what a lemon!
Purchased a Maytag Top Loader model # FAV6800AWW serial # 11509522Ej In Aug 2004, Have had 8 service calls for this machine . Luckily I Purchased a extended Warranty from Maytag Dependability Plus (what a Joke) . It is pretty frustrating when you call and must wait 2 -3 days for someone to call you to tell you that they can schedule the repairman to come in 2 weeks. I have had 2 Mother Boards replaced and numerous left and right cover locks. Now I have been getting a Lr message rotor locked. I thought I had purchase a Lemon but after reading these complaints I am not alone. The machine sounds like a jet engine when it spins. Is there a class action suit in the works for this models or do we need to start one. One would thing that if we acted together we might be heard. Would love to hear from others about their problems.
poor quality product!
I bought a Maytag Neptune Front Load washer Model# MAH8700AWW in May of 2006 for $913.00, it is September 13, 2007 and I am having to pay $409.40 (Parts, shipping, labor and taxes) to replace the control board and the door lock assembly. (The washer stopped mid cyle and the door would not open.) The control board burned up and damaged the door lock assembly.
I called Maytag and was told that my washer only had a 1 year warranty and that expired and that Maytag does not offer an extended warranty for this washer. (Wonder why? Hmmm) After going through the entire spill about that I paid $913.00 for the washer in May of 2006 and that it is ridiculous that I am having to pay to have something so expensive replaced. (The control board is $375.00, the door assembly is $99.00.) They offered me a 6 month service contract, which would pay for the repair if the same thing happened again, after I paid for the repair. I then told them that was not sufficient so they offered me a 1 year service contract. Again, what good would that do me if the control board burns up again 15 months later. I then asked if they could at least pay 50% of the repair costs and after some time they agreed to give me a 50% discount on parts, which I had to order and have delivered to my house. I took that after realizing that was the best I was going to get. Without that discount I would have had to pay $634.38 for the repair which is over half of what I paid for the washing machine in the first place.
I would not ever suggest that you buy a Maytag anything! They obviously do not stand behind there products, but then again when their products are made in other countries I guess it's stands to reason.! (My washer was made in Korea by LG!)
I own the same Maytag Neptune washer bought in 2006 its not 2016. 9 years we loved this machine. No problems ever. Within the last year however, I have extracted coins from the pump 4 times. The second time they broke the impellers off the pump. The pump being jammed up burnt the control board. New control board on eBay $79.00. New Pump on eBay $34.00. But since then I've gotten the "nd" (Not Draining) error code twice and have found coins in the pump. My question is why 9 years with no coins in the pump and now all of a sudden 4 times in one year?
Is there a filter that has been catching the coins or keeping them in the drum that had gone bad? in those first nine years we did periodically find coins in the drum but none that had passed through to the pump. Any insight here would be helpful! Still love the machine BTW!
I unfortunately have this washer as well... about every couple months the washer will not drain and every couple months, my husband takes it apart to extract the coins from the pump. This is despite our efforts to ensure there are no coins in our pockets. Insanity! We keep a shop vac permanently in the laundry room because the repairs are so frequent. These were not inexpensive so we've been living with it for about 6 years now. Not sure what we'll do when we finally break down and replace -- I'm certain we wont buy Maytag or Whirlpool.. I do understand Maytag was in transition however Whirlpool should have done something here. Aren't most of the appliances the same manufacturer for the most part? Whirlpool/LG/Maytag/Kenmore? Not sure about GE & Samsung. Guess I need to do my homework a little better next time around.
Am I the only one who doesn't have a complaint? I purchased my Neptune Washer and Dryer in 2006 too but I LOVE MINE! I have not had ANY major issues with either one them. Sure, I replaced a pumped in mine because one of my husbands guitar picks chewed up the fins, but really that's my fault. I heard something clunking around in the pump but didn't get to it quick enough. Took me a total of 10 minutes to replace. Now, if I hear something clunking around in there, I take the 5 minutes out of my time to get it out of there?! I am getting an E3 code now. I wouldn't doubt the motor is bad. 8 yrs of doing laundry every other day...sometimes heavy loads...well that happens. You have to take into consideration, just as with the motor or transmission in your car...if you are constantly towing heavy things behind it, eventually your transmission or motor may go. ESPECIALLY without normal maintenance. I just purchased a motor for it...sure, it isn't cheap but I know how to turn a wrench, so I will be installing the new one myself. NOTHING is made like it used to be! HELL! My mother had a Maytag washing machine for 25 yrs with no issues. NOTHING is quality made anymore...I don't care if you paid $5000 for your washer and dryer...you will eventually have an issue or two with it.
WE HAVE A MAYTAG MAH8700 AND HAVE HAD IT FOR SEVERAL YEARS. IT WAS ONE OF THE RECALLED WASHERS A FEW YEARS AGO AND THEY SENT US THE REPLACEMENT PART. HAVEN'T HAD AN ISSUE UNTIL LAST NIGHT. IT STARTED MAKING THIS HORRIBLE NOISE. WE GOT UP TO SEE WHY IT WAS MAKING THE NOISE. IT SMELLED LIKE MY HOUSE WAS ON FIRE. WE STOPPED THE MACHINE AND UPON OPENING THE DOOR, SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF IT. THIS WAS SO SCARY! IT IS SHOT! I WILL NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER MAYTAG PRODUCT. I AM SO THANKFUL WE WERE HOME AND MY HOUSE DID NOT BURN DOWN!
I read these comments and wonder it just re-enforces my belief that it is always a good idea to consult Consumer' Reports for reliability data and recommendations for any purchase over $200.I bought one of these washers second hand, and am taking it apart to fix a washer that fills the house with smoke and a burnt rubber smell, and a "noisy" machine. What I find is a torn door seal, abraded plastic tub lip, one of the 3 pump fins broken, bad tub bearings (the likely cause of the damaged door seal, and abraded tub lip). The door seal is $75-$100, , apparently one cant buy a new impeller for the pump but must buy the whole pump assembly with motor and mounting base for $100...
