Ralphs Grocery - "Service" from manager Felipe Gutierrez

I spent about $60 at the store at 9:37 PM on 04/28/2022. I rembered I forgot something and only wanted to spend the $60 so I asked to return a couple items so I could get the item I forgot. I apologized to everybody in line and the checkout clerk, who all said it was no big deal. It was after 9:00 Pm so it's not like there were tons of people trying to check out. But there were two or three people behind me. The clerk went to get the manager to help. As soon as he came over he started yelling at me and trying to humiliate me for returning something I just bought. He said "I am not giving you cash back so you can forget it. It is going back on your card." I told him I didn't need cash back. I calmly explained what happened and I just needed to exchange a couple things for the item I forgot. He still had his voice raised and everybody in the line was forced to watch as he continued to yell at me, making everybody uncomfortable. He continued to yell "you just bought this. Why would you buy something you were just going to return? You can't hold up the line like this. You should be more considerate to everybody in line." Then he still yelling told me "get over there so everybody else can continue checking out without you making everybody wait. What is your problem?" He just wouldn't stop.

Finally I told him that I shop here everyday and spend a lot of money in this store. I told him he had no right to treat me this way. I then asked him what his name was. He told me it was Sam. But on the receipt where I exchanged the items and purchased the item I forgot, it clearly stated his name as Felipe Gutierrez. Then he told me to go to yet another register, making as big of a deal as he possibly could, trying to make sure everybody in the store heard I had to return some items and I am a horrible person for making him have to do anything. I don't think he could even spell customer service and definately had no idea what it was.

I have never been treated so rudely by anybody my whole life as that jerk treated me tonight. Then after he already asked how I paid and I told him with a credit card he asked me if I was using an EBT card after he already saw my Visa card, just trying to get another dig in before I left. I asked him why would he ask me that because we already had the conversation where he not only knew I was using a Visa but saw it. He said "You can't try to buy cigarettes with an EBT Card", trying to make people think I am trying to do something dishonest or something. He was also assuming I am low income and must have an EBT Card. That is discrimination.

I live across the street in a million dollar house. How dare he treat me like this. I have always received great customer service from almost everybody that works there. I am very disappointed you would hire somebody so rude and discriminating. Normally I would boycott the store. Being a social media influencer, I would also share my experience with my followers and invite all of them to also boycott a place of discrimination and humiliation. But living across the street for almost ten years and going to your store so conveniently everyday I don't feel somebody who I have never even seen there before can run me out of my neighborhood store. I have lived in Point Loma all my life.

I am hoping you will assure me that I will never see him working at the store again so I can return and continue to be a loyal shopper at your store. I even have a credit card with your store. If he isn't fired, I won't be back. I will never run the risk of being treated that way again, nor should I have to. I don't think you would employ a manager who discriminates and is so rude to your customers. I figure he must be new, by having never seen him there, so you probably didn't know he lies to customers about his name to try and get away with this kind of behavior.

I look forward to hearing the rectification of this incident.

Desired outcome: I want an apology and I want him fired with no unemployment.
