disrespectful treatment
A few weeks ago I went into the Canadian Tire store in Langford to buy some paint and while it was mixing I went to use their washroom. I was in a hurry - I had a date to get to and I had a dress to change into along with my handbag with make up and phone in it…
In the washroom, the floor was wet and strewn with toilet paper. I looked around for somewhere to hang my dress and handbag while I used the toilet and to my frustration there was no hook and no counter… the best I could do was balance the stuff on the end of a sink sticking out from the wall to keep it off the floor… I'm using the toilet, when to my horror I see that the faucet is running (automatic sensor had silently turned the tap on) and soaking my dress… I grab my dress and under it my handbag which in a matter of moments had filled with water.. and my wallet, makeup bag and worst of all my iPhone (6months old) are swimming in water… In dismay I am trying to empty the contents, but there is nowhere to put anything other than the sink… the floor gets soaked.. my dress is soaked, my iPhone is wrecked and I am distraught.
The phone, aside from all the personal content of contacts, photos etc, also had the address of where I was going to meet my date and his phone number… my evening was a total disaster… I couldn't change into the sopping dress… I was really really late because I was driving around looking for the place and I arrived distraught… that was the most expensive pot of paint I ever bought.
The next day (Monday) I thought I should tell them in Canadian Tire about the incident which, if they had only had a hook in he washroom would never have happened. I asked to speak to the manager of the store and was told he was off for the next two days.. so I spoke to some other floor manager. He said, oh, thats terrible, I'll get a hook put in there right away… and that I should come back on Wednesday to speak to the store manager.
On Wednesday I returned to the store… noted that no hook had yet been installed… and the Manager was not available. I eventually managed to speak with him on the phone later that day. He wasn't very sympathetic… he said, well, you have to accept some responsibility for the accident, you can't blame Canadian tire for putting your stuff in the sink.. but let me speak to the Owner and I'll get back to you on Friday… maybe we can help you with something towards the phone…
On Friday I didn't hear from him. I left a message towards the end of the day requesting that he call me. On Saturday and Sunday I also left messages, but heard nothing back. I assumed that Monday and Tuesday were his days off and on Wednesday went into the store to see if I could speak to him. I was told that Wednesday and Thursday were his days off… but maybe someone "upstairs" could talk to me instead. Eventually a lady came along and said the Manager had actually handed my case over to her to deal with and apparently she had left me a message the day before… (I checked and yes, she had, but it was so unclear, I had no idea who she was). She said that we needed to contact the head office in Toronto to see how to deal with this - that she would call them and I should also call them.. and she gave me the number. I took her into the washroom and enacted what and how events unfolded .. noting that there was STILL no hook in the washroom.. and pointing this out to her… and she said, yes, they needed to get a hook installed for sure….
The following day (Thursday), I called the head office in Toronto and detailed the incident and how distressing it was and how expensive it was for me as a single (sole) parent of 3 children and having returned to college, to cover the cost of a new iPhone, and how I would really really appreciate if Canadian Tire could help me with the cost of this… and that that was the least they could do, since really, my bag was wrecked, my wallet was still drying out, my receipts all washed out and my makeup in poor shape after the incident… The woman I spoke with said, of course, she understood my distress, and would get back to me by Friday after discussing with ..(whoever)…
On Friday someone from Head Office called and said they had reviewed the incident and felt no obligation whatsoever for the incident and that is the end of the discussion.
I was curious to see 3 or 4 weeks later if they had got around to the hook yet.. and once again there was still no hook. I thought I would write to the Owner and tell him that I was disappointed that Canadian Tire hadn't stepped up to help with the cost of the phone, but I was insulted that they had not put a hook in the bathroom after the incident.. that it really showed a disregard for the distress the incident had caused me and a disrespect for me showing that I didn't matter…. I went online to retrieve his contact information and there, on their website cover page it says FIRST THING…

There was no email address for him and I wanted this to be in writing. I called the store, but they would not provide me with a direct email for him… I had to go through the woman if the office I had dealt with before. I emailed him requesting that he contact me regarding a matter of concern that I would like to bring to his attention. I got a reply from him shortly after which said his staff had already filled him in with the incident and they felt there was no need for further consideration. I wrote back again, saying that I was writing about the HOOK and how it had not been installed yet.. and how insulting this was to me, and in the light of their claim on the website to care, could he please give me the courtesy of a reply and tell me how come no hook had been installed yet and how exactly they have shown me they 'care'. Naturally I have not had a reply. (I can forward you this correspondence).
