I went to a bank to withdraw money from my account. I declined the transaction because their fee was too high. This bank withdrew my money anyway, even though I received nothing. I disputed this that evening. That was over 3 weeks ago. I called the bank and they had put it back over 2 weeks ago. I have called netspend daily, talked to customer service and supervisors. I have left countless messages to the dispute dept. and still nothing. They said it shows the bank sent it back, but it has not been posted to my account. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE? 2 WEEKS? Do these people have families to feed. I do and I can't because NETSPEND STOLE MY MONEY!GRRR

fraud charges not refunded???
My debit card was used fraudulently and it drained all of my money. I followed all the steps to insure my money would be given back to me. Long story short 10 days after filing my disputes I called their customer service center, if thats what you want to call it. Anyhow the simple answer was mam we are sorry you lost your dispute. I nearly fainted being that it would be clear to see it was fraud if a blind man was seeing the activity...I am fighting for my money

My name is Gary Rosenthal and Netspend stole 4, 200 on two cards and said too bad you reported it a month later
I have had the same issue as in the last part of April I had 4 unauthorized transactions on my account in Texas I live in Florida. I feel its an internal situation as I had ordered a new card after mine got destroyed in the washing machine. They people I spoke with to order the new card was with customer service. 3 days later my card was hit and all of my information was changed to a Texas adr. I have never lived in Texas at all. I had to do a dispute letter and get a police report. Needless to say I closed all accounts with these people. I will contact the State Atty General of Florida as well as Texas to get my money back. Also contact the FDIC as the cards are issued through MetaBank in Omaha Ne. Also I am contacting the FTC and the BBB in Austin against these people. They need to stopped.
I had the same situation. Over $800 + the $1 per transaction fee! Netspend did the same thing, and just kept pushing me around. They are supposed to be approved by BBB online, so I filed a complaint a few days ago with the BBB.
netspend not refunding my money
There were unauthorized charges that submitted on debit card for 59.95. So how every time I speak with an associate, its someone in the philippines or somewhere. Anyhow I spoken already up to 10 reps, no one can assist me or tell me what going on. The send me to an automated systems that requires me to leave my claims number name and number, and says will call back in 24-48 its been almost been 3 weeks and still have not been notified. Then they blocked my card without my authorization, and had 378.00 hold on my card. Tell this day I have not been refunded called backed or notified. Then they tell me it takes 10 to process when another transaction for 79.95 after spending with a rep was credit the next day.

dont do directdeposit
I have had netspend since 2005 and thought, that I could turst them. However I have never been so dissappointed. The 1st problem I had was making a purchase @ a store the info came sayin bank unavaiable when the purchase was for $25.00 and my account had over $250.00 that posted over 5days before the next problem started with direct directdeposit that shows up like 2days late when calling to speak with a manager @ netspend his answer to my ? Was they have received very large amounts new customer wanting directdeposit so that could be the problem keep in mind I have been with this company for 4 years and this the answer he gives me it's 12pm my time and no deposit yet this is payday friday...
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I have been using Netspend since 2006 and have had direct deposit with them for about as long. I have never once gotten a late direct deposit. In fact, the direct deposit is usually credited literally as soon as it arrives and is released from my employer. I have nothing but good experiences with them with the exception of the extra 15% autorized when you rent a car.. But that extra 15% is immediately returned once you complete the transaction with the car rental company.
Sometimes the problem isn't with the card or the corporation itself.
Sometimes it has to do with when your company allows that money to go out.
It varies at different places, and it might be worth a stop by H.R or a call to your corporate headquarters to make sure it's not them.
If it truly isn't them, then at least you can go to netspend and tell them that it is indeed their problem. Your company may even be willing to talk to them on your behalf, since getting paid funds is important to their employees. But start with the company, because everyone's policies are different.
victim of id theft allowed to be violated twice by netspend
Hello my name is sasha marie wilson-talley and here is the letter of dispute I sent to netspend and online debit account opened by a marcus darringtion in toledo ohio, who stole my id and had my son's ssi benefits deposited into this online account... I don't know what the resolution will be after reading some of these stories. I fear I will not get the stolen funds returned to me. And i'm deeply depressed about the whole situation... Here is the dispute I faxed to them they also received all police reports and supporting documents...
To: whomever this concern
My detailed explanation of what happened some dates and time’s where provided to me by customer services agents at netspend after I requested them by phone.
My name is sasha m wilson-talley; you will know me by the name sasha wilson on the netspend online debit account; the person that open this account after stealing my identity did not realize I had two last names. I will email this explanation and fax it and all my police reports and picture id to confirm my identity to fax number [protected] and my attorney also has copies of it too. Please continue to read my explanation of what happened below….
I am a victim of identity theft…someone who I now know as marcus darrington, managed to steal my identity (Identity theft) and called social security to get my minor son jamarion c wilson account number to attain his social security benefits. Then on february 11, 2009 marcus called and opens a debit account at netspend.com (Metabank) and had my son monthly $674 benefit amount deposited on a netspend debit card. I became aware of this activity on february 18, 2009 when I received a letter from social security (S. S) letting me know that my son’s benefits were deposited on a debit card. I called s. S to inquire thinking at the time it was an automated debit enrollment. S. S gave me the name of the bank metabank that was now handling the account and netspend the debit card name. I called the number they gave me to netspend and they said a card was issued and I should be receiving it in the mail in 10 business days.
