ Pass tolls. They will tell you "call the EZ pass company", and EZ pass will say "Call the rental car company". Meanwhile, you are helpless to $15 dollar fines and erroneous toll charges up to 8 months after you rent a car. If you paid cash, got the green light - tough luck.

When you rent with Hertz, they ask for your EZ pass statement and see that sometimes the meter does not work so they erase the insane fees. There is a real quagmire with rental cars and EZ Pass - it is anything but Easy.

I will never rent Enterprise again I spent over 20 hours on the phone and receive statements for items resolved again in 8 months.

I am in shock and the amount of people with complaints and problems concerning Enterprise and tolls. I hadperson a similar situation where there was no way to pay the toll. I was unfamiliar with the area and did not have my EZPass person and they said sorry, nothing they can do I had to pay the fee. VERY unhappy I paid it. And made note to always bring my transponder with me in rental cars. On my most recent trip I had the transponder on the dash but it must not have read it. I just got a letter from Enterprise for the $1.90 toll AND the $14 fee due. Now that $1.90 toll is c.osting me $15.90! I am a regular customer and appalled at this fee.

I had a rental from enterprise from 6/10/16-7/30/16 because my car was in the body shop. On 9/26/16 I received a letter dated 9/21/16 stating that I had a moving violation for the amount of $200 and a $10 admin fee which would be automatically charged to my credit card. I called the number listed on the letter [protected] to inquire about this ticket and they directed me to visit www.public.cite-web.com to view the ticket. I viewed the ticket and it was for incident that happened on 7/14/2016. The fee of the ticket is shown as $100. After contacting a few people including DMV website and an enterprise "manager" as she referred to herself, I was charged a $100 late fee. How can I be charged a late fee for a ticket that I didn't know anything about. The ticket was never sent to me, it was sent to enterprise. Enterprise didn't give me any option to contest or pay the ticket on time. Instead, they claimed, they paid $200 on my behalf and now seeking reimbursement from me. Either MVA sent the notice late to enterprise or enterprise paid the ticket late and was charged a $100 late fee. Either way I didn't receive the notification until 9/26/2016 which I have proof of. I have tried many times to reach the "manager" I spoke with and so far I have not been successful. I don't partake in unethical behaviors and enterprise have lost my business for good. I have also advised all of my friends and followers on social media of this incident and they will not be using enterprise either. I am still waiting for this "manager" to return my call since the only way I have of contacting her is by calling [protected] and giving the agent her employee # E723K6 to send her an email to get in touch with me which never happens. Enterprise does not practice ethical behaviors in my opinion and I will pursue legal action on this matter!

I sold my truck and needed a car for a day. Had no problem with the rental fee of 46.00 a day I accepted there insurance when the gentleman Jason was going through the walk around and said it was 5.00 a day I thought no big deal he said you wreck it all you need to do is bring back the keys and then he went on to the next sales pitch Pre Paid gas mentioned its only 2.99 a gallon if you take that option so I took it. Returned it today with bill for 117.89 and I completely understand taxes etc. How ever the bill shows 3.99 a gallon for pre-paid and the insurance was 13.95 if you want honest business don't go here they are rude and very misleading its a waste of money and time there are many other places to rent with better services.

I am really disappointed with the customer service at enterprise. I had rented a car a month ago and on returning, there were a few scratches on the bumper in the front. A friend of mine had a similar incident with another rental company (AVIS) and they were so nice that even though he had not taken any collision damage insurance, they did not charge him a single penny extra! I understand not everyone can be as nice. But I was charged 495 bucks that I had to pay out of my pocket because of the failure on the part of enterprise rentals to forward certain documents to my insurance company! its been a month and despite my phone calls and personal visits to the rental branch, no action has been taken yet. I was ready to get the documents personally from the rental branch and post them but I was told the DRU will deal with it and that they cannot provide me the documents. I am an international student and 500 bucks is a very huge amount for me and this pending issue has been causing me a lot of stress. I fail to understand what can take so long to forward the documents that are already prepared?

