Classmates $39.00 was charged to my bank account without my authorization

I was checking my bank acct online and noticed a $39 charge from classmates.com that I did not authorize, so i called the number listed beside their name on my acct. I told them that I did not authorize the charge and that the money needed to be returned to my acct in full. The man I was speaking to said that if I had read closely when I registered for the one year trial for $9.95 that no refunds will be given for any reason, I told him I did not authorize this and that the money needed to be put back then asked to speak to a manager. He put me on hold came back and said all managers were busy helping other people, I said I would hold for one. He said he couldnt keep me on hold, but would check to see if a manager was yet available, came back and said they were not. I told him again, very angry at this point, that my money needed to be put back in full because I would not and did not ever ok this. He told me it was oked when I set up my year trial. That it's there in the print that when you ok the year trial you are giving them authorization to take money out in a years time. I told him I would never have agreed to that, that I had found the person I was looking for and had opted out of any future things from them. I also told him that both my daughter and I are disabled and on a very tight budget and we need that money to pay bills, buy food and such and did he understand this. He said he did understand but there was nothing he could do and that if I didnt calm down he would have to end the call. I again asked to speak to a manager and he terminated the call. I had already gone to my bank and filled out the dispute paperwork for the charges. I called my fiance on my way home to tell him what classmates had said and he told me to call the bank and update them and see what they had to say. my fiance then proceeded to do some research online about classmates and found hundreds upon hundreds of complaints against them for the same thing they had done to me! We found a site called Internet Crime Complaint Center that is linked to the FBI's website complaints. my fiance suggested I call classmates.com back and tell them that I had Internet Crime Complaint Center website up and if they did not give my money back immediately I would be filling a complaint on the that website and that it is linked to the FBI. The woman I was speaking to got very anxious at that point and said that it wasnt all that serious and I didnt need to go to that extreme. I said yes it is that serious! You stole money from my account and you need to put it back! She them said that the man I had spoken to was only doing his job, but given the "special circumstances" of my life she would refund my money and that if I did file a complaint to "be sure and let everyone know how helpful classmates.com was and that they refunded my money when they didnt have to." My daughter witnessed all this as I had my phone on speaker and she was sitting here for the entire second conversation. DO NOT GIVE UP! DO YOUR RESEARCH AND LET THEM KNOW YOU WILL BE FILLING COMPLAINTS, AND NOT JUST WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU! THEY DONT SEEM TO CARE ABOUT THAT, BUT THEY SURE DONT WANT TO BE REPORTED TO THE FBI! Do NOT use this site (classmates.com). Same problem as the other reviewers...no prior notice before billing your credit card, and from what I read, no refund once they have. Plus no way to contact them by phone to try and get cancellation resolved. Thats bs! I will NEVER use any of their affiliated sites either. Scammers at this point in time...stick to facebook. Ripoff, ripoff, ripoff.

I have been charged 2 times after I canceled. I did
everything they told me to do. I was billed in March
on one credit card. Then again in May on another
credit card. I’ve been e-mailing and calling for over
2 months. They keep saying they cant’ refund
any of my money.

I did not renew my membership what can I do?

I was automatically billed $39 for an account that I used once last year. I didn't knowingly sign up for auto bill. The only way to quit is online where there are plenty of warning notes about not recouping your membership fee for quitting because of the terms of service. Its underhanded and they are ripping off a lot of folks.

Joined Classmates for 9.95 trial period and have now been charged 39.00 + for services which have NOT been used. I now see many others in the same situation but no success in stopping them from autocollection. Can anything be done?

Was charged in Nov for unauthorized billing which had been canceled 39.99 complained and c anceled again they debited my account 39.99 in Dec now my bank statemnet shows another debit charge of 39.99 for Jan either get this fixed or I will go on every TV and ONLINE and show what a theif you are for an old lad y pension

After having cancelled this service because it did not locate anyone I was looking for, I was still billed $39.00 I believe I have been unjustly taken advantage of.

TWICE CLASSMATES.COM HAVE WENT INTO MY BANK ACCOUNT AND WITHDREW MONEY NOT ONLY WITHOUT MY CONSENT BUT AFTER I SENT THEM AN E-MAIL ABOUT IT THE FIRST TIME. I AM GOING TO THE BANK TOMORROW TO SEE ABOUT FILING CRIMINAL CHARGES.