I cannot tell you how rude I think this is, and that they really cannot claim to care after the shoddy treatment I have received… rude, insulting, inconsiderate and unsympathetic. I have been a customer at Candadian Tire for 15 years or more and have spend 10s of thousands of dollars in their stores… I had a farm business and house renovation business in Ontartio for many years with my husband (before his passing)… and we literally spent many many thousands of dollars in their store. I did tell this to the Langford store and the head office, that I have been a very good and long time customer… I really cannot believe that this is how they treat me.
I would really love to hear back from you with your opinion about this and to let me know if there is any course of action I can take… I really don't feel inclined to let them get away with this easily and consider them to be lying when they say they care.. false claims!
3 damaged rim
My father had his tires changed at the Canadian Tire in Oromocto, NB and had 3 of his rims damaged. One is dented, the other has been cracked and the 3rd has been scuffed.
When he brought this to the manager's attention the following day by going in to show the damage, the manager "Troy Frigon" asked to see his other tires to see if there would be any scuffs or paint that would show damage prior to having the tires changed, the tires were brought in and examined which showed no prior damage or hitting a curb as was suggested about the dent, in the meantime the manager also made calls to find out what the rims were worth and when he found out they cost $1, 000.00 for a set of 4 he called the owner "Garry Fitch" to brief him of the situation and the owner said that he would not approve of this and that there was no proof that this had been done during the tire change.
My father purchased his truck 2 months ago and his been shinning it everyday, therefore those damaged rims would have been noticed and brought back to the dealers. We also had the rims inspected by a mechanic who said that this damage was definitely made with the equipment used to change the tires and was able to show us how this could of happened, the marks line up perfectly.

I once bought a toaster and a lamp for my Canadian cottage at Canadian Tire. I had no idea they sold tires, eh?
liars who over charge
I just got back from taking my mom to pick up her van from Canadian Tire South in Red Deer Alberta.
Bit of a back story. My grandparents gave my mom their old van. My mom's was about to die and they bought a new truck. My grandpa took it in for an inspection in BC where they live and was told everything was fine. He gets the inspection done here in Alberta and walks out with a $1000 bill. Needless to say he was beyond angry. My mom then did not realize that it was only good for 14 days. 14 Days come and go and she realizes she needs to get it done again. She calls in two days ago and the guy tells her that they will charge her the cheaper price of $170 to get the inspection done. She takes the van in yesterday and she is told the same thing i regards to the price.
We go to pick it up last night and we are told it is $240. We explained the situation and what we were quoted at to which he tells us that it is a government regulated price (lie) and he can not do anything. He then told us we could come back today and talk to a manager.
We go back today and the manger tells us that he can not charge us less (lie) because of the type of vehicle we have. We asked why we were quoted both times at a lower price when they called up our information and looked at the vehicle type. All he said was "Well they should not have done that". He then goes into the account and tells us it is paid for. We are both confused because neither of us paid for it. We figured my grandpa might have called in and paid via credit card (he tends to do stuff like this). We told him MANY times that we did not pay for it. He then looks as the sheet and goes "Yeah see, the account and closed and it was paid for. I can not give you $60 back, but you can have a free oil change the next time you come in." we of course took it. He then tells us to take the paper work to the front, give them their copy, and then come back and get the keys.
We get up there and the girl tells us we have to pay. We told her that we were just told it was paid for. We go back to the manager of the auto department to figure out what is going on. He is in his office and it took 20 minutes for him to come out. We are standing there then entire time. When he does finally come out, he walks away from us. The other lady working stops him and says we are still waiting for him. He yells over to us and goes "No the account was just closed. You need to pay" and then walks into the shop and leaves us.