Maytag has really done their reputation irreparable damage. I will not purchase any Maytag products going forward. I vote with my money, and corporate business practices embracing outsourcing with no concern for the people that depend on US jobs to raise their families, and on top of that, produce garbage that we get to spend our reduced incomes on. For shame Whirlpool.,
I bought this washer and paid 1110.00 for it. Worst purchase I have ever made! Coins break the fins on the water pump. I continuously check all pockets, but it seems that somehow I miss a coin! We have had 5 pumps on this washer! 2 or 3 of the pumps was under the extended warrant. We have purchased two pumps after warranty! Is there not something to catch a coin prior to reaching the pump?
I have been repairing appliances for 25 yrs, 14 of them as a "maytag Man" I am qualified to say that if you own a model MAH8700 & have a problem with it, don't even waste 85.00 on a diagnosis. Scrap it. This machine went from the drawing board to retail with no testing & the consequences were immediate. Maytag wouldn't "stand by" it because they were in their dying throes when it came out. (Samsung built it in Korea in it's entirety) and Whirlpool (the company that bought out Maytag) wants nothing to do with it. Neither do service technicians. The E3 error so common to this machine is virtually impossible to isolate without part swapping. The culprits in this case cost about $300.00 each and have about a 50% chance each of being the problem. If the technician is wrong, he eats the cost and it winds up costing him money to fix YOUR machine. For that reason, I will not touch one of these things except to clean out a drain pump or replace the tub boot.
Purchased Maytag Neptune Model PMAH8700AWW back in 2007. Paid over $1000 back then and thought that I would not have to call the repairman for many years. Well it has only been 6 years and the "mother board" is broke. The repairman cannot even get the part as they are "out of stock." The cost to repair would be and additional $555.00. The fact that the part is out of stock, what does that tell ya? I am throwing in the towel and going to purchasing another washer and another brand! P.S. repairman said that this model had recalls and numerous complaints and from what I am reading on the internet, he is telling the truth. Very disappointed with this purchase!
I have the same issues with the E3 error - the repairs were going to cost in excess of $600, and that may not include the cost of a new board - another $300! Can anyone tell me if there is a class action suit or a push for a recall so we can get reimbursed for repairs? I am mad, this is crazy. The vibration issues is another problem, sounds like Maytag owes us all a new washer.
Hate my Maytag Neptune MAH8700- it vibrates all over the floor, could never use max extract(it probably would have came unplugged, I have the second computer board going on it, they think :.. won't spin out hardly at all, clothes come out soaking and some loads run for 3-4 hrs before its done(clothes still wet).. $300 to replace board, but dont even know if that includes labor(probably not), I have had this machine for 7yrs. Was told maytag was made by samsung for a couple years and that is the problem..Why didn't they recall them then?! These machines were not cheap! I don't even want to stick money into repairs, I just want it gone... going back to top load!
poor service!
I have written letters as well as emails and have not gotten a response from anyone. I decided to call but after being given about 8 different phone #s, no one was able to help. I am certain that I am disconnected by design. In utter frustration now, should I contact my lawyer? The problem is that my clothes smell moldy after ashing. I also complained about the rubber lining being mildewed and has worn thin ans so it can burst at any time. I suffer with asthma triggered by allergies, so this has become a major health issue for me. I have been told that I should use bleach, but we are on a septic system and do not use bleach.
Thanks.
we need a class action lawsuit
Maytag atlantis washing machine. Lemon. Company and place that we bought it won't do anything.
This is the worst washer I ever owned. This is used 6 months a year and is only six years old. I
called a repair service today and they said I needed a new transmission. The warranty books says they cover transmissions for ten years. Will Maytag stand behind their warranty?
We bought the Maytag Atlantis in 2002 thinking that we were making a sound investment. What a crock! The stinkin thing makes a wretched screaching noise at the end of every spin and most of the time I have to run a second spin to drain out the water! We have had repairmen out over the years and now the worthless machine wont get any stains or dirt out of the clothing! Worst purchase ever! I agree that the Maytag Company should be held accountable!
We bought our atlantis washer MAV7700AAW in 2002. In the 1st year alone the repairman was out at least 6 times. Have had on going issues~ leaky water, or not dry enouph over the yeaars. Now making a loud ungodly scraping sound during wash, and spin cycles with no agigtation. I have even went through the BBB when this started because I wanted it replaced with NO help. Yes there needs to be a suit brought against maytag corp for ignoring these matters. They aren't built to last like they used to. I'm in! Drake4us@yahoo.com. how much do think I could make parting it out?
I agree. Worst washing machine EVER. Bought this crapper 5 years ago, have had the transmission replaced, springs replaced, snubber replaced. It goes out of balance on almost every load, have to continually move clothes around to get it to spin correctly. Now, the transmission is out again, a year after getting it replaced. I paid $900 for this thing and Maytag refuses to fix it. Waste of money. I will NEVER buy a Maytag again.
Worst washing machine I have ever bought. The Maytag Atlantis, purchased in 2002, has been a royal pain from day one. I went rounds with Maytag repair men twice when it was new and was told it was my fault for not loading my machine properly. I wanted to tell them off but refrained from doing so. I have had three other washers in my fifty years of marriage and never had trouble loading clothes properly. This machine does not rinse well, bounces and goes off balance, and clothes are still wet after they have gone through the spin cycle. I am putting my clothes through a second spin cycle and they are still wet. If I could afford another washer and dryer the Maytag would be put out for trash day. Don't buy a Maytag!
I have an Atlantis also 3.5 years old spent upwards of $700 same problems I am disgusted with what I am reading. and hopeful that a class action lawsuit comes of it all.
I have an Atlantis washing machine and it doesn't spin out either. Also, it makes this horrible sound ands walks from the walls.
I'm in!
