My husband and I rented a car from Alamo at Bradley International Airport in Hartford Ct. last week. It was a basic Hyundai Sonata. We checked for dings etc. but we never checked the tires. Driving at 70mph on the interstate a half hour later, the tire blew out. When I say blew out, the rubber totally disintegrated and we were down to the actual rim! By the grace of God, we did not have an accident. We limped off the interstate, driving ON THE RIM, and made it to a safe location. That is when we noticed that every tire on the car was made by a different manufacturer. One was a Michelin, one by Goodrich, etc. The car only had about 30K miles on it so something was wrong. If they regularly check tire safety, they sure missed this one. It was very scary and very upsetting. The good news is we are fine and roadside service was fast. Stephen came and put on the spare as it was getting dark and we drove the 20 miles SLOWLY to our destination. But then when we tried to get a replacement car the next day, we spent 3-4 hours talking to every Alamo/Enterprise location in the area and all we got was a runaround. Sorry...no cars. Maybe we will have one, no promises, check again tomorrow! So much for all the promises of customer satisfaction. I did not fly from FL to CT to miss my grandson's high school graduation in MA. The next day I literally begged for a car (this is now the second day with no car) I finally got a responsive employee. His name is Antonio Nesbitt, the Assistant Branch Manager at the Milford, CT. location. He promised us a car if we drove (on the spare at 40 mph) to his location about 10 miles away, and he delivered. He was sympathetic, caring, professional and helpful! Everyone else simply said they could not "guarantee" us a car. NOT HELPFUL! Or asked if we could drive back to Bradley to exchange the car...REALLY? ON THE SPARE? More than 50 miles? Or another airport 100 miles away?
Our new rental was fine but we checked all the tires before we drove again. When we returned the car to Bradley, another employee, Jeleisha , was also very sweet and helpful. In the future, I will never hop in a rental car again without checking the tires and asking the techs if they have as well. Jeleisha told us Alamo/Enterprise have tire safety techs but I believe this was just carelessness on their part. So be cautious with ANY company. Doubt I will rent from Alamo again.
Recommendation: Doubt I will rent from Alamo/Enterprise again. Check ALL the tires before you leave. Ask them when they were checked last, and make sure ALL the tires are from the same company!!!
