Replacement windows
Just today a renewal by andersen rep came by for his 10am appt. The presentation was very slow and lasted 5 hrs. Side bar convo took up 1 hr tops. My hubby and i learned new things: difference bet. Their fibrex and vinyl; difference bet new construction windows made by andersen (Ready - made) vs. Replacement windows made by renewal (Custom built for your exsisting space) ; why new construct windows are less expensive than replacements ones; the difference bet. Homedepot's andersens and the replacement windows by renewal; difference in energy star requirements on thier product vs. Others; the warranty of the fibrex windows (20yrs) vs vinyl (5 to 10 yrs) ; quality of the installation, which i know is critical to the windows not leaking, building moisture etc. Bottom line, we were more informed and quality of product is high. I was definitely sold on the product. We want to change our window demensions, install a bay window, and use architectural design w color. He blew my budget out of the water as it was double what i expected to spend. (Wow) . The rep was friendly, not pushy but very chatty. He did work with me on changing a few things to reduce the amount. He did offer a small $1100 discount and told us about the $1500 gov rebate both of with made little difference on the overall price. Keep in mind, there is but so much discount he can give because "the product sells itself, the price is the price". It seems to be worth it if you plan on living in your home for 10+yrs or if you have deep pockets. As a consumer i always get caught in wanting the best product but not having the money to buy it right then and there. Its like buying the "all - clad" or the "t - fal" pot set; buying the bmw or the mazda. You will pay more for the better product or yes, you get what you pay for. Still shopping around. It would be nice to buy the renewals at a better price point. No im not a representative.

Have nothing to do with The Real Anderson Windows company
You gotta love the internet. Anyone can say anything and some will believe them. I can give you fact, not fiction about Andersen. Andersen Corp. built a factory 20 miles from the wood window facility to create a replacement window divsion made of composite. That replacement division is called Renewal by Andersen. All Andersen products have the AW etched in...

William,
I am not sure if it is to much drugs or liquor or maybe not enough education, but there is something very basic that is wrong with you.
Andersen Windows & Doors is noted as having the WORST warranty in the industry. All you have to do is check other manufacturers' warranties. Look them up and then ask yourself - WHY DOES ANDERSEN HAVE SUCH A TERRIBLE WARRANTY?. If you still want to live in never never land so be it. If you want to live in the real world then you should deal with reality.
I came to this site to look for a true review of the RBA product and can't believe what I have found.
What do you guys work for window world and Andersen? Bunch of ###s. Bottom line is that anyone who claims something will last a lifetime is a bald faced liar! How many cars have I owned, light bulbs that I have changed, watches that I have fixed, and even windows that I changed (yes a couple were even Andersen's.) But I got 23 years from some and 19 out of others. Which btw were replaced free of charge by Andersen corporate and I only had to pay for install again ($145) on the ones older than 20 years.
Why should Andersen or anyone give a life time warranty. I respect a company that tells the truth upfront 20 years on glass is phenomenal. 2 years on labor is reasonable, 10 years on parts and the frame is respectable.
And there is no need to respond you bunch of fools. I have had nothing but good experiences with my windows but now that they are past their prime I may buy some made of fibrex. And I am sure if and when I do I will have nothing but good things to say about them!
Ps: Maybe if you learned how to do a consultative selling cycle you won't have to complain about others who eat your lunch. What a joke a guy from window world (Which sells Andersen's for $800 less than RBA albeit much lower quality on here trashing same mfg. crazy fools!