Our Atlantis is 4 years old and we've had the transmission and motor replaced, and less then 1 mo. after the repair, It wont spin at all! They have the worst customer service ever, I wrote to complain . They replied saying ," We work diligently to make quality products that last, unfortunately we cannot guarantee that the unit will never fail throughout its lifetime". And are not willing to help cover any of the service fees we've incurred. Let alone that all my clothes now have holes, from the crazy spin cycle! I cannot afford to keep this money pit of a washer!
not living up to contract
Called in Juli about a broken dishwasher, had to wait 3 weeks for service. Technisian came 3 hours late, I lost 7 hours of work. He said the damage was not covered and wanted me to buy parts. I refused. he called company and suddenly it was covered. He did not have parts and rescheduled for 2 weeks later. The day of no one showed up, another loss of work 4 hours. I called the service company and the said he was sick they said the called the house and they did not. I'd like to cancel the service, it's useless!
L2type ###. Probably a ###in spick.
am a maytag Dependability plus dealer, and I can attest to all the complaints that are posted on this board. We have had countless bad experiences with them, and we would NOT recommend them to anyone for ANYTHING! THey have HORRIBLE customer service, and EVEN worse repair service.
terrible service!
My issue as seen below is not only with the failure of the transmission on my 3.5 year old maytag but the lack of service provided by Maytag dependability plus and Metro Factory Service in Dover, NJ. I had to wait for TWO weeks before the Maytag authorized service provider Metro Factory Service could look at the machine and then waited an additional 3.5 weeks for Metro Factory Service to obtain a transmission and come to fix it. When the washer failed mid cycle I bailed out all the water that I could but there is standing water remaining that has mildewed causing my whole house to SMELL! Following is the timeline so far... you tell me if this is quality Maytag service.
July 30... washer failed.
July 1... called Maytag Dependability Plus and opened claim.
July 12... Metro Factory Service person came and spent 5 minutes looking at washer. Gave me a work order that says "found bad transmission and ordered 1 transmission gear" He said they would call in three to five days.
After many calls to Maytag Dependability Plus... Metro Service called and said the soonest they could come was. AUGUST 6!
Metro Factory Service arrived August 6 to install new transmission. Repair person looked at washer and said that he thinks that the tech that was sent to diagnose the problem was wrong but since his work order says to install a transmission then that is what he will do. New transmission installed... washer still does not work... it is the motor that is bad. No motor on truck. Has to order one. Metro calls to make next appointment for...
AUGUST 16... it has now been over 5 WEEKS and I still have no washer.
I called Maytag and they were willing to send a new motor overnight to Metro Factory Service but when Maytag called Metro they refused saying that they could not install it until the 16 anyway. I then called Metro to ask for earlier service because it was their misdiagnoses that caused this and they said they would put me on "the list" that I am sure does not exist for warranty people. They also told me that the original tech is no longer with the company and the service man who put the new transmission in told me it was his last day of work for Metro Factory Service.
Now Maytag Dependability Plus has paid for a new transmission that was not necessary and proved by their actions that they have no control over the companies that they contract with. I will now wait until the 16th and hope for the best. I am not optimistic but hopefully this problem will finally be fixed and I will not ever have to speak to Maytag Dependability Plus or Metro Factory Service again. I would rather pay a reliable, honest service person to fix my appliances than ever use Maytag Dependability Plus again. Also as a paying customer I would NEVER consider using METRO FACTORY SERVICE!
In closing I have just one more statement… YOU SHOULD ALL BE ASHAMED OF YOUR SERVICE!
I could write a short novel on all the problems i've had with metro factory service, so i won't bore you with the details. The end story is they are horrible, and best i could tell they steal $ from PC richards by coming to perform "service calls" which include a 30 second, "yep, it's broke, but i can't fix w/o parts" so they always have to reschedule 2-3 times until appliance gets fixed. even though you tell them when scheduling appt via pc richard, i need this part please have them come with it, etc; but they always claim they did not receive and they won't do anything that isn't on their pink piece of paper. To call and complain is a total waste of time and does nothing but cause you huge grief and anxiety.
not qualified service
I have a Maytag washer and the warranty service sent out A&E. He was not qualified and couldn't even see which fuse in the box needed flipping -- I also had to come to the basement 2 times to reset the red/black button on the outlet as he couldn't figure it out. When I called Maytag Dependability Plus they had no record of sending out A&E. Needless to say I still need my washer fixed.
My saga with Maytag has lasted for about a month now. When I first called Maytag, they made me wait a week to get a repair person to the house. Then the folks from A&E showed up. A&E stated that I need a part and since, they do since they do not carry parts for Maytag... they would have to order it. The part took three weeks to arrive.
After waiting three weeks, A&E returned only to tell me that "I needed more parts". Apparently the first technician didn't even know how to diagnose the problem. The problem was with the compressor. Now, I am no expert when it comes to refrigerator repair. But the idiots at A&E don't even know how to check the most fundamental part on a refrigerator. So, now I am waiting another two weeks for a compressor. The Maytag dependability plus program is a total sham. You may as well, keep your money and find a repair shop that actually knows what they are doing.
Can't agree with you more. A&E Sucks. Unqualified "technicians" I can do better myself.
poor quality!
I recently (2 years) replaced my Maytag washer after 22 years of usage. I bought a new Maytag washer at Home Depot. All of a sudden it started making a loud knocking noise. After calling the repair man and he not even needing to look under it practically told me the transmission was out. Several other parts will have to be replaced also in the tune of over $200.00. I also found out that it really isn't even a Maytag washer, just bears the name. I believe it was a Amana which Maytag just bought out and has since been bought by Whirlpool. Wow, we all might need to check to see what product we are really buying these days.
very poor product quality!
Came home to a flashing panel and flapping ice door! Also no cooling in refrigerator. Refrigerator only 13 months old ! Called Maytag, 8 days until repairman can be sent, " Sounds like the main control board." Great ! No refrigerator! And a very annoying flapping everytime the compressor comes on ! Freezer still works!