I can not believe these people. The manager couldn't care less about us, they lied to our faces abut not being able to lower the price, they then lied about it being paid already so he can not give us our money back, and then he makes us wait 20 minutes with out so much as an apology.
NEVER take your vehicle here!

rude
In merritt british columbia, I will never shop at this canadian tire ever again, I have never been treated with so much disrespect in my entire life by a so called store supervisor! Rude rude rude. And for the record, her name tag said sue. Thanks so much sue for ruining everyone's day. I think it's time to retire!
What did Sue do that you considered rude?
not honoring price on shelf
I went into a Canadian Tire gas outlet to buy power steering fluid. It was adverised on shelf as 5.99 but was charged 7.39. When I pointed out the mistake he told me to bad the price is in the computer and thats my problem. I suggested that they monitor there shelves for pricing better. He said not his problem. I asked to talk to the manager and he told me they were on holidays. I will never shop at Canadian Tire again which is also an inconvienence for me but would rather drive farther and hopefully get better service.

remounting license plate (rusted bolts)
I made an appointment at the Canadian Tire garage in Vaudreuil to remount my license plate since the bolts were rusted and one of them had snapped off. The guy said it could take from 5 minutes to one hour depending on the condition of the bolts. I showed up the next day for the appointment (Monday) and during the creation of the requisition for the job, I explained to the guy that one bolt had snapped off while the other kept spinning and could not unscrew (bad threading). He said the job could take half hour or maybe one hour and he would call me on my cell once it was completed. And hour later, I called back and no one would pick up. Once I got there, the guy said that the bolts could only be removed by taking off the panel of the rear door and it would take 45 minutes to 1 hour. They would not be able to do it today and I would have to come back another day to make a new appointment.
I was shocked! Not only was my car not serviced but I was not even notified of this by a simple phone call much earlier once they had made this decision. There were no emails that were left out when the requisition was made for the job -- the bolts were rusted, one had snapped off, and one could not be unscrewed but kept spinning in place. They had allotted 1 hour for the job so I could not understand why they couldn't remove the panel and finish the service during that one hour.
I was not pleased and I would definitely not return back to this garage for any future services!
Typo correction:
"There were no emails that were left out" should be "There were no details that were left out"

I received a call saying I needed front routers and pads $277 plus taxes I said well if I need them do it. I did not get in to pick my car back up until the first of the week as I never got back to town until after they were closed after picking the car up and driving it I called my step dad up and said there is still something wrong with the brakes, he said take it back to Canadian tire I let my boyfriend drive to see if it was just me and when we went to stop at a stop light there was NO brakes and we could not stop and went through the light took the car to the shop and was then told the back lines are rotted also the frame could have told me this the first time and I would have saved the money

tire fell off
Canadian Tire
Put on two new front tires.
Felt vibration and strange noises coming from the wheels that were installed.
Took it back and told them it felt like the tires were going to fly off the car.
They told me there was absolutely nothing wrong with the new tires they just installed and that it was something else causing the noise.
2 minutes out the door, the wheel they installed fell off in the middle of the road with thousands of dollars damage to my car.
I am going to court. If you have been victimized by any Canadian Tire store and want your say in court for free, please contact me with your story. Please don't suffer in silence. It's too late for me but your help may save someones life.
That exactly happened to my car, CT in Calgary installed 4 new tire on my car a week later, one of the wheels came right off while driving on high way caused my car extensive damage.
different price policy
I purchased two sets of xmas lights no.2316-6 at $19.99 a set, at store no.303 on Sunday Dec.4 at 12.50.When I installed the lights, I realized I needed two more sets and since I live closer to store no.454 and it was 4:45 P.M. on the same day, I drove to that store (454). I chose two more sets of the same lights & went to the cash to pay for them. The cashier advised me that the same lights were $24.99 and I explained to her that I had purchased them earlier today for $19.99 & showed her my bill.
