Hello I am the Owner and CEO of The National Registry of ID Theft Protection and Fraud Prevention and I thought I'd send you this email to let you know that all is not lost. There are many scams going on across North America which is why unfortunatly I created this company to help those who have been victims of any scams and you would be surprised of the origin of which these scams came from. Now I ask that you check out my websites which are www.nationalregistryofidtheftprotection.yolasite.com and www.nationalregistryofidtheft.com and www.nationalregistryofidtheft.vpweb.ca you will come to find that I am not a telemarketer I am actually a registered Consumer Advocate with both US and Canadian Governments and my full information is on my websites including my address and toll free number as well as my cell number and actual home number the reason being is I don't believe in hiding who I am or where I am and I'm actually quite proud of what I've accomplished and I've recieved many letters of recommendations from all of my clients however due to the legality of my company I have not posted these testimonials as of yet at the request of my clients. No one is proud to have been had by a scam or any scam for that matter so I urge you to call me either toll free 1-800-531-6828 so you save money on long distance or on my cell 438-777-2949 to reach me at all times. [Resolved] rip off

Used their services to trace a call. When I got the bill from my credit card, they had conveniently added another 19.95 charge in addition to what I had been billed for trace. "Slavia" at Intelius said she could credit me $5.00 since a billing cycle had passed since charge. Asked if I remembered one of the website pages with a picture of something I didn't recall at all.She indicated that is where I signed up for this monthly charge.Have the invoice for the trace charge, but never bought so don't have invoice for whatever they are billing for now.I am disputing with Mastercard.Maybe they can get somewhere.

I applied to Intelius for a one time $1.95 name and address search. They offered a .95 sale price, which I too quickly clicked on not realizing I had signed on for a $19.95 per month (doubled) for both an ID protection plan and a Search service allowing me to search 100 people per month. I am an individual, not a business, would not be interested in such a thing.. This company comes out of Washington State./ I am writing a letter to Atty General of that state, to complain, and others should do the same. I have been charged $19.95 twice in March and twice in April 2010. Put an end to this scam. Dont use this company. be careful what you click on or "agree" to. I am told I will be refunded, I am waiting to see.

I am very very very disappointed in this company.I did not get the results I expected on April 29th and asked for a refund.I called into customer service and asked for refund, all she did was offer me a free report.I then spoke to supervisor who was no help but then told me how they cant even pull up individual background checks but just everyone they can find in country with that name and you have an optipn for ss number but you they cant legally check with social security or do anything with it.The real kicker is she then told me there was another department in building that helps with employors screening potential employees, maybe this detailed report would help. She furthermore told me she WOULD refund my money if i paid for thier background check. This told me she knew I did not get what I paid for.So, she put me on hold, talked to guy in other office and said she explained to him what was going on, she hung up.As soon as she hung up he said there was nothing he could for me and he did not know what she told me.POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE and false advertising.I want my money back.

I signed up for the so-called 7-day "Free-Trial" with Intelius and discovered the service isn't worth the money. So, well within that first week, I not only cancelled my account on-line, I also wrote Intelius Customer Service for back-up cancellation - they don't make it easy - as well as repeatedly asked for email confirmation of my cancellation request.

No good, they charged me anyway! When I called to complained, they lied out right and said I had called outside the 7-day free trial!!! What a rip=off and liars to boot!! I'm calling the FCC.

Do not use this company for any serach. Sent for telephone info and received only a bill. Repeated efforts to contact were ignored. Called card company and they got me in direct contact. Talked to Uriah @ 1-866-924-6187. Complaint resolved. They did try to charge me $19.95 for some sort of membership but I made them take it off. Took me days to do this and I had to get my CC company involved. I was on this right away. Keep an eye on your CC bills at all times. Does anyone know of a reputable company to use??

Like others have mentioned, intelius pad their charges and my $6.95 purchase turned about to be $26.95 (they tacked on an additional $19.95). Plus the information was not current and their were no phone numbers (as they has stated there were).

If you need a background done use someone else or pay close attention to your bank statement! These guys are thieves! Paying someone else a little more may insure that you won't get billed extra like I did. Also, since the information I requested was old, the search was for nothing. Beware of this company!