Two capacitors on the main board located in the BACK of the refrigerator are defective. I went to Radio shack, bought two new ones, soldered them in, and am back in business. KNOWN issue with maytag, defective capacitors on boards manufactured before june 06... new capacitors are 3 bucks, a new main board is $185 online !
not honoring class action settlement!
Please do not buy a Neptune or any other Maytag branded appliance. My frontloader machine was part of the class action settlement back in 2004 and we never received notice of it and therefore could not receive compensation. The Neptune settlement hotline: [protected] was not helpful and claim that I probably received the form in the mail and did not know what it is. So, not only did I not receive the form, they insult my intelligence by saying I received it and did not know what it was.
All they need to do was replace a rubber seal to get rid of the mildew problem and yet they can't do that at their expense. Needless to say, I am never buying a Maytag again and urge everyone else to do the same. Let's rise up against these terrible corporations!
In 2007 bought maytag centennial and the panel board quit performing. I had to manually move it to the next position. My husband repaired and it worked for a little longer. Finally got rid of it in 2010. I did not give up on Maytag product I guess I am a fool for name brand product. We purchased Bravo series Maytag washer in 2010 and it was a peice of junk. I immediately started complaining about sound it made. My husband told me that is the way it sounds. It continued to get louder and louder until he finally gave it up and took the whole thing apart. The bearing in the tub area had gone out but you could not buy bearing had to buy the whole tub $300.00 added to the original cost of $880.00 dollars made me sick. It now has gone out again! I did not mention the horrible smell it continued to have on a regular basis. This is a real problem for consumers and very costly. I just purchased another washing machine yesterday GE brand but I have read all over internet problems with every brand of washing machines on market in US. This is totally unacceptable to rip off the American consumers and needs to be addressed.
i'll never buy another maytag product!
I purchased a Performa washer and dryer in October of 2006. From the beginning, it clatters and dances across the floor as if the load was out of balance, but the clothes have not shifted. This machine does a good job of getting my clothes clean, but it shakes the house! I thought that the quality would be better than this - it is made by Maytag, but I was wrong. I'll never buy another Maytag product. I should have purchased the Whirlpool...
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
My Maytag Performa has been dancing off it's concrete pedestal and knocking my sink to pieces. I was blaming everyone in the household who used it since I bought the thing, but it did the same thing when I finally used it. This washing machine is a piece of crap. It's no good if you have to baby sit it all time. It most definitely has an inherent load balancing problem. Just one shirt will make it dance silly. Everyone has told me that Maytag makes a bad washer and that I should not have bought one. Sure now they tell me.
Hello Washer Duties. My name is Amber and I am a representative with Maytag. We apologize about the frustration you have experienced with your washer. If you would like us to look into this further, please provide your name, the name of the site you were contacted on (ComplaintsBoard), your user ID name (Washer Duties), your phone number, your address, your ticket number (29777), the model and serial numbers, and email the requested information to Maytag.Digital@whirlpool.com. We would be happy to review your concerns further. Sincerely, Amber.
I FOLLOWED YOUR LINK AND SEARCHED WASHERS AND TOP LOADERS WITH NO SUCCESS. MOST PROBLEMS THERE ARE RELATED TO BALANCE ISSUES. THIS I WOULD BELIEVE EVERYONE HERE REALIZES AND UNFORTUNATELY NEITHER WE NOR MAYTAG HAS FOUND A WAY TO STOP THE ISSUE. BEING WE ARE THE "BUYING PUBLIC" I WOULD GUESS THE SHAME REMAINS ON MAYTAG'S SHOULDERS. I CAN SEE SEVERAL UNHAPPY CUSTOMERS WITH IN THESE PAGES WHO WILL NEVER BUY MAYTAG AGAIN... SHAME ON MAYTAG!
Hello Washer Duties. My name if Melanie, and I am with Maytag. We understand your washer is not working properly. I have provided a link that will help with any troubleshooting you may not have thought of to help. Please feel free to reach out to Maytag if you have any further questions.
Sincerely, Melanie

I bought a used Maytag Performa through Craigs List in New York State. I paid $125.00 for it and the seller saved me a trip with my box trailer and even delivered it. (Little Did I Know) The unit was like new looking and I was impressed. Oh boy what a mistake! From the first load this monster traveled a minimum of three and a half feet and no matter what I've done still reacts in this fashion. I considered bolting it to the cement floor in the basement but what the heck it will probably pull out the masonry bolts. I give up. I now run it with a full masonry block on top for weight. This is a piece of junk and Maytag should have been really red faced when this machine hit the street. Hopefully it will find a place of honor in our city dump some day.
I have read all of the other comments, but the one I found most useful for describing the root of the problem is "thesedaysanengineer" posted 11 Dec 2011 . We bought a Performa in the fall of 2004 and have had decent performance out of it, but I'm in the process of replacing the pump, which is making a lot of noise. We too have the "dancing" problem, but it hasn't been a real problem until about the last year or so. At first, it worked pretty good, but over time the "unbalancing problem" become more and more noticeable. It only walks and dances during the spin cycle when it becomes unbalanced and it really starts banging around. I'd say it nows becomes unbalanced 90% of the time no matter how evenly you place the clothes. With heavier clothes like blankets and towels, it will always unbalance. We stop it and reposition the clothes (sometimes several times) before you can continue. We don't dare get out of earshot while while doing the laundry and take turns "babysitting" it. When in the wash and rinse cycle, it is fairly quiet. We haven't had a problem with it not draining completely or othe type of problems up until now (March 2012). I'm going to fix it this time and live with it for a little while longer as new washing machines are so expensive. The next time it needs a repair tho, we will buy a new one.
BTW, the matching dryer has been doing just fine.
