If you are approached about opening an account called Smartley Visa with Smartley Checking and Smartley Savings good luck finding a bank employee that understands it. The employee that opened it for us didn't understand it, the teller at the bank didn't understand it and the employee in the office at the bank along with the customer service rep. she called and that person's boss didn't understand it. All those employees stated we should be earning 3 points per dollar spent on our Smartley Visa account. An inquiry was opened and could take up to 10 business days. Exactly two weeks and 3 days (mailing time) later I received a letter from card member services stating the qualifying deposits ($50,000) had to be in a Smartley Checking Account which pays no interest or a Safe Debit account which carries a $12.00 non waivable monthly fee. Bottom line: to earn an extra one or two points per dollar spent on the Visa card you have to give them $100,000 at no interest or have a checking account with a $12.00 monthly fee. They pay for the extra points by using your $50,000 to $100,000 and not paying any interest. Be aware of what you are signing up for because if it sounds too good to be true it probably isn't true. There is no free lunch.
Recommendation: I would tell you to ask a lot of questions, but like I stated I couldn't find anyone at the local level that understood how this product works. The explanation came from Cardmember Client Services in Fargo N.D.
