Since I don't have a printer, E-Bay customer service told me to package the item and take it to me local post office for shipment to the seller and the QR code would be read at the site. The briefcase was small (about the size of a computer screen and the box I put it was slightly larger than that but not by much. I sold the item for $75 and the buyer agreed to pay approximately $50 which seemed like a fair deal for such a small item.
No one at E-bay cautioned me about shipping size and I was told to use the Post Office since they had worked out a deal between the two entities so sellers didn't have to pay so much in shipping. You can imagine my surprise when I found out the post officer charge $114 to ship this small box from CA to Georgia and had even taken $8 out of my checking account to cover this excessive shipping charge! I trusted E-Bay customer service to give me correct advice and they didn 't! I had a friend at work who was willing to give me $100 for my case but I thought I could do better at Ebay which proved not to be the case. Instead of selling the case for $100 and ended up having $8 taken out of my account to cover this ridiculous shipping charge.
Ebay customer service was of no help as they told me I should have measured the package and printed a shipping label. That was not what they said when I called them for help (this was the first time I sold anything on E-bay in quite some time) to ship the items. It would have been nice if they had walked me through the procedure as I guess there was a block I could have checked which would have shifted all shipping charges onto the buyer but they didn't do that. They just blithely told me to take it down to the post office and let them scan the QR code for the sake of ease. Very bad advice E-bay and one that cost me $114!
I kindly request that this money be refunded to me as it was EBay's error! If not, I will never use your on-line site again. I was taken advantage of due to my lack of knowledge how this site works and the ethical thing to do would be to refund me for the amount of the shipping charge listed above. Let's hope E-bay is the ethical company I trust that it is.
Desired outcome: Refund of the excessive shipping charge of $114.