[Resolved] charged fees not agreed to

I performed a 3.00 search for an old friend's phone number and address on the Intelius website. I got an outdated address and phone number (around 10 years old), never finding an updated address and phone number through an Intelius search. The agreement stated that my account would be charged 3.00. About one month later my account was charged 19.95 by Intelius. When I called them, they told me that I had agreed to pay for a membership with them. Nothing was mentioned before, after, or during the search about a membership or a charge of 19.95. I told them that I wanted the charge removed, that I did not want a membership with a service I would never use again. I did not agree to it in the first place. Initially, the representative told me that they would simply cancel the account, but would not refund the 19.95. I asked to speak with a manager and the tone changed. The representative then told me that she would talk to her manager herself and see if the money could be refunded. Eventually, the representative came back on the line and told me that all charges would be refunded. I am waiting for the refund to show up on my account.

Beware! Don't trust Intelius agreements. There are most definitely hidden charges. Do not give them your credit card number; who knows how much they will deduct from your account in the end.

Don't believe the Customer Support person who commented on this, at least in part. They are only open til 8pm PST. I'm pretty sure I won't be getting my money back, since what he said here says to cancel within 7 days. I purchased my own driving record, and was sure I wasn't getting the free trial. But more than 2 weeks later I found an extra charge from Intelius on my credit card report. Major fail, Intelius.

I check my online statement daily and saw a pending charge for $19.95 as allot of us here have. I immediately called Intelius and asked them who authorized them to charge my card. They stated that when you select the promotional item there is a note that says this is a 7 day trial and then converts to a regular membership for $19.95. I said to them that the note must be so smal I would need a magnifying glass to see it. They did cancel the membership and because it was pending I didn't lose my $19.95. Had been an actual charge I would have been stuck for a month. You could cancel but, no refund. I got lucky this time.

Do not believe the customer service agent. I ordered one report and was charged $19.95 seven days later and another $19.95 fourteen days later. I did not sign up for any membership even though the customer service agent tried to convince me otherwise.

charged twice

This company (Intelius) is a scam. First I did not get any more info than I got from the phone book. Second they charged me twice. Once you get a membership and get in if you click on another link within the site they charge you for that. I am going to try to have my bank reverse both charges. I would not use this service ever again. I will tell the customer service rep at Intelius I was not satisfied and that this site is rediculous. PLEASE DO NOT EVER USE THIS SERVICE UNLESS YOU LIKE THROWING AWAY YOUR MONEY!!!

[Resolved] received full credit

I called ValueMax about the unauthorized charges that I'm certain were a result of using the Intellius background check service. The first rep offered to cancel and refund the current month's charges, I said I wanted all of it credited going back to 2009 when they started charging my corporate card. Why this was overlooked by me and my company for so long is another issue I know. Anyway I asked to be transferred to a supervisor. The supervisor offered to give an additional 2 months credit. I said one simple thing "I want all of it credited immediatley as these are fraudulent charges"...and she immediatley responded "we will credit your card the full amount, watch for your credit in the next 3-5 days. Dink,
I am calling first thing tomorrow. Just noticed this on my business statement for some time now, the result of using the same type of Intelius service. I went back and re-read terms of service with Intelius and for the lookup fee I see nothing that entitled intelius to send my credit card information to a third party to start billing $24.95 a month! I am FUMING right now, and rest assured, if I am not credited by Intelius or this ValueMax place upon my call, they will wish they never met me and my friends in very very high governmental agencies.

scam, do not use

I when on this website intelius.com last month to do a reverse phone number search, I was told I would be charged $4.95 for the search but that if it did not come back with any information I would be refunded.

To no avail nothing came back in the search and I was told I would not be charged but if I put in my email address they would send me any information that came available on the number I searched.

Needless to say, this month I see a $9.95 charge AND a $19.95 charge! I called customer service and was told that they would refund my $9.95 but could not refund the MEMBERHSIP FEE of $19.95 that I supposively signed up for when I entered my email address.

Upon further investigation I was charge $19.95 last month also! In the end Randy refunded me the $9.95 and says he will refund one of the membership fees of $19.95 which I have yet to receive so I am out $40.00 for a $4.95 search!!! BEWARE THIS SITE IS A SCAM!!!

