Target questionable policy

I will preface this by saying I have never had a problem at Target before, however, this one takes the cake. On Jan. 14 we purchased a comforter set at full price. 2 or 3 days later the item goes to clearance. Today I go into the store with my receipt and am told they won't give me an overcharge because the item is clearance and not a sale item. The clerk told me if I brought the item back to the store in the packaging she could do a refund and I could buy it back at the clearance price. (This wouldn't be necessary if the item were just on sale.) I have been a good customer of this store spending approximately $400.00 to $500.00 there each week between groceries and other items. However, after having to be recited a policy by no less than three levels of employees...who had no care in the world other than to recite a questionable policy, I walked out. No wonder same store sales are off...

If you would have read the return policy on your receipt, you wouldn't have had to go through all that stress.

There is a difference between a sale price and a clearance price. If it's just on sale, it'll go back up once the promotion is over.
If it's on clearance, they're trying to liquidate the remaining stock.
Sooner or later everything goes on clearance and I don't know of any stores that price match or adjust for clearance items. It was just bad timing that you bought this item when you did.
You obviously thought this product was worth the money you paid for it, so be happy and move on.

Target Broken at 7 months!

What a joke - Had trouble from the day I brought it home... Tried to return it at 4 months but Target said I had to deal direct with Trutech... they would not return it and replace it with another unit. The DVD's would skip and the open/close door sometimes would not open... until one day the door could not be re-opened... I am planning on avoiding target shopping at all costs... and telling as many people as I can about this poor product and experience with Target.

I have the same complaint as everybody else. I bought this Trutech T600-D DVD player at Target for about $30. I didn't open it and use it for a while. Finally I did open it and hook it up. I put a DVD in it and it worked fine that one time. The second time I went to put a DVD in (same DVD), the door wouldn't open. I tried everything, thought I was doing something wrong, read instructions over and over, etc. So today I tried to return it to Target and I was told that their return policy on electronics products is 30 days and on other things 90 days. They said to call the company itself. Now I read all this and see that Target owns that company. I think the person was right who said the thing was broken before I bought it. They would probably get more returns within 30 days if it didn't work the first time a person used it. But it seems like more often than anything else, it refuses to work the second time a person uses it. So you're taken off guard, and the 30 days go by while you're sitting there not using it and not thinking you have a problem. Target's policy is hostile to the consumer, so I won't buy there again.

These have a problem with laser aging. Or either the laser becomes oxidized and the pickup focus needs to be re-adjusted. This will require some disassembly of the optical pickup. On the underside of it are two small adjustments. One is for DVD and the other is CD. You want to make a small adjustment to the DVD one. Then reassemble and see how it performs. Repeat until satisfied with playback. Make a mental not how much you turned it each time. Good luck!

I was watching my dads porno movie on his Trutech T-600D dvd player. When I heard him come home from work I tried to quickly eject his movie and put it back in his hiding place before he came upstairs. Unfortunately for me the damn eject button did not work and was unable to get the movie out. Later that night my dad told us that he rented a movie from Blockbuster and we were going to have family movie night. Later on that night when he went to put the movie in, he was unable to get the tray to eject. As he push play on the dvd player the porno movie came on and my dad knew that I was snooping through his collection! Do not buy this product, especially if you plan on going through your dad's stash of porno movies when he's at work. Guarranteed you'll get busted like me...what a piece of junk!

My T600-D TruTech DVD player is broken too. The DVD tray won't open. I had to unscrew all of the screws and take the player apart to get the DVD out. I often leave the DVD player on overnight. I wonder if something inside got too hot and caused a component to fail.

Does anyone know of a website that trouble shoots this DVD player?

I bought one of these at Target in June of 2006. It stopped working tonight, 4-1-08. It almost lasted 2 years. I paid about $30.00 for it so i can`t really complain i guess. It worked pretty well at first, then it started making loud clicking noises every time i would open the tray. A couple of times it just plain shut off in the middle of a movie. I will not buy another Trutech product.

I bought a Cyber Home DVD player for the same price at Wal-Mart 4 years ago and it works great with no problems at all.

I purchased this DVD player for my 19 month olds room for Christmas. It worked fine for about 2 weeks then it started skipping and stopping in the middle of movies. The door would work sometimes and then would not until finally it wouldn't open at all. Now in order to get the dvd out we would have to break something. I took it back to Target after having it for 3 months. Of course they would not do anything about it but did give me the number to the company (which Target owns) to deal with the problem. This product stinks and possibly dangerous. It gets very hot if left on for a little while.

I got this DVD player for at least 3 years, I kept it into my van and hooked it up to my roof mounted t.v. It's playing fine so far. Doesn't seems it's got any problem yet. Maybe I am one of the luck one out of all of you. I don't know what type of disc do you guys play, but most of my movies I played are DVD-r and CD-r. I have not try to play any original DVD or CD movies since I bought this DVD player.

Target wedding registry!

Be careful if you create a registry with Target. We received gifts from Target.com that did not come with receipts or even a packing slip for 2 of the gifts. It was such a hassle, but luckily the Target employees in Palmdale CA were so hopeful. They had to call 800 numbers and wait for at least 20 minutes multiple times, and they had a hard time getting anyone at Target.com to help with the returns.

I tried to return a gift the turned out to be broken after we had thrown everything away-including the gift receipt (I did not think I needed it). I was not allowed to exchange the item because it was over $20.00 and I did not have a receipt, even though you could see it was purchased from my registry. I understand that Target gets taken advantage from with returns, but when something is purchased off a registry that should not be a problem.

