Subject: Request for Return of Security Deposit and Resolution of Mismanagement Issues at Woodland Estates
Dear Sir or Madam:
We are writing to formally express our disappointment regarding the management practices at Woodland Estates, located at 4797 South 4th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, where we resided for the past four years. During this time, management repeatedly acted unreasonably, including annual threats that we must either purchase the trailer we were renting or vacate. Most recently, we were informed that leases would no longer be offered, as the community was selling trailers and discontinuing rentals.
Throughout our tenancy, we consistently paid rent on the 5th of each month, never missed payments, and never experienced utility cutoffs. We attempted to move before the end of our lease, but due to a failed home purchase, we required a few additional days. We vacated three days after the 5th, and following inspection, we were assured that our security deposit would be returned because the unit was in good condition.
Unfortunately, despite our efforts to communicate with management, specifically with Mr. Dan, who has repeatedly been unavailable and unresponsive, we were later told we owed another month’s rent.
This claim is unjust, given our record as dependable tenants and the fact that we had already vacated the premises. Additionally, maintenance issues we reported during our tenancy were off-handedly addressed, such as the door falling off the refrigerator twice, which caused so much frustration, we purchased our own refrigerator, knobs falling off the stove, and water cessation and frequent cut-offs due to some failure or community concern, which has tenants discussing their health concerns and possible legal action to take in the event of illnesses, just to name a few issues. Yet, we continued to meet our obligations without complaint.
We are not seeking anything beyond what is rightfully ours: the full return of our security deposit and an end to the threats and mistreatment we have endured. We are no longer residing at Woodland.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to your resolution.
Sincerely,
James Thigpen