When no card arrived I called netspend on march 2, 2009 they told me that the card had been issued and the social security benefit that was deposited february 23, 2009 on the card was withdrawn the same day. I was baffled and confused, I told the agent on the phone that I never received the card and how can it be used so soon when my son’s benefits would not be issued until february 27, 2009. All he said was he will reissue another card and told me to call social security to speak to them. I then called social security and told them what the guy at netspend said that’s when the agent looked into my son’s account and said the benefits had been used. I then told them that I never received them nor the card that I thought at the time was an automated debit enrollment. That’s when social security said they did not enroll me in the netspend debit account that they use their own treasury account. Only then did I realize that I was a victim of identity theft. I cried and told social security that the netspend deposit was done without my knowledge. That my son’s benefits were fraudently put into account without my permission. Social security then started their investigation. After I talked to social security I again called netspend and voiced my concern, I told them that the account they had was not opened by me and my son’s benefits were stolen. The man offered me an apology and then asked me what the card number, and I told them I had not received a card yet. He said he would have someone check into it and I should call back in a few days. On march 4, I called netspend back and asked them what they were doing about my account. The person on the phone, I really couldn’t understand his broken english I then demanded the account to be closed, but the person at netspend said it was better to block the card ending in 5207 since they reissued another card. So on march 4, 2009 the card ending in 5207 was blocked. Afterward I waited for social security to do their investigation.
On march 13, I again called netspend to tell them I received the card ending in 7190 that’s when I was informed that the card ending in 5207 was active. I told them the card 5207 was stolen and that social security was looking into the matter as we speak. And again said I did not open the netspend account and that I wanted to close it. But the person again convinces me that I should keep the account. And said he will block the stolen debit card ending in 5207 and asked me for a password other than wilson. I then said voilet. He said that the person that stole my identity will no longer have access to the account and everything will be fine. He then gave me a temporary password and my username so I could access the online account. I immediately logged on registered the new card ending in 7190 and was satisfied to see that the debit card ending in 5207 was indeed blocked. On march 16, I logged onto the account an noticed a strange email address [protected]@yahoo.com (It still on my profile) I realize the name immediately its was my next door neighbor. On march 18, I formerly filed a police report that the culprit that stole my identity was marcus darrington my next door neighbor and not only had he opened the account at netspend to steal my son’s benefits and that I started receiving suspicious mail from loan companies with mr darrington’s phone number on them. After I filed the police report a dectective took over the investigation. But came to a dead because the video survelliance where the card was used ending in 5207 had been erased. They said if I get any more information about darrington to submit the information to the police station.
On march 27, I logged onto my account at netspend and noticed something stranger the previous balance of $3.78 was now $0.22 I checked the transaction history and saw that another deposit of $674 was made through the treasury on march 27, and the funds were depleted from the account using the card ending in 5207 making my total loss with this company to $1348. I was shocked and angry I immediately called the police and cried hysterically to them on the phone. They then dispatched a police car and an ambulance fearing I was hyperventilating. I then called netspend and angriedly scolded them for allowing a stolen debit card to be activated again for the third time. I was heated and disgusted in the company. That they promise that it was not going to happen and again my son’s benefits were stolen for a second time. I cried, I screamed it was very traumatic on me knowing that I was violated again through this company not handling their business properly and allowing thieves to open and activate accounts. It was heart wrenching by the time the police came I was in deep despair an was inconsolable. Only then while still on the phone that a female said I needed to file a dispute. I wasn’t offered this before because I was under the impression that this was a social security investigation. She asked me did I have knowledge of any of the transactions and I said no, to each and every transaction she mentioned. She then cooperated fully and gave me information to give to the police transaction times for the benefits that were just stolen on march 26, and the store name. So the police could dispatch someone to the store to have the video surveillance secured. The lady on the phone at netspend apologized over and over this is the only time that your company showed genuine concern for what had just happened to me again. I was devastated to know that a stolen card was allowed to be reactivated. I again demanded the account be closed and the lady said that since I will be disputing the transactions that the account had to remain open. But said she would make sure that the card ending in 5207 will be blocked and not activated again. Afterward she apologized again and hung up the phone.
On march 28, I called netspend in the afternoon to get the exact dates the card was open and the days I had it blocked. This lady asked my my mothers maiden name as usual and I said none. She then said it was not correct. I said well every time I call you guys I answer the same way. She then asks for my social security number and mailing address. I was happy to see that they were finally doing a proper job. So I answered them. And then asked about the date when the account opened and the dates I had the card deactivated. She then asked me did you just call I said no, well she said someone just called thirty minutes ago. I again said no this is the first time today. She then said that the card number ending in 5207 was active again. I was shocked beyond belief, and stated that just yesterday they promise me that it couldn’t be open again. How is this happening I asked? She said that the person that has all my information answered the two security questions correctly. And she was now going to not only block the card but put a red flag on it forbidding anyone to reopen it. And said she will let her supervisor know of this situation, and I should immediately file my dispute and fax it along with my police reports. I told her I had another police report to pick up for the march 26 incident too and will send that also. I don’t know what type of company you run but to allow a stolen card to be reopened numerous times is unbelievable. I have reached the end of my description i’m pretty sure there will be more to come. Because, this is far from over. I’m now seeking counsel because netspend has failed me in a major way. Not only was the account open without my knowledge and I was robbed. You allowed it to happen a second time. I’m sickened by what happen to me. How can you consider yourself a business when you allow your customers to be violated? A company like you is why the better business bureau exists. I’m truly disgusted in netspend. I wait eagerly for mr marcus darrington to be caught by the police and I am undecided on how will I deal with the betrayal that netspend dealt me.

Hello,
My name is Armond A Busby. My reference # is [protected], my claim # is 3611086. Someone hacked into my account and got money off my account for some purchase of $ 72.40 paid to obt- mate1. I did not authorize this and this is not the first time this has happened. Please I want my money back. Call me to whom this may concern or I going to the attorney General.
Well trisha as a fellow customer of netspend former customer. I had the same thing happen. They didn't re-open the account. But it's been nearly 4 months of constant calls. And no refund check. So netspend at the very least isn't honoring their fdic obligation to reimburse victims either.
As an employee of Netspend, I checked the account and Ms. Wilson was credited all of her money that was stolen back to her account a mere week after they were charged.
