Planet Fitness compounding charges

Beware of this club! They are very vindictive. They first signed my son up without my permission, then 4 months later told me I had to sign a form for him or he would be in trouble. Unfortunately I did but it was in fact them that would have been in trouble. We went to cancel on April 1st and were told to pay 250 to cancel I said, absolutely not, and they said they would continue to charge my card. I quickly cancelled that card but the charges are still compiling. WOW what a crock. They know they were in the wrong but, they will not admit it and are now calling my minor sons cell phone and harrassing him. Amazing people. I am glad I found out who they are before I joined myself.
Sincerely, Darlene

company is a joke you can not cancel your membership. i have faxed and signed the forms and they still take money out. dont call the corprate franchise place they will tell you they have nothing to do with it at all. the owner is never avaliable and the smart mouth girl madison is a joke. let me rephrase that i think it is a woman. ahe was rude and has a smart mouth on her. after the two dopes had trouble trying to cancel my account i was told to fax in my cancelation letter which i did. know a month later i find out the fax machine does not print and my accounts are still open. beware of these crooks and madison tells you she is manager and owner but i am second guessing that she has no customer service skills.

First, your son signed up without YOUR permission, second to cancel, it doesn't cost you a dime.

Nice try lady.

Do not join this gym they specifically tell you it is month to month payment, cancel at any time, then they have a personal trainer tell you you can do month to month personal training for an additional fee. When you are ready to just work out on your own they tell you you owe 288 dollars. This place is the biggest scamming gym ever. It is better to just pay more for a reputable gym then go to this gym where they con you into something you did not want.

I have been a member at planet fitness for a very long time, and do enjoy working out there, except the last few times i have been there, one of the employees a tall long brown haired girl, i believe her name is britney, she has been hanging all over one of the trainers in a red shirt, he is a short young man... what upset me the most was she kept...

After additional fees appeared on my bank statement I called to inquire. I was treated so disrespectfully that I was shocked. This company can send me emails daily about upgrades and getting friends and family to join, but doesn't notify me of an additional charge, then berates me for asking about it. When I asked if they cared about what a bad customer...

Planet Fitness membership

I will be calling all the local news channels to see who will come out to cover this story.

I joined a world gym in franklin mass, last month, paid 140.00 for sign up and 40.00 for the first month for me and my husband. I joined the gym for the classes and the day care.
On the first of the next month they changed the gym to planet fitness, keep in mind they are the same owners. The took the classes away and the day care. When I called for a refund they refused. My attorney is writting a letter as of Saturday and I will start to call the owners every day until I get my refund. They had over 300 members cancel and alot of locals not happy with them at all.

Just out of co-insidence they took out of everyone's debit or credit cards on the 1st of the month and put the new name up on the 2nd of the month. Taking everything out of the gym by the end of the week.
They are the biggest pigs I know.
They started a world storm with me.
This is just the beginning.

It's not the money, it's the principle

Also, it is really shady that planet fitness owns world gym and it was a world gym for about a year? Shadiness!

I fully agree, Orange UK has most incompetent and rude customer services staff. I just got mu contract wit them they sent me a fault phone I returned the phone back to them and I have the Royal mail delivery confirmation receipt. I called them every day morning, afternoon, evening they say they phone is not on their system, I said the phone is deliver and confirmed received by Orange and I provided them the proof they still couldn't trace the phone every call they give me stories to call later in the afternoon etc. etc. finally when they managed to track the phone they handed me over to their rudest customer service guy I think he was drunk the way he was talking and he when I started to tell him my history and the crap service from Orange he started shouting at me and threatened to cancel my contract and put the phone down one me! I have checked online and it looks like I'm not the only one who suffer from Orange's rude customer services staff. My advise do not deal with them it is not worth it go to a phone company who is willing to help and listen to its customers!

Planet Fitness peeping tom!

Awful!
A peeping tom was arrested for video taping people getting changed! It was in all the papers!
I went to cancel my membership and the manager charged me a cancellation fee! I said you hired a peeping tom, I want my money back. She said sorry! A very nasty manager.
She should be fired along with the peeping tom.