I purchased a Nintendo Wii ($200) on the Target Wedding Registry. The couple was sent a toddler's toy barn (valued at about $15-$20) instead of the Wii, but the invoice still said Nintendo Wii and I had paid for the Nintendo Wii. The bride & groom did not open their wedding gifts until the night of the wedding and so they were unaware that Target sent the wrong item until then. Target refuses to take back the item and provide the correct item because it was paid for over 90 days ago, even though it was still in the box and still with the Nintendo Wii receipt. I just paid $200 for this little kids toy. This is a case of fraud. I since have spoken with several other people and have found out that this wedding registry scam by Target has happened to several people.

YES BRIDES AND PARENTS TO BE BEWARE OF TARGET GIFT REGISTRY. NOTHING BUT A SCAM AND THEY STEAL MONEY FROM YOUR RELATIVES AND FAMILY.

WE REGISTERED FOR OUR WEDDING 5 YEARS AGO WITH NO PROBLEMS. WHEN WE RETURNED ITEMS THEY SIMPLY LOOKED AT OUR PURCHASE LOG.

NOW THAT WE ARE EXPECTING OUR FIRST CHILD WE REGISTERED THERE AGAIN WITH NOTHING BUT NIGHTMARES. SOME DUPLICATES WERE PURCHASED ON OUR REGISTRY AND A COUPLE OF THINGS WE DECIDED WE DIDN'T NEED. WHEN WE WENT TO EXCHANGE THE ITEMS FOR SOMETHING ELSE THAT WASN'T PURCHASED OFF OUR REGISTRY THEY TREATED US LIKE CRIMINALS BECAUSE THE GIFTS WERE GIVEN WITH OUT GIFT RECEIPTS. THIS IS WHY PEOPLE HAVE GIFT REGISTRIES. SO THE STORE CAN TRACK THE PURCHASE AND YOU CAN EXCHANGE THINGS.
TARGET IS RUNNING A FRAUD ON THEIR REGISTRIES BEWARE.

NOW I HAVE OVER 500$ OF MERCHANDISE I WILL NOT USE. I WAS TOLD TO TRY A COUPLE OF OTHER RETAILERS WHO HAVE LESS RESTRICTIVE RETURN POLICIES BUT THE SAME MERCHANDISE.

THIS IS FRAUD TO TAKE SOMETHING BACK TO A STORE WHERE IT WASN'T PURCHASED. I ASKED WHEN WE REGISTERED WHAT THE RETURN POLICY WAS AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NO PROBLEM TO RETURN ITEMS PURCHASED ON THE REGISTRY WITH OUT A RECEIPT.

Target out-of-stock product!

When I ordered the Zune 2nd Generation on November 7, 2007, I was unaware that the product was currently out of stock. In order for my son to receive this product by Christmas, it should have been shipped out by the 13th. He will be receiving no Christmas present because of Target. He currently is serving our country in Iraq, and Target could not deliver him his Christmas present like they originally promised. I have talked to customer service and a manager and they now state he will not receive it until Febuary. This is unacceptable. A soldier serving our country, in risk of his life, should not be sitting on Christmas with no present. If I would have known it was out of stock when I ordered, I wouldn't have ordered through Target. What ever happen to customer service? What ever happen to giving back to our soldiers who are fighting for our country...

Target refused return from baby registry without receipt!

I registered at Target for my baby shower, I received several items from friends and family out of town. They sent the items with a packing label that itemizes things and even includes a note from the sender, but no gift receipt. Since I had received several duplicates, I tried to return, but they would not accept the packing label as a receipt and said that my only option was to call the sender and ask them to go to the store and get a receipt and send it to me.

This is totally unacceptable! why should I register with Target if this is how they treat me, I can prove the item was purchased there, but still I can not exchange it, I'm not even asking for cash. In addition to this totally ridiculous situation, of the items they did return because I printed out my list of purchased items, they gave me a return for $24 on an item that states the purchaser paid $79. I had to complain and go up through management before they would credit me back the right amount.

I regularly shop at target, but plan to find someplace new to spend my hard earned money. I will suggest to every new mother not to register there as well.

If they will not return on-line orders that were sent by there company without a gift receipt, then gift receipts should go out automatically! They are penalizing us poor mothers whose friends are only trying to help.

Shame on Target.

This exact same thing happened to me. I registered at target for my baby shower and when friends and family pulled my registry, there seemed to be too many unbought items, even the few days before the shower. As it turns out, the gift registry had never updated correctly so I received 2 monitors, 4 play gyms, 3 first aid kits, 2 Diaper Genies, 2 travel systems (more on that below), as well as many smaller duplicate items. I did receive some gift receipts, and about half of them had a description of the item purchased. The other half had only a bar code and several multi-digit codes on them.

I myself had purchased one of the travel systems due to my husband's fear that our baby would come early and we wouldn't have a car seat. I had checked the registry the day it was purchased, watched the cashier scan my registry to have the item removed when I purchased it, then received the same travel system a few weeks later at my shower. The purchaser said that the system had been purchased the day before and the registry showed that it hadn't been purchased while she was in the store. I had removed the system myself from the registry at the time of purchase, so I knew something was wrong. When we tried to return all of our duplicates, we were not-so-nicely informed that not only did we need receipts for everything we returned (even if it was on the registry) but that we should contact those people that did not give us gift receipts and ask them to mail me the receipt. I explained how the registry did not update and was rudely told that my friends and family must not have mentioned my registry (all 20 of them who purchased duplicate items) to which I replied that I myself had experienced the registry not updating as it should have, in return getting a "not our problem" response from Target.

The gift receipts were another issue in that the ones that had no description of the item the receipt was for were completely useless unless we wanted to stand at teh customer service desk and watch the employee scan the receipt then scan every item seperately until he'she found the item that corresponded with the receipt. Basically, the series of numbers and the barcode means nothing in the gift receipt, because they supposedly can't look up what the receipt is for. The manager told us that when my friends and family had purchased the items off of my registry, the had to SPECIFY whether or not they wanted the item name on the gift receipt. SERIOUSLY?!?!?! Who would know about THAT policy? Are their cashiers trained to ask people if they want the gift item to appear on the receipt? If not, then they should be.