At this point your best course of action is to sue the person that opened the fradaulant account.
You could name netspend in a lawsuit but i'm not sure I'd recommend it. You have to have proof that they knowingly let someone steal your identity twice and it's going to be near impossible to get.
I think a letter of complaint like yours is a good step but identity theft and going after the individual who started the whole mess? Much more logical and probably more beneficial in the end than taking on a corporation who will insist they handled the situation the way they trained their people to.
I am being charged 10.00 a month and cannot use my card. the balance is very low now and I need a refund of my $50.00 back.
Back in the month of february, I applied for a netspend visa card. I have always had a netspend card since the first time they came out. I put $50.00 on the card, because I knew that someday soon, I would actually need the money. Well, the time is way past, and I need my $50.00 now more than ever. I signed up for the unlimited use program and am currently blocked from using my card. Due to suspected identity theft, my entire name has changed. I sent them information twice concerning my identity, including an old out of state driver's license in the month of february. I contacted them, again in the months of february and this month as well. I no longer drive, so I now have a regular security i. D. That information was faxed this month.
Now, they want old information when I did drive. Look, i'm too damn poor to play these assinine games. I graduated from being homeless last year to having my own apartment. My foodstamps, as of today I no longer get. So, I do need that last $50.00 to eat on and whatever. I refuse to go to the church places that feed the homeless anymore. The environment is not a really cheery-like place. I need my $50.00 now. Please help. Because of their monthly charges, my balance is now $0.00 and have never used the card, yet. Nor have I even been sent my permanent one.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
When you opted in to unlimited use, you also opted in to a 9.95 a month fee.
I doubt you will see your fifty dollars back, putting the money in a savings account or hiding it under your pillow would have been smarter.
Also, to the other person, are you sure you read it correctly? it states there will be no monthly charge if credits/debits are made and the account balance is checked. If you can prove you did both, then you should be able to get your refund back. I know the way they phrase it on the website leads you to believe it can be one or the other but I have a sneaky suspicion its both.
Because really, tha'ts how most of these cards work.
I was declined using the NetSpend card in conjunction with my PayPal account for an eBay purchase. I have only had the card since December 2008. The dialog box stated in red that my card had expired, but I had just checked, and the balance was sufficient to cover the charge. The agreement states the service charge is waived if there is current monthly activity, but they are still charging me $5.95 a month to have the card. I have canceled my account and requested a payment for the balance, minus a $5.95 service charge. I will never use their service again.
total scam
I received their offer a few days ago in the mail, I was sickened by the legaleze
That I could barely read. They use a type font of 4 which is barely readable. They charge a monthly service of of $9.95, plus there are tons of hidden charges. This company slowly extracts money from you and you don't even know it's happening untill it's to late-if you file a complaint you go through a process from hell, you'll eventually grow tired of waiting and just give up-that's what they expect you to do. This company is one of the biggest fraudsters out there. They prey on consumers with very little credit or that can't open a bank account. Look around people checking accounts are free these days...
Please read all the other posts on this company and "dont" sign up"
Your wallet (And wife) will thank you

u dont have to pay the 9.95 a month this is something u sign up for
and if u have a problem call [protected] they will fix it
It's called read the fine print, angry people always complain, and if you activate the card, sign up, or click a button stating you agree, then you have agreed.
Maybe people should be smart enough to not blame others because they can't read small print or find a magnifying glass if it worries them so much. Also? You choose your fees, when you use the card you are authorizing fees, and in the end? The blame rests solely on you.
Are you even smart enough to realize that by being on this website, you agreed to a million terms and conditions by clicking and posting this comment that you probably even aren't aware of?
Small print sucks but it's everywhere, watch out for those medication commercials . . . lol.
unauthorized charged
Monday 2/01/2009 I went to david's check cashing in brooklyn, newyork. I loaded $600.00 on my netspend prepaid visa card. I've been a card holder since 02/2008. I did'nt use the card in a while before that 600.00 load. The next day 02/02/2009 I got a txt message from netspend telling me a 100.00 t-mobile charge was made. I don't have a t-mobile account. I called netspend they said they will look into the matter. Which I assume they will. I spoke to a supervisor name anna who told me to call back on 02/06/2009 she will release the funds back to my account cause t-mobile already collected the monies. Now here it is 02/16/2009 still no 100.00 I called t-mobile who don't know sh** they couldnt even fax over a document to netspend explaining that I dont have a tmobile account I just heard a million sorry and excuse now netspend is telling me they didnt run a investigation because I never fax over a letter (Which they never told me to do) they just told me not to worry and they will get my money. I just want my damn money back. Please dont use netspend they are rip offs and they will not help you.

unauthorized charges
I had an unauthorized charge placed on my account in november 7, 2008. The company that placed the charge on my acoount contacted you and request that the money be placed back on my account to no avail. I've contacted your customer service department and requested that the money be returned to my account. Each time i called i was told something different. I was told to fax you a copy of my bill. The $ 53. 63 was not part of my bill, that money was added to my bill after i checked out. According to the marriott, it was a security deposit to make sure nothing was broken or taken from the room, and was supposed to be returned to my card witin two days. They also stated that they had contacted netspend and request that they release the funds. Netspend told me that the company had not request that the money be released. I contacted the marriott again and with me on the phone they contacted netspend and was told the money will be release within 48 hours. I also called netspend and was told the money will be released within 48 hours. I called netspend today and was told that they don't release the money until after 90 days. With the economy like it is, no one should have to wait to retrive their hard earned money. It is four days from being 90 days. This is a poor policies and procedures as well as poor customer services. Whenever my money is placed back into my account, i will closed this account and deter any one else from doing business with this company.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Whenever unauthorized charges appear on your bank account, you should contact your bank immediately to resolve the situation. Your bank can help you with these charges by filing a dispute claim. Just call the customer service phone number usually found on the back of your debit card and give the agent a list of the unauthorized charges. Usually, you have to file a written statement describing what happened and your bank can assist you in getting your money back.
