I rented a car through Economy Bookings and added their full coverage knowing that drivers in Punta Cana are very aggressive so I thought I was covered. Please note my home car insurance covers me for liability. On Nov 19th Zezgo (the car rental company) picked my wife and I up at the airport. Expecting to pick up the car and get on my way. Upon arrival the Zezgo representatives wanted an additional $612US for liability insurance. This is $900 CDN. I did not take the car but received a ride to my hotel. The documentation suggests there may be an "outstanding" amount but I expected them to just ask for their security deposit. This has limited our freedom of movement in the Dominican Republic but paying a total of amount $1600 CDN to rent a little car is beyond realistic. I have since been in touch with Economy Bookings and have comunicated with multiple people who all have delined to refund ny rental amount. I also was told the"full coverage" I purchased was not really insurance. It was a "buffer" that Economy Bookings charges customers in case the rental car insurance does not pay for damages in the case of an accident. So you are actually paying twice for insurance.