We also purchased a maytag perform 3300 agw secondhand from a lady who said it was a great machine, we have had the same problems as everyone else with it violently bashing its way around the laundry when it only has a few things in it or a lot of things in it it constantly goes out of balance and you cant leave the laundry for fear it will be destroyed by the washing machine. I hate it and cant wait to get rid of it but i will not sell it on as i would hate for someone else to go through what we have gone through instead i think i will just bury it in the backyard never to be seen again ha ha.
I have a Performa too. It is an awful Machine. I used to be a Maytag repairman back in the 70s, when Maytag was the best you could buy. Not with this piece of junk, however. The trouble with it coming unbalanced is obvious, after I looked at it closely. Because the tub is cheap, flexible plastic, it distorts (changes shape during the spin cycle) due to the centrifugal force of the water spinning inside the tub, then the tub's inertial moments (rotation force-torque) alone takes over as it empties. The tension springs (something Maytag would never have used) will not stop the tub from distorting, they only make it worse. This is what happens when a company tries to save production money by using cheap material (I hear Norge actually made the machine not Maytag). It can not be fixed by a repairman. The tub may needs baffles built into the inner walls and buffer absorbers glued into the shell walls to absorb the force of the gyrating tub; And stronger springs with a rigid metal tub. This is an engineering/production problem. I suspect repairmen know this but have been told to keep their mouths shut to avoid a recall, or class-action suit.
It's nice to know that my wife and I aren't the only ones who have had problems with the "dancing" Maytag Performa washer. You can't walk away from the washer for fear of the damage it might cause to hoses, pipes, the dryer, wash tub, or anything in its path. Our "language" development has reached new heights with this washer. The famous call in our house is "The washers moving. Stop the washer!" In forty-four years of marriage, we have never had a problem with a "dancing" washer. We have actually considered contacting the producers of "Dancing with the Stars" to see if they would consider having our washer as a contestant. We will never even consider a Maytag in the future. I can't believe there hasn't been a major recall on this washer.
It's great to see that my wife and I aren't the only ones that have problems with the Maytag Performa washer. This washer moves more than those Magic Finger beds that you needed a quarter to get the bed to shake. We will never buy another Maytag. We have never had the shaking problem with any other washer we purchased in our 44 years of marriage. You can't walk away from the washer for fear of the damage it may cause to anything in its "dancing" path. I'm actually thinking about calling the producers of "Dancing With the Stars" to see if we can get the washer entered as a contestant. Does anyone know of any recalls?
poor repair service!
I called to make an appointment for washer repair service - explained that the washer was located in our rental property in another city and that my husband would have to be there to allow for entrance into the property. We were given a window for sat. Between 8a. M. And noon. I called the day before to confirm the appointment.
Husband left our home at 7a. M. And was at the residence located in san francisco. Since the tenants were going to be out of town - husband was sure to be there on time. To open the door.
By ll:30 a. M. There had been no contact from sears. Called the business office at ll:45 and was informed that our unit was the next on the list. L2:l5 p. M. Service man called to say he would be going to lunch and would then take our unit next. I informed him that this would not be acceptable. He stated he had been overbooked for the morning but said he would head for the unit in about l0 minutes.
Having thoroughly explained our situation - I would have thought that with being such strong sears customers that some consideration would have been made. For someone to have to wait over four hours is inexcusable.
The repair man receives his list and am sure it consists of some kind of order and he is probably unaware of special arrangements which have had to be made. But if our repair was last on the list - then a phone call could have minimized the wait time by alerting us.
Let me assure you that this experience will not soon be forgotten and I hope you give some thought to customer service.
I purchased a Maytag gas range in March of 2007. The front burners have never worked and the back burners burn so hot it has melted the back of the range where the clock is. The ovens burn so hot the oven racks are black. I have had a certified Maytag repairman in my home 3 times with no success. I have called R.C. Wiley in Orem, Utah where I purchase the range and they say I have to call Maytag. I have called Maytag at least a dozen times and get a different person everytime and I get promises that never come thru. Maytag has refused to replace the range because they say they have never gotten a work report from the repairman. R.C. Wiley will not replace the range, Maytag will not replace it or get it fixed. I paid $1,600 for this range it was suppose to be the top of the line. If this is the top of the line I would hate to see the bottom of the line. I thought Maytag would be reliable but I have been sorely disapointed with R.C. Wiley and Maytag.
What am I suppose to do I am stuck with a range that does'nt work and no one will fix it.
poor quality product!
I purchased a Maytag ICE2O fridge March of 2006. Three months after one year warranty expired the icemaker malfunctioned. The flap opens and closed continuously and all of the lights flash.
Maytag is aware of this problem and has not issued a recall to fix it.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I'm trying to get Maytag to respond to my many messages... i'm three days into having NO REFRIGERATOR! I see where others have had the same problem with theirs and maytag sent them a FREE part with FREE repair man to come out and install. I have lost food, I have food sitting around in three ice chest and am constantly having to buy ice. I can't cook for my family as I have no place to put left overs so we are eating sandwiches. Everything is disrupted at my house. My husband is disabled and we are on a fixed income, I have no money to fix my problem. Imagine how excited I was when I googled my problem and read where there were others with the same problem and Maytag recognized the problem, with or without a warranty, because its something to do with 'this' refrigerator? Yet I can't get help. I can't even get anyone to answer any of the SEVERAL emails and messages I've left. I take care of my disabled husband and my disabled daughter, I don't need this added stress. I can't afford to fix it at this point, I certainly can't go buy one, or even go to a rental center to rent one. I am just waiting to see if Maytag will have the goodness to help me with this as they have the others. french doors, ice maker on front, freezer on bottom. control panel lights were flashing on and off like a christmas tree, ice flapper was opening and closing and compresser stopped coming on. a sound coming from back that sounded like a car turning signal...and had to unplug it due to smelling a GAS TYPE SMELL coming from the back. Pretty sure its Freon coming from the compressor. So this may have caused something else to go wrong. Model number MF12568AEW
my mistake, model number is MF12568AEW. It would be really awesome if Maytag would return my MANY messages. I am very frustrated right now.
