PlayPhone PlayEdge Games and PlayKids

I did not authorized these charges and the total charges added up to $219.78 since August of 2020!
The charges started at $9.99 for six months and since it was undetected, the following month it doubled! The charge of $19.98 continued for 8 months until today.
I did receive credit for the last three months from Sprint. However, the main complaint is that I did not authorized nor used their service.

Desired outcome: I desire $159.84, which is the difference.

PlayPhone Unauthorized charges even after unsubscribing

A charge of $9.99 showed up on my Sprint's December, 2020 bill claiming to be Third Party Charges of some game from playphone.com, which I have no idea when or where I played in my phone.
The customer support of Sprint said I must have somehow subscribed to playphone and asked me to unsubscribe it to prevent further charges. I do not have any games on my mobile phone and I have no idea why I am getting this charge. I called 877-312-7002, the number provided on their website and followed their instruction to cancel the subscription.
At the end of the process I got a confirmation that my phone number is now unsubscribed.
I got the bill for January, 2021 and I am still getting charged. I have no idea why :
1. This company is charging me for?
2. Sprint is allowing this charge, when their customer support clearly said that they have disabled 3rd party charge function disabled for my phone number.

Desired outcome: Remove the charges from Jan, 2021 bill. Refund for the charges that were made on Dec, 2020 for a service that I never even know, let alone use.

PlayPhone playphone loot subscription

I received a text message from Sprint this afternoon stating that I had purchased $9.99/30 days with ongoing charges with a link to click. The link shows that I am being charged for a playphone loot subscription with a link to unsubscribe but no way to get my money back. I didn't buy anything and have no idea what this charge is for. I want this stopped before any charges hit my Sprint account. This charge was not authorized!

PlayPhone 3000 Playphone

Sprint allowed this company to bang me out of 9.99 a month for 2 phone lines for $120 dollars. Sprint acted as the collection agent for this despicable company and allowed this disreputable company to unlawfully rob me out of my hard earned dollars. Shame on you Sprint for allowing this scammy company to fleece your own customers. When I called Sprint to resolve issue, I was told they do not get involved with third party charges, yet they collect the money for these mafia style hoodlums at Play phone. This company should be BANNED from any app store- they have no phone # to reach them out and never ever return email inquiries. They use companies like facebook, sprint & At&T to steal peoples money and then hide behind their websites.

PlayPhone Fraudulent charges on phone bill

Playphone charged me >$150 on my and my wife's phone bill for playphone credits. Neither of us ever bought and have no idea what they are. AT&T said that they couldn't refund all the money just the last 2 months but it has been going on for 8 months. I even used AT&T's method to cancel it but that only seemed to add my line to this mysterious reoccurring fee. It is unbelievable in this day and age that a company can randomly charge your phone bill. AT&T rep said that they can't stop it because it's the law but that seems questionable. They need to be taken to court.

PlayPhone not authorized do not want

These people sent me a text message to mt cellphone. I don't normally texr and the number didn't look farmiliar' so I just deleted it. This was on my August 2010 bill along with four other similar ways of charging me through mt AT&T bill. This happened again in September, so I contacted AT&T and they told me they would remove the charges, which they did.
I also had them cancel my text messaging and web use. They were supposed to take care of unjoing me from this scam, and once again I have been cahrged $14.99 for the third time. Please unsubscribe me and stop adding charges to my bill including the $14.99 for this month. Peter C Small Jr. AT&T member

To the Kent community,

We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to express your experience with PlayPhone, and want to take this opportunity to firstly apologize for the misunderstanding with our subscription pricing plan, and secondly, to acknowledge that PlayPhone has not offered ringtones, wallpaper, or other similar offers like those mentioned in this forum for several years now. Our customer service representatives have worked hard to credit applicable users and our services are not associated with the individual charges of personal mobile phone providers, including Rogers.

PlayPhone’s Social Gaming Network (PSGN) is a state-of-the-art cross-platform mobile social gaming network, used by millions worldwide, that operates on a subscription model that can be cancelled at any time.

Kind regards,
Grace M., on behalf of PlayPhone

Yes, what a bunch of garbage!

I just noticed the same thing on my bill in Canada and called Rogers. I can't imagine anyone who uses Motime a) knowingly or b) with any satisfaction. Perhaps teenager use it for the ringtones? I questioned why Rogers even allows such a sneaky, underhanded company to have access to billing Rogers customers. Alas, I got Motime's number from Rogers. At first the CS rep at Motime didn't want to refund me, but upon complaining they agreed to send a cheque in the mail. This was not going to cover the taxes, however, so I complained about that too. Time will tell, as to what amount I receive.

