Memorial Hermann Health System ER patient and family care - memorial hermann cypress december 17th, 2020

Yesterday December 17th, 2020 my mom got admitted to the Memorial Hermann ER on 290 and Grand Parkway for high blood pressure and heart palpitation. The staff at the ER was very rude to her and to us (family). we explained to them that my mom does not speak English and needs to have a family member with her but they refused and left her alone, scared, and confused. They did a blood work and EKG on her and they did not give her and us the results. After a long struggle with the ER team, we requested that my mom leaves the ER because of neglect and fear since they did not communicate with her and us (the family) about her health status. The ER team refused to let my mom leave the ER, they pushed my brother who was there trying to get an answer on her health status but they would not give him an answer or let him speak/see her. my mom asked the nurse for water after waiting for hours in triage, the nurse told her: you cannot get water since you want to leave our ER. What a shame for a hospital to treat patient with no compassion and neglect. Finally, the called the security and police and escorted the family and the patient out of the ER. We had to admit my mom to another hospital for additional care after being neglected and abused by the ER team. The family is is filing an official complaint and investigation about the incident

Memorial Hermann Health System Communication level and advocacy for patient

Currently dealing with Memorial Herman Northeast in Humble, Texas.

Patient is unable to advocate for himself and has been, under Memorial Herman's care, tied with restraints to the bed. Due to loss of oxygen the patient is not receiving enough oxygen to the brain causing him to lose mental capacity and to hallucinate.

I am unable to hear the patient on Zoom meetings due to the requirement that he be on constant Bi-Pap, and likewise the patient is unable to hear due to hearing loss.

It has been requested that the family sign a do not resuscitate order. His condition is critical and rapidly declining without an advocate with him.

I have reached out to a case manager as well as the director of patient access and the patient relations manager, all of whom I have names and numbers if needed.

I have contacted both my local Congressman and State Representative to find out what steps need to be taken for an advocate to be allowed in the room with the patient.

So far not one person on staff at the hospital is giving us the proper access or advocacy for the patient. We aren't being given status updates.

Memorial Hermann Health System Outstanding balance vs admission to memorial hermann parc

Yesterday, on November 3, 2020, I had to admit my daughter to a treatment facility, Memorial Hermann Prevention and Recovery Center or Memorial Hermann PaRC. During my daughter's assessment, admissions verified her insurance coverage is covered at 100%, no co-pay or out-of-pocket costs. She will need detox and 30-day treatment; however, before they would treat her they told me I had an outstanding balance of $2200. They wanted me to pay half of that outstanding balance out of pocket and before her admission. A medical facility was opting not to treat my daughter who has insurance coverage until I paid half of the balance during a pandemic. I explained that due to COVID-19 my salary was reduced. They allowed me to set up a payment plan of $185 per month and took my debit card information. When did capitalizing on healthcare overrule patient care?

This is wrong. Memorial Hermann could easily write off that $2200. This payment plan is not doable for me and the fact that they feel comfortable forcing people to commit to a payment plan in exchange for treatment is reprehensible.

Memorial Hermann Health System Test results from ge, sent to my gynecologist!

I want to know why my Gastroenterolgyst abdominal ultrasound was sent to my Gynecologist? I consider this a breach of the HIPPA protocols. Who authorize my personal records to be sent to another doctor WITHOUT my consent nor my knowledge?

Memorial Hermann Health System Service

On Wednesday October 1, 2020 my father was admitted to the Memorial City Memorial Hermann hospital. On Saturday October 4, 2020 I ended up being his visitor for the entire day. When I first walked in the machine that his IV bag was connected to was beeping. After about 20 minutes Staci my fathers nurse came in, shut the machine off and proceeded to type on her computer. Throughout the day the machine kept going off. Every time it did I would open the door and wait for someone to come in and check it but after about 20 minutes and no one came I would call the nurse and ask her to please come check the machine. When they did come in to check it all the would do was hit the reset button. Probably why it kept going off every 40 minutes. Finally I noticed that the IV had come loose from his arm and had been leaking. I once again called Staci to let her know and she turned the machine off and said she would come back. She however did not come back. Maybe 45 minutes later the night nurse came in to check on my father. It's concerning to think that this is the level of attention that the nurses give the patients. I suggest you look into why she was more interested in what was on her phone rather than attending to her patients. Her dismissive attitude is not becoming of a well trained caring nurse. I will make sure to tell everyone I know and everyone I talk to never to go to Memorial Herman hospital if they are looking for a professional, caring, and sympathetic staff who truly cares about their patients.

