I had a terrible experience with Sixt Rent a Car. Despite returning the vehicle in perfect condition, my 2000 AED caution deposit was never refunded, even after several weeks/months of repeated follow-ups. Their customer service has provided no valid explanation or resolution, only generic replies.
They now claim the 2000 AED was deducted toward traffic fines — but those fines were already charged separately. I’ve provided clear proof, yet nobody at Sixt has bothered to cross-check or even respond logically. The lack of accountability and transparency is deeply frustrating.
I’ve rented cars worldwide, but this has been by far the most unprofessional and disappointing experience I’ve ever had. It’s shocking how a supposedly reputable global brand can mishandle customer trust so badly.
Avoid Sixt at all costs — I will never rent from them again, and I strongly advise others to think twice before doing so.
Recommendation: Avoid
Dear Sixt UAE Management Team,
I am writing to formally escalate an unresolved issue regarding the refund of my 2,000 AED security deposit for rental RA-[protected], (Mercedes GLB, 18–22 September 2025, Abu Dhabi Airport).
I have been in contact with your customer service team since 30 September 2025. Despite multiple written assurances that the deposit would be released within 14–30 days, I have still not received the refund.
To summarise the situation factually:
I paid the full rental amount in advance (880 AED + 1,379.5 AED = 2,260 AED).
A 2,000 AED security deposit was then charged to my credit card (not merely held).
All traffic fines totalling 1,647.25 AED were later charged separately to my credit card.
On 20 October 2025, I was unexpectedly informed that “no deposit is to be released as it was used for outstanding balance,” which directly contradicts all previous communication and records.
This situation has caused considerable inconvenience, as I have effectively been charged twice — once for the fines, and again through the withheld deposit.
I would like to have an immediate manual investigation by your Finance/Accounts team and confirm that the 2000 AED deposit will be refunded to my credit card within 5 business days. As I have already paid the fines separately. Also, refer to my credit card statement, which confirms this