I feel like contacting pone busters or some other governmental entity, as I think this whole thing is hogwash. I guess it is probably legal, but wow, what a scam. Just as with biletubes, I never used this service. Moral of the story; keep you eye on your phone bill, specifically third party charges.

I got scammed here in Canada too. I vaguely remember receiving the PIN after completing the facebook quiz or whatever and five months later I look at my phone bill and I've been charged a $13/month subscription fee for Playphone - never having downloaded a ringtone or used any product or service. After a few calls and emails to Playphone I finally got them to refund some of the monthly fees, but they claim that my wireless provider (Rogers) charged a $3 "DL fee" on top of their monthly subscription of $10 and won't refund this. Rogers says they are not able to determine whether any of the third party fees go to Rogers and in any case, they told me their policy is to refuse to adjust any third party fees whatever the circumstances. The whole thing has cost me $70 for nothing in return!
Here's what was on my phone bill:
06-Mar PlayPhone.ca°PlayPhone.ca Subscription 13.00
06-Mar 2WayTraffic°88788 METQZ 5.00
07-Apr MyThum PlayPhoneSubscription + $3 DL Fee 13.00

PlayPhone Unauthorized charges

This is a company that leeches you for unauthorized charges, generally for something you didn't opt out of after using your phone to authorize a "free" Facebook offer, like... well probably something you forgot ever even looking at.

The problem is, there's no accountability. I made a stink, and spent almost an hour going up the supervisor chain with AT&T until I received a $100.00 refund in light of the $250+ charged by this slight-of-hand subscription scam.

It took legislation to stop the banks from ripping us off with overdraft fees. I wonder if we'll have to go to that extreme to stop these ridiculous subscription ripoffs.

Don't forget your Twitter hashtags!

I totally agree. And playphone went even one further with me... I never even subscribed to start with... I didn't click on any links, or get a text message to respond to, and I dont' use facebook or twitter or any other social networking website or software... I just started to check the weather on my cell phone, and my browser opened up, and up popped the playphone website, just like any popup on the internet on your home phone. I have a weather app on my phone so I don't have to use a browser. When my browser opened, I immediately closed it, but by then, evidently, the damage had been done! This has GOT to be illegal. I don't know what kind of recourse we smartphone users have, but something has got to be done to reign this company in.

PlayPhone Unauthorized Subscription

I also reviewed my March 2009 AT&T cellular phone invoice and noticed an unauthorized subscription charge noted as Mobile Game Show, short code 20888, provider PlayPhone Inc., charged on 03/04/2010, for $14.99.

After reviewing the other complaint on this site and discovering that the subscription was linked to unanswered text messages, I recalled receiving messages, which I just deleted.

I called AT&T and after informing the service employee that I had an unauthorized subscription on my bill, she credited my account for all related charges, which she said would be effective within four hours. She also added Parental Controls to my phone as the way to block these types of unwanted purchases without blocking content. If I should want to purchase something via my phone, I must use a PIN number provided by AT&T. Although not ideal, at least AT&T was able to provide a solution.

I agree that this type of marketing procedure is fraudulent sales and needs to discontinued by PlayPhone immediately. Additionally, ATT should implement a spam blocker.

See the previous post are all older ones. Just an update they've been charging me on my wife's phone. I asked her what she was buying and she said nothing. She swore she never authorized anything. From what I read if you delete their stupid message you've agreed to buy their 'service' which is a rip off. I'll be calling Sprint and see what they say. They should be locking them out in the first place or preventing them from being able to rip people off with their scam.

I just realized I had the same charges on my phone bill. I called AT&T and they were able to refund me for up to 60 days...anything after that I had to take a loss on. I will be checking my bill on a monthly basis instead of just paying it for now on. I also googled PlayPhone, Ince and this is how I came across this page..I never signed up for any of this mess either..but I did get a message on my phone on a few occassions and I didn't pay any attention to them at first than I read one of them and replyed with STOP..this has been happening since the goverment let your cell phone numbers become public and there seems to be nothing you can do about it. I'm not happy about this and I can see/read where there are a number of people not pleased with this situation. Why should I have to apply to something I didn't request and why should I have to have my cell number public for all types of jerks/companies to call my cell. I pay for all incoming and outgoing calls and I don't want or need to pay for unwanted calls.

