I have been with direct tv for 2 years. I just called to cancel my service due to the fact that I am a renter and take the service that the landlord allows at his property.
I recently called to cancel.
I was told that it would take 6 to 8 months to return and overpayment $90+ to my checking account.
They told me they would send a box for the equipment to be returned. The last time this happened the boxes never came. Wait a week and if that doesn't happen mail it yourself usps rrr and insured.
1) it only takes them a nanosecond to remove a payment due from you account when you are paying them but 6 to 8 months to return it?
2) they take you payment in advance for service you haven't even had. This is another ripoff allowed by our country, government or somebody to exist for another corporate thief. I've had enoough.
I would suggest that if this happens to you, to save e-mails to and from them for your records.
Any products you return to be sent return receipt requested (They use fedx so you need to find out if they have that service, it not use the mail and send parcel post, insured and rrrequested. Save reciept.
All your congressman or woman and express your feelings.
I hope this helps someone out there and happy new year.

When i signed up for service i was told that i had a one year contract. Four months later i wanted to cancel service the contract changed to two years. i cancelled my service and i was charged for a whole month that i did not use because i cancelled on 03/22 and billing cycle ends on the 20th. A month later my aact was charged 272.0 for cancellation charges i never received any bill or statement from them just money out of my acct. This is the worst company to do business with.

DirectTv was supposed to be installed on 9/9/08. We are on our 3rd installation visit and second installer. First installer did not know what he was doing. Completely did it wrong. PLUS DirectTV added Sunday NFL Ticket to our bill at $74.99 per month for 4 months without our permission. We did not order the Sunday NFL Ticket and would never order it since we only watch college football, we do not watch NFL. So they are charging us for something we never ordered and will not use. We have already received our first bill although our service has on 10/6/08 still not been hooked up correctly. We are being charged for HD Dvr and still do not have HD or DVR service. At this point, only have regular box in one room. We were supposed to get HD Dvr in living room and regular in one bedroom.

When i subscribed to directtv i was told what great service they provide, etc. When i called to find out why my bill was 41.50 more than it should have been i was told NFL ticket was added to my account. I did not order this and hate the NFL. When i called to try and get this taken off and canceled, I was told by the "Phillipine" office that they would not do this. Even though i did not order it. they rip you off. I will see you in court, you ### suckers. I have a perfect 2-0 record looking to make it 3-0 at your expense.

The company is charging us for a sports package that was cancelled by us. Customer service is horrible! They must be trained to deal with people by a bunch of rip off artists. You can't get anywhere with them. They don't want to hear about your problem. They are there just to monitor your call. I can't wait to get rid of this company.

I am a disabled senior citizen and I moved to an area that Direct tv does not service.so a week after I moved they took $313.94 from my checking acct.saying I would still have to pay the mo.charge for 18 mos.even though I will not be using the service.I never signed anything agreeing to this, and they sent a form in the bill explaining this and I did not sign to agree.I called them and talked to a supervisor named John employee #1002 and he tried to tell me why they charged for something I cannot use. This is against the law! Some how this is illegal and how can this company make you pay for a service you can't use? I will dispute this and sue them.Meanwhile do not sign up with Direct tv, they will rip you off.

Direct TV is the WORST company to deal with. Don't ever replace or upgrade your existing equipment because they will extend the contract for another 2 years! from the date of installation. It does not matter how you were promised over the phone regarding price or no extended contract. Direct TV does not honor what they told you. They LIED over the phone to get you. I have been there customer for two years. I called in to discuss about lowering my bills. They offered me to upgrade my package and replaced a HD receiver at lower price. My first bill came 2 weeks after and became even higher ( $72/mo.) due to the upgraded package ( which the rep. promised to give me a better deal at $44.99, but never happened) and furthermore I have a new contract extended till Oct. 27, 2012 ( 2 years from now) instead of Jan. 10, 2010 originally although I was told that there would be no contract extended . I was confirmed before ordering that no contract would be extended. I called them right away on Nov. 13 to dispute the monthly fee. They refused to honor so I requested to return the equipment in order to pay the same price and have the same contract. THEY SAID "NO". I called in and talked to 6-7 different people. Finally I talked to Sandra (id# [protected]), she issued the Recover Kit/Call Tag to return the equipment on Nov. 21 and promised to date back my contract to the original date. I was thinking that everything was settled. I called last night (12/30/09), I was told that I still have a 2 yr. contract with them. I finally talked to Disconnection Dept.# after going through several people and still having no solution. I spoke with the Rep. named "Kit"( ID # 432606) . He told me that he found my extended contract of those 2 years was invalid so I could cancel without termination fee and the cancellation # was R21-5486. I emailed to Direct TV to confirm the conversation with Kit. I also requested Kit to email me the confirmation of our conversation. He never emailed. Direct TV also replied via email that I still have a contract till 2012. I am so mad. They are so deceitful. STAY AWAY FROM THEM. THEY ARE UNETHICAL. I HATE THEM.