She refused to match the price & sell them to me for $19.99, so I asked to speak to the manager. The Assistant Manager came over to the cash & told me that if I wanted to buy them at $19.99, I would have to return to the other Canadian Tire store to purchase them. No sorry, we can’t give them to you at the same price, just go to the other store if you want them. I have been a Canadian Tire Credit card holder many years and I don’t think this kind of attitude is acceptable.
I was under the impression that all Canadian Tire stores had the same price policy. Even if it doesn’t, the staff should be more polite & flexible.
the canadian tire store is a scam
Yesterday I purchased bird seed in a Canadian Tire Store that I normally do not shop at. I was in a different part of the city, driving an elderly lady to a doctor’s appointment, and stopped at the store by her house. There was not a lot of stock in the store, what was there was kept in plastic bins; I ended up buying item042-867-6 MM PRMM WBF 18K for $16.99. What I really wanted was out of stock. A kind store clerk helped me out to my car with the bag. This afternoon, my husband and I wrestled the bag from the car to the back of the house where the bird feeder is. We have a special container for the feed.
When we dumped out the new feed, it was rotten, smelled awful and is obviously unusable. My closest store, that I usually shop at will not allow me to get a replacement at their store. I am told I must return to the original store, which probably does not have the bird feed I want.
I had purchased a 17 foot step ladder at the Canadian Tire in Buckingham, Quebec. I took it home but could not open it, the small devices were jammed, i tried with some tools, but would not budge. I did not want to break it, so I took it back, they absolutely refused to take it back. It had only been one week since it was bought it was in its original package and I had the receipt, he said I had to take it back to the Canadian Tire store I had bought it from.
That little man was very rude and condescending. I will not go back to that store, there were 6 people in line and they saw the whole thing, they were all disgusted at this man’s attitude.
failed in less than 45 days
On January 24, 2012 we purchased wheel bearings from the canadian tire in owen sound. At that time we were told it had a 60 day warranty. On March 13, 2012 the wheel bearing failed. We contacted the canadian tire store on March 14 2012 and were told they only had a 30 day warranty. So now we are out $160! They refuse to replace the part or to compensate us in anyway. Canadian Tire should be replacing the part at no cost to us. Very poor product and customer service.

Return policy
I bought an air hog airplane for my son for Christmas. He tried it a few times but it wouldn't go up in the air at all kept crashing into things. I went to return it because it had only been a week. To my surprise that particular Canadian Tire wasn't taking back any returned Christmas gifts even if you had the receipt. I asked why and they said that the...
Read full review of Canadian Tire and 1 commentauto service nightmare
I'm writing this email to describe what a horrifying experience I had with Canadian Tire Auto Service. Hopefully it helps to remedy your business practices. I'm also tempted to post this all over the web to warn consumers about your service.
I received a $100 gift card to Canadian Tire for Christmas. On December 29, 2011, I had an appointment at the Fairway Road Canadian Tire in Kitchener at 2 pm to have my summer tires swapped with winter ones that I had purchased at the same location the year previous. I had already come in twice that week without an appointment and there were booked solid. Despite arriving just before 2 pm, it took 30 minutes for the Tire Installer (Jamie) to bring my car into a bay.
After another 10 minutes he came to tell me that he was unable to remove a lug nut and doesn't want to break it. I told him that I would take it to my mechanic and to just put the tires back on.
I drove my car to Cambridge and explained the situation to my mechanic. He came outside with a screwdriver and a socket wrench and was able to remove ALL the nuts with little effort and without a bar on the wrench. After looking at me like I was mental, I asked him if maybe the tire was stuck onto the hub. He said that every mechanic knows that all you have to do is hit the tire with a mallet or 2x4 and it comes right off. (All of this was very confusing to me in the first place considering that I had the same location put my summer tires on the car only 3 months ago and there's no way anything should have seized up in that short time).
So I called Canadian Tire back at 3:45pm and told them that my mechanic had just removed all the nuts with a simple socket wrench. I asked them to ask the "Tire Installer" (Jamie) to confirm that it was a lug nut that was the problem. After a brief time the "Service Adviser" (Taneng) came back on the phone and said that he could get me back in tomorrow. He didn't even answer my question at first and I had to persist to hear that the "Tire Installers" will not "force" any part on a vehicle. I reiterated the fact that there was no force involved. I told Taneng that this was unacceptable and that under the circumstances I wanted some VIP treatment and to somehow squeeze me in the same day. I also told him that this was the third day I had tried to been in. He once again said he was unable to do it so I asked to speak to the manager. The manager told me to bring the car in right away and he could get it done.