I was billed on Nov 17/10 US$15.73 in error because I discontinued any connection with classmates.com. Please return this amount to me. I have tried to do this on-line and by telephone and get the message by phone that the office is closed due to of-site meeting. I will persist until this is rectified. I'm sure many people must just give up in frustration, BUT I will not!

Charges were made to my credit card in December, 2010, for $39.00 renewal to Classmates.com. This account was my husbands and he died April 27, 2010.
I went to site Classmates.com and asked that this be cancelled and the charge refunded to my credit card. They advised this could not be done. I tried to call this date [protected], and was advised they could not speak to anyone but the name on the account. Pretty impossible, isn't it?

classmates.com charged me 39.95 without my permission.i had already CANCELLED anything i had with them. tried calling and never get through..they say your wait will take a extremly long time. i know i will get my refund, even if i have to go to their headquarters and get it.

Classmates unauthorized charges

Classmates had a special deal last year which I accepted. It was for one year and renewal was optional. This month my Paypal account showed a $39.00 charge, which I did not authorize, nor was I notified of any renewal or charge put on my card. I contacted these guys about the charge and spoke to a guy named David. He stated the charge was non-refundable. I told him I guess I"ll have to file a complaint like everyone else. I received no response and hung up. These guys (Memory Lane) take over classmates and automatically have access to everyone's data and do whatever they want. That's not right.

Classmates unauthorized withdrawl from my bank account

I had joined Classmates.com, now Classmates-Memory Lane for one session. When checking my bank account, I had noticed they had made an unauthorized withdrawl in the amount of $15.00 to my account. I did contact the bank to tell them this was unauthorized and to please not pay it. They gave me the phone number to Classmates-Memory Lane. I contacted them on 8/25/11 and talked to Scott at 11:30 am. He informed me there was always an automatic renewal fee, but that he would take my name off for future withdrawls. I told him that was fine, but I also wanted reimbursed for the $15.00 they had just taken. He said they could not do that. I then informed him I would contact my financial institution, and let them take care of it. He then put me on hold. He came back to the phone within about 3 minutes and informed me they would reimburse the charges, but it could take up to 30 days. I said that was fine, just so long as I was reimbursed. I then recontacted my bank, and they said great. It will be put on hold until the reimbursement is issued.

ClassMates- Memory LANE,
iT Appears this Web Site is charging my credit card for services that I have not applied for. It appears to be fraud on their account and the site needs to remburse my account in full. I personally did not open any account with this site. On my billing cycle for this month its showing a fee of $ 17.00 . I am not sure how long they have been billing this account. The refrence #is 55432866K008MWWDW. They need to rembures me promptly.

Classmates unauthorized charge to my VISA - 39.00

I paid original 9.95 for the membership but Ihave not used this website in many, many months because it is of no use to me. On 8/20/2011 my VISA was charged 39.00 and it wasnt until I contacted my bank that I found out what this charge is. I have made my bank aware of this unauthorized charge. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES IS THIS COMPANY AUTHORIZED TO MAKE THIS CHARGE TO MY VISA! I want the funds put back on my card ASAP. Not in 7 to 10 business days since it didnt take them 7 to 10 business days to illegally charge my card. I am extremely pissed since this was done to my card while my family and I are on vacation!33B7D

Classmates unauthorized charge $39

I'm one of thousands that was charged $39 for Memory Lane that I didn't authorize. I had used Classmates for $9.95 and apparently it was taken over by Memory Lane. Even though it says they have no debit card information they were able to steal $39 from my account. I called to get the charge reverse and Memory Lane said once it is on there they cannot reverse it. Bull****! After talking to a superviser, they were able to make a "one time exception" and refund $35. Now let's see if they actually do what they say they will do! I cancelled my debit card just to make sure they can never STEAL from me again.

I am one of many who was charged $39 for a membership I never authorized. They refused to reverse the charge. This is an unethical company, perhaps illegally using bank information. I contacted the credit card company, and I also vowed to get the word out about this shady and shoddy operation.