Memorial Hermann Health System Unethical behavior by staff

On September 10, 2020 I was receiving a procedure at the image center, greater hights and the nurse was assisting me, very nice, professional and knowledgeable. When an older Hispanic gentleman, later know as the director of the department comes in being inappropriate with the staff. This has happened several times. he comes in and cause everyone to be uncomfortable. I told the staff i don't see how they work with him and they all said if it was up to them they would leave. every time i have come to this hospital and have to use the image center. this man is always making my experience unlikable and nerve wrecking. when i come to the hospital, he's always being inappropriate, his tone and the things he say. Its already an uncomfortable feeling. so to have this man shoot my blood pressure up every single time i need imaging done, is unacceptable. I have used and recommended this facility for over 40 years. Someone needs to talk to the head "Man" in the image department because he is the reason the staff are all uncomfortable and not as productive, its like he's keeping them from excelling and they should not have to work under those circumstances.

Memorial Hermann Health System Account no 0457705437506 date of service aug 7th, 2020

Re: Account No 0457705437506 Date of Service Aug 7th, 2020

Dear Sir/Madam,
I was shocked to see that Memorial Hermann had the nerve to bill my insurance as well as me for the lack of service received on Aug 7th, 2020. In fact, I received no service at all and do not believe I or my insurance company owes Memorial Hermann one dime.

My account: I had been previously diagnosed with a Diverticulosis episode. I was treated with antibiotics and special diet. I was told if the condition worsened to go to the emergency room. About the 3rd day into the episode I started experiencing server cramping and pain sufficient to make me cry, I thought I had ruptured my colon. My wife took me to Memorial Hermann's ER and I informed the attendant I believed I had a ruptured colon; it was also obvious from looking at me and talking to me I was in extreme pain. I was told to wait. After appx 15 mins I was called back to give some medical and personal information. After another 15 or 20 mins I was called back again to get blood taken and they left the IV hook-up in my arm, and I was sent back out to the waiting room. The room was absolutely freezing, and it felt even worse because I had a fever. I was not dressed for this environment, so my experience was made much worse. At about the 45 min mark I asked the attendant what my number was; he harshly replied we don't give numbers. I asked if he had any idea who much longer it will take to get me in, he increased his rude tone and replied "you just got here". I then asked about how long is it taking people to get in and he replied "3 and a half to 4 fours". I said "oh my god, did I come to the wrong hospital" and he replied you are welcome to go elsewhere. So I went back to my miserable waiting. After about another hour I asked if I could get a blanket and the same attendant, again without any compassion whatsoever, replied "No, we don't give out blankets". I go back to my freezing chair. After about another hour I again ask if he had any idea how much longer it might be, is there a way he can check. He became very annoyed and said "No!". I don't recall if that was the last time I asked or not but the last time I asked I also include "if you can't give me some idea how much longer I am going to wait then I will leave because at home I had a warm bed and pain meds". He replied "if you want to leave then leave". I then asked to have the IV hookup removed and then sat back down. I had to call my wife to come get me. She was not allowed to wait with me so she just went back home. About 10 minutes while I was waiting for my wife a technician came out and called my name to get a CT scan. I said ok I will go but he said you don't have an IV attachment so he can't take me. So, he just went back in.
It turns out I did not have a ruptured colon and thank God because not getting treatment could have cost me my life. I was aware of the risk but the environment was so cold and the staff so rude and the lack of information about who long I was going to be sitting there in total misery, I felt it was worth the risk to get the heck out of there. I will never go to this hospital again and maybe not to another Memorial Hermann facility either, despite my very good experiences in Katy facilities. I am also refusing to pay one dime for this pathetic and incompetent service. I was my insurance company reimbued; $832 to draw blood and put in an IV attachment all of which was a complete waste because your staff was so rude and inconsiderate that they couldn't be bothered to check and see that I was next in line to get my CT scan and sure as heck didn't have enough compassion to give me a blanket when I asked. Btw, I saw one other patent receive blanket. Furthermore, the only positive thing the attendant had to say was his encouragement for me to leave. I'm not sure what this guy's problem was; did I not come across all nice and sweet while I was in extreme pain and freezing my butt off and he took it personal? Or could it have been a race issue on his part? Maybe a hero complex? Or is that just the way you guys treat people at that ER?
I will challenge this bill as long as I have to and file complaints with as many organizations as I possible can to expose this pathetic situation. This will include the press. Many healthcare working are indeed heroes during this pandemic, but so are police until the choke someone out or shoot them in the back. It is time to remind people that hospital workers are not above reproach!

