When renting my car, the rental agent offered me additional insurance. I declined stating I had full coverage through American Express. The agent told me that it is impossible to collect on that insurance and I would be held personally responsible for all damage unless I bought their insurance. She then pulled up a log of damage to the car she was renting me. The list of damage was many pages long and the damage recorded included damage that would be noticeable only with enhanced scanners. She said that I would only be eligible for insurance at the time of the rental. Unfortunately, it was after normal business hours and I was unable to confer with American Express. They didn't have the size vehicle I requested and downsized me. The next day we decided that the car would not work and returned to the airport to exchange it. I used that opportunity to cancel the insurance as I had consulted with American Express confirming full coverage. I was told they couldn't cancel the insurance and that I was responsible for the original period of the rental. I didn't accept that. I told them I wanted to close out the original rental and start a new rental. They then tried to tell my my new rental had to have the same coverage. They put a lot of pressure on me but I refused the coverage. Their business practices need to be investigated.
