Back in June this year, 2025, we started experiencing horrible static, dropped calls and sometimes not even get a dial tone. We got thru to the telephone company they would send people out and trace the problem out to the hard road (we live in the forest) and find it needed repair. Would patch it and all would be fine the first time around, but then it took another 5 calls for the same problems. The last 2 techs that came out told us that there could be no more patching on the main line and that it needed to be replaced. When I asked if that was in the near future, they said there were no known plans of any of it happening anytime soon. We have 2 separate lines coming into our house. One line is perfectly fine. The other one is horrible. That is the one I do most of my calling on. We called finally and asked the person we spoke to, to cancel the one I am having the problems with, the one most used, put my long distance on the other line that has no problems and please change that phone number from the phone that was to be cancelled to the line we were going to keep. I was assured it would happen within 24 hours. We left came back 9 hours later to find that the good phone was now completely dead. We called the number we wanted transferred and it was still on the phone with all the static. The order was completely messed up. The next day I called and talked to Manny. We are both having to shout in order to hear each other over the horrible static of the one phone with all the problems. We were only able to catch bits and pieces of the conversation but at this point we just wanted it resolved. We understood him to say that he needed to set us up with a new service. We also have internet with them which was on the phone that got cancelled accidentally so I do not know how we still have internet when that line is now dead. He asked for my credit info, soc. sec and then wanted bank account info. I told him at that point that the main office has all of that on file. We have been with these people for almost 30 years! He said that was ok so he didn't need it. Then he said i had to listen to a recording to let me know things. He put on a recording that lasted a long time. So much static we could not understand what was being said but caught a word here and there, then because of the static while the recording was playing the phone quits working. I tried to call back and was placed on hold and the phone would just hang up on me so I can not get thru to them. I googled looking for a retail office somewhere in our vicinity so i could go down there and talk to them in person. They have none listed in the Ocala area. They sent me an email saying that they were not coming out for the service as they had to talk to me first and told me to call them. Right. I can't call anyone right now. I responded to the email. It said we could respond to it so I did and very carefully explained again the whole situation and what we needed. I see on the website that you should expect a response within 2 days. It has now passed the 2 day time period and all is silent with Windstream and we still have no phones. I was also told by the last tech that we were the only ones complaining out here. It is a small community where i live so I checked with others on the same road and found out that they too have been complaining and it was an outright lie. I have lost all respect for what use to be a reputable business. Unfortunately, there is a monopoly on the phones out here. There is no other true telephone provider so I guess they assume you will just put up with the lousy service and the incompetent people that answer the phones that you can't understand and they can't understand you. I can't even place a repair order on the website. I get a chat-bot that tells me to call them.
Recommendation: Find another provider that will provide good service