Sincerely,

Mike Myers

Memorial Hermann Health System Billing department

My wife had a procedure done August 3rd 2020 (approximately) she paid the requested amount at that time. Then she receives a bill for $11.98 in the mail. She paid it online 8/26/2020. She inadvertently paid it twice. We were still receiving bills for the $11.98 so she called in and was told she had not paid the bill. We checked the credit card and it clearly shows it paid twice to Memorial Herman. She took a picture of the card payment and emailed that to Memorial Herman. They refused to check the email and said we would have to wait 72 hours to speak with a supervisor. What type of bureaucratic nonsense is that? It seems your personal can not even verify they received the email that shows proof of payment. WHY?

Memorial Hermann Health System Abuse of service regarding a specific provider at memorial hermann property kingwood tx

My patient id is: 2332205 and I met with dr. Rabia Shafiq on 08/12/20. I've had apprehension about going to a doctors, since I was a kid, but I was genuinely looking forward to my appointment with dr. Rabia Shafiq. She's close, a female, in the new memorial Hermann building and I liked her video. The staff seemed nice and the process was straight forward. However, I can't believe how shockingly rude her attitude was... From the moment she entered the examination room. She was clearly agitated. She nearly slammed her tablet on the table... Like an angry teenager. She didn't introduce herself, as new doctors normally do, and she didn't even look at me when she entered the room. She sat at the desk and opened her lap top. Then, she addressed me with seeming disdain and eventually she drove me to leave without any hope of treatment. After she took me down a dead end road of contradictions; such as telling me she can't test me for what I claim to have (for over 7 years) but she can prescribe the medication that I already told her I built up a resistance to. So, she confused me by saying she can give me medication for something she can't test for. Then, she challenged me on why I think I have this illness and it might be hormones... So maybe I need hormone treatments? I've been suffering and trying to treat a candida/fungal overload for at least 7 years. I'm 100% sure of what I have and explained to her the anti fungal medication works at first and that I have all the classic symptoms... Like a text book case. According to her, i'm not supposed to tell her what's wrong with me because she's supposed to tell me. I agree completely... If I don't know what's wrong. I told her I have nothing against taking any tests she wants to administer so long as they include testing for my present illness... Which has been neglected and mistreated before and going on for too long. I told her I needed her help. She told me she won't refer me to a specialist since I can't prove what I have but she also can't test me for it... Another dead end of confusion. She showed no interest in helping me. I tried to walk things back and communicate that I felt there was some tension, between us, from the moment we met. But dr. Shafiq responded that I was now wasting her time... As she looked at the time. Imagine how I felt after I paid $133.00 (in advance)... To waste her 10 or 15 minutes and getting nothing for it. I felt I was the one wasting time and I knew right then that I should have walked out when she slammed the tablet on the desk. I asked her if she thought she could help me and she told me she could not. I told her that since she felt she could not help me then I would be leaving. She said fine and she couldn't seem to get up fast enough to walk out ahead of me. I noticed she's only been in practice for 2 years and already has a lot of negative feedback... With similar concerns. I tried to make sense of what happened that afternoon. She had no intention of helping me or didn't know how. I was displaced... Trying to figure out what I had done or said to set her off and then I stumbled onto other reviews and I realized I didn't do or say anything. I'm not the first to experience her negligence and unfortunately, I probably won't be the last. I know this encounter is hard to believe and it was for me too. I even wondered if the doctor is on something that would make her so aggressive, has some kind of mental illness or if her family owns the practice so she can do whatever she wants without consequence. This is how bad the encounter was. I left a comment on yelp and it was responded to. I was asked to email at: [protected]@memorialhermann.org so I reached out and a pleasant lady called my home the next day. She told me she would pass along my concerns to the dept. That handles doctor complaints. I have not heard anything back and I want to inform memorial hermann that I am going to cancel the charge on my credit card. I did not receive any type of service and I had to pay in advance. The least that can be done is to remove the charge. I should not have to pay for what bordered on intimidation and harassment... Not doctor care. Thank you for your consideration. My contact info is in the memorial hermann system.
On next door 4 other people said they had nearly the same experience. Please see the link below for additional reviews: https://www.healthgrades.com/physician/dr-rabia-shafiq-xyls4ql

