@vikingrivercruise - @TorsteinHagen - My wife and I booked a Christmas Markets river cruise departing December 2025 with Viking in October 2023 and paid a very reasonable deposit. It was then paid in full in May 2024. Unfortunately, 17 days before the cruise my wife had a fall resulting in broken bone making her unable to travel. Forcing us to reschedule our trip. It was never our intention to cancel the cruise but reschedule for next year in the exact same time period and room category. Because this reschedule request was so close to the cruise Viking will not rebook but instead has applied a 100% cancelation fee and then expect us to pay for another cruise for next year. I never asked for or wanted a cancellation. All we wanted to do was rebook. I understand it was very close to the cruise date, but this was unforeseeable. I was willing to pay a reasonable rebooking fee but was told that cancellation was the only option. They have had our money for over 18 months! I do not understand why we could not rebook. If this is there way of building good customer relations, they are failing. Rebooking due to an unforeseen medical emergency should not be grounds cancellation and a total loss of funds.
Recommendation: Find another cruise line that understands unforeseen events
