The car was rented at the Geneva Airport and worked normally until it was taken up to the mountains at 1500m over sea level. The car refused to start on a cold frosty morning. The battery was later checked by the workshop and changed. The problem was not that the battery was discharged due to negligence, in that case it would only have been recharged. The car did not start due to negligence, it was due to a bad battery that did not perform as expected when cold. ALAMO should not charge the client for repair or parts in this case. This is mentioned in several independent sites, the renter is not charged in case of mechanical or electrical breakdown if not due to a fault by the renter. When renting a car the client would expect the car to fulfill its task during the rental without problem. Unfortunately we had no time to wait for a replacement car since 3 persons had to catch a flight from Geneva Airport in that morning.
Claimed loss: Two months after leaving Switzerland ALAMO charged the credit card 10084SEK ($1083) for repair and roadside assistance.
Desired outcome: ALAMO should not claim the client for the car maintenance. No damage was caused by the client. In Switzerland you would expect a car to function at altitude.