Memorial Hermann Health System Obstacle course before employment

I have been compliant since late July with Memorial Herman in Memorial City. I filled out paperwork. I did the video interview. I complied with the thorough physical screening. I tolerated a cut in pay 13 to 11 because due to covid I have not been able to renew my cna license in time.

Now I am supposed to login into some workday. If you send an email about logging into workday, a link would be much appreciated. On the day of physical I dealt with La***** She made the comment "whatever" like I was there to replace her.

Memorial Hermann Health System No social distancing in an overcrowded open concept facility.

Location: IronMan Sports Medicine Institute Memorial City. With rising covid19 cases I would expect there to be high attention to keeping patients safe. I understand that health/rehab requires close contact. However, there should be a limit to how many staff and patients should be scheduled at one time in an open concept facility. I have counted up to 70 people in the small area at one time. In addition, I have heard staff make smart remarks about some patients who are taking cleanliness/sanitation seriously.

Memorial Hermann Health System billing malpractice

I had a small stroke on 1/16/2018. I was admitted and spent one night at Memorial Herman. I was never billed out of pocket, even though I called and tried to pay my part of the bill immediately after my insurer stated I might owe $520.07. Account number: [protected]. I was told I owed nothing by MHH billing. Fast forward to October 2019. I was sent a bill for $520.07. I explained to MHH that I had heard nothing from them for over 20 months and that the timely billing statue of the Civil Practices and Remedies law went into effect after 11 months of no contact with me, specifically section 146.002 Timely Billing Required, the provider shall bill a patient or other responsible person for service provided to the patient no later than the first day of the 11th month after the date the services are provided. I had never heard from MHH until in excess of 20 months after services were provided. MHH are in violation of state law when demanding I pay anything. Each time I have called to address this with MHH billing, including talking with a supervisor, I'm told I owe the bill, even when I give them specific state statue. I do not under state law owe MHH any money. I feel I'm being harassed as part of the ongoing conflict between Cigna and MHH. Cigna has stated their clients are not being treated the same as a other insurance company's clients, as for billing, and has decided not to renew its contract with MHH. I believe at this time I will need to hire an attorney. I have also filed complaints with the Texas Department of Insurance, the State's Attorney General's Office and the State Department of Health Services. I am concerned that my account will be turned over to collections even though state law says otherwise. I want my account to be zeroed out. Thank you, Rick Archer [protected]

