I live in San Antonio Tx and had used the self checkout many times as it was easier for me since there is never anyone at a register. I prefer to have a person check me out as that is part of the service we are paying for and to be quite honest I am not getting any discounts or paid to checkout the items that I am trying to purchase.
The first time that this happened I can't tell but I was concerned as I was at the register checking out and was given an error message sure ok I will try it again after several attempts I contacted my financial institution and explained the situation. There is a glitch in self checkout lines so when ever I try and use the self checkout after someone else has just used it at any Walmart I get an error code and after inserting my card and trying to swipe it. A few assistant managers have taken me to a regular register and have checked me out with no issue. I can go to any other store HEB Target and have no problem.
On Friday 19 September 2025 I went to Walmart on Bandera Rd and Mainland in San Antonio Tx in search of birthday gifts for my granddaughters, hoping that all would go well at this Walmart Store as I have not used it since this issue has begun. Unfortunately I had the Sam issue the young man attending the self checkout had never seen this issue and was not sure what to do as he tried to manage it to the best of his ability then went to get his manager who had me waiting for 20-30 minutes before she came over.
Her response was of the utmost disgusting unsatisfactory I have ever come across. Her response was "What do you want me to do about it?"
"if they can't figure it I can't either and I can't override the system"
"It is an issue with your bank apparently you don't have the funds"
I tried to explain to her that it is not my bank or my card as everyone of self checkouts has this issue with my financial institution.
"Well I can't help you figure it out"
So yes I was P.O I threw the bag at her and told her to go F her fat self . I walked out and went to Target, TJ Max and HEB and got my granddaughters their birthday gifts. I felt she was stereotyping me because I am Hispanic and she is white, this would not be the first time this has happened
Desired outcome: Have classes on customer service skills, supervisor training regularly, harassment, discrimination. Hire more cashiers to work the registers so people can actually have a chance of being able to support themselves and/or their families.