Rented from Enterprise receive a letter telling me I owed a .65 cent toll but charged my credit card $18.00. They paid the toll before I got the letter so when I tried to appeal the toll citation it had already been paid and closed. Call Enterprise Customer Service who sent me to the tolls department who left me on hold 10 minutes to tell me I needed to speak to the citation department (but he said they never answer so here is there number to call them back) and he was right the message says call back later, no option for voice mail been calling for days no answer. I guess this is a scam. Send a toll fee of $18.00 for an alleged .65cent toll and never answer the phone or allow an appeal.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car deceptive practice

It's very deceptive. They charge you "roadside assistance protection" even though you didn't ask for it. So, the total price comes out to be more than what they initially promised. I'm in MA, but I'd think they deceive the same way in other states.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car hit and run

On October 12, 2011, our car which was parked leagally on the corner of Weddington and Sepulveda Blvd in Van Nuys, CA, was struck and damaged considerably by Rafhael Sasson of 8745 Rosewood Ave, Hollywood 90048 (Driver License #B7436848) who was driving a rented truck from Enterprise rental company in Gardena, Ca. This person (Rafhael Sasson) then sped off, but not before a witness was able to identify the truck and license plate. The white bobtail truck had the remains of a Classic Party Rental logo on the side.

After filing a claim with RIS Rental Insurance Services, Inc., they denied our claim for damages. Any reasonable person would agree that with a copy of the rental contract from the driver, together with witness information and identification of the truck, that this claim is valid. Enterprise Rental has scammed me, is responsible for damaging my car, and yet there is nothing I can do about it.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car enterprise rental car misleading insurance

Loooong story short: After trying to force me into a huge van (mind you, I’m a student that needed a car for city-driving after my car was totaled by another driver) – the guy told me he could ‘upgrade me’ to an Impala for the trouble of having to go to another shop for a car. It was near closing time, so he had me initial a contract outside in the parking lot – in the DARK, while telling me – your options for insurance are partial or full. I told him, I already have insurance and I cannot afford to add more, but if a minimum is REQUIRED, then I have no choice.

He said, “OK, partial, that is the minimum”. AFter I get a bill for almost $400.00 for 2 weeks, I call and ask to have the charges itemized, and read the entire contract, and find that it was all optional – but no refunds here. I was on the phone with 2 managers for over an hour, and no result.

I will be posting a separate complaint to "insure" my case is disseminated to as many readers as possible, but I wanted to agree with your comment post and it looks like 3 years later, the problem of misleading insurance coverage is still a problem. My insurance company AAA adjuster even agrees the rhetoric is deceiving and confirmed that some agents are specifically pushing additional coverage as being required. "YOU WON'T BE COVERED...(through enterprise)". I have recorded the exact wording of the agent and reluctantly will continue moving forward with taking legal action. The experience of being in a collision creates opportunities for companies like this and speaks poorly on their corporate values. I acknowledge the possibility of this being a local trend or agent specific problem. However, I have not been provided with any support from Customer Service on how to mitigate this common problem. As expected. Perhaps posting a follow-up of your experience would shed more light on their receptiveness to customer feedback. 2 week renter here, down $430. This is more than I paid for my deductible!

Enterprise Rent-A-Car towing of a rental

I reserved a car with Enterprise for 3 days and within hours of receiving the car it was illegally towed.Four months pregnant in the highest crime rate city in the state I was left to catch a cab to the nearest hotel. I called Enterprise immediately to inform them on the towing. As a paying customer I was not accommodated with another rental and as the Enterprise slogans says "We'll pick you up" they failed miserably at this also. After being given no options I was forced to get on a 10 hour Greyhound back to my home.Sickened by the lack of customer service I experienced I was hospitalized for stress and the health of my unborn.I contacted the corporate office in St. Louis, MO and let them hear this appalling situation they for once seemed to be to interested on resolving my problem. Now 7 days $575 later the car has just been released from the impound and I'm stuck with a $120 rental fee, $100 deposit taken from me, $400 impound fee that was 6 days overdue on behalf of Enterprise.I will continue publicly with my story until it has been properly resolved on all ends.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car accused me of theft!

I rented a car and was called to come by and re-new the contract to ensure all my information was still current, I explained to the person who called all of it was the same. Today I received a called stating that if I did not return the car by tomorrow when they open I would be charged with STEALING the car!
My charges are paid in full, and I have been a long term customer yet I am totaly disrespected and accused of being a car theif. Brent said he would take out the appropriate papers and report that the car had been stolen, because the contract had no been renewed. There should be some large sign to warn customers they will be accused of being car thieves and treated like one if they deal with this particular location. I am returning the car and don't plan on going to that location again, next time I will go to Budget at the airport they have great rates and I haven't heard of them accusing their customerts of being Car Thieves! To me this is a very serious charge/accusation I am definetly not a car theif and the idea alone of being called such a thing does not sit will with me. There should be some type of notice at the business stating you are required to come back in and renew your contract every so many days or you will be considered a car theif.