Memorial Hermann Health System lab billing

We have used Memorial Hermann Labs over the past 9 months. 4 out of 4 of our labs bills were misfiled. We gave ID and Insurance card at the time of service. However, MH failed to properly file the claim - mistakes include using the wrong patient name, billing the wrong insurance, wrong subscriber, wrong Id numbers... I have gotten 2 bills corrected - one even had to be resubmitted twice even though MH billing had all the correct information. I am still trying to get two of our bills properly processed - it has been 9 MONTHS! Still no results. After months of phone calls, of which in the later months I have escalated to dealing only with supervisors I am still not getting any results. I am told "It takes time. Accounts are pending adjustment." I began dealing with supervisors 3 months ago! Customer service is so poor that I am not getting calls back from supervisors. My insurance has even conference called with MH billing and is stunned at why they can not get my claims properly filed.
My best advice is NEVER use Memorial Herman Labs. Their own supervisors even conceded to me that their billing is a mess.

I tried calling Memorial Herman main number today to file a formal grievance about billing. After speaking with 5 employees - all of which had no idea where to direct my call, I was forced to leave a message with an employee who may not even deal with this.

MH Labs are a prime example of an organization that is grossly incompetent and either does not care or does not have the ability to properly run their business.

I URGE YOU TO USE QUEST OR LABCORP. NEVER NEVER USE MH - YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH IT WILL COST YOU IN THE END DUE TO THEIR MISTAKES

I have a similar issue. I went in for an annual physical and they did a Vitamin D test that I did not request. Insurance won't pay it due to the diaganosis code.
This is a $101 lab test, the most expensive one on the bill and it is not covered. If they run 50 people through that lab in a day with just one test that is not covered, they collect a full $5, 000 a day for tests that were not requested or unnecessary. It's not right. Very sick or older patients may not understand their bills or know that they can question it.
I have spent 1 1/2 hours on phone calls where they promise to contact the doctor or the lab and call me back, but they do not. I got another email this morning saying that I need to pay my bill or it goes to collections. The billing department is giving me the run-around and sending me back to the person that I called in January. I will fill a complaint with Memorial Hermann Health Solutions 7737 SW Frwy C-97, Houston, TX 77074 Attn: Complaints and see if I get resolution.

Memorial Hermann Health System embezzlement by memorial hermann executives covered up

Would it surprise you to know that under CEO, Dan Wolterman's leadership over $1BIL was embezzled/stolen by Memorial Hermann executives, directors, employees and suppliers and only ONE such employee was prosecuted in 2015 for embezzling $10MIL, the rest walked away scott free with their ill-gotten gains.

According to one employee, they had no idea the theft was so rampant when they started investigating it in 2015 so they quickly covered it up! WHAT?

One executive purchased $10MIL in property with embezzled money from the hospital and they just let him retire with it intact in 2017. WHAT?

Memorial Hermann's supply chain employed a 3rd party consultant who used an alias, they'd paid him over $28MIL and he like the others was never prosecuted. It was just covered up at the highest levels within Memorial Hermann.

Memorial Hermann and its executives are untouchable, and you must ask yourself what state and federal agencies they are so well connected to that no one has investigated them for the deep level of theft within the hospital that went over for over two decades!

It's disgusting and they belong in prison like all other criminals for stealing taxpayer money!

They keep it off the news and out of the papers. How? Memorial Hermann's current and former executives and their attorneys need to be held accountable!

Memorial Hermann Health System billing system

I live close by the Memorial Hermann Sugar Land and I have been going there for my routine check up since they open the hospital. There's no problem with the doctors and the billing...but ever since my doctor left and I got transfer to the new doctor and the nightmares begin. For the past 3 years, I have to struggle with the billing dept. Every year when I get my routine check up, and I ended up with bills and bills. Yes. I have insurance. but I also understand I portion I need to pay or didn't need to pay. I have contacted billing dept. about 2-3 times every month try to get resolved, they bill me for something I didn't do, or they've omit the mistakes and put the wrong coding. I keep receiving the same bill and email to ask me to pay. I contacted my insurance and they never receive any revised claim.
The billing dept. always gave me different excuses and ask me to call my medical record dept.? As you can see, every year I go, there's problem every year. They just don't know how to do their jobs.