poor customer service/high fees
This bank stinks. The customer service associates are some of the rudest I have EVER encountered. They also hold your paychecks until thw latest possible times even getting ridiculous with the releasing times. Other banks that the company he works for ALWAYS get the reaeased funds to the employees way before Skylight financial post theres. Then they have the nerve on Holidays to think they are doing you a favor by putting the funds in at 11pm on Christmas Eve night. The other banks had released funds to his coemployees that MORNING! They pulled this crap on Thanksgiving too! Then they are complete A$$e$ when inquiring about the pay near thwe holidays. There fee's are ridiculous too! .50 cent for everytime you swipe your card and trans action charges are 2.00 a hit! They are bilking poor unsuspecting families. There are public complaints on this issue ...http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2008/05/us-bankengages-in-fraud-with-skylight_02.html...this proves they are deceitful in there practices. Also look up there reputation on the better business burau, you can acces it through skylight.net ...just click on the bbb logo!

Checks came with my Skylight card account. I called followed the instructions received a confirmation code to write on the check filled it out as instructed. I deposited the check in my checking account thinking all checks can be deposited. Never heard a check you can't deposit. Wrong my check was returned along with 4 NSF charges at 34 dollars each and my back charged me 12 for return check . Called Skylight customer service they proceed to tell me those cks can't be deposited. Would not help me at all. Cost me 148.00 . Changed to direct deposit . Also charge 3.50 at ATMs😐
I canceled my membership with skylight & requested a cheque to be sent to me. 1 months later I have not received my check & when I call I am told the check was mailed and it was returned. Then 1 month later I am told the check was mailed but I still have not received it. I get put on hold for very long time & when someone picks up it's still no help, even supervisors just regurgitate the same rebottles & do not solve anything they just hurry to get you off the phone
They lock my account I need my money for medicine, gas bill please give me my money back Daphne Driscol
This company is worst to do business with, I really don't know why some companies use them, their representatives are super rude and apparently they are reading a script while they are speaking with you, I had my card information stolen and I file the dispute right away, and had to wait over 15 days for a resolution, after that time they close my case, and never provided details to why they closed my case, they also refuse to send me the documentation I requested from them in order to make the decision to close the case, and also they never send me the replacement card, I lost my money, and now I cant even get in touch with them because when I called the system automatically kicks me out after I enter my social to access my account. I lost $4900. This company is a total fraud!
Skylight financial has horrible customer service, you speak with someone who barely speaks english that repeats everything several times because you can barely understand them...Im super annoyed and will never do business with them again and have encouraged my fiance to close his business with them
i very rarely use my skylight card and i moved $20 to it so i could use it on paypal. well 3 days and $5 later it moves in.
then i get hit by $10 of fee's dating back to 2/6/14 some i never even heard of. when i ask if i could have my $10 back they said no and to call up the other companies that caused it and demand my money back. What company would give me money back for a fee a bank decided to charge me without notices, without emails, and the minute my $20 went in there
be for warned do not use skylight they charge fees for just talking to them its bad
I have two pay checks deposited into my skylight account that I can not access! They gave me a temporary pin that I cannot change. I keep getting a code 900 error online when I do try. Then I was supposed to be able to do this by phone, but there is no option to change your pin by phone. Customer service sucks! They keep giving me the same advice over and over again even though I told them their options don't work. So now I have almost $1000 in my account and more on the way with no way to get to it! Yes A shady company indeed. I can't believe my employers, Barnes & Noble work with them! Pretty frustrated here, I'd better cancel my direct deposit and hope that I get my money back soon. Rent is due!
worst ever I promise, terrible customer service, waited over an hour for a supervisor then all of a sudden I was disconnected! F*** this company seriously!
worst customer service ever! run far away from this company!
skylight one sucks...
money taken
I to had a problem with netspend. They closed my account for no reason and it had over 3k still in the account. A friend of mine referred me to this website http://scamattacks.synthasite.com and for a small fee they helped me get my money back.
This net spend all access is pretty much a scam stay away I had received a card with my name on it that I did not request!
NetSpend is the best card I have ever had I will keep them forever NetSpend don't close accounts like that but you can't have multiple accounts with one social security number so you had one in the past and for some reason you buy another one then that is when they close one of the accounts they don't steal your money they are good to people and they try to help by allowing us to get money early a real bank won't do that for you I love you NetSpend keep up the good work
PS. Just in hopes of there being less judgements & accusations tossed around of one another--after all--this is a "complaint board, " I'm posting a link to the article below entitled "FTC Sues Netspend Over Access To Funds, " showing the above comment wasn't by ANY means an isolated incident. So please all, be nice to one another & give the benefit of the doubt with kindness & compassion. It coulda been you! . . .
https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/2016/11/ftc-sues-netspend-over-access-funds
I'm just learning about Netspend, & I see they do have super high fees for those who can't get real credit cards & regular bank accounts, but they also offer the highest interest savings accounts around, thus the perfectly legitimate motivation one might have for using Netspend to hold their savings, even thousands of dollars (for the great high yield APY). What Netspend doesn't communicate well--at least not visibly anywhere online, or by calling an agent--is that their fraud department will lock, suspend, or close accounts without warning if one simply applies or logs into several Netspend card accounts all in one day. Apparently that makes them paranoid that their system i getting abused. In my opinion, that's lame on Netspend's part, & unfair. If they explain those rules up front, no problem. But without advance warning, many folks can easily feel they were shut down for "no reason." And unfortunately, getting access to their own money may be temporarily delayed, if not prevented for longer. Just saying . . . Netspend could do better, & using it apparently comes with some degree of risk.