When we made our returns and tried to argue the point of the items being on the registry, we were told that the return policy changed as of August 28, 2007 and unless we created our registry before then, they would not use the registry to return anything. My husband asked the manager if she could look up the date that our registry was created and when she replied that there was no way to look up that information, he sakd "Fine. Then we created our registry on August 27th." Needless to say, she was none to thrilled to be proven wrong and have her smartass attitude backfire on her.

Target return policy even when you register with them!

I registered at target in mid august for my baby registry. I love (D) target as a store, and visited them weekly. I thought you have to register at target! But what a nightmare it turned out to be. After my baby shower, I received a few duplicates, and items that I just had way to many of. (Many of which are circo brand) and after attempting to go into target with one of these duplicates with out an original receipt or a gift receipt, I was told can I have a dl/state id. I said it is on my registry. She said ok, let's pull up a product purchase log on the kiosk. So after signing in the kiosk, and with the guest relations worker, trying to help me, she discovered that this log is no longer available. I was told that this would be counted towards one of my precious two non receipt items a year. I said no! It is on my registry, I requested one, and two were received. (Which is clearly marked on my registry. ) she called corporate to see what she can do, and they told the guest relations worker, "too bad, that is her problem, not ours!... She needs to tell all of her guests to either bring an original or gift receipt with their gifts!" and "it doesn't matter if it's on my registry or not, but as of august 1, 2007, the product purchase log is no longer available to people with registries, and I should read that online when I registered!" (I didn't even register online, I went to the store and registered, and no where online does it even state that either. What?! Are you kidding me? Well I still had stuff at home that I had not brought yet, which i'm glad I didn't. Please note also that your two returns a year with out a receipt includes items that are like 2.99. (Would you want to waste a return on that?!) so I have been in contact with target corporate and they say, nope, nothing they can do. Below I put some of the emails that I have sent to target online, and their response. But overall, after I redeem my store credit from some of my returns with the gift receipts, and gift cards from my shower, I will no longer be shopping at target. (I'm only using them up to get formula and diapers!)

Lesson learned: do not shop at target no more! And I have passed this on to alot of people and they are appalled at target is acting this way, considering they are a huge corporation! Also not once did they offer me to go back to the department and pick out something of equal or greater value.

First email sent to them online.

When I registered @ target for my baby registry in august, I was not told at all by target personnel that I would not be able to return my baby registry duplicates. Or unnecessary items. As I went into a target store on friday to return a duplicate item off of my registry that clearly states, (Requested 1-received 2) I was not able to return it. (I am not asking for cash back, a gift card would be sufficient. ) should I have known this return policy back in august when I was so excited to register at target for my special event, I would not have done it. Also I have never heard of a policy that only allows a customer 2 non receipt items a year for a return. The customer service for target being a big corporation is awful. I hope someone can get back to me regarding this return issue. And a solution of course very soon. Please contact me to resolve.

—target's response—

Dear dana,

Thank you for choosing to register at target, and for taking the time to contact us regarding our return policy. Returns at target are easy with a receipt dated within 90 days of purchase. As a registrant, we'll allow you to return your gift registry item up to 60 days after your event date if your receipt is expired. I'm sorry that the store was unable to assist with the return or exchange without having the receipt or gift receipt.

If you don't have a receipt, we still have a few options for you:

- your local store will accommodate two no receipt returns a year for you on small gifts under $20.

- we have the ability to look up a receipt's information for the gift giver, so they can make a return on most purchases, provided they purchased your item with a check, target giftcard, credit or debit card within the past 90 days.

- if the gift giver retained the original receipt for the item, they have the ability to reprint a gift receipt at the guest service desk next time they visit target.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns with us. Your feedback will be useful in our continual review of our return policy.

We hope to see you again soon at target.

Sincerely,

Troy

—my response—

I totally regret registering at target. Should I have known about this ridiculous return policy I never would have even thought to waste my time going through your aisles and having my guests shop at your stores. To find out that what I have extras of, I am "stuck" with. And even though it's from target, there is nothing target corporate can do. I find that very hard to believe for such a big corporation this is your return policy and that is how you treat your "guests".

As for as if I do not have a receipt. "if you don't have a receipt, we still have a few options for you:

- your local store will accommodate two no receipt returns a year for you on small gifts under $20. "

Right now at my home, I have a small bag full of circo items that is a target brand and I have duplicates of. These are not items that I registered for, but are items that I have received too much of. You only need so many pacifiers and bibs. And for me to go in there and "waste" one of my precious returns on a 2.99 item that is just insane. Totally unheard of. It is sad to say that your own target employees agree that the return policy is wrong and is not "guest friendly". You obviously can see that I registered there at the store and I should be able to return the target items.

Also since I am discussing receipts. You should train the cashiers on if it is a gift to tell the guest that if a receipt is not accompanied with the item at the time of return, the guest will not be able to return it.

And you should also update your registry system to not allow or prompt the cashier to notify the guest that the item was already purchased, and would they like to purchase an additional product.

(This is when I received 2 rockers for my shower, and I only requested one, but just like the target registry 2 were purchased, but only one was requested. So that is my problem that I am stuck with 2 rockers. But target won't honor that even though it is on my registry as follows. )

I will have to say, since talking to many guests of my shower, and explaining to them what you are putting a 9 month pregnant woman through regarding this return policy, you have lost many guests and will not shop at a target again. You may think "oh well, what does that matter" target will hopefully see what they did wrong to inconvenience their past guests.

Also on that note, I would like to say, no where when I registered did it say that as of august 1, 2007 a purchase product log would not be able to get printed for returns. And neither does it say it on your website. So you may want to look into that as well. I registered in the middle of august, and as of friday the one guest service worker at the target store by my home, did not know that you could not print that either.