Planet Fitness BEHAVIOR

I WENT IN DECEMBER 19, 2007 TO PLANET FITNESS TO SIGN FOR A MEMBER SHIP FOR MY DAUGHTER. SO ONE OF THE STAFF CAME TO HELP ME TO SIGN UP. WE SAT DOWN AND STARTED GOING THROUGH THE TYPE OF PLANES THAT THEY HAD AND THEY TOLD ME ABOUT THE BLACK PLAN, SO I TOOK IT. THAT SAME DAY THE START UP FEE WAS $38.15, SO I PAYED FOR IT. BUT THEN THE STAFF LADY TOLD ME THAT I HAD TO HAVE A CHECKING ACOUNT BUT I DIDN'T HAVE MY CARD WITH ME. THE STAFF TOLD ME THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO CANCEL IT AND DO IT ALL OVER UNTIL I COME BACK NEXT TIME. AND SINCE I ALREADY GAVE THE MONEY SHE SAID SHE WOULD HOLD THE MONEY AND JUST GIVE MY THE RECEIT TO SHOW THAT I ALREDY PAYED FOR IT. BUT THE PROBLEM IS NOT ABOUT HER, IT IS ABOUT THE MANAGER. I WENT TO PLANET FITNESS TODAY (DECEMBER 26,2007) AND I HAD TO SIT DOWN WITH THE STAFF SINCE I HAD TO SIGH FOR A NEW PLAIN. AFTER SHE FINISHED EVERY THING SHE TOLD ME THAT I WOULD PAY LESS MONEY THEN BEFORE. I SAID OK. I THEN ASKED HER FOR THE DIFFERENCE AND WHEN SHE CAME BACK SHE TOLD ME THAT THE MANAGER SAID NO. SO I WENT TO THE FRONT DESK TO TALK TO THE MANEGER TO DESCUSS ABOUT THE REST OF THE MONEY. THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS WHEN I WAS TALKING TO HIM HE STARTED RASING HIS VOICE AND WAS MAKE BAD JOKES ABOUT ME ASKING ME IF I WANTED WATER TO REPLACE THE MONEY. I SAID NO. AND HE KEPT JOKING SAYING DIFFERENT JOKES ABOUT ME. I REALLY DIDN'T LIKE IT. I FELT REALLY INSULTED AND ALOT OF DISSRESPECT. AS A MANAGER INCHARGE OF A PLACE AND STAFF BEHIND HIM WATCHING, HE SHOULD SET A GOOD EXAMPLE TO SHOW HOW TO HANDLE A SITUATION LIKE THIS. AS A FIRST TIME CUSTUMER I EXSPECTED MORE THAN WHAT I GOT. ESPECIALLY FROM A MANAGER. AND I THINK THAT A PERSON ACTING LIKE THAT TO A CUSTUMER SHOULD NOT BE INCHARGE. I HOPE THAT YOU TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY IN CONSIDERATION.

THANK YOU

CARL CINEAS

Planet Fitness be careful when quiting this gym!

I had to quit Planet Fitness in Loudeville, NY because I moved. I mailed them the certified letter as asked and I received the receipt card showing that someone in the Planet Fitness Company had signed for the letter on Oct. 1, 2007. I called a few days later to check and make sure they would no longer be charging my card. Somehow I still got charged for the month of October. The gym is now saying they did not receive it until Oct. 12, conveniently, the cut-off each month for quitting the gym is the 10th, therefore, if they receive your letter before the 10th of any month you will not be charged, if after the 10th you are charged for the whole month.

Now I have to fax them my receipt to prove that someone did in fact sign for the letter on Oct. 1, and they claim they will reimburse my credit card. They tell me that as soon as the company receives a quiting letter it is immediately faxed out to the specific gym I had signed-up at. I really believe they are just trying to get the extra $10 from me, in hopes that I would not notice it on my credit card or had lost the return receipt and would not be able to prove that they did in fact receive the letter before the 10th. Claiming that they did not receive the letter until after the 10th may be a way for the company to make extra money. If they do this to multiple people who quit, it could really add up.

The Lesson: Make sure to follow-up with them, keep your receipts, and check your credit card statements.

I fully agree with all these complaints! I needed to cancel for one year after having brain surgery and hoped to return when able. I filled out the form which was conveniently "lost" twice and had to block them from withdrawing from my account as they would not stop charging me. They have since notified a collection agency for $80.00. I will not only never return there, I have cost them several potential customers from joining

I did a search to see if I could close my planet fitness account online to save a trip to the gym. The first 10 responses were about this situation exactly. Poeple still being charged dispite closing their account months or even years ago. And letters needing to be certified in order to even get a glance at from ABC Financial. Since reading all of this, I have prepared myself for any situation which would come my way for cancelling my own account and keeping it that way. Its a pretty easy process if done correctly.