Netspend doesn't close accounts "for no reason", what were you trying to pull? Money laundering? Fake identity? There has to be a reason.
Sorry to inform you but they do and it happened to me not once but twice on the day i was to ge my direct deposit from work both times. Now you tell me why would someone have their card canceled on the day you get your pay check. There was no reason for Netspend to do this to me. Then they tried to charge me to have it transferred . It cost me a lot of headaches. You have to keep up with everything with Netspend. Green Dot is the best they don't charge you a monthly fee if you have $1000 a month of direct deposit. Plus they wont cancel your card without your permission..
3k? and you're running around with a netspend account?
That makes zero sense to me.
Shouldn't you be at a real bank with that amount of money? And aren't you just shamelessly promoting a website that might also be a scam?
Perhaps you'd like to share your "story?" Although I doubt there's a real one here, because you would have posted it.
lame, get a life.
poor business
Netspend! What ever you do do not use netspend and here is why. I am in the us military and I decided to have my pay deposited to netspend as I had previously had that account before I joined, this is how they treated me. On halloween of o8 I went to an atm on post to get some cash, put the card in and it was to my shock retained by the bank. All my money was on that card. I call netspend after calling the bank that owned the atm in question and netspend informed me that at that particular time that their systems were down so that when the bank that owned the atm tried to request funds from nestspend they received no answer. Hence why my card was retained. Now after calling netspend and learning of their inability to provide any funds and or information to me I was certainly angry and was promptly hung up on by their rep I call again and received the same treatment finally after several attempts I spoke to someone ask for a manager and was told there were none.
Not that they werent available just that they were not there. After several colorful threats I was put on the phone with someone that was said to be important and I demanded a new card. Oh I forgot to mention on the previous calls where I had been rudely hung up on I had also demanded a new card and was told they would send me one but it would cost me 10 dollars.
That of course was unacceptable. Finally after about 2 hours of dealing with theese people I was assured I would not be charged for the new card and that it would arrive in 7-10 days. Granted at this point, now I am for all intents and purposes broke even though I had just gotton paid. That was part 1. Part 2 comes when I call then again on tue nov 11 to confirm that the card was on its way if not allready here I was informed that they had not sent the card because it was an invalid addres its a miltary post, company, battalion etc they had not even attempted to contact me via phone or internet and very smugly proclaimed it was not their problem. So what I had to do was actually go to a local retailer of the cards purchase another one and transfer all funds over which in and of itself was also an hour long nightmare in short if you or anyone you know are thinking about opening an account with netspend do not, and inform as many people as possible to not as well. I am also going to go to the military i. G. To hopefully ban this company from being able to do any military business at al. L get the word out this is a company that simply does not need to exist.
yeah i have netsepnd, ive had them for about 4 years, becasue this check cashing place went throught them. I have had nothing but trouble. They are reluctant to emphasize, have rude caes, and basically want you to use their banking with no incentives. I lost my card after the 3rd year at the beach, i had no money, i mean i was flat broke becasue the card of course had my funds. All i *wanted* being a customer for 3 years, having thousands of dollars in and out with them, was them to ship me a new card priority or overnight, and even charge it to my netspend account. I emailed and called multiple times, they said, there's nothing that can be done, and like the soldier i was hung up on when i demanded a sup of some kind. I work at comcast as a cae, and i understand that u cant get me a sup, but having to wait 7-10 no matter what is just not good customer service.
I totally agree with the soldier, thank you for serving, I have experienced the same thing with this company and another prepaid company that models netspend...its unfortunate that you have to learn all these things about who you bank with after you cant access YOUR MONEY..they make direct deposit soeasy to get and navigating the website is simple all the things that make you comfortable, but i guess some ppl dont know how uncomfortable it is when you just got paid and you cant pay rent or buy gas or food and you have to borrow money not because you dont have money but because your bank doesnt have alternatives to getting you your money in case of emergency or a situation called life. Businesses have gotten so far away from being human and having compassion for one another we dont put ourselves in other ppls situations anymore...since they wont do anything about it, its up to us to learn from it and never direct deposit our funds to scams like these. I bet half ofthem dont even bank with Netspend that work for the company, I wonder how they would feel if they went to dinner and used their card and it was declined, oh by the way the card has plenty of money on it, but the company system is down so you have money but its unavailable...thats what happened to me at a birthday party at a resturant i was buying my food, my parents and my grandmas, bill was over $100 and i had to take up a collection...then when i called the bank and ask why had i not been contacted I was informed that calling me is a courtesy and not mandatory, mind you when i left the resturant i didnt have much gas was gonna wait until i left the party to get ithad to borrow from my friends, it was just embarrassing, i was supposed to go by the atm and get my part of the money for the cake and i couldnt get it, so when i called in they wanted me to verify purchases i had made and i lived in one city and worked in another (5 minutes away) they also believed my phone had fraudulent activity. Long story short the card was deactivated and sent me a new one had to wait more days for a card. Mind you when i first got the card i didnt set up direct deposit on it until i had it for like a month, so the first week i got paid my check was saying it was pending, then on pay day $0.00 I called to see what was going on they said they didnt see a deposit? I was on hold forever, then was told a manager would call me back...finally got the call and was told the check was sent back because the card had been inactive, i said so the check was showing pending for 5 days and no one called me to say it wouldnt deposit or go ahead and deposit it anyway! I was told it was my fault because i let the card go inactive, , I told the man obviously i thought it was active if i put my check on it right? Anyway, so lesson learned..Its not about whos fault it is or was its about when you bank with a company you want to trust in them that in any situation they will treat you ike a human being and have alternatives to assist you when life happens. How you were treated was awful and i dont think you were trying to blame anybody, i thinkyou just wanted to know that the ppl you trusted your money with would be able to help you.
if lost or stolen card u have to pay but when i got my new card when it expired 3 yrs they did not charge me
Unfortunately, your card being retained was done so by the atm, not netspend.