It is sad that I received over $200.00 in gift cards for target, and I will be stuck shopping there for a few times until they are used. But after that you will not receive my business. As I previously went there on a weekly basis for all of my household needs.

====target's response=====

Dear dana,

I'm sorry for any disappointment with our last e-mail, but we won't be able to assist with a return or exchange without a receipt or gift receipt. I apologize for any frustration this has caused.

Thanks again for sharing your comments with us. Your feedback will be useful as we continue to review our return policy.

I hope we'll see you again soon at target.

Sincerely,

Troy

What's with the age limited on returns. Target requires a driver's license which lets out my 14 and 15 year old boys from returning a duplicate video game (still securely wrapped in plastic). Then when I ask about why I had to come into the store to help the guy behind the counter tells me "its in the policy" in a snotty tone and waves over his head because I'm a ### and its printed right on the wall. I tell him "NO its not on the wall behind you so please get me a prated copy of the return policy". He refused and asked me to leave.

In regards to AmberAdk's response:

You're most likely one of the people who buy the worst gift at the cheapest price. And you are probably one of those people who re-gift items (used or new). Which would make sense at to why you refuse to include a gift receipt. When I buy a gift for someone, I put a lot of thought into it before I purchase it. I would prefer they didn't take it back, so I try to buy something they would like and use. I dont know about your money, but mine doesn't grow on trees. I work hard for it. I would be more offended if they gave my gift away to someone else, instead of returning it for something they would actually use. I'd rather my money go to the person it was intended for. Those rockers are expensive to the average American family. And especially to someone whose money doesnt grow on trees. Exchanging one rocker could buy that mother a lot of diapers, formula and clothing. Do you know how expensive kids can be? Target makes more money than they know what to do with. The people at the corporate level at Target, make plenty of money and live VERY comfortably. So to them and I guess you, a $200 rocking chair would be considered chump-change. Obviously you have no clue what a few dollars could do to help a family. So now WHO is greedy? I think YOU need to look in the mirror.

That it CRAZY. Ask your closest friends and family members to return some of your items and use "their 2 precious returns" That is the DUMBEST RETRUN POLICY I have ever heard of. Corporate can't fix...yeah right my a**. I will never register at target for anthing. And I would never buy a gift for someone from Target. WalMart is cheaper anyways. Customer service there sucks too, but at least you can save a buck.

You all need to stop your complaining about returning gifts! If you don't have a gift receipt or a original receipt why should the store take it back? A gift is free stop whining who cares if you have 2 of the same use it or give it to someone who can! Greedy people you didn't pay for it anyways! I never give a give receipt to anyone that I get a gift for, if they don't like it then too bad! Sound like a bunch of spoiled adults to me, get over it!

My Daughter also had a Baby registry @ Target, They also would not give Her store credit on a few of Her item, because she didnt have a receipt ! Also I have purchased a Wii game for $249.99 the price was cut to $ 199.99 and they told Me I would couldnt get the difference back because it was not on sale the price was slashed ! So I called My Daughter and returned all her gifts on Her registy and My wii game ! target lost over 1, 200 dollars and it was Walmart gain ! Go to Walmart They have a exellent return policy ! My Daughter and I spent less money at walmart and went to lunch! I guess target has enough money ! They dont care if They loose any ! I will also spread the word ! That why Walmart has made a profit in there last quarter !

I have to disagree with crazycashier (key word: crazy)...I too had my baby registry at Target and many of my guests that made purchases told their cashiers that they were gifts and handed over the registry papers, and the gifts were never taken off. I received, among other duplicates, 2 strollers, 3 play gyms, FOUR monitors, and 3 first aid kits. I bought one of the strollers myself because we were getting close and I saw that no one ha dpurchased it yet, and I had the cashier take it off of my registry. When I received the 2nd one I asked when it was purchased and to my surprise, it was BEFORE I bought it, the purchaser had also given her cashier the registry information, and yet it still did not show up that it was already purchased. When I tried to return the duplicates, I was told several different things:
1. A gift receipt must be REQUESTED by the purchaser (contrary to what the supposed Target cashier above claims) AND apparently there are 2 different types of gift receipts - one with a description of the item and one without. The purchaser has to ASK for the one with the description. We had so many gift receipts with nothing but numbers and barcodes on them, and no one at Target could pull up the item on the receipt unless they scanned the product first then the receipt. So why are there a thousand different numbers and a barcode on the gift receipts if they can't be used?
2. I needed to go back to my shower guests and request the gift or original receipts. Yeah, because that's not embarassing..."Hi Aunt Bonnie, I have to return the baby monitor you bought me so can you please get the receipt from you? I know I know, it's not your fault that the purchase didn't show up on the registry..." Please...
3. My guests MUST NOT HAVE presented the cashiers with the registry information. I know this happens, and I can understand if had happened with one or two people, but we counted the guests that purchased duplicates and came up with 17. SEVENTEEN! Not 17 items, SEVENTEEN GUESTS that purchased duplicates. There's no way that that many friends and family happened to forget what they were buying a baby monitor for. PLUS, like I mentioned before, I myself requested an item be removed and it didn't happen, so I know the registry didn't work correctly in the first place.

So, crazycashier, you said it yourself, the problem doesn't lie with the employees, it lies with the corporate [censored] bags that came up with the return policy in the first place. Stay crazy. And stay out of customer service.

Its is amazing how upset people really get over these types of problems. I am a current target employee and our return policies match that of Wal mart and Kmart. People tend to automatically pull the wal mart card everytime they do not get their way in the hopes we will bend our rules. These policies are more than fair and when a person buys a gift from a baby registery they are prompted to make sure they give a gift reciept with their item. The fault does not lie with the employees and the policy it lies with the person who went to print out your gift registry and just casually clicked right passed the message about getting a gift reciept for these items.