sorry...MF12568AEW is the model number. I see that the last post was made on this subject matter on 6/2012..thats been over 2 years. hope someone still follows this board and can help. After calling Maytag this morning, I wrote Maytag.Digital@maytag.com an email plus went to the Maytag website and sent them a message through their page. I'm hoping to hear something soon. My husband had a stroke and is disabled, so we're very limited on our income. I got on line yesterday and googled the problem and seen that MANY people have had this same problem. Imagine my excitement when I seen that Maytag had helped so many people. I am still holding out hope.
well, I am having the same problem as all of you. It happened yesterday, on a sunday and of course they weren't open so my husband had to call them this morning...we were told no. that there were no problems with my model and theres nothing they can do to help us? I was so hopeful after seeing all of you get free parts mailed to you and a free service person to come over and put it in, even without warranty. but they said no. any advice? mine is doing the same thing...stopped cooling...I have lost food and what I was able to save, I had to go buy ice for icechest. my life is totally disrupted right now and they say 'sorry'. the control panel keeps blinking on and off like a christmas tree and ice flapper keeps flapping. my model number is MF12568AES. they said there was no recall or anything defective. so no.
Hello Matt Allen. My name is Melanie and I am a representative of Maytag. We apologize about the frustration you have experienced with your refrigerator. If you would like us to look into this further, please provide your name, the name of the site you were contacted on (ComplaintBoard), your user ID name(Matt Allen), your phone number, your address, the full model and serial number, and email the requested information to Maytag.Digital@maytag.com. We would be happy to review your concerns further. Sincerely, Melanie.
I just experienced the same symptoms as everyone else - found this thread and took a look at the voltage board. It had the two popped capacitors as described. I decided to check with Whirlpool first and to my delight they have agreed to replace the board at no charge and also to cover the labor costs. Thanks Steve for your work - I am going to save the old board and the instructions and put them in a box in case this happens again. Cheers!
Thanks Steve. I did the repair as outlined and my frig is running great. Took longer to wait in line at radio shack than it took to repair.
Imagine that. June 5th 2011 and I wake up to play golf at 0530 for a 0700 tee off time and I find the refrigerator completely losing its mind and needing an exorcism. I’m Catholic, so I decide that the exorcism is the way to go, but its Sunday and I know no priest is available, so Google is the next best option. Of course I could just let the wife deal with unloading the frig because it’s at 58 degrees and I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before the food looks like 40 day old curry, but being that our 20th anniversary was just 2 days prior, I take the high road. Low and behold, I find this threat and Steve Beck’s fix on this site. I am an engineer by background but the way Steve wrote this, it really can be fixed by anyone. Radio Shack opened at 10, home by 1015, repair done by 1045. No holy water, no crosses and no yelling in Latin required. The frig is running like a champ. I really appreciate it when I find people who do what you all did here, and what Steve did. Thanks, and I will definitely be out today providing a random act of kindness of my own.
Whirlpool is covering to fix this part and labor included. I had to call three times (3rd time is the charm). The first two people said they had no knowledge of this problem. The third guy came through and said this is a quality control issue and this will be fixed for free. Part is being mailed. I have to call back one I receive the part and they will send someone to fix it. Good luck and don’t give up calling Maytag/Whirlpool. Call them at [protected].
I now must join this group...except my ice maker simply doesn't work. I cannot hear (I used to hear all the time) the water pump coming on and filling the ice maker. But no noise and no ice. Any body out there ever have this problem?
buyer beware!
Have had no refrigerator since June 12, 2007. Have had the worse possible documented service from Maytag. They DO NOT CARE. Period. It is a sad day when a company as large as Maytag just does not care. I have been waiting for a part since the 12th, today is the 20th. I have called several times a day, I have been hung up on, yelled at, lied to and even spoke with a Senior Executive who basically told me he just doesn't care.
For $3000 save your money and go with a company that has reputable service. Don't just take my word for it, stay on the net and google Maytag ICE20... I found pages of complaints about this refrigerator and sent them to the Illinois Consumer Affairs Department...
Icemaker Issue! Nightmare flapper opening/closing every 3 seconds 24 hours a day! Beeping, Buzzing, making horrible sounds, all lights flashing! It won 't stop, finally had to unplug it! I went to place where purchased, service was closed on weekend, salesman said he never heard of such a thing! Obviously many, many others have! Sounds like Maytag has produced a lemon! I spent a fortune on this refrigerator, recently went out of warranty 2 months ago, didn't purchase Extended Warranty, because it was supposed to be the best of the best!
Any class action suits? I'm so disappointed with Maytag. 2 weeks out of warranty, our Maytag stove fried, melted entire back & it wasn't covered! So much for Maytag & Serviceman never needing service! I feel this is false advertising.
Maytag French Door Bottom Freezer, Model MFI 2568AEB purchased in June 2006 and immediately experienced problems with food freezing in bottom drawer and fruit drawer. Phoned for service while under warranty and repaired with no charge. A broken thermostat slider was the problem. Second problem occurred January 2008, damper door is opening and closing on it's own and dispenser lights are flashing when compressor turns on. Placed a call to Maytag and still awaiting response.
Encourage others to report problems to the Consumer Product Safety Commission at www.cpsc.gov (especially if you have property damage and Federal Trade Commission at www.ftc.gov (complaint form). The more people that file formal complaints, the more likely a product recall will occur.
poor after sale service!