Memorial Hermann Health System charity care/billing

August 26, 2019

Memorial Hermann Health Solutions, Inc.
7737 SW Freeway C-97
Houston, Texas 77074
Attn: Complaints

Via: Complaintsboard.com

To Whom It May Concern:

I was seen by Memorial Hermann Hospital in 2017 on dates 5/26/17, 6/4/17, 6/17/17 and 6/23/17. I was not working, did not have a place to live and was receiving SNAP benefits. Each time I went into the Hospital, I was very clear in communicating that I was not working.

I am now seeing the ARS Collection Debt on for ACS Physicians related to the Hospital visits above. I contacted Memorial Herman Hospital regarding the matter and the representative told me that I could no longer apply for charity care and she could escalate the matter to the Supervisor. The Supervisor informed me that the hospital themselves have not sent any billing to collections. However, they have no control over the billing of the physicians. He also stated it was my responsibility have asked for Charity care at the time I was seen and up to 240 days. However, it is NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO ADVISE ME THAT CHARITY CARE IS AVAILABLE.

I expressed my gratitude for the hospital recognizing my inability to pay, but asked why was that information not given to the physicians? Again, he stated that the only way to close the physician-related accounts is to have a charity care approval letter. I asked the Supervisor, how can I ask for Charity Care if I do not know it exists?

I have tried to talk with ACS and ARS who state if they receive a charity care letter from Memorial Hermann, they will close the accounts.

I am respectfully asking that these accounts be closed. I was not working then and did not have a place to live.

Sincerely,
/s/ Sabrina Woods

Memorial Hermann Health System billing/customer service

Prior to my decision to have an MRI performed at MHH Katy in Aug 2018, the MHH Benefits Verification Department verified my benefits so I could decide whether I would have the procedure done. On three occasions before the procedure I was told by MHH that my benefits had been confirmed & that my responsibility would be $300. With that info, I went ahead with the MRI. Several weeks following the procedure, MHH Katy sent me an invoice for $1, 761.

Numerous, documented calls to MHH Katy for them to correct their error received the same response, "We did verify your benefits, and this is what your insurance says you owe." My insurance carrier has NO record of contact with MHH Katy verifying benefits. To to the contrary, when my insurance company called MHH Katy last month (nearly a year after the procedure), MHH told my provider "we didn't actually verify benefits, we just asked for an upfront payment." This is a complete contradiction to what I've been told by representatives & their managers at MHH over this past year. Knowing all calls are recorded, I requested the recording of the alleged call in which the MHH Benefits Verification Department claims to have verified my benefits so this matter could be settled. I was told MHH does not have access to the recorded calls. Since no call or email verification ever happened, they cannot provide proof of the confirmation. Yet, they are trying to hold me accountable for $1, 761, an amount that would have prevented the MRI procedure.

Unfortunately, all calls this past year have been a combination of poor communication at best, untruths about work performed & unacceptable customer service. If you're fortunate enough to get a live person on the line, your call will likely be dropped at another person or dept's extension, for it not to be returned. In the instances where I thought a manager would be able to see their inconsistencies, they too, gave the same rote line that must be typed on my file for others to read.

If your doctor refers you to MHH Katy I recommend you ask if there are options. If not, do not trust their benefits verification department. Get it in writing. Be prepared for them to make mistakes and be prepared to spend an absurd amount of time on the phone getting it resolved.

This has been a terrible experience and has still not been resolved.

Memorial Hermann Health System test results

As of July 2, 2019 I was scheduled to do a PET SCAN this will rule any cancer in my body. The tests would be ready the following day. I have made several calls and voicemails to Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine. No one has returned my calls. I haven't been able to sleep, in excruciating pain that leads to tears and in depression. I have reached out to 713-704-0030 Uretha Butler...Public Relations. She reached out to the department and no one still haven't returned my called. This is my life I'm concerned about and I need to kno if I have LUNG CANCER or not