I contacted classmates memory lane twice and talked to two different people and neither could find a recorded of my account but yet $39.00 dollars was charged to my credit card. I called my credit card company and they told me that they will take care of it. So I feel assured that I will get a refund.

I to have had unauthorized charges coming off on my credit card. I want these charges of $38.73 credited back to me. I was not aware of any changes taking place with Classmates. I do not use it and want my money back now.

Classmates Never ordered

I have never had any dealings with this company and on July 15, 2011, a charge of $39.00 shows up on my credit card. They have no toll-free number and everytime I call I am told they are having a longer than usual wait. No address available. Do we have to take these people to Small Claims Court when they use these SCAMS?

Classmates false membership statements

I had an old membership with Classmates.com several years ago (2009) and stopped renewal after that... since the highschool reunion had come and gone.

Then this gets sold to Memory Lane, and I see a recent charge on my otherwise zero-balance credit card.

I never signed up with Memory Lane and did not authorize this renewal charge. I called them up, and told them so - and the response was that it was not their policy to refund, and brazenly said they do not send email invoices or reminders before they charge you either... and essentially told me 'too bad.'

That was stupid of them - now they will get as many internet complaints logged as humanly possible, a BBB complaint filed with their local BBB office in Californa, in ADDITION to a dispute filed with my Credit Card company.

Classmates Was charged $39.00 renewal with no notice

Glad I checked this website! Thank you for the info for the phone number for Classmates/Memory Lane, as it is difficult if not impossible to find on their website. When emailing them about the issue, you only receive a generic response. I had joined Classmates gold membership last year for $10. I was not aware that the account was set for automatic renewal, and without any notice, I was charged $39.00. Heeding the advice from others on this website, I called and was able to have $36.00 of it refunded (I wish I had caught this a few weeks earlier).

Classmates Unauthorized Payment

I was just checking my bank account, and came across a debit transaction that is still pending for 59$ from Classmates Memory Lane. I have no clue what this is from, I was never a member of Classmates.com and am pretty pissed that they are taking money from my account without my knowledge. Everyone should be checking their accounts to make sure this didn't happen to them too! My bank won't do anything until the debit is actually posted to my account...

This company is automatically billing my account without notifying in advance if I so wish to continue, I have not received anything from them via email and as of todate I request that they cease any further information and that hereafter I am no longer billed for any further services.

Classmates unauthorized withdrawal of money from credit card without notification

I signed up for only 3 months for 15.00 dollars "Classmates.com" After the 3 months assumed that the company would email me towards my end of 3 months. My computer was down a few days and was unable to notify them of cancellation just in case something like this would happen. I signed no authorization and as far as I'm concerned, that they can just help themselves out of your account when all they should have to do is cancel my membership. I wasn't even a member. It was a trial thing. Am I about to be ripped off again because of technicalities or just bein' ignorant? I called the company and the person refused to reimburse my transaction back into my credit card. I was only 2 days past the 3 months according to them. It's not just the money. It's the principle and legal scams these people get away with. I had to find the right info in order to discontinue the automatic withrawal inwhich I didn't even know about. Without joining first there is no info about this kind of process. Then it's to late to cancel.

ANytime you deny a charge on your CC they have to take it off. It remains off unless the company can prove that you owe them. So you should call the company and tell them you never authorized the charge and that it was fraud for them to do so, and then call your CC and have the charge reversed until its all figured out. I'm not a lawyer, but I have done it before and it has worked.

I tried to contact Classmates/Memory Lane (CML) about a billing on my account that was not authorized by me, here's what they ask me to do. Re-register all pertinent information including card information so that I may then go to accounts information to cancel a membership to which I never belonged to begin with. They have so little info on my ghostly account that I cannot access it without re-registering. If you do re-register it shows up as a new account and you cannot erase your old account without a password that you do not have, and so it goes. I am trying to contact these people by letter and phone. [protected] is the billing number I have. I'm sure it is no good . CML if you are listening, cancel everything with my name on it. CML had a sujestion box on their website, but I could not access it. If this complaint site can do anything for me, please help all of us who have been taken advantage fo. Thanks Robert Hayne.