I called my local planet fitness and asked about closing my account. I was told by an in-experienced girl that I can either come in and cancel it, or send a letter to "the main office" saying you wish to close your account. The girl neglected to provide and further information as to where the main office was, so I figure go down and fill the form out.

I was a black card member within the first year of creating my account so I had to pay a buy-out fee of $58 to close my account. Fair enough, I knew that when I signed up that there would be a fee to close the account. I asked for the cancel account form and they handed it to me with the attitude that I am not of any importance anymore. Which was fine, I didnt want to be anything to them anymore.

On the form there is a spot for your account number, address, why your cancelling and a spot for the employee to sign. Since you have to live more than 50 miles away from a planet fitness to be in good standing to close, I wrote I was moving to the other side of the country (Nevada). I didnt provide a new address, Just (Moving to NV). The kid who was on the counter watched my every letter as I wrote my reasoning. He tried to make a comment about how far away it was from my current location. I just said (Yeah) and kept it minimal.

Now heres where you need to be thorough. If I didnt read about the horror stories I would have never done this and just assumed everything would work out fine. I hadned the paperwork to the kid. As soon as I did, he grabbed it and said (ok thanks youre all set.) YOU NEED TO GET A COPY OF THIS FORM! There is a pink copy available for you and you NEED it as a form of proof.

If you had to pay a buy-out fee like myself, request a copy of the receipt for that as well. That will ensure that as soon as the buy-out fee was paid, your account should have been terminated. They will not provide these papers unless you request them.

Now Planet Fitness requires a credit card or bank account on file. If you had a credit card, call or go to the issuing bank and say your account may have been compromised and you would like to lock the card and be issued a new card number. They will never refuse to issue a new card number under that statement. And youre not actually lieing either. You dont want Planet Fitness to keep charging you monthly fees after you closed the account. Make sure your card/account isnt tied into another automatically paid bill or subscription. If it is, update your account information.

The next billing cycle (The 19th of each month for me), call Planet Fitness and ask the status of your account number #####. They will either tell you its closed (Hopefully) or that there is an outstanding balance of $xx.xx. If there is a balance, mention that you have copies of forms dated on _____ that show you closed your account and there should be no balance pending.

File a claim with whoever needs to be notified that there is an error with your account. ABC Financial is Planet Fitnesses Collection company. So Give them a call.

Hopefully this will help someone else be able to successfully close their PF account. What theyre doing is illegal and Im surprised nothing has come of it yet.

I moved as well in May 2008, after having a Planet Fitness membership for a couple years. I tried calling the Planet Fitness where I had worked out, and the guy said I couldn't cancel over the phone (even though I was 500 miles away now) - he gave me another # for some regional office. I called the regional office and no one answered the phone so I left a voice message - I didn't get a response. Then I sent a letter cancelling membership. Then, I get a BILL in the mail (my credit card statement had been charged previous to that). This was the first bill I ever got from them. My credit card didn't get charged that month, so I assumed they had cancelled my membership - WRONG. Now, my credit card is being charged every month. I even tried leaving a raging 2nd voicemail at their regional office to no avail. American Express hasn't completed their "investigation" yet.

Right you are my friend. I too had a miserable and insulting experience with the Planet Fitness franchise. I've been training for greater than 30 years, and have maintained good physical form. I was harassed by their uneducated and unprofessional staff for wearing a bandanna on my head. They labeled me as a trouble maker and was subsequently contacted at my office sometime soon after by one of the owners of that gym. He was not properly informed by one of his underpaid underachievers who manned the operation that particular day, and discussed my "gym behavior" or at least what was presented to him by this flunkee. Within an instant I knew that I was dealing with a bunch of common idiots with absolutely no social grace or professional business ethic. The operation is less than mediocre, and the managerial staff is pathetic. I dissolved my "black card membership" and wound up at another well equipped gym for a few dollars more and laugh at it now. What we experienced is what this country has morphed into. Poor customer service, rude and untrained people have replaced professional and courteous service. PF is offers much of nothing and it's corporate office answers to no one. It's obvious that PF attracts the consumer that would gladly pay for a cheap service. Consequently, that same consumer seems to place very little focus on value. I suppose that's what makes this country and it's people diverse. This being said, "buyer beware."