[Resolved] posting wrong information

Intelius people search has listed me and my address with a person named Nathaniel Brown. Nathaniel Brown is a con-artist. He has been writing bad checks all over Chicago for years and using my address. I am also not related to Dolores, Wendy, Terrance, Jill, Terrence, Terra or Mark Brown. They are publishing false information about me. Intelius is defaming me by listing me as a relative of Nathaniel Brown. Wendy is my neighbor. Terrance was her husband and he is dead. I am not related to these people either. I don't even know who the other people are. Intelius is libeling my name when they associated with a crook. It's bad enough that creditors and stores call here looking for N. Brown. I tell them to get his driver's license. At one point I had to put a message on my answering machine to warn people about N. Brown. Sears had just opened up and I went to charge something. Up comes Nathaniel's name with my address. I told the clerk to flag the name. I just don't need Intelius publishing false information.

[Resolved] pay first, then no results

Beware - Intelius charges you before they will tell you whether or not they have any information on the person you are looking for. After you pay and they charge you for lots of add-ons, you find out that the person cannot be found.

The results contina people with similar names that they do have in their database. But they should first allow you to make sure that the person can be found via a birthdate or other unique information before charging and then producing no results for the search desired.

Quit disappointing for the #1 service of this type!

I agree with the OP. When you look up ANY number before signing up they find the results. The minute you pay to see the detailed results, suddenly the ONLY ones you'll find are for published numbers, nothing else. And the report on those numbers sucks. It listed me as having 13 brothers and sisters and all sorts of addresses I never lived at. Nice job losers.

I signed up just to get one phone number and they charged me $1.95 and then signed me up for a id protect service. They said I signed up and took their trail offer. No I didn't. Total scam. Then I called and they accused me of signing up for their service and got upset when I called it a scam. They take your money. I hope someone takes them to court. Very corrupt company. They take advantage of people just wanting phone numbers. This is what is wrong with this country when people can keep ripping people of like this.

If you select a promotional price on the Intelius website, you will also receive a free 7 day trial of Identity Protect. After the 7 day trial, it will convert to a regular subscription and bill out at $19.95 monthly.

However, there’s no obligation. If you determine within the 7 day trial that you no longer want Identity Protect, you can cancel your service anytime, online or over the phone with a customer support representative.

    IDProtect ID Protect Intellius
I had the same charge - .99 for a report, then a week later, ID Protect charge of $20+/-.
Reputable internet businesses do not convolute their customers web experience with unasked for services with auto-renewal fees. That is poor business practice.
I went into their system and canceled the renewal, then an ad popped up to continue at a lower price. I idd not take the offer (or what I thought was not taking it). Then I check my email and I have a message thanking me for renewing. So, back I went to go through the process again.
Additionally, Intellius bury the ability for you to cancel under links and links. If you're reputable, you put your best foot forward and hope your customer likes what they experience enough to return.
Unfortunately, I will never use Intellius again. They have lost my trust.
I am posting the detail of the charge so others searching for it will know what it is:

I purchased some information Intelius when looking into the criminal history of a prospective tenenant. However, in addition to the purchase I intended, I now get a $19.55 charge per month on that same credit card I used. I think that should be illegal! I do not have the time to fight their dishonesty. Calling them at night does no good; their offices are closed.Calling them in the daytime does not good; everybody is busy.

[Resolved] unauthorized use of name and information

Intellius has misinformation about me and it includes my married name. I am a physician and this can place me and my family in danger. They refuse to remove it unless I fax them information. I refuse to do this and they cannot be reached by phone. Thank you for you help. Leah Thronson M.D.

Don't feel alone. I had a charge against me dismissed and the Judge in the case ordered a non disclosure of the charge and it appeared on Intellius. I notified them and they removed it after a hassle and three weeks. Then, several months later the charge reapoeared and again I had to mail the Court order to them and they finally removed it and I "opted out" of their sites. They kept giving the excuse that the jursidictional court should not be giving the information out and I agreed and I then advised them they have the repsonsibility to make sure the informatiin they release is accurate and if you once send the the court documents proving the records are non disclosed Intellius can block your name out on THEIR system as well. They did not admit that but my attorney says otherwise. They are just using the excuse to blame the judicial system and not their own shortcomings and responsibilities.
I am getting ready to sue them in Federal Court if they do not take permanently remove the records this time and if they think I am kidding, that is their mistake. The law says once you notify them that they have the repsonsibility solely on themselves.

Don't believe a word Intellius says.

They say you can cancel but I can not find the account management page they refer to. I do not know why I have to cancel something I never orderred to begin with. What a hassle and if I were going to get a service such as this now I would never use this one because of this.