Try this: My PayPal account was charged $39. When I called to cancel they told me that I agreed to this and the subscription charge was clearly stated on the top of the agreement. I never made an agreement with Memory Lane and it was not auto renewed with Classmates. He refused to refund the fee. I asked him if he had ever rented a car, and that did he know that if the insurance didn't cover an accident, he agreed to allow them to attach his home and place a garnishment on his wages. He told me he was aware of this. That is funny since I made it up! When I asked to talk to a supervisor or a person that had the authority to issue a refund he folded and magnanimously did me the favor of a "one time only" credit of the $39.

Classmates unauthorized billing

I joined Classmates.com with the 5.00 basic service. Now that Memory Lane has taken over Classmates.com, they (Memory Lane) has taken it upon themselves to auto draft 39.-- out of my bank account with out any authorization or opportunity to upgrade, which I would NEVER do as I used Classmates.com less than 10 times even at the 5.00 basic membership. I want a credit of the 39.-- back into my bank account. I assure you there are a HUGE amount of people feeling just as I am. It is lowdown and I hope everyone will cancel their membership, gives Classmates.com a very bad name. I am serious about this, I want my money back.

This company was authorized to make a one-time charge of $6.95 in March 2011, but has made an unauthorized charge in each month since. I cannot locate an address or contact to the company to stop these transactions. I have submitted a dispute claim with my credit card issuer.

what a scam! I called to get a refund and they said once it's been charged there is nothing they can do...so I asked for a supervisor who said "ok, we will make a one time exception and refund you $35". Why do I not trust that this will actually be refunded? I cancelled my debit card so they at least will never be able to STEAL from me again.

Ditto, same happened to me. I enrolled in a 3 mo. membership 2 years ago and did not renew because I didn't use it. Now my credit card has been charged $59.00 without authorization. I can't find anything on the site that is $59.00. I work for attorneys and am going to talk with them about a class action lawsuit Monday when I get to work. Also I would suggest that everyone that has been ripped off by this entity contact prosecutors to bring criminal charges for fraud and deception;

Memory Lane just charged my credit card $39 for a renewal that I did not authorize. I've never heard of this outfit, and was never a member. They have apparently taken over Classmates, where I had a one year membership, and are automatically renewing accounts without authorization. Their website says you can cancel at any time, but they do not refund membership fees. How can they legally get away with this? Is there any recourse? Carole DiStefano

Classmates Unauthorized charges on my credit card

On my credit card statement of [protected] I was charged $39.00 for a membership to this website. I have not authorized this nor do I belong to the website. I do not know how they aquired my Credit Card #. I have reported this to my Credit card and also to the Indiana State Attorney Generals Office. I hope that all who have had this experience will do the same no matter what state they may live in. This is the only way we can get them to revoke their license to sell on the internet through the state.

Classmates has been taken over by memory lane and the new website is using credot card information stored on the former site To automatically renew, without notice, memberships in the new site. They did it before even notifying me of the new site, thereby Denying the right of refusal.

Classmates took $39 out of my account without authorization

Do not subscribe to Classmates.com. As you can see from the comments that this company takes money out of your account or makes charges that they are authorized to. I hope someone has a law suit going that will stop this. Beware of Classmates.com and the phone number is [protected] for them. I have never used this service so I am paying $39.00 for a service that I have not and will use. I have notified my bank to stop payment on this unauthorized charge and I am hoping they can do that. Final notice beware of Classmates.com.

Classmates no way to cancel

The telephone number you have to call is not an 800 number, so I have been calling and the wait time is forever, no way to get through to them.
I tried on-line and still no way to cancel.
They charged my credit card, which is how I knew they were signing me up for another year.
I tried to file a complaint with the credit card company, because the credit card they had, had been cancelled, but I guess
The credit card company automatically transfers to the new credit card. But they filed my complaint to classmates, and guess what classmares said I did not contact them... How is that possible?

Classmates billing

I signed up with classmates a few years ago. If you don't want them to charge your credit card, then cancel your membership via phone [protected]) and get a cancellation number to give to the credit card company if they charge you the following year. You can not get a refund until you cancel them prior to your renewal. You and I will have to eat the charge until you do the cancellation. I included their phone number and also go to your personal/account page and delete any credit card info you have on their. Make sure to keep the cancellation number someplace to give to the credit cared company incase they charge you the following year.
