I purchased the mower and it lasted all of 1 week so I returned it and did the same with the 4 others that I had to return for all types of reasons from not running to making noises and yes the mower had oil plus I have been in the automotive repair business for over 40 years.
The last one that I had to exchange lasted 6 months and quit so I call the place where I purchased it from and they would not do anything so I called the 1.800 number for John Deere and was told that I would need to take it to an authorized dealer.
I called to tell them what I thought was wrong and they said to bring it in and when I unloaded it they stated there would be a $70.00 dollar service charge even if its under warranty so I loaded it back into my trunk and they service manager said that he would waive this for me since this was my 6th one.
They kept it for one week and call to say that nothing was wrong with it so I asked if they had checked the carburetor because I knew that it was indeed flooding out and yes they did. I picked it up and it did the same thing plus it still continues to run for 30 minutes and quits.
I called the main office at John Deere to explain what was going on as well as what does their so called 2 year warranty really cover and was informed that it covers everything, but why do they charge the $70.00 dollar service charge?
They stated that many problems are caused by the owner of the mowers and this service charge is to pay for that company's time in the event that its not a warranty issue and I can understand this since I work on vehicles everyday and people do strange things and yes I need to be paid as well but I know that the carburetor is bad (its flooding out and the mower has both fire and fuel) so why not just replace it and be done?
The long and short is that they will not do anything and the John Deere warranty means nothing, zero, nada, so if you are in the market for a walk behind mower I would NOT recommend John Deere or anything from them at all plus the mower just turned 2 year old (out of the so-called 2 year warranty) so I bought a carburetor kit and rebuilt it myself and its running great.
Lowe's has no customer service at all, not even the main head quarters located at 1000 Lowe's Blvd. Mooresville, NC [protected].
Well if you purchased a lawn mower, for your own use, containing an engine with up to 30 horsepower in the United States or Puerto Rico and between January 1, 1994 and April 12, 2010 I hope that you read this and filled out the paperwork before the deadline.