I arrived back at Canadian Tire in Kitchener at 4:20 pm due to traffic. I told Taneng, the "Service Adviser" that I had forgot to ask the Manager if I was going to be charged for this and if so that I was taking my car somewhere else. He went into the shop to ask the manager if I had to pay. He came back and said "It's not gonna happen". Since I had asked if I was going to have to pay I heard this as a "no". That believe was reinforced because at the exact same time Taneng handed me a form to sign that had "Does Not Pay" stamped across it. So I signed the paper and took a seat. At that time I text my girlfriend that at least I wasn't going to have to pay for the service and was just trying to stop being angry now.
After another 40 minutes of waiting Taneng - "Service Adviser", came out and told me the car was done. He then asked me if it was going to be credit, cash or debit. I laughed and thought he was joking around with me. He repeated the question and I asked what he was talking about. He said that I wasn't going to have to pay for it! He became angry and said that he had stood right there and told me that I WAS going to have to pay and that I had even signed the work order. I told him that the thing has "Does Not Pay" stamped on it and I thought that it was just procedure. I said that they had severely inconvenienced me and I had stated when I came in that if I had to pay for it then I was taking it somewhere else! They had wasted my entire day and I wanted to speak to the service manager. He stated that the manager had left for the day. He got on the phone and said that there was an irate customer who was refusing to pay. I told him to put the summer tires back on the car then cause there was no way they were getting a dime out of me. So off they went to put my summer tires back on my car! Over $68 they had wasted my entire day, made me drive to Cambridge and now they were putting my summer tires back on. I was furious at this point and told them I wanted to speak to the store manager. They said that everyone had gone home and that there was only one manager still at the store. I said that I'd speak to that manager then. She came over and I explained my whole experience. She then informed me that she was the sports and seasonal manager and there was nothing she could do for me except give me a number to Customer Relations.
So to add insult to injury, after they had re-installed my summer tires for the second time that day and parked my car outside, the parking lot was almost empty but my car was on the far side of the parking lot. They had parked my car as far away as possible in an empty parking lot so I'd have to walk farther. I couldn't believe it. I wanted to go back in and strangle someone but I was just happy to finally be getting away from Canadian Tire.
Last night I opened a complaint file with Customer Relations #[protected] and they have offered to pay for my winter tire installation. I'm not sure if I even want to take them up on it and I still have a $100 gift card that I'm tempted to throw in the trash. I own a gym in Cambridge Ontario and I have hundreds of members here who are soon to be ex Canadian Tire customers.

rip off
Crappy Tire is a complete Rip Off. From extra fees, to poor installation, to rude management, I don’t even want to think about it again. Again, I can’t really put the entire experience into words. Worst experience ever and I am a proud Canadian and literally shopped at Canadian Tire on a weekly basis, stopping on the way home from work to pick up paint or car supplies. I WILL NEVER SHOP AT CANADIAN TIRE AGAIN. There is nothing at Crappy Tire you can’t get anywhere else. By the way this happened in Milton, Ontario at the Steeles and James Snow location. You will recognize the service manager. Just look for a fat Al Borlan!
Canadians have to start boycotting Canadian Tire Stores. They have the worst customer service. They do not stand behind the products they sell. The staff do not know their product. Actually, trying to find anyone to help you is impossible. Managers, don't even know where to start about them. The worst store you can possibly deal with. Between getting ripped off from buying their products to getting ripped off by their Automotive/Mechanics who need to be re-trained. No wonder Walmart is taking over Canada, at least they stand behind their product and will replace anything that does not work. Not like Canadian Tire, take your money and to *** with you. I will Never shop at another Canadian Tire again.
Why is your location the US
Good. Don't shop there. You are an idiot.