So, technically netspend doesn't have to issue a new card free of charge. Can they? Should they? Absolutely, it'd be great customer service and make you a bit happier in your situation.
Getting hung up on sucks but from working in a call center, sometimes it does happen. I can't talk for sure, maybe they were just jerks and didn't want to listen. Also, supervisors aren't sometimes readily available, I had to call a few people back or put them on hold sometimes for two hours to get them a more accurate response.
As for the next problem, providing a valid physical address is up to you. I can't help but think that would have caused your situation to go smoother.
Thanks for what you do for the country, but I'm not willing to say that you helped your situation out any. I'd complain to the atm more than netspend over this one . . .
keeps texting my cell and im angry
Yes I keep gettin damn text messenges sent to my phone from this company I don't even a have a credit card through. The texts needs to stop immediatley or u can start paying my monthly cell bill for receiving text I don't need and didn't sign up for. Thk u and have a nice day!
And I did not even enable this stuff, I got it with my new phone number...
I texted stop and unsubscribe and neither of this worked. I still get this stupid texts. Please make it stop...
Like any of the SMSMMS alert services, they only send alerts if you enable it by logging on to your account or by texting BAL to their short number (I think it's 22622). Also, they are required to stop these if you reply to the message with STOP. It worked for me, give it a try...
i'm with that other guy netspend keeps texting my cell phone i dont have a texting plan its 10 cents to recieve texts on my phone and sometimes i get up to 10 from them a day! thats sick in a month i had to pay over 30 dollars worth of texts from guess who netspend you can believe that they will be getting a bill from me and if they dont pay it they will be hearing from my lawyer!

On 10/1/2008 I was charged by one great family for something I never signed up for. I immediately contacted one great family, and steve told me he was reversing the charges, I setup a 3 way call, and spoke with a representative in order to have the authorization released, and they requested a fax on company letterhead stating that they were not taking the money, and with the representative from netspend and me on the line, he sent the fax.
Netspend said it would be 24 hours before the money was released, they never released the money.
I then called netspend again on 10/2/08 and inquired about the fax, and they claimed to never have received, so I called one great family again and reached steve again. He told me he would refax the letter.
I gave it another 24 hours.
Just got off the phone, on 3way with netspend and one great family again, netspend is telling me they collected on the charge, one great family is saying they never collected on it. When I asked netspend to release the funds back into the account because I am on social security disability and needed this money so that I can get my bus pass so I can go to doctors appointments, I was told that they were sorry, but there was nothing they can do, that I was "### out of luck" until the refund cleared, so now i'm being charged $400.00 for a doctors appointment that would've only cost me maybe $75.00 because these jerks don't want to do their god damned jobs.
We need to get together and sue these ### and put them out of business.
You need to look in to pre-paid legal services it is very inexpensive to sign up for and you can cancell at anytime without penalty. . .I believe the services are around 10 per month. They will go to bat for you and you will not have to pay anything up from because you are paying monthly. That is a shame that these credit card companies think they can do what they want to do. . .also when you contact prepaid legal discuss with them you having Netspend be liable for the fee and your inconvinience! I am telling you this would serve them right.
Anyway, God bless and I am glad that I googled complaints on this company I was just about to register my card and have money transfered to it.
You can good pre-paid legal in your area. I wish you the best, and your blog did do something because it cost them a customer and I am sure that many others will not use them because of you speaking out.
Also, I am not sure where you live, but in NY they have a news channel reporter that goes after people for free for you and exposes them on tv and they will follow up with them and keep airing it until your issue is resolved. The shows are Arnold Diaz "Shame on You", and 7 on your side. You can go the the website and click on the link and if I were you I would tell them my story because you dont know who else called and complained! Then I would also contact Netspend and tell then that you are going to the news with this scam because they bambozzled you and cost you to spend uneccesary money and you are sure that there are others with complaints. You can all go to the Better Business Bureau and fill out a complaint on line they too will reach out to the company for you. . .tell Netspend you are going to file a complaint. . .they wont want that because every time someone looks there to check them out they will see your complaint it never goes away!
I wish you the best!
God Bless KAM
fraud
A year ago I had a netspend account but lost the card when I went overseas to iraq. My card was fraudulently used and so I reported it. I never heard anything from netspend about my claim but since it was only $100, I just left well enough alone. Today I opened a another netspend account and put $2, 000 on the card. When I went to use the card they declined all my purchases and when I called to inquire, they told me because of fraudulent activity on the previous account, I was no longer able to have a netspend card. Further, the new account that I just opened would be unusable and the $2, 000 I used to open the account would be sent to me after 20 business days! That $2, 000 was my entire paycheck! How am I supposed to pay my rent, feed my children, or take care of medical bills for the next month while they play with my money. More importantly, if the company decided they didn't want me to have an account, why didn't they decline my application for the card instead of charging me $10.00 for the card and then keeping the other $2, 000?
NetSpend commercials insult my intelligence. You got these poor people acting like they'll have more money somehow by using a NetSpend card? Oh you get your money on Wednesday instead of Friday. Bottom line - you get the same amount of money on a different day. A company without a conscience.
our tax preparer chose this company and it makes me question if we will use them again!...The NETSPEND company SUCKS! No one gives you the same answer twice...i was told i could transfer all my funds after i never recieved my first card...NOT TRUE...then i can transfer 1000 a day...NOPE! WRONG!...3500 in a seven day period!...ITS MY MONEY!...And NO ONE SPEAKS ENGLISH!...If you want to work for NETSPEND please apply in CHINA!
scam and cheating
If u folks have a good credit line you losers, u wouldn't even have to get a DEBIT CARD! Y r u blaming the reps when they are just ###ing doing their jobs?! Do you think that if they have a choice, they would work their ### off when its 3AM their time and they get screamed out by u ###s when they could get a morning job and just like regular people, sleep when its bedtime? They do talk to u stupid ### (who don't even know what mother's maiden name is) bec that is their job! If u people even know how to do simple math, these companies wouldn't even have to go out of the US to get employees! And these F*CKIN policies that these reps have to comply on, do you think that they and not their BOSSES in the US were the ones who set that up? Think abt it, stupid [censored]es..!