So if you just went in and renewed it none of this would have happened? So why didnt you just do that? Do you need a notice to know that if your contract is up you need to renew it? Use some common sense.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car keeps charging me for toll violation

Have the same problem as other renters: they will not answer the phone or return calls...on an Illinois toll fee that I paid right after I got in the wrong lane. Paid it on my iPhone, and got confirmations from both the Illinois Tollway thanking me for my payment and the payment on my Amex account. To make matters worse, the form letter was sent to me in snail mail on 12/6/11, but I did not receive it until last week. Says I only have 15 days to respond or my card will be billed. This is the worse customer service I have ever experienced; my company set up this rental. This is criminal. I will have to fight this for a while now, as no one returns my calls.

Send me the violation via email, so i can send you proof I paid this violation. Answer the phone live. Never again, unless resolved.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car an already damaged car sold to me and poor treatment by sales people

A few months ago i purchased a 2006 dodge stratus from enterprise car sales that i have had problems with since i drove it off the lot. From the interior lights going back and forth from bright to dim, to the car just generally riding bad. When i informed them of this they acted like it was out of their hands and told me to take it to a shop they deal with.I have been doing alot of travelling lately because of my housing situation and have surpassed the extended warranty of 12 months or 12, 000 miles but i have only had the vehicle for a few months and it only has 64, 000 miles on it and it has a serious engine problem already. The check engine light came on a couple of weeks ago and i took it to a private mechanic at my own expense but it turns out the problem is more seious then they thought. It has low compression on cylinder three and probaly needs a new head.I informed enterprise of these problems which at first they acted as if they would help me even though i went over the warranty miles because i just got the car and have been complaining to them about it almost from the start. But once the found what the problem was and how much it would take to fix it they washed their hands of the situation and me, leaving me with a four year old car with only 64, 000 miles on it that is about to break down.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car insurance scam

On 16th of Nov my Insurance Company arranged a rental car for from Enterprise as my own car was damaged. While I took the car the representative looked at the car and marked the existing damages in the car. But she didn’t look into car by sitting low. I also didn’t know that they should look by sitting low so that they can see the bottom panel below the door. There was damage already in the car’s bottom panel below the door which she didn’t notice. When I went to return the car there was another representative and he looked into the car by sitting low and found that damage.

I did mention to him that the lady didn’t look at the car the way you are doing it. That’s how she missed it. The damage was already present and I’m not responsible for that. The damage has rust on it, so that way you know it’s done long before. I’ve the picture of the damage. I had the vehicle only for 3 days. But he didn’t agree and said since it was not mentioned in the paper you have to be responsible for that. I’m just pissed about the fact because of one employee’s fault I’m responsible for a damage that I didn’t do. The matter is still with their claims department. But one thing for sure I’m never going to rent a car from Enterprise in future.

Whoever reading this make sure you really look into car while renting it thoroughly. Normal body scratch you would be able to see, but make sure you check the lower portion of the car.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car damange charge, not caused by me! enterprise take advatanges of young customers

I rented a red chev cobalt from enterprise rent-a-car, owings mills around september 5th and returned the vehicle on the 22nd to the enterprise location on crain hwy, glenn burnie, md.
Then I surprisingly received a damage charge from enteprirse rent-a-car for over $700 claim.

The claim was for the cobalt's taillights and bumper damages, that are not caused by me!

It was one of those extremely gloomy days; the rain was pouring and the sky was dark and cloudy. bill, the enterprise rental associate at owings mills, md 21117 showed me the chev cobalt not in the front of the rental service, but at the back of the rental service, under a roof tent, with very dim lighting.

He quickly walked me through around the car. I saw a few black spots on the bumper as well as suspicious scratches on the tail lights and I pointed out to him. bill said: oh, they are not scratches or anything; it’s just dirty!” I looked at him and wanted to take a closer look; however, bill took a step quicker and said ” yes, it’s just dirty!”
Then he hurried me to move on.