Almost all stores with registries have a similar policy. And to my knowledge, when purchasing an item from a registry from Target a gift receipt comes out automatically.

Target I will never shop there again!

I recently purchased a prepaid phone for my 9 year old son for 59.99. When I went to verizon to add it on, they had better phones at a better deal, so I went to take the other phone back. I didn't have a receipt. I lost it, and because it was a cash transaction, they will not give any kind of refund, not even store credit. I could, for the most part, understand that on some items because of theft, but this item had to be unlocked by one their employees, so it was obviously not stolen. The employee and manager gave me a 1-800 number to call for help and said maybe they can help you. They won't. It is a total waste of time and a way for Target to not deal with their customers. I even spoke with a supervisor there that was like, "I understand your concerns, and we at Target take them seriously. we want our customers to be happy, etc..., but that is our policy. When asked for her supervisor, she refused to give that person to me and gave me Mr. Urlich's address and told me to contact him.

I hope that Target, which also owns Starbucks, is happy with the 59.99 they received from me, because I will never shop there again, and I am sure they don't care, because I told that to Miss Corporate America, and she didn't, but I am a stubborn person, and I mean it. There is a K Mart across the street, a Meijers by my job, and a Walmart down the road. Sometimes receipts are lost. We are in the process of moving into a new home, it happens.

Jake took the words right out of my mouth.

I work at the Target Service Desk and I'm so sick of hearing the excuses. People always come with no receipt and assume they can do everything and anything. The policy is clearly stated at checkout and on your receipt. If you don't have it, we do what we can, but there's a limit. Be more responsible.

Target can look up your receipt. Did you ask them to do that?

Almost all stores now-a-days require a receipt for returns. No receipt, no return.

Here, even Wal-Mart requires a receipt for all returns or exchanges.

YOU LOST YOUR RECEIPT. This is your fault. If you read the majority of "complaints" of this nature, 9 out 10 times the person lost/misplaced their receipt. Get over it. I hope you learn something from this, oh, say, like how to be better organinzed so you don't lose all of your receipts. You people make it so much harder for people with legitimate complaints. Oh, by the way, Target could give a crap about your $59.99 and the paltry sums of money you spend there...you not shopping there will not cause their downfall.

Have any of you actually worked in retail? What do you do when you don't get your receipt from the cashier? You complain. Then what do you do when you lose it 5 minutes after you get it? You complain about the fact that a store has a clearly written return policy stating you must have a receipt to do a return. Be more responsible and don't blame other people for something you did. I've heard every excuse about why someone doesn't have their receipt. Most places even have it set up to where if you have the card or a check from the account it was purchased on they can look it up that way (if it was purchased within the last 90 days or whatever the return policy is) And the reason why most stores have this policy is because people try to return items that they've had for 6 months. I know what you're going to say, why shouldn't they let me return it after 6 months?" It's because these places don't rent products for 6 months... they sell them to you. After a certain amount of time they have to be able to say with confidence that the 600 of that certain item they sold is for sure sold and they're not going to get 300 returned in a year just because people don't want them. For the most part if there is a problem with the product you bought they will take care of it. But if it's just because you didn't make a well informed buying decision don't complain about it... Maybe you should just think about what you'd like to purchase and if someone gives you a gift it's not Target, Meijer or Wal-Mart's fault the person didn't give you a gift receipt, maybe they didn't want you to return it? And by the way Meijer, Wal-Mart, Target and K-Mart all have the same return policies for the most part. They also have this in place so that you can't buy something at Wal-Mart and return it to Target on accident (or because it's more expensive at the other store) because they can actually be fined for allowing that to happen if the vendor finds out. You see it's not all about you, they have responsibilities that they have to be held to.

Target slippers ruined my dresser!

I bought some Halloween "Mary Jane" type slippers from Target. The slippers are made of the soft, fuzzy material and have black round treads on the bottom to prevent slipping. Well, after one hour of wearing the slippers they started to unravel had a hole in them shortly after. I took them off and put them on my dresser so I could take them back after the weekend. Well, when Monday rolled around I grabbed the slippers and found that the black treads left these round, tar-like rings on my dresser! I was freaking out. I grabbed a paper towel to wipe it off, thinking that it was just some sticky black stuff. Well, not only was it sticky, black stuff... it had made round indentations on my dresser! It was like the chemicals that the treads were made of burnt holes where the treads rested on the dresser. I was furious! I went to Target and got my money back for the slippers and have been in contact with their headquarters. I guess they're going to work through the manufacturer so we'll see how that goes. I never thought that I would buy a $4.99 pair of slippers and ruin my $499 dresser!

Target unfair return policy!

DO NOT open registry at targets, unless you know that all your guests are perfect at keeping their receipts, including gift receipts and making sure that they or the store clerk has removed it from the registry! You can’t be responsible for all your guests and the store clerk following through and w/o that receipt targets will make it impossible to return your duplicate items.

Daughter opened her registry in Jan. and wedding was aug 10, they did not allow items over $20 to be returned even when purchased off the registry. we also had the problem of them not being removed, this makes me think part of the blame for not removing items from the registry is the fault of target, as they scan the paper and sometimes it doesn't scan properly. They refused to give us store credit. 3 Blenders (only sold at targets!) they are $29.99- $9.99 over their $20 limit. Is is my daughter's fault that targets did not remove it or that her guest may have forgotten to have it removed? Does that mean we should inform all our guests that they must attach a targets receipt. As far as paying attention to their registry? How were we to know if any one had purchased it?, so we could remove it? Anyways, store mgr and corporate office said the same out of luck!