Have a good day.
lawn mower
I bought Canadian Tire Lawn Mower from GTA area Canadian Tire store. After bringing home I plugged it to my outdoor outlet and immediately circuit breaker went off. My Chord gage was as per the manual. When I contacted Yardworks they ask me to change the chord. I tried couple of times Yardworks technical support suggestions but finally gave up. Did not want to damage my circuit breakers and also to waste my time further ... When I tried to return the product Canadian Tire said they cannot accept it because it is a repair only product. After many conversations I was able to get my money back – thank god. Horrible customer service ! Think twice before you buy Yardworks from Canadian Tire.

crappy tire
I understand now why Canadian Tire is called Crappy Tire. The Service Department at this Canadian Tire is crap. The customer service from the bottom right up to the manager, Ken is crap! I took my Ford Explorer in to have the Power Steering Pump replaced because my truck was making a squealing noise. I even brought the part in. The service advisor agreed that it was probably the power steering pump making the noise. When my husband picked the truck it was still squealing. He was livid. Their excuse was, get this – “We did exactly what you said sir! We replaced the power steering pump.”
I guess if we told them to jump off a bridge, they would do that too. We did find a really good local mechanic in Ranchlands. They fixed the squealing noise which was just a belt tensioner and a pulley that needed to be replaced. It cost a $150 less than Crappy Tire charged to not even fix the problem. I wouldn’t suggest this Crappy Tire to my worst enemy. The staff is verbally abusive and very unprofessional.
a friend of mine took his car in to ct to have a front wheel bearing, only because of two oppinions to what the problem was, those garages couldnt do the job because of how busy they were so he tok it to CT, it was brought in thursday was told it will be ready on saturday mornin, on saturday mornin he was told that the bearings were bad and also bearing hub asembly both needed to be repaired asap, he said ok fix it, now it wont be ready until tuesday afternoon, he gets there on tuesday now he needs a front axle, there words are because of the excesive wear on the bearings being so bad it made the axle become faulty to the point that it needs to be replaced asap .the funny thing is this car had an inspection 42 days before it was taken to CT and only put 127 km on the car up to that point .another funny thing the car did not move from the spot it was parked in when the owner put it there, also marked down the KMs even the tens of a km .so they were able to diagnose this car without even putting it up on a hoist .there ether real good or there ? that will have to be your thout ...mine i think there crooks ..the car was MVi today, , only the bearing needed to be replaced, wow canadian tire you sure know how to make a customer feel good about canadian tire RIPPING US OFF ..dont they call them thieves in court..
You took it in and asked for a specific service, and you even provided the part. They performed the service, and you then go online and trash them for doing what you ask? I hate Canadian Tire's auto center based on them costing me hundreds of dollars by damaging my vehicle, so I'm in no way biased to favour them, but it sounds to me like you made a bad decision and want to blame it on them.
work not done; charged through the nose...
On 10 August I brought in my 1992 Ford Taurus to ask Canadian Tire to inspect it for road worthiness. I explained that my elderly aunt & uncle from Europe would be using the vehicle for two weeks, and I wanted to be sure that they didn't get stuck with some mechanical problem. I explained that I did not need the oil changed, because I had just changed it myself. The attendant asked if I wanted new spark plugs. I agreed. When I retrieved the vehicle I noticed that none of the fluid levels had been checked, and I had to "top up" several of them. None of the lids of any of the fluid reservoirs showed signs that they had been removed and checked. Calling Canadian Tire, the manager explained to me that my $212.90 had paid for simply replacing three spark plugs! The cost of these three spark plugs amounts to half the price I paid for this vehicle! I kept explaining that I had ASKED for a complete check-up of my car, and the attendant kept explaining that that would have cost me $190 dollars. Every time I explained to him that I had paid more than $200 dollars, his response was that that was just for changing the spark plugs - insinuating that I had only asked to have my spark plugs replaced!
These guys are not just incompetent; they seem to go out of their way to rob you blind!
I recommend anyone to stay as far away from this store as possible!