The representative who came to your home was from a New Jersey company that bought a franchise from Renewal By Andersen. Renewal By Andersen makes the replacement windows for Andersen Windows and Doors. RBA also makes a replacement window for Andersen retail outlets like Home Depot etc. This window, The Woodwright, is better, less expensive (in your case it would have been in the $35, 000 range) with no high pressure sales tactics. In fact, you or anyone else can install the window with written instructions from Andersen guiding you. Stay away from the RBA Franchise.
I am looking to replace all the windows in my house and, of course, I thought of Andersen. I had a representative at my house and I loved the demonstration. The product looked really good and I was really interested. He quoted me $50, 000 price, but when I told him that I would like to think about it for a couple of days since it was a lot of money, He told me that if I made a decision on the spot that the price would drop to $35, 000. That completely turned me off. I felt like I was at a flea market. How can you sell a $50, 000 product for $35, 000? Its insane and it does not make sense. Had I accepted the $50, 000 quote, who would pocket the difference? The salesperson or the company? That is not a way of doing business.
Very disappointed of the way the salesperson did business, he was very pushy and looked like he was shoving the windows down my throat and that I had to purchase now. He was insulted that I did not make my decision on the spot.
I have been selling Andersen windows & many other windows since 1995. Of all the many windows companies out there, I have found Andersen to be the best YET! I live in central California where there are many so so window install companies. Most want to slam a vinyl piece of crap on your home and call it good, for twice the cost of an Andersen! NO one in the sate of California can offer a life time warranty. Milgard windows did it many years ago, but, the owner of the company knew he would only need to warranty 5% of them. Most people move every 7-10 yrs. Virgin vinyl with no structure to it (alum, steel) will warp and bow over time (fact). Aluminum windows will cause heat and cold to transmit into your house. Aluminum/Clad windows cant be fusion welded in the mitered corners, so they over lap them (this separates over time). All wood windows (most are Doug Fir & Pine) will rot over time in the weather. I would love to sell Renewal by Andersen again!
We have also found out, by purchasing 49 Pella Architect Series Double Hung windows, that Pella does not stand behind their products. We are now working out our differences in a court of law. As many of you may know, once you have been taken by a company, at least in Iowa, we only had 2 years to file with the court for help. We gave Pella the benefit of the doubt and nearly 2 years to fix our windows. They refused to even attempt to provide any communication unless we called every day or emailed every day. We then figured out that Pella was only "playing us" to run out their 2 year time frame. So here we sit, waiting on the Iowa Court System to play out. Our trial is set for Marion County Court, Iowa on February 12, 2013. This has been a long time coming, as we have been homeless since the fall of 2009 when we installed our Pella windows into our home. They leak water/snow so badly that we have an extremely awful mold problem when it is wet. You can see the videos that are posted on YouTube of our home under Pella Window Problems. We posted these so that other home owners could see the potential windows that they might be thinking of putting into their homes. We want to educate the population on our problems. Please do your homework!
Pella Warranty: 20/10/2 20 on glass seals 10 on non-glass 2 on install all FULLY transferable.
Pella has etched product keys in their windows since the 70's
Most window companies in my region DO charge by the opening and not by what is included I.E. there would be no charge for grids to be installed.
Up until 3 years ago the RBA website actually had a breakdown of performance comparing fibrex to wood, and the pine window (Andersen Corp) out-performed it in every category.
Fibrex is not wood, that is accurate, it is saw dust and glue, with several different material properties contributing to is longevity or quick demise.
I am located in the northern energystar region of the United States and would purchase wood clad (Marvin, Pella, Andersen) over the fibrex window 100 out of 100 time regardless of price.
The RBA (and 99% of all vinyl window companies) install practice is what is considered a pocket install where the work is done almost entirely on the ext of home and int trim is untouched. This is what has lead to the air, water, insect issues people see. The old frame from that "rotten wood window" is still in the opening, RBA just covers it with some ext. trim so that you cant see it.
The proper way to replace a window is to remove the entire unit down to the rough opening and re-insulate, seal, and trim the entire window inside and out, just as if the unit was a new construction unit without a nail flange. Flashing tape is a must. If done properly in an area where you get all 4 seasons a standard wood-clad unit will out-last vinyl every time and perform better than the fibrex windows over time.
It's fine if you don't agree, but I'm right