Currently all of my appliances are Maytag covered by the Maytag Dependability Plus extended service plan. I called Maytag for two issues with my dishwasher ; a recall of the inner door liner and a noisy drain pump. Before the technician arrived my dishwasher worked, but was a bit noisy. After four visits by a technician from Metro factory Service set up by Maytag Dependability plus, a new entire motor was installed as well as the recall performed twice. As of this point my dishwasher no longer works. Each visit by the technician was late (after 5:00 PM, hours beyond the time I was told he would arrive. I did call Maytag dependability plus on this situation and was referred to an Escalation Team Supervisor who did leave me a phone mail. Over a period of a week, I palced six separate calls to the assigned Escalation Team member pleading for a return call. As of today, I have received no return call. In desperation, I did call Metro Factory Service to find out a second new motor was ordered. Unfortunately, each unsuccessful technician visit means that I must another week or so before the next service call is scheduled. To date I have lost 4 days of work waiting for the technician who ultimately shows up after 5:00 and have a dishwasher that does not work. the last technician who showed up seemed commented that the incompetent technician who worked on my dishwasher the first three times and incapacitated it has only 4 months experience and has a track record of botching repairs. At this point, I am completely frustrated by the lack of customer service on the part of Maytag dependability plus and well as Metro Factory Repair Service who just don't deem to care. As a result of this mess, I will never buy another Maytag product or renew the extended service plans on my existing appliances. I will certainly never use Metro Factory service for any repair.

Add me to the club. My refrigerator is 14 months old and is on the brink of leaving me. Upon delivery a shelf bracket was broken. I had to drive to hhgregg to get one from a floor model, they did give me gas money and refund my delivery cost. Two months later the right door and an alignment problem, had to have a repairman to fix that. Now 14 months later no ice no water and no working top part of the refrigerator but the freezer still works. The flap that lets the ice out also has a mind of its own and very annoying. I had to shove a wash rag in the hole to keep it quiet. I do have a five year warranty and a repairman should be here June 7. For now we will try to feed a family of five from coolers and many icebags.

unfixable expensive junk
I purchased a Maytag Performa (Non-Performa) Washing Machine about a year and a half ago. It is the worst purchase ever. It is a piece of junk. Do not buy a Maytag product, they don't work and will continue to break and cost a fortune fixing them. I have heard that Whirlpool bought out Maytag and am now wondering if the Whirlpool brand will also be unfixable expensive junk.
Kenmore HE2 front loader machine, bought my dream set in blue 6 years ago. Washer died after 6 years and we are seniors with small loads always. Repairman charged us close to 150 dollars to tell us it was not cost effective to fixThe tripod broke..both drums would have to be replaced..would cost more than both washer and dryer originally cost to replace. He called it a premature failure...ya think? Blue is no longer available! We went back to a white top loader and want to warn anyone else to NOT purchase these machines! It always sounded like a jet was taking off in your laundry room.
avoid a whole lot of headache!
Over a year ago, my partner and I purchased a new compact washer and dryer set from Whirlpool on the recommendation of our local dealer. Though there are a few quirky features (to the washer in particular), we were generally pleased with our purchase. For an additional $99.00 we invested in a “Maytag Dependability Plus” Certificate which boasts that it is “. . . a valuable tool in helping you avoid unexpected repair expenses . . .” It is valid for 5 years from the date of purchase.
A little over a year passed since the date of purchase and the problems started. The washer was not spinning during its cycle, leaving the clothes soaking wet and soapy. The door would not open after the cycle was “done”, holding our clothes hostage until they began to mildew. It was time to use our “Maytag Dependability Plus”.
Upon my first call to Maytag, I discovered that we were mistakenly documented as having (2) dryers instead of (1) washer and (1) dryer. Even though the model #s and serial #s corresponded to (1) washer and (1) dryer, we were subjected to a 3 week wait before the wording on the certificate was changed so that service could be scheduled. Four weeks after my initial call, a technician came out to examine the machine. He poked around a bit and determined that some parts needed to be ordered to fix the problem. One week passed, the parts arrived, and I scheduled the next service visit. The technician returned and decided that these parts were not the ones in question and that a new set of parts needed to be ordered to fix the problem. We patiently waited ten more days for the new parts to arrive. I scheduled the third visit. The technician returned and again determined that he did not have sufficient parts - he placed a third order for parts. Throughout this process, we did not see any advances toward the function or “dependability” of our washer.
I put in several calls to Maytag during this odyssey outlining the problems with the service. I got the run around each time and was told that I did not qualify for a replacement washer. The certificate states that after (4) visits to repair the same part, they will replace the unit with a new one (the Lemon Law). That’s where they have you - the technician has ordered one part after another, never the same part twice. Under this policy, we will surely endure the next five years without a washer before the same part is ordered four times.
Two months without laundry and at least three days taken away from work far outweighs the $99.00 spent on our “Maytag Dependability Plus” coverage. Had we foreseen the money and time lost to horrible service, we certainly would have spent the extra money up front to procure much nicer, more dependable, Bosch or LG units and we would have avoided a whole lot of headache.
dont buy maytag or their extended warranty
My complaint is against Maytag and Maytag Dependability Plus (the extended warranty). I bought a Maytag washer in November 2003, I then bought the extended warranty thru Maytag Dependability Plus in November 2004. In February 2005 I had to call for service because my machine was making a horrible screeching sound and water was leaking out of the front of the machine. The maytag repairman came out to fix the problem. Then in November of the same year I had to call again for the same problem, well it turned out to be an ongoing problem. I would call when it screeches, they would come out and lubricate it, that lubrication would last about a month or two then I would have to call them again, well this happened over and over again. I have called them for this problem about 6 times. The last time they had a technician from a local appliance repair shop (I guess all the lonely Maytag repairmen were busy) Well he knew exactly what the problem was immediately and said he would have to order parts. Maytag Dependability Plus called me back a few days later to let me know that I have reached my service limit, meaning that the service calls have now exceeded the amount I paid for the washer and they would not provide any more service to me unless I paid for it. Well this floored me because I thought that was the reason I bought the extended warranty in the first place so if something does go wrong with the washer I would be covered. NO, thats not right. So, I said OK then obviously I must have bought a "lemon" and we can go about it that way. NO, in order for it to be a "lemon" they must have repaired the same problem three times. I argued that they have been here at least 6 times for the same problem and their argument was they haven't "repaired" it three times, they only lubricated it. So now my washer has completely seized up, my floors are flooded and I had to go out and buy a new washer as this argument has been going on for over two months now, and all over a washer that lasted 3 years!