Complete FRAUD! These guys said we own the equipment we just purchased from them 1 month ago and it does not work! When we call them to have them fix it, we waited on hold for over 1 hour just be told a service call would cost $250 to go out to correct the problem. Sounds like they purposely make the satellite not work, then just blame it on our equipment that we purchased from them! Horrible attitudes and service! Chris (Badge # 1774) from Direct TV said she does not have a boss and cannot provide her last name due to company policy. A total rip off and fraud!

I ordered direct tv from a newspaper flyer. The installer did a professional job but the attitude of Direct Tv was totally different than professional. They were billing me at twice the agreed upon rate. I cancelled. Now the rubber is going to meet the road-they didn't keep their part of the bargain and they still want paid. Fortunately in Pennsylvania we have a small claims court system that runs in most instances very fairly.

I feel cheated. I was promised a 25.00 Amazon gift sertificate if I took their movie program for at least three months. I did for 4 months but only got a run a round about the certificate. I've been a customer 13 years and have to pay for any upgrades but if I were a new customer I would get all this free plus 29.00 off my bill for one year. How fair is that. I pay close to 100 a month autopay from my credit card. Just doesn't add up to me. Dish is looking better every day.

We upgraded our DTV service recently, Have had DTV for years, and honestly have loved their service. Never have problems at all, but we wanted the HDTV whole house dvr thing. My husband took off work and they never came, then they rescheduled and he took off work again, and they failed to show. FINALLY they came the third time but didnt have the HDTV receivers with them even though that is clearly stated in the work order. So Directv was reasonable and gave us alot of stuff for free, and had the new receivers shipped to our house instead. The guy came, installed everything but said it was customary for them to take the old receivers with them to "recycle" them. Stupid us. This guy activated those receivers on our account. We called cust serv who denied this would ever happen, and asked why we gave the boxes back. uhhhh. So they took the receivers off. Then the receivers were activated again a few days later. We called and had them removed. It happened yet AGAIN. I was livid. But they refused to reprimand the installer. So we had no choice but to password protect our account. They gave us another discount for the problems. I love my new HD service regardless if their reps are d-bags.

if you have a contract make sure to read the fine print and go over it tooth and nail. If they are violating their own policy then you have a case.
if the initial transaction was over the ph. call your credit card company and dispute the charge.

Direct TV is such a big time company, but the things that do to get money are aweful. I have the stories and I am in the same boat. Yesterday I called my bank and notice that I had a huge overdraft of 510.00 (because of some kind of early cancelation fee)due to direct tv. I didn't ask them to remove this money from my account and they did not inform me that they were going to do so. I am so upset with this company and I know nothing good is going to come to them. stay away

Take them to small claims court. That will get their attention.

TO: All intereted parties, DIRECTV, and the common
men and women!
I was involved in a major MVA(moter Vehicle accident. I have had over 10 surgeries and can only wor part time as a telemarketer, or other sedentary positions. Power Direct a call service contracted to market DTV had me in training for a week. Power Direct in Cleveland, Lakewood, and Old Brooklyn accused me of cheating on an open book Quiz! When I
asked them to produce substantial and explicit proof
they made me take an oral test ina seperate room 10 minutes after questioning MY ethics!.DO not blame dtv for all of this because the call center I was terminated from is teaching the telephone sales reps to lie about the NFL blackout rules! I faxed my information to the office of the president of Dircect TV
after I recieved a phone call on August 31st 2008 from Teresa in DTV'S main office. They(Power Direct)
is telling potentiol customers that no game can evr be blacked out. When I mentioned that the NFL sets the blackout rules, they responded by telling me to go home and do my homework. The next day I came to the training class showed the trainee the blackout rules and that was the beginning of the end for me.
As I stated I am also contacting the NFL office of the
commish and a local ABC invetigative reporter. Go to Directv.com and look at the blackout rules set by the NFL. I was then flunked on both quizzez, and told to leave the building. If they are using this tactic to me.
Just imagine what they are going to do (Power Direct)
to are mother's and father's who are completely uneducated about digital tv. I have kept Directv, because before my accident I installed their service and it is the best. DON'T CALL ANYBODY BUT THE
FOWLLOWING NUMBER ...[protected]) Maybe
their idoits at the call center will free up The NFL Sunday Ticket for Dish and cable. Feel free to respond
the more complaints the bigger the chance for once the little guy might have a chance! Hammer that phone number and ask them about ethics!
