I’ve banked with Citizens for 25 years and used Zelle one time. On May 17th, I was convinced by a scammer on Facebook Marketplace that Zelle had a business account product, for which I had to increase my account limits. After some hesitation and being unfamiliar/fatigued in that moment, I agreed to a $300 transfer in order to be “refunded” for the business account limit. I immediately realized (w/in 30 minutes) my error, filed a claim with the bank, with the CFBP and with Zelle. Citizens denied the claim in less than a week, as I had “authorized” the transaction
I have had ONE lapse in 25 years using a product attached to my account that has no consumer protections whatsoever.
Desired outcome: I request the bank refund me $300.