This is there email response to me from the corporate office: “If you don't have a receipt, we still have a few options for you:

- Your local store will accommodate two no receipt returns a year for you on small gifts under $20.
- We have the ability to look up a receipt's information for the gift giver, so they can make a return on most purchases, provided they purchased your item with a check, Target GiftCard, credit or debit card within the past 90 days.
- If the gift giver still has the original receipt for the item, they have the ability to reprint a gift receipt at the Guest Service desk next time they visit Target.” “I'm sorry if you feel our last e-mail reply wasn't satisfactory, but we aren't able to further assist you with your return. “

Target deny the purchase of birth control

I am writing to request that upper management of Target create a policy that prohibits pharmacists from denying (or harassing) customers from purchasing birth control at the Target pharmacy. I choose to shop at Target, over Wal Mart, for the past 10 years and also have had a Target credit card during that time--the only credit card I own. However, since our choices and behaviors reflect our values, I must boycott shopping at Target until the upper management of Target creates a policy I can support. Does the Target culture want to make a statement that it is taking a side on this issue. By prohibiting the purchase of birth control, it is doing just that. And if that is the case, Target will lose MANY customers... trust me--you've already lost me until (not unless) things change. By the way, incase you didn't hear, Wal Mart has created a policy addressing this issue. Thank you for your time.

Target poor after sales service!

My finance and I recently bought a 18'x4' intex pool from target in west does moines, iowa, on 6/24/07, for $500.00. Last week the pump stopped working. I called the 800#for maintenance. They said since I lost my receipt I needed to go to my bank and get a copy of the check we used. Then to fax it to [protected]. Which I did. I called today to see when to expect the new pump because it was under warranty, and the female informed me I wasn't even in the records. She was very nasty with me. I tried to talk to her nicely and she told me I could not talk to her that way. I was getting very upset and yes I did raise my voice because she was interrupting me. I am having a pool party this friday for my 4 year old grand-daughter, and no pump to clean our pool before then. I really did hope to have it here by then. I want to know why im not registered, because my banker was the one to fax it to you. It was faxed on the 26th of july. I was told as soon as you got the fax a new pump would be shipped to me. Now how do I tell my granddaughter of 4 she cant swim and have her friends to swim either. I apologize for being rude, but I was promised something and now nobody knows anything about it?

I have an Intex meatl froame pool 15x48 with the same pump it came with for the last 3 years. The pump is not powerful enough so I run it 24/7 . It keeps working just fine but still is a piece of junk. I bought a Hayward pump and filter and will use the return and drain to get enough water to use the new pump since it is very powerful. The hole in the return of the pool is too small for enough water to work a better pump. Even if you buy a laerger pump from INtex for your pool the hole in the sidewall just isn't good enough unless you modify.

Intex should be held liable for the garbage pumps they sell at the lower end of the line. The higher priced ones seem to work better but I would rather go with Hayward or another brand that works for above ground pools.

Return to the store and purchase another pool. Carefully open the box and switch out the pumps. Then return it the next day to the store saying the pump doesn't work and you have decided to look around for a better quality pool. You will save lots of time and have your pump for the birthday party.

I purchased an Intex metal frame 15x48 above ground pool. The first problem I have experienced is the pool is almost impossible to get level. We have tried everything, even digging and leveling out a hole for the pool and it still is nto level. The pool pump, skimmer, filter and vacuum system is a complete joke! In years past we had an Intex 12x30 which included the same size filter that the large 15x48 provides. This filter is too small for this large pool. I have had nothing but trouble trying to keep this pool and safe to swim in. I also have spent tons of money on chemicals to have nothing but cloudy water. This is pool is a major disappointment for the cash I spent to purchase it.

I too have had pump problems with the intex 18ft metal frame pool. The little black pump that fastens to the skimmer is too small and mine only lasted two weeks. I called and gave them my serial number off the sid eof the pool. I was told to expect my pump in one to two weeks. Everytime I call, I get the run around. They put me in the system but I've been waiting over a month for them to send it to me. They order all the parts from China and can not give me a tracking number or have any idea when I'll be able to use my pool. There email is a joke too. They won't answer it no matter how many you send. The customer service is nonexistant. Please stay away from Intex pools.

Aug.2008 Put up 18 Ft. metal wall pool in mid june have had nothing but problems. spend 95% cleaning and only 5% enjoying it. The filter systen is a joke it needs to be on a 3 ft pool nothing any bigger. Called intex 3 times for help and that also is a joke, tried e -mailing to them and only get to the part where you send it and it won't. This big $500.00 JOKE has just made me sick. Spent hundreds of dollars in less than 2 months buying chemicals, having water tested trying to get the pool water color normal not green. I have had 3 different pools all have been good if not great. I have had the same one for 2 seasons now and it works fine pool and filter. To keep them clean you have to stay on top of them, just as you would if you had a real above or below ground pool. My experience with service is great no problem at all. I have not had any warranty problems so maybe thats why, but still am happy with product.

The TruTech name is only for sets sold by Target. They are made in China and imported by a company named Venturer Electronics in Canada and Buffalo NY.
Contact me if you want telephone numbers etc. It is Federal law for a dealer to make available any written warranties before you actually make a warranty covered purchase over $15.00. This law is older than Target itself. It's called the Magnuson-Moss Act - Public Law 93-637 and is overseen by the Federal Trade Commission.
Where I live Target does not have the warranties either on display or available - they are in the various sealed boxes. It would be a great service if those who have been cheated by Target would go to their closest Target and ask for the written warranties for several TV sets. You have the right to compare. When they turn you down - get their names and other info and join me in issuing a complaint with the FTC. We need many to do this... the quicker the better.

Um, it sounds like this should be an issue you take up with the manufacturer, Trutech, not Target. Unless of course Target is the one who manufactures the Trutech brand. But you get what you pay for, next time shell out a few more dollars for a Sony that will work for 10 years.

