I have a high credit score, no loans, and a credit limit of $24,000 on my one credit card. The card has a cash back bonus of 1% and rotating categories at 5%. My card was recently hacked and I was quickly notified by the issuer and sent replacement cards. I am very happy with the service, but it got me thinking about credit cards as I had no other card to fall back on. In researching, I learned about the Wells Fargo Active Cash card with a 2% bonus and no rotating categories. Since this would provide double the money back and the bank provides an online application, I decided to get a second card. I expected to get the card quickly and easily since everything would be online. I waited 7 to 10 days and nothing happened. I finally called and was told to mail in 4 paper copies establishing my ID. So much for the online approval process. I waited another few days and still nothing. I called again and was told they were still waiting for my paperwork, then later that day I finally received an email denying me the card. That was a long time for nothing. I could have been using it for my Christmas shopping to help earn the $200 promotion offered for applying and using the card.
I then applied to Capital One online for "instant approval " and quickly received notice for which card I was approved. It wasn't the 2% cash back card, so next I went to CitiBank and their online application. Fifteen minutes later I had my credit card and it will be mailed to me.
That, Wells Fargo, is an online application!
Recommendation: Based on my experience, if your looking for a credit card, skip Wells Fargo Bank.