customer service/managers
We purchased 4 life jackets and 4 canoe paddles along with a Canoe from Canadian tire in Pickering ON in June 2011. We did not use any of the items and decided it was best to return them rather than leaving them to go to waste. When we went back to the same store we purchased them at. As expected they asked for our receipt. We explained that we had lost it as it has been 2 months. The teenager behind the counter said they would not refund the products. I asked for a manager and was told I could ask her but she'll just tell me the same thing. When the girl called her manager she stated on the phone. Some guy with a cart full of stuff is trying to return it without a receipt and no I didn't see him come from outside. My wife and my 8 and 5 y/o children were with me and there were other customers in line all looking at us as the girl was implying that we had stolen the items. When the manager arrived without asking questions or looking at the items in the cart she too said I'm sorry but we can't help you. Adding that without proof of purchase they have no way of knowing if I bought it or got it from somewhere else. At this point appalled by the accusation of theft I became very angry and told her where to go. The manager told me she has no authority to overrule decisions made by the staff. Then why the hell are you a manager?... I asked to speak to someone who could make decisions. She left and sent over the biggest guy they had in the store who asked me to step outside to talk and on the way laughed and said come outside so I can beat the ### out of you. After I told him off I demanded the owner. They sent the General Manager who inturn treated us like we were criminals and refuses to beleive his staff would speak to customers that way. When the other manager admitted to making the threat he brushed it off and said it has nothing to do with why I was there. After an hour of embarrassment and almost using one of the paddles to bludgen the staff. We assured them we would be taking this matter higher up and left the store. We went to the Canadian Tire in ajax and they were glad to help us even after we explained the trouble we had at the other store. We contacted Canadian Tire Head office Saturday night. But after 3 days have not had a responce.
We were very aware of the policy and all of the items were in original packaging with all the tags still on and not a spot on anything.

accosted by foreign employee to "play" ct credit card "game"
This has to be, by far, the worst experience I have ever had in a canadian tire store, and I am definitely not going back ever again after what happened today. I was going in to get a simple little $5 item that I needed, and what should have been a maximum 5-minute in-and-out visit turned into a half-hour ordeal, beginning at the entrance. It seems canadian tire financial services is so desperate to get people to open new ctfs credit card accounts and/or give up their personal information that anybody going into the store or auto centre today (And into this weekend) was being directed to a pod of touchscreens in the automotive department to "play" a "game" before they'd let you go in for what you were after. In short, they try to sign you up for a ctfs credit card and/or divulge your info. If you're lucky, you'll get what I got: a ctc reusable bag and two or three run-of-the-mill store coupons.
Seriously, canadian tire and their dealers/franchisees/whatever you want to call them have sunk to a new low. I'd had previous problems with ctc involving inventory (Or lack thereof) , customer service (Or lack thereof) and "charity" blitzes but this is the absolute final straw. Following today's nightmare, I am never again doing business with canadian tire, mark's work wearhouse/l'equipeur, partsource, ctfs or any other business in ctc's hands. My wife is a ctfs cardholder, and as forgiving as she may be when it comes to annoyances like these, she's on the verge of joining me in severing my ties with ctc, including cutting up her options mastercard and closing the account.
I am absolutely sick and tired of retail stores that use annoying tactics such as the above to weasel people into signing up for the store's credit card. With every other major retailer joining the store credit card craze, I figure it's only a matter of time before places you'd least expect to have a store credit card program will jump on the bandwagon... Places like giant tiger or dollarama or mac's/couche-tard. If you really want people to shop at your stores, you don't need credit cards or points cards or irritating crap like that - just provide simple, friendly customer service, have what the customer needs, offer your products/services at competitive prices, and if you want to jump on the community involvement bandwagon, make sure your contributions come out of your profits and not from your customers via charity blitzes.

Did you ever think of just saying not thanks and keep on walking. Exactly how did they accost you?
yeah no kidding, these representitives need to make their money some how and it just so happens that the way they make money is to ask customers if they would like to sign up for a credit card and to tell them the perks, if you dont want it say no, its not like they are standing there with a loaded gun to your head if you try to walk away. DOnt be such a baby