When I went to do my Bank Account on line I noticed a $49.95 charge I did not recognize. I called the number below the transaction. I got a very rude customer service rep who would not even give his name. I asked him who they were and what they sold. He did not answer. I told him that his company had charged my account for $49.95 and I wanted it reversed immediately since I did not authorize the deduction. He told me he would not do that. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told no supervisors were available. I told him I would go to my bank and have them reverse the charges which I did and they did, but today I got a letter from my bank stating my claim was denied and the money was being taken out again. I intend to file a police report as soon as possible. I suggest others scammed by this crooked company do the same.

I called their customer service number and spoke to Trevor. He told me he would reverse the charge but never did. Several days later, I contacted my credit card company USAA asking them if the charge was indeed reversed. It had not been. They advised me to contact them again in 30 days to file a complaint. August 15th was 30 days after the charge had been issued and USAA is currently in the process of refunding the charge (since it was never credited by The Grant Mentor). Target unfair business practices

Target Stores has unfair business practices and violates consumer rights! I returned something in January with a receipt over 90 days, and had to go threw hell, to only be able to get one item in exchange for the 5 I returned. My son was born in November , and we got unnecessary presents that we wanted to exchange, even with tags on them they run it against your license. After 2 times a year you are black-listed. I got a pair of shorts for my birthday, they happened to be from target. All I wanted to do was exchange them for the right size. REJECTED! This seems like a consumer violation! I can't help- that someone got something for me from target. I didn't try to get money back, I simply wanted to exchange it for the correct size. It still had the tags on it. Is there a class-action lawsuit against them yet?

Dear Dan,
You are right - in a way. Target will allow exchanges. They are suppose to honor the 90 day return policy and at times have been known to extend that as long as it's not too long of a time frame. Anything that is purchased on line can also be returned to any Target store in the US. You will get back what you paid for the item when you purchased it online however. If you are returning a gift, you will be given a gift card. If you need to exchange a size, you can do so but it is wise to keep your receipts. I have returned several items and have never had a problem - yet. That's not to say it won't happen. If you return something that was bought as a gift or if the item was on sale and you don't have your receipt you will be refunded the sale price of the item. If you spent 15.oo on something and it's on sale for 2.99 - you get the 2.99.

Violates consumer rights? where on earth do you think this company is violating consumer rights? what are consumer rights? Any store has the right to set policies and procedures that protect their assests. Targets return policy is "A receipt dated within 90 days of purchase is needed for ALL returns and exchanges". It is not Targets fault you did not recieve a gift receipt with your gift. You cannot go to the store and buy a bunch of things and then try to return them without ANY proof of Purchase! How can anyone think they could. As far as the 90 days! That is more then enough time to make it to a target store to return/exchange.

Target deceptive registry for baby returns!

My daughter is expecting her first child in July. I. She registered at Target and Burlington in Waco, TX. We sorted through duplicate gifts and tried to exchange them for other things on her list. Her registry was available; but the clerk said she had to have a purchase list. If the items were not on the purchase list and she did not have a receipt - this is the procedure: she asked for my purchase list and her driver's license; even though the item was purchased at Targets, she was told she could only make 2 item returns. She even had a gift card to which the clerk added one item. She was told that she could return only 1 more item and then her driver's license was flagged for rejections of other returns. She purchased around $50.00 of different baby items. The total was over the gift card amount. Why doesn't Target let registers know their policy? Why want they allow returns for gift cards or allow returns for other items? I will let others know about this policy and encourage people attending the baby showers to not buy at Targets. Targets is used by both families for many purchases. Target will lose more customers, because they will shop at other stores, such as Walmart.

Target poor customer service

I would like to share my unpleasant experience I had today in Target at Appalachee Pkway! I was shopping on the clearance rack today in the boys section. When an employee named Brittany came up folding tshirts on the back wall next to the rack where I already was. While I was holding up the shirts for my son to decide if he liked, mind you the shirts are against her back at this point and I had no personal space. I asked Brittany if I was in her way? She proceded to say No I will be done in a minute. I did ignore this and proceeded to look at the clothes. The more I thought about the situation the more it bothered me and upset me. I then proceeded to tell my mother I expect to get this type of service from Walmart but never Target. I also stated to my Mother I am sure Brittany is at Target longer days than I am and to bother a customer is just wrong! Brittany is now across the way straighten other clothes. Then Brittany yells from that section that I could have asked her to move and that she wasn't there for 8hrs a day. This is when I decided to go up front to get the store manager instead of waiting until I left the store. While I was up at the front of the store I hear Brittany over the radio I need a assisance immediately in the Boys Section. Erica the Front End Manager is now assisting me and I have explained this whole situation to her and she is very apologetic and is sorry about the customer service I have received. Brittany is in the other section of the boys talking to Wayne the Store Manager and Security about the situation. Which was very embarassing since I wasn't the one yelling in the store instead I was the one that was yelled at by a sales associate name Brittany! Mind you Wayne still hasn't come to assist me in the problem that arised he is still with Brittany instead of me. When he decides to come Security follows Wayne as if I was the one that was abusive in the situation! I never got ugly or yelled at anyone! I asked Wayne who was wrong in this situation and he would never say! His only statement was he couldn't say who was wrong! I am very disappointed in the service I received from Target today! Erica the front end manager was very nice in this situation and I am sorry Wayne couldn't apologize for the bad service his sales associate has given me during my visit at Target today! I did leave my cart of things there and I don't see me or my family shopping at Target for a very long time! I have always talked about perfect service at Target but I will now go back to shopping at Walmart which is only 5 minutes from home instead for 25minutes from home. I would like a response from Target in the poor customer service I have received from Tallahassee Target since I never received an apology from the Store Manager!

The pharmasict reserves the right to refuse the sale Plan B. They don't HAVE to give it to you. Just like they have the right to refuse to fill your Rx. It is up to the Pharmasict. There is no law.

