2 years ago I signed up for classmates.com When it was time for renewal, I tried repeatedly to cancel without success. They have taken the liberty of deducting the annual fee automatically from my checking acct. I do not wish to continue membership with this company. Repeatedly I have logged on to their website, entered my e-mail address along with my password, and have repeatedly been denied access into my account to cancel, they tell me that my password is wrong, which it isn't . Now I have their telephone # due to a deduction from my checking account recently, their # is [protected]. I would like my money back, my e-mail is don.[protected]@sbcglobal.net

I agree with Rachael6227, it was clearly stated. After I signed up for a discounted one year membership, I went to the settings page and changed it to Manual so that I wouldn't be charged again if I didn't like Classmates.com

Its not in Fine print. It is bold and highlighted in yellow directly above the submit button when you are purchasing your membership. It is In the same size font as the rest of the page. All you have to do is follow the instructions they give you to change your account to Manual. So if you purchase a membership online use the instructions that are provided for you so your account will not renew. Classmates fee's are non-refundable and that is all put in bold and highlighted also. You have no one to blame but yourself and your lack of reading skills. I dont pity any of you, suck it up people. You made a mistake and it cost you money.

I think there is something in their 'fine print' about auto renewal... I know it can be a pain, but one answer might be to work with your credit card company to close that account and get a new card. Then they can't do any more auto renewals... also there might be a way to work with your cc company to tell them you are not authorizing any further payment to Classmates.com

My credit card account arrived with an unknown $39.00 charge and in place of a name there was what I now know was the tel. no of Classmates. [protected] When I logged onto my acct. it verified that they had automatically credited my card without my knowledge. As I have been dissatisfied with Classmates since joining I had no intention of renewing my subscription how can I request a refund? Is it legal to automatically deduct funds without the apporval of the owner of the card?

Since Classmates is losing market share to such free websites as Facebook & MySpace - they have employed methods to screw us and keep us as members. I signed up years ago and have not used it in years. Previously I always received and email asking if I wanted to renew. Today I was just charged and told I was on auto renewal, which I am not.

What can we do?

I received me billing from my credit card company and was shocked to find a charge from classmates for renewal after I had cancelled my account several months ago. I do not have any intetest in staying a member as most of my friends from that era are deceased. I expect a credit of $39.00 on my next creddit card statement. WWW.MYLIFE.COM...WWW.REUNION.COM ...WWW.MYLIFE.COM

I am an attorney researching the business practices of WWW.MYLIFE.COM, WWW.REUNION.COM and WWW.MYLIFE.COM . I am interested in their practices as it relates to the unauthorized SCRAPING OF EMAIL ADDRESS BOOKS.

Pending my review, consideration of legal action shall be evaluated. I located your complaint from a google search of all those complaining about reunion.com and my life.com . Any information you may provide would be helpful so as for me to understand the issues, but response should not be considered as developing an attorney-client relationship. I merely need to obtain information.

Here's a few questions:
1) Did you join the dating portion of these sites and have any issues and concerns?

2) were you enticed to visit any of these websites after an email came to you, appearing like it was from a friend, inviting you to join?

3) do you feel the terms of service and privacy policy noted on the site explained what exactly they were going to do to your email addresses?

4) Were your email address contacts emailed an invitation to join after receiving an invitation which claimed you sent them the invite?

5) how has your involvement damaged your reputation or any finacial losses?

6) Were you contacted by any other companies associated with any of these sites claiming that you had joined their site also, being sent marketing info from companies, ASKING FOR YOUR TELEPHONE NUMBER, OR RECEIVING MONTHLY CHARGES TO YOUR TELEPHONE BILL?

So as to support my interest and qualify my identity, I would refer you to a few of my recent cases I filed, so that you can confirm that I do represent individuals in internet privacy matters. Google my recent cases:

lane v facebook,
valentine v nebuad
simon v adzilla
slater v tagged.com

Once you locate these cases, review the atorneys noted, and then confirm I have the same email as the attorney noted on the lawsuit:

"Attorney Joseph H Malley
malleylaw@gmail.com"

Please feel free to contact me in confidence to discuss any issues. As noted at this point I am merely researching and discussing complaints to determine if there is any allegations of merit.
Thanks

Followup.

After exhaustive email exchanges with Member Service, it is clear that they are an outsourced unit in a foreign country, and are just parroting a script they have been given.

I filed a dispute with my credit card company, but that yielded no results.

I will be mailing a formal written complaint to the Washington State Attorney General's Office tomorrow, but I doubt that will do any good.

I will post again if I get any positive results.

I have been with Classmates for years and have had no problems. Why don't you go here: http://www.classmatesmedia.com/company/management.jsp#Steven

This page will give you several people to get ahold of.
Good luck and if you have any more problems, maybe I can help.

Do not go near Reunion.com. They are a rip off. and you really cannot get hold of them.