Maytag and Maytag Dependability Plus does not care about their customers at all.
I bought a dependable Maytag washer 3 1/2 years ago. My extended warranty was also with Maytag Dependability Plus. After a year they had to install a new transmission and two weeks ago after a flood in my laundry room they informed me it would be too expensive to repair and they are "buying me out" for $142.00 (wow). The only recourse I have is to go to court and that ofcourse is too expensive. They know know that no one will take them to court so that is how they get away with doing what they wish. So after 3 1/2 years I too have to purchase a new washer. So much for the dependable Maytag. I want to scream everytime I see the Maytag repairman comercial on TV. No wonder he is bored, he doesn't have to repair broken Maytags.
rebates refused!
I remodeled 3 Luxury Condos and spent over $40,000 at Home Depot... I purchased 10 applianced with UPGRADES... This was to entitle me to $775 of instore rebates! Well. they sent my $125 and five emails to supervisors at the Rebate Center did no good... The HD salesman had the internal memo describing the rebate program so he called a "Special Agent of Rebates" and confirmed the $775 in rebates and promised them in three weeks! He said "TO DESTROY THE OLD CARDS WORTH $125 AND HE WOULD SEND ME THE $775 CARD. Well, two months later I received a card for $500 with no explanation and I am short $275! This has been TWELVE MONTHS SINCE MY ORIGINAL PURCHASE... Home Depot plays the " stonewall game" and nothing happens... They have rally Screwed me... The Local Store Manager has told me at least five times he will solve... nothing happens! He even said he would give me credit on merchandise if I did not get the cards but nothing happens... This Company has messed up everything I have ever done with them from carpet to cabinets to delivery... They delivered 12 heavy packets of 16" tile broken... said they had to leave them! 5 months later I had to pack them up and take them in to get the credit...

I too just got screwed in a Maytag rebate. Bought a washer dryer set at Lowes in September. The receipt had printed instruction about how to submit for a $100 rebate. The same day that Lowes delivered and installed our new washer and dryer I used the on-line option to submit for my rebate. That was 7 September 2015. Today, 10 October 2015, I received a letter from Maytag saying that they could not process my rebate because they did not have a receipt for the purchase. The letter said that I must submit the receipt to them no later than 5 October... well their letter was dated 21 September but didn't get to me until today 10 October. I'm sure that Maytag is gaming the rebate programs. I am going to call them on their next working day (today is a weekend and Monday is a holiday. I will also ask Lowe's to stop selling their products with any sort of rebate information.
Probably won't do any good but I'll be another voice in this scam world.
Mike
I am also still waiting for my rebate. The rebate was good through 5/31 and I made my purchase on 5/24. I processed the rebate online and in July I got a notice that my purchase was not within the rebate timeframe specified (which was false). I mailed in the same information with the date of purchase highlighted and all the other original paper work the same day in July. I've tried to live chat with Maytag (not available), tried emailing customer service and one of the options is marked *required...but nothing appears when I click on the arrows. SO frustrating...and I agree they are taking their time to allow me to forget about the rebate. I won't by a Maytag again after this experience!

I see I'm not alone! I jumped through all the right hoops, sent in pre-authorization and found out yesterday receipt I sent in "didn't show a qualifying purchase for this offer" AARGH! Even though I picked the model from other top rated choices specifically because it was on the list. Of course now I can't locate the paperwork, but I'll keep looking, it's here somewhere. Happy with the dryer, not the rebate results.
WE PURCHASED A MAYTAG DISHWASHER IN MAY - MAYTAG'S REBATE MONTH. MAYTAG ADVERTIZED A $50 REBATE ON THE DISHWASHER. WE STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE REBATE AS OF TODAY SEPTEMBER 21ST. MY HUSBAND HAS CALLED SEVERAL TIMES AND EACH ONE TELLS HIM TO CALL ANOTHER NUMBER. THE WEBSITE HAS SAID THE REBATE IS IN PROCESSING SINCE MAY 17TH. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO PROCESS? ANY SUGGESTIONS? I HATE REBATES! WHY DON'T THEY JUST MARK IT DOWN THE $50. I KNOW THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE FORGET OR GIVE UP. THAT'S HOW THEY MAKE THEIR MONEY. WELL, WE'RE NOT GIVING UP!
This is Bull**** hd has their own rebate center and you are dumping on maytag about hd gift cards. Maytag has nothing to do with hd rebates or their gift cards, although there are rebates that Maytag processed, hd gift cards have nothing to do with Maytag. Also just go you know... i process rebates and i know that if the rebates were denied, it's because the customer F***ed up when they filled out the formes. All the forms are writen in legal guidlines and they are always followed so if you didn't get your rebates it's your oun fault.

I bought a neptune top loader in April 2006 and have had nothing but trouble with it . Recently I begin smelling a moldy smell after a load finshed washing, then it begin to leak oil. I called our local repair man from the store where we bought the washer and was told it would cost about $500. to fix it. I spoke with whirlpool representatives today who told me all they could do for me is give me a15% discount on a new maytag. WHAT A JOKE! THE MODEL # IS FAV 6800AWW
I have not had any circuit problems, but have you looked just under the top ring inside? There is mold everywhere. I cant believe how bad my clothes smell after just washing them, I thought because I had left them in over night. But it has happened too many times and so I started to look around and was astonished with what I had found. If you have one of these machines, take a look. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
I have the exact same problem and this is my second Neptune. I originally purchased Neptune Model# FAV6800AWW in Jan 2005 at Sears. After numerous service calls due to problems where the machine would quit due to unbalance condition, it was finally replaced under warranty (every part in the original machine had been replaced). Now I am having the Lr problem. I have been a Maytag buyer all my life. NEVER again. After much research on the web, I see multiple people reporting the Lr problem and getting no satisfaction from Maytag. This time around I'll purchase an LG brand.