When I signed the forms, I double confirmed with him about the “dirty spots”. he said “don't worry!” and he would not put any damange notice on the paper.

Just as anyone can imagine, when I try to return the vehicle at glenn burnie, md location, a female enterprise associate at crain hwy, glenn burnie, md, questioned about the marks on the car and the taillights! I immediately asked the female associate to call bill and repeated what bill said about “dirty”. the female associate spoke to bill and then she told me ” bill will close out this ticket”.

Nothing further.
Nothing was communicated to me for 3 wks! no one said anything about charging me. until this $765 dollar bill.

for damages that are not made by me

Enterprise rental advertises as one of the best networked rental services, as you can return a rental car in any location. but it’s one of the most convenient ways that they can charge you any damage. its just I realized too late.

To enterprise rent-a-car :

Is this what you mean by superior or what so called world-class service and complete customer satisfaction?

Is this how you show your customer integrity and honesty?

I trusted your neighborhood network and believed in your culture of customer service, and see what I get?

I feel nothing but being taken advantaged of!

Dear td577,
Not everyone is experienced with car renting. We all learn our lessons.

All I can say is, I trusted an EXPERIENCED Enterprise rental ssociate when I should NOT!

And still, I am relying on the people and the firm's INTEGRITY to solve this case .

I had a similar issue with enterprise, and took them to small claims court to get my deductible back. From this I uncovered that if you return the car after hours, or to a satellite location than you are responsible for the vehicle until they check it in, which could be anytime (even a month!). I'm interested connecting with other folks who had similar issues to talk about legal rights. If you'd like to learn more about taking some legal action, please contact me at enterpriseclaims@hotmail.com (not associated with Enterprise, just don't want to give out my personal e-mail). Hope to hear from anyone soon.

When we returned a rental to Enterprise last week, the person checking us in got on his knees and looked under the car and found a small dent. When we rented it, the guy walked around quickly and did not find a thing, and certainly did not get on his knees and look UNDER the car. Now we just received a statement that we are responsible for damages to the bumper, the wheel, a DOOR HANDLE, a MIRROR. What? I am finding accounts like ours all over the internet. Our incident happened in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car deceptive practice

On 9/26/2011 I went to Enterprise Car Rental located on Wilcrest St. Houston, TX to pick up a rental car which was authorized and paid for by Progressive (no fault of my own). I was asked by the lady manager at Enterprise why not renting a SUV since my vehicle on repair was Toyota Highlander. She said she would call Progressive and assure me there was no extra charge on my part. Today 9/30/2011 when I returned the rental Jeep Compass which I only drove for 32 miles. I was charged $43.48 for upgrading which was billed to my credit card on file. That’s totally unexpected and you can imagine how upset I was for being ripped off like this. So be very aware of this car rental company.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car hail damage claim

My car was involved in an accident on June 11 2011 as a result the other drivers insurance
company rented a car for us from Enterprise. While the insurance claim was being handled
the car was a total loss so we were paid.
I returned the Cheverlet Aveo to Enterprise, where to my surprise I was told there was hail
damage to the rental car. I asked if Andrew Barnard could point it out to me. he said no that
I should go outside and look for myself. Both me and my son went out to look and we could
not see such damage we went inside and strongly disagreed but to no avail. We have contacted
all parties involved. American Express has denied coverage because of the fact that
Liberty Mutual the other drivers insurance paid for the rental ( I only used my credit card
to secure the car not pay for it. Liberty said they are not responsible my allstate has $500
deductable we are left with no coverage.
The Fraud is that this car was not out in the hail storm it was in a covered area.
So it would be impossible for it to have sustained such damage. Also the amount they are
seeking is outrageouse $ 790.81. Something needs to be done about this kind of claim.
There is no proof of damage by them or proof of repairs. This car had many paint chips on
it when I rented it. I guy who was going over the car said it was noted. yet not repaired from
a previous incident, yet I am being charged for all repairs. where did the money go for the last
person who gave it back damaged.