I have pretty much been ripped off by day pay staffing for a promotion in July 27, 16 telling me invest what I want which is usually $995.00 but I gave $199.00 to give it a try from a girl named Shirleen Evans. I have not received a card, No return calls, No E-mails, NOTHING. She was supposed to give me 500 contacts that if they also came in I would get $20.00 each.. All lies, no deals I have been late on payments which I never do hoping to receive my card and start earning something but as I said absolutely NOTHING except for getting ripped off for $199.00. Where are all the cyber Lawyers? This has been rude, very unprofessional and a $@&%!($ SCAM!
These lost my direct deposit and their message repeats over and over again, forget about speaking to someone live, this is indeed a bogus company that is itching for a huge lawsuit and I want to be front row!
Agree i think that if you have no personal experience with the card company then you should shut up.. I for one had very good credit never needed a prepaid anything until some low life stole my identity in illinois and i lived in iowa so i have been left to clean up the mess i have been a netspend customer for over 8 years and two months ago the company allowed a merchant to charge, me 1, 868 for charges that i never authorized in addition to that netspend never set up my text message alerts, or emails alerts after calling them over 22 times in the last 37 days a week before they should have my money refunded they closed my account and no one knows why i am not in a position to take that kind of a loss i have 3 children to support and i work hard to keep our heads above water i want my money back and i will not stop until i get it.. I never received any notice about my account being closed at all.. This is an attempt to play shady games and not fix the problem on there end and i am the wrong person to that to my children and i have been homless and i was abused for 4 years of my life and getting my life back on track is the one thing i must do and netspend is slowing me down i will stop at nothing until my funds are returned the rich and powerful have enough they wont keep my money and write me off and i dont care about the opinions of you other people who have no clue what it is like so shut up.. I have been trying to reach mr. Chuck harris president of netspend no surprise that no one cares to respond... I will be moving fwd in my fight to get my money back...
Netspend this is your last day to return my money that is owed to me from my tax refund which was deposited (No fault of the irs) on one of your cards and you let a fraudulent transfer go through when i had just called you and told you i had not received a card! How would i make a transfer when i had not yet even received a card? Was told to call back on the 14th (Today) and they would know something. Called as soon as i got up guess what? They still have no answer for me! Was told i would definitely receive a callback today. Might i also add that i finally received their worthless card (Since my money has already been stolen off of it) but when i called the rep asked if i was referring to the card that they sent or the card i purchased at 7-11? What? I never purchased a card from 7-11... Seems like the person who stole my money is still attempting to steal from me! Unbelievable netspend. Will it ever end? Oh yeah i bet it will when i don't get my money returned and sue for much more. I would not recommend this company to anyone who wants to actually receive their tax refund.
How can I even speak to an actual human at netspend?
Net spend are a bunch of liars and cheaters. They need to fire all there reps and start over. They must have a training program that teaches their reps to be void of any emotion and decency. There investigation department is run by children and the use of a Sherlock Holmes magnifying glass is probably all they use. They still owe me a credit of $200 that someone else charged on my card ($100 on day after another) to reload a Starbucks card on line) As I only used virtual numbers that where closed every couple of days it wouldn't be very hard to see what merchant this number was used at and they would have found the online company who's employee stole my info! But I suppose its just too hard for them to press a few keys on the key board. Anyone who sticks up for them must be one of their ignorant employee's. Net Spend is ### on my shoe.
I recently just had my IRS refund direct deposited on my netspend card. The day it was suppose to be loaded, I checked my account and the money wasn't there. When I called to speak to someone about it, they told me because of the amount of the refund it was subject to verification. I was assured the money would be released in 4 hours. After the 4 hours needless to say the money still was not released. I called back and they said that I had to fax in a copy of my paycheck stub! What type of verification process is that! I faxed it in anyway and was assured that as soon as they received my paperwork they would release my money. After an additional 2 hours, I called back and the claimed that they haven't received the fax yet. They say that they receive the faxes by batch and it could take 6 to 8 hours for them to receive it. The next day my money still was not released and nobody had any answers why. After being on hold for an hour and 12 minutes, I was informed that the deposit was sent back because they couldn't verify anything. I was disgusted and disappointed. I had to wait 2 weeks for the refund to get back to the IRS and another 2 weeks for them to send it to me in check form. I quickly closed my account with netspend after that and encourage all who are netspend customers to do the same!
And what's with the 'f' word, did you have a bad night. You probably don't want to reflect yourself online in this manner. I recognize that I tripped over this and your post is dated 2008. Maybe you're unemployed now and resorted to a prepaid debit card. If that's the case, sorry.
Ahhh Maria. Good luck to you girl.