This amazing that this is even possible let alone legal! I was billed for over a year $12.99 per month. Dumb me for not looking at my bill for our family closer. I had to do some digging to get a phone number to reach a cust serv rep for playphone. I finally did at [protected] and received a full refund after a little pushing. At& T claims to have no information for this company yet they can waive fees and allow them access to bill fees to my account. Playphone couldn't even tell what app initiated this monthly bill. All of this is extremely shady! It screams fraud!

Wow, Grace! I see that you like to call people "idiots" for not reading the agreements, and it seems you didn't even read your own comment before posting to check for spelling errors. It even has a reminder to check your spelling and a spell check button! Maybe you are trying to be ironic. Wait, let me spell it your way: maybe "your" being ironic. Then I see your copy and pasted response from the company you work for which is... Playphone! I guess you have to get defensive, as every time your company gets away with the scam you get paid another ten bucks. You sound like the type to blame someone whose house was robbed for not putting up security bars. I hope, every day that you are employed there, you are flooded by calls from people that aren't going to put up with this crap. As a matter of fact, I'm going to try to see if you are working right now!

Hello,
This happened to me 2 days ago. While in Pandora app, an ads shows up that takes 2/3 of the screen with a very tiny X to close it. I clicked on the X and next thing I know, I got an SMS that I am being charged for $9.99 subscription. I called AT&T immediately and they gave me a credit for $9.99. I don't know why they didn't cancel the charge instead

To Grace Meza, I find it highly surprising if the company is not aware of this tactics, but I am giving the benefit of the doubt. If you want to improve service offering experience, do it like other proper company. If you use iTunes, Amazon or Google Play, it displays to user that they are being charged. Transparency goes a long way.

Hi 'laforbus'

Thank you for your question regarding text message rates. PlayPhone’s charges are separate from one’s phone carrier. Participation on Facebook in and of itself does not enroll users in our services.

PlayPhone’s Social Gaming Network (PSGN) (http://www.playphone.com/ ) lets you easily download mobile games, connect with your friends and play phone games. Most games are free to play and allow the player to purchase in-game items such as coins, chips, and power-ups.. We are constantly working towards improving our services and new service offering experiences for our consumers. We appreciate your understanding and hope this information has been of assistance.

Should you have an unresolved issue please email help@playphone.com.

Kind regards,
Grace M. on behalf of PlayPhone

Using big companies to bill on your behalf. Why don't you stick to apple apps and of people wants to purchase they can purchase it from there. Oh no wait! Companies that does this also got their cut. How do you feel if someone hack your pc event though u pay for all this security and firewall protection? U be mad, ?

If you go to the Playphone web site www.palyphone.com. You can see all the games that are made by Playphone, and that the Playphone games are games apps the you can download from the iTunes app store, Android/Google play store or play directly online form facebook. They are usually free (that is how they get you). And if you had read the the terms and conditions before you download the app/onlinegame (Which no one ever does but really really really should) You would of know that after you download it they will charge you what they want, through your mobile carrier. Because you agreed to this by saying yes to the terms and conditions. Some time they get you, because you were online and wanted to sign up for a contest. And you filled every thing out but then again did not read the terms and conditions before hitting submit, And if you did you would of see that they are going to charge you. The only way to get ride of them form you phone is to delete the app. Or if it was down through a contest then text the short code that is on your phone bill each month to have it stopped. And if you do that and you are still being charged. I know for a fact that you can call AT&T (not sure about other carriers) and ask them to put on the FREE Purchase blocker on your line and that will stop the charges. At the end of the day, any charges you get are your own fault for being a lazy and not reading thing before you buy them. If you are mad because you were best by a soft wear company. Then even mad because your phone carrier did not want to credit you back for charges that are you own fault. Then I am sorry your a idiot.
At the end of the day you should Read thing before you buy them,
check your phone bill every month.
And ask your carrier if there a way to prevent this before hand (Because there is) FREE PURCHASE BLOCKER.

PlayPhone Unauthorized billing

They are at it again! Approximately 6 months ago, I was charged for downloads I did not download. I called AT&T and they were very helpful. This month, I was charged for games and subscription service I did not subscribe to! I did the "STOP" text to 77888 and received the message "You are not subscribed to this service." So why am I being charged? (To make matters worse, it's a WORK cell phone, so I have to pay the company!)