I hope you did not pay this claim. The same thing happened to me. Even with your high deductible, use your insurance company's leverage to deny the claim. They should be able to obtain a forensic weather report to prove there were no hail storms. Enterprise will have to provide sufficient photographic evidence to counter the photographic evidence you have. Fraud, plain and simple.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car con add on charges

Just returned from a Labor Day trip to Colorado. Service was incredible at Enterprise Car Rental but beware! It appears all the kind hearted care and a personal guide to your car is cover to disarm you into agreeing to additional charges. When we returned the rental car our bill was twice what we originally agreed to. I believe all these bodies taking renters to their car must be commissioned salesmen and adding on charges while they pretend to talk to you about your trip.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car dent car scam

rented a card from Enterprise in the UK and when I took it back they claimed we had dented it. We had only driven about 30 miles and garaged overnight. It was impossible! They claimed $250 standard charge we thought that was the end of it but now they want another $600! We have a photograph and the reair shop says they would fix it for $100. Buyer be warned Enterprise charge for miniscule dents. Avis only charge if damage is over one inch long. So when you go to an airport note where the lines are Avis and Hertz, they like their customers!

Enterprise Rent-A-Car scratch scam

I picked up a black Dodge Caliber from Enterprise at PHL in late July. Did a "walk around" with the employee at 11 p.m. in a dark parking lot. The car was dirty and scratches and dents were noted. This was not a new car as it had 19, 000+ miles on it.
Upon retun, the employee noted a "new" scratch on the bottom of the rear quarter panel. It was a small surface scratch. New? Who knows.
He put a $500 charge on my credit card and referred me to their "damage recovery unit". I have put the amount of this charge in dispute with my credit card company and will never deal with these scammers again. I'm sure a certain percentage of people don't fight claims like this and it's a windfall for Enterprise.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car false dru claim

This began as a vacation... We rented a car from the charleston, sc airport location. We were given the second-to-last car in the lot - an unprotected lot without fences or staff to check cars/papers when leaving. We had the car for one week and were planning on returning it to the charleston airport until our flight was canceled the night before departure due to impending weather. We managed to get a flight out of myrtle beach instead. We called the 800# for enterprise customer service and they stated that we can return the car to myrtle beach airport location for a $40 fee. We dropped off the car at 7:45 in the am at myrtle beach - it actually stated so on the receipt. The car was fine. The enterprise employee outside scanned the car and gave us a receipt – the receipt was incorrect so we walked inside to the counter and corrected the error. All set. End of story? We thought so. Over two weeks later we received a letter in the mail from enterprise stating that "our damage recovery unit has received notification of damage or loss" to our rental. It asked for a credit card or insurance information. That was it - no description of this "damage.”
We began two hours of calling different numbers in order to find out what was going on - it was 4pm. The first time we called the dru (Damage recovery unit) we got their voicemail - and left a message asking for an immediate phone call back. We then called the myrtle beach location where we returned the car in order to find out more about this “damage.” no answer but left a voice mail. We also called the 800# customer service and asked for more information about what this damage was. They didn’t know but they offered to transfer us to someone who could help. The customer service rep transferred us to roadside assistance - obviously they couldn't help us. We called dru again and got an employee who looked up the dru claim number but said there was no one there to help - it was around 5pm now - we told her we wanted a call back and she barked"ok" and hung up on us. We called the charleston location and they answered the phone. We asked for more information on the damage. They said that the damage was phoned into them from the myrtle beach location at 7:30am the day we returned it. So the damage report was issued 15 minutes before we returned the car. Interesting. Charleston said to call myrtle beach to find out what the damage was. We called myrtle beach back and got voicemail over and over – we had already left a message earlier. So we waited and they called back around 5:45pm. Myrtle beach said they remember us dropping off the car but that they lost the damage paperwork and gave us another number to call for the dru department. We called that number but got the same department. An enterprise employee answered the phone and said they are closed – it was almost 6pm. She said to call back between 8am and 6pm. We again said we wanted a call back and she said to call instead tomorrow. (Guess she had a hot date.)
We called the dru department and finally spoke to a nice employee who said that the damage was a nick in the windshield. We stated that we didn’t see any damage nor did we incur any damage. We also said that when we picked up the car in charleston that it was in an unsecured lot without an attendant checking vehicles and when we returned it to myrtle beach the employee did not do a walk around. We stated that it was very aggravating to receive a vague letter that didn’t explain any details and only asked for either credit card or insurance information. The employee said she would take care of it an understood our concerns and that it would take about 30 days to finalize. Unfortunately for enterprise we had already decided the night before to never rent from enterprise again. Rude dru employees, vague and accusatory letters, missing paperwork and unsecure practices reinforces our decision not to rent from them again.