I purchased a black card membership in the Boston area about a year ago and moved to Central Florida. While looking for a place to live I worked out at the Orange City location. At first it seemed pleasant enough, though there is no doubt PF is not made for a person who truly is looking to get into shape as they are missing a number of things found in most well-prepared gyms. No exercise balls (they claim because of lawsuits), no foam rollers, and a real lack of equipment meaning any time you're there at rush hour you are going to wait in line a number of times.
As an ACSM trainer, I give advice to people at no charge. I don't give them cards or advertise any business, just trying to correct any number of mistakes. There is a no-neck psuedo-trainer at Orange City named Rick. This is one of those muscle-heads who will give you a big smile, a handshake, and make sure everyone knows he's supposed to be the alpha dog in the room. In other words, someone looking to impress you.
I was told by a number of clients there Rick was talking about me to others indicating how ticked he was that I was "giving out advice and stealing my customers". No biggie, I thought nothing of it.
PF has this "rule" where they demand you clean off your machines after every use. Cleanliness sure, but half the people don't do it. Also the liquid they use to clean off machines is chemically treated and has an ill effect on some people if breathed in.
I sometimes forget to clean off my machines, I admit. The manager there, Kristine, will smile and be your friend as they all will. Let me point out that unlike places such as Gold's Gym, very few of them have any idea what they're doing. I asked one girl if they had a bosu (very popular in training for even those beginning) and she had no idea what I was talking about.
After hearing about Rick's complaint, I found myself being harrassed on almost a daily basis by the staff about cleaning machines after use. Doing my work in a circuit, it means I go between 3 machines one at a time. Sometimes I forget to wipe the machines.
On August 11 I went there to work out. I used a row machine for 3 sets, and a young man asked if he could work in. I was done, told him yes and let him have the machine.
I was approached by Rick who snapped "what's your card number?" I told him I didn't know it by heart, to which he said "OK, wait here". He went to the front desk. I moved on to another machine.
I was then interrupted right in the middle of a set by Kevin, another psuedo-manager who really has no idea of what goes on in a gym. He then began to chastise me for not cleaning off my equipment.
I won't lie, I was angry. You talk to someone in the middle of a workout and see what happens. I never raised my voice, but used the "F" word a few times about being interrupted, constantly harrassed about this, and being chastised in front of other customers. He walked away.
When I was leaving Kevin said "maybe you shouldn't come here anymore" and threatened me with termination. He also said Rick told him I called Rick an "a--hole" and I shouldn't come there anymore. I wasn't happy. He said "talk to Kristine the next time you're here and work it out". I said OK and left.
AFter that and after 3 tries on the Internet seeking to have my membership transferred to Lake Mary, I started working out at LM. They knew my name as I told them each time in the door, they checked me against their computer and never said a worOn 8/27 I went into Lake Mary, my transfer finally done, gave them my number, to which I was stopped and told I had been terminated. Again, not happy but knew where this came from.
I contacted the PF home office in New Hampshire, and you have to do some digging to get their number. I was given to Bill at [protected] X 106. I told him the tale, he said someone would get back to me from the Orlando office.
I received a call from Joe Landau, who said he was the District Manager. There is NO WAY you will ever get the name of the corporation or their office number because they won't give it out to consumers, which should be a first warning sign. So here you go. The Central Florida Planet Fitness's are owned by Marobe Inc., called a "consultant referral service", and their number is [protected]. Use it.
Joe listened and had already made up his mind. I indicated to him that I have been slandered, and I work in regional and national TV/radio and don't need someone telling lies about me to anyone, period. He didn't care. Said he was backing his people, I swore at his employee, and they were well within their rights to terminate me. In other words, they don't want to hear ANYTHING a consumer says, they can blow you out whenever they want. No warning, nothing.
Rick lied about what was going on, Kevin knew that stopping me in the middle of a workout wouldn't be taken well, and I was harassed over a couple of months by the so-called staff.
Let me now tell you about Lake Mary. I have NEVER worked out in a bigger pigsty. The machines are falling apart, ripped pads, dirty equipment, broken plumbing, you name it. Offensive.
By they way, my termination notice was dated 8/11/08. I worked out at Lake Mary 3 times between then and the date I was told I was terminated. Joe's excuse was a flimsy one at best about "I guess your name didn't make it into the computer". Sorry, won't work. They knew my name every time I walked in the door, and well before my last visit there one of the Lake Mary kids said he had talked to Kristine and received her side of the story. Had I really been terminated on 8/11 they would have known it. Obviously the termination was post-dated to fit their needs. There is no doubt they decided to terminate me after I complained the main office in New Hampshire.
Planet Fitness is a fraud. Their price is low but their equipment is lacking, their employees have almost no knowledge of working out (which is dangerous for the novice working out), and they WILL find a way to terminate you if they want to. You will get NO assistance or consumer assistance from them at all.
I went to Gold's Gym and for $10 more a month got a beautiful place to work out in Altamonte Springs. DO NOT join Planet Fitness. DO NOT be taken in by their "It's all about you" slogan. They are a farm churning out business and will take your money and run.
They are a ripoff. Go to Gold's and get a real gym with people who know what they're doing. You won't be disappointed.