Netspend customer service is the major problem. This is a prepaid card for crying out loud. I'm not charging anything. It's my cash. I read every stinkin small print before i bought one of these things. Yes, it's embarassing to resort to such a move but i'm not going to go there, here. I've been misinformed by reps sohhh many times, put money on there (Few thous a few weeks ago) and couldn't access it. The samll print in agreement notes does not tell all. Reps are outsourced, which annoys the heck out of me right off the bat, but if they know what they're talking about, i could harbor a bit more confidence. Right now, i have very little respect or confidence. It's only been about 4 weeks since i purchased this card and it's been downhill all the way. I purchased it to travel with. To the smart a— who commented about losers who need to purchase a prepaid card, "go to bed, sleep it off. And when you wake up in the morning (Afternoon or whatever you're unusual schedule might be) be thankful you can feel so cocky, but do not pass judgement. I suggest you keep your condescending remarks to yourself. Cocky only works until something happens in your life that can present an awkwardly humbling experience.
fraud charges
I added money to my netspend card 50.00 dollars got home went to the netspend website and tracked my spending. I just added 50.00 dollars, but it said in the transaction history 49.00 a transaction fee of a dollar on top of the 53.95 i had to pay to put money on the card i made no purchase just added money to the card. I called netspend they said it was a dollar transaction fee, but i made no purchase the customer service person barley spoke english, then got upset when i asked for someone that spoke english. Everytime i put money on my card i never got the full amount. It was always a dollar short netspend would not give me a refund and still says it's because of purchases i made, which is [censored] so what i did. I used all the money on my card and never reloaded if you add money to your netspend card check your transaction history everytime you load the card or buy something netspend will get you if you don't watch it! Also the refer a friend and get 5 bucks it's never been that easy for me i had to fight with customer service to get credit for every person i referred. I referred all of my friends there has to be something done about netspend someone file a lawsuit and lets all rejoice in all the money that they owe us!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer's satisfaction.
Well on 9/10/17, I attempted to sign on to my Netspend account. It said it was temporarily locked and I needed to contact customer service . I called them and they said netspend decided to close my account . They couldn't tell me why. They informed me my money would be sent by check within 10 days. Today, 9/21/17, I call to see if a check has been issued. I was on hold for 15 minutes and was told my money is being sent to social security! I asked why and she said they requested it. Told her I wanted to see the letter from SS, she said they couldn't do that. I threatened them that I would have a lawyer contact them but I don't even know what type of lawyer to talk to. Anyone gone through anything like this?

If you're completely frustrated with your experience with a Netspend prepaid debit card and don't know what to do, PLEASE READ THIS POST! I am not affiliated with Netspend. If you're tired of getting the runaround and nowhere using 1-86NETSPEND or feedback@netspend.com, then use these telephone numbers to talk to personnel at Netspend Corporate headquarters. [protected] ext 8780 or [protected] between 8:00am-5:00pm Central Time(US). You will most likely get a voicemail, however, it is key to leave a professional sounding message with your return number. My girlfriend had her tax refund put on a Netspend Premier Visa Prepaid Debit Card, and they blocked her account after she used it. I found these phone numbers after days of internet research. They called her back, had her electronically(email) send the requested personal information, and after she confirmed Netspend received it, they lifted the block on her account. We immediately went to the nearest bank and withdrew all of her money from the card. She closed her Netspend account and cutup the card. So, there is still hope for everybody experiencing the same frustration. Please feel free to share this post or the corporate phone numbers I've provided!
gift card scam
I received a "gift ATM" card from a family member for $50. I called to activate the card and was told I needed to accept their credit card. They took my Social Security number. The "gift card" was purchased at Albertson's for $9.95. When I received the credit card, I went to my bank and used the ATM machine. I was charged $0.50 for a balance inquiry, $1.50 ATM fee (my bank), $2.00 ATM fee (NetSpend) to withdraw $40.00. Most ATM machines only provide $20.00 bills. So now there is $6.00 left.
I called NetSpend and requested the card to be canceled and the $6.00 sent to me. I was told that they could not do that but I could use an ATM to withdraw the $6.00 for a fee of $2.00. What a ripoff! So this gift of $50.00 turned out to be $40.00 which cost $19.95!
Don't give a Netspend gift ATM. It will cost you dearly.
The fact is, companies, such as Speedway do indeed give out Netspend cards as giftcards, as rewards for earning points by shopping there. So whether you say it's intended to be one or not, if major corporations are giving them as gifts to customers, yes it is indeed a gift card. At first glance, a $25 Netspend card seems like a better gift choice than the $25 Applebee's card (for example). Many people would rather have the option to do what they want with $25 than only be able to use the money at one restaraunt chain.
I'm glad I googled Netspend and from reading Kay's post regarding hidden fees, I will steer clear of it!
Also, don't you think it's a little low trashing her (completely unprovoked) for having a father who's an attorney? Jealous?
Wow, are you serious?
Netspend was never intended to be used as a giftcard. They are certainly NOT gift cards, they are debit cards that can be used as credit cards and function as such.
Visa sells their own gift cards and they do not require personal information of any sort nor a name to be used (although an activation fee is usually paid for by the gifter to make the card able to be used) - They also zero out and you can check your balance online for free. They also come in pre determined money amounts.
Obviously, lawyer daddy didn't teach his daughter to recognize a gift card from a debit card.
Always be aware of what you're using, what you're getting, and what it is. Reading fine print is a great tool, also, maybe drop the gifter a hint that they mislead you and might have accidentally picked up the wrong thing. Obviously they meant well.
It does suck, costly lesson, but anything that requires personal information? Is defintelly not a gift card and something completely different all together.
Also, cancelling the card online would have been a lot better for you, poster #2, you would have received actual confirmation of the account closing.
I had a similar experience. It is a rip off service. On top of this, they seem to scam customers wanting to cancel their card. Oncde I caught on to how this gift card worked, I decided to use the balance $$ at a local gas station, and then call to cancel it on this same day. Having carefully left a small positive balance, the Netspend representative told me that the card would automatically cancel once the balance went to zero. Not so! I have been now notified by Netspend that I have a negative balance due to monthly fees. I refuse to pay it, and will have my lawyer father handle it. Dont let this happen to you. Note that a Netspend gift card requires you provide them your personal information before you can use it. The gift is not worth it. Take cash!
Well yeah, I mean ALL gift cards are like that. Next time you get a gift card try to cash it at the grocery store you bought it from or buy something off the internet so you get your full $50 value. Don't go to an ATM to convert it to cash! Silly.