I believe by law they have to have at least one person on staff who will sell it to you. I would check your local laws, you may have something there. Be strong girl! Don't let closed minded fools bring you down!

Purchased new Tru tech flat lcd tv from target. Was purchased after Thansgiving for a Christmas present and remained there until then. Work a few weeks and the screen looked as if it was a digital storm. I took back to Target with a receipt. I was informed the warranty had expired ! Regardless they would not accept, I went to BBB and no help. So i no longer shop at Target.Tell everyone not to buy from Target.

I believe that Target has a 90 exchange policy with a receipt that has nothing to do with the product manufacturer's warranty. I also believe that the Trutech brand is their cheapy in-store brand as well. Hopefully you still have your manual and you've registered your product with the manufacturer so that you may get your repairs. Whenever I shop at Target, I'm always annoyed at how many times they have to repeat their return policy on the receipt. Let's keep complaints legit so that we can all help each other. Venting frustration over not knowing how to go about getting a repair to a manufacturing flaw is not legit is not helping anyone.

Target is this a scam?

I too signed up for 6 promotional offers to receive a $500 Target gift card from Consumer Gain. I completed the requirements on March 18, 2007. Today is May 9, 2007 and I still haven't received verification from the sponsors. Under the agreement package, it states that it only takes 2-3 weeks to get notification and then they will notify you of your status. Today is the 53 day, and I still haven't received notification that I have fulfilled my agreement.

I have spent a considerable amount of money and will spend even more money to honor my contract agreements with the different sponsors. I don't think this is fair. What can I do? Is this a scam? If so, I should be able to get out of my contracts with the sponsors. Please advise.

Target poor portrait studio customer service

This letter is to address the poor customer service my family received from your portrait studio on December 30th, 2006.

I received a message in January from an employee who works out of this studio advising that the pictures did not turn out and that my family could come back in for retakes and they would throw in 3 free sheets.

I appreciate the incentive of adding additional sheets at no charge, although what an inconvenience to get a family of six back in for retakes. I must admit this is not my complaint though. No time during the message did she once apologize for the inconvenience. I returned the call to her. Unaware of my situation I explained to her how disheartening this was that the pictures did not turn out. I explained to her that two of my children live out of state so there is no way at this time that these pictures can be redone. Something she would not know of course, but an apology would have helped the situation. Again, no time during our conversation did she offer one. Her question to me was, “When can you come in for a refund?” Then she advised that she was able to do it over the phone so there was no need for me to come in. Our call ended. I thought about it for a moment and called back to ask for her manager. She began to say, “There is nothing she can do”. I informed her that I understand that her manager can not get my pictures back but I still want the phone number. She gave me a number. I have called this number three times and left messages each time with no call back. You can only imagine my frustration. I do not know who I need to speak with in regards to this unacceptable customer service. I realize that the pictures are gone. But employees, especially at a portrait studio, have to realize that pictures mean the world to people and when they are lost, damaged, etc. It is upsetting. The only thing I am trying to get across in this letter is that two words would have made a big difference. “I’m sorry” may have retained this customer. I will no longer utilize this portrait studio nor will I recommend it to others.

I am sorry about your experince I work for a Target Portrait Studio and I can not imagine how the photographs did not turn out my only guess is that this is back when the studio was film. I hope you had a new family photo taken sense then. Most Targets now are all digital and you can save your photos on their server for only 9.99 if something where to happen to your prints. They are also running a special now Mon-Thursday 50% off your entire order. I hope you try out Target again and hope you have a more pleasant experince, If I lived in AZ I would be more than happy to retake your photos for you.

Target poor customer service - berta

Yesterday evening I was standing in line next up to be checked out, Berta, the "front end supervisor" rudely stepped in front of me to shut off the light of the checker, telling me I was going to HAVE to move to the line next over because SHE was sending the young man for a carry out.

I said to her that I was next to be checked out and that other line had a line, she then repeated LOUDER to me that I would HAVE to go to the other line.
Now, let me give you what she should have said:
Two options:
Either wait for me to be checked out and then send the young man out, OR ASK me to move over instead of basically moving me out of the way and TELLING me I need to move. OR maybe SHE could have rolled the cart out to the car for the customer herself since all of the checkers were busy.
Ok, so now i'm irritated with her. This is not the first time she has overstepped her boundaries. I guess Target has a policy about children and carts...I completely understand IF it is a problem with some customers to ask the parent politely to seat their child. I WAS STANDING STILL IN LINE and SHE asked my CHILD to sit down! Don't we teach our children NOT to talk to strangers.. Speak to the parent NOT the child.
Ok, now let me finish last nite...
After that Berta finds a credit card on the floor... she with INCREDIBLE RUDENESS asks my name? I may have overreacted BUT she has already torked me off with the bossiness of moving me to a different line.. so I asked her not to speak to me.
She of course carried on her way VERY much into ME and what I was doing, her presence is just rude, she is snotty and absurd about the way she does things, and should NOT be treating customers this way..to finalize things as I was walking out the door she was grumbling about me and said to me (very very loudly) I AM JUST DOING MY JOB! I did tell her she was snotty, and she TURNED around and told me I WAS WORSE! Now, maybe true, but I am the customer and she had already stepped on my toes, SHE needed either to keep her mouth shut or take care of the situation VERY differently.
The cashier that was helping me ACTUALLY leaned over to make SURE that I got a comment card, WITHOUT EVEN HAVING TO ASK HIM. He actually said to me when I said that she needed to work on her politeness and she took her job a "bit" too seriously that he was not allowed to comment! HE EVEN KNEW SHE WAS IN THE WRONG! Berta needs some more training or maybe to be moved to a different department like the stock room, where she doesn't have to treat the customers with her frustration.