Be Very careful. They will send your account to collections even when you have done everything necessary to cancel the membership.

Over 2 years ago we went into Planet Fitness and explained that we were moving out of South Florida and needed to cancel our membership. We spoke to the General Manager whose name is Jay. Jay Said, “send a letter to ABC Financial, the company that does the auto withdrawal from the account monthly indicating that they should cancel it”. On 3/28/2006 we sent ABC Financial a certified letter indicating that we are canceling the membership the auto withdrawal just as the General Manager Jay had instructed. ABC Financial then terminated the auto withdrawal from my account.

After more than two years after the cancellation, we got a call from a collection agency indicating that we owe over Thousand ($1, 000) for membership fees to Planet Fitness. We never had any payment issues on any bills including Planet Fitness and were quite surprised at the fact that we were getting a collection call

Yes, I'm having a bad experience with them also. I cancelled my membership with a certified letter almost a year ago. During this time I didn't receive any letters or correspondents from planet Fitness. Now a year later I get a letter from a collection agency saying they never received my cancellation. It's unbelievable how they can do this, I wish there was a way to fight back. Any Lawyers want to start a class action suite for unfair business tactics.

My wife and I went to the Plante Fitness new location in Knightdale NC to sign up for a miebership. Having been a member of World Gym for 15 years this was first thought to be a great site.

I told the gym rep we wanted to sign up for a year and we would be paying in advance. He informed me we could not pay in advance. The only way we could join was to give them access to our checking account.

DO WHAT! I can't pay you in advance for our membership? No he replied it is company policy. Please explain. Again he said it is company policy.

People should never allow anyone access to their checking account through a draft. They can continue to charge your account and some people have had to sue to get it stopped.

We left bewildered.

Planet Fitness freezing membership!

I have a complaint about freezing my account at planet fitness, they told me that i have to freeze my account every three months. And when the three months are up i can get another doctors note and they will freeze the account again. So i went up to the gym to freeze my account again and the lady said that i have to pay for a month and then i can freeze my account again and i feel that i shouldn't have to pay for a month that i cant use. I'm pregnant and my doctor told me not to go to the gym. For the remainder of my pregnancy, because of some problems that i am having. And when i told the lady why. She asked m what the problem is. I said dose it matter. I have a doctors note. And i don't feel that i have to tell my personal problems to a stranger. So she got flip and said that i should just cancel my account with them.

Sincerely,
Morgan Peyatt.

Please help us understand... If you are too ill to attend the gym why are you freezing the account going to the doctor to get notices to give you an excuse? Why don't you just cancel your gym membership and purchase gym equipment for your home? Is your gym membership a condition of you getting or qualifying for social security/ssi or other government assistance? I say this because your post doesn't make sense unless you are trying to obtain benefits that you probably aren't entitled to

Wow is all I can say. Some of these complaints seem legit while others sound like personal issues with staff. Either way it makes me just a bit leery. I walked into the El Monte, CA location fully set to join PF. I am looking for a gym to get back in shape. I felt ignored by staff when I walked in. When I finally sat with a representative it felt like she could care less about sharing the good points about the gym. I got the impression this place had an "I could care less attitude about everything." The whole "No Judgement" was more of a "I don't care about anything here attitude."
In all honesty though, it is really about my journey and weather or not I will be a self starter and do my workout. I really just need a place with great equipment and an atmosphere where I don't have to feel like I am being watched to see if I am talking to other members for personal gain. I was involved in the fitness industry and have a background in it. I would hate for someone to ever tell me I could not talk to other members about my workout routine and get my membership randomly canceled. I will revisit this gym soon and the other locations to see if it is like this everywhere before I join. The price is really great for what I need at this point in my life.

The "Customer Service Representatives" are no better at the Kirkwood Highway PF in Delaware. A lady tried to get assistance for proper use of a machine and no one responded to her request so she asked me. I was helping her when the manager approached and informed me that only trained professionals on staff could assist her. He then proceeded to talk to me like a child and only embarrassed himself because of the unprofessional and rude manner in which he handled the situation. When I went to the desk to get contact information to contact PF corporate the girl was too busy on her cell phone making a date for the weekend. HORRIBLE customer service. They have a Lunk Alarm, maybe they should install an "UNPROFESSIONAL PF ALARM" as well.

Planet Fitness harassed and threatened by another member of the gym

Planet Fitness
113 Crosby Rd.
Dover, NH 03820

At a staten island, ny location, where i have been a member since opening day, i was harassed and threatened by another member of the gym. I asked the staff in assistance in either removing this person or simply asking her to stop the cursing, threats and harassment. The staff member walked away offering no help.

I sought the help of management and the owner of the club. When i told my story they seemed very sympathic and told me they would look into it. Two weeks later, my membership was canceled! I never cursed. I never threatened anyone or harassed anyone. I was shocked and wrote registered letters to both the owner and the ceo asking them to review this and reconsider. I phoned the corporate office many times. To date there has been no response! They have not refunded my money!

I would still be enjoying this gym had i not complained to management!

I am extremely upset with the way I am being treated. You are stealing MY MONEY! I joined the Wilmington Delaware club in July of last year. I got the black membership and then moved 5 months later. Knowing I had to wait a year to cancel or be subject to the early cancellation fee, I waited and continued to be charged the $20 monthly fee without protest even though I could no longer attend the gym. I stopped using the checking account in June of this year and when I started using it again in October of this year they charged the membership fee. I called in and demanded that they close my membership since it had been over a year and I was no longer subject to the cancellation fee. "KEVIN" the manager assured me it would not happen again. then today My account has been charged again for the membership fee. It's thanksgiving and I don't get paid again until the day after so everything I had in my account was for my family's thanksgiving food. $20 may not be alot but to people on a budget in this economy it is. I called the gym and spoke to "Kevin" again who says that he couldn't cancel my membership without a certified letter. (even though I hadn't been there in over a year) after explaining the situation he put me in by not canceling the membership last month, he still refused to give me his manager's phone number. he said I had to wait until December 1st. he was very unconcerned and treated the situation sarcastically even laughing at times. He even told me that they will continue to take my money even though I have not been there until I either come there in person or send a certified letter, neither of which I can afford to do. I feel as though Planet Fitness is taking advantage of me in a very bad time in my life. I wanted to contact FOX 29 news but decided to give the company a chance to respond 1st. all I want is my money back!

My son was let go from his position at Planet Fitness. The manager was annoyed because he plays high school football. He is in a playoff game and the game was changed to a Saturday. He needs to find someone to cover his shift. There are only 2 other employees who are trained to close the gym. She was annoyed because he suggested that all employees should be trained to close so they can have someone to cover your shift. Her excuse for letting him go was that he was not performing his duties while closing for the night. She never bought this up to him before! She bad mouths her employees to other employees. Students come in to fill applications & if she doesn't like the way you look, will throw application in garbage. She threatens the students & tells them if they don't learn their position, she will get rid of them. She is just a [censor]! Very unprofessional. The company doesn't provide corporate telephone numbers! Why not? You don't want to hear the [censor]? Someone needs to fire this [censor] because she treats her employees like crap!

Planet Fitness In Woburn Ma. I found this gym to be very vague & unspecific in their rules & regulations. I was told not to leave my gym bag in the chairs or on the floor by one of the female attendants. She told me I could leave it in the locker room. I said, 'Ok, I don't have a lock so is it ok if I bring it with me?' She said ok, as long as you don't leave it on the floor. I said is ok to bring it with me & she said yes. So I went to the treadmill, hung my bag up on the fence by the treadmill & started my workout. I used 2 other machines with no problem. I took a shower & as soon as I got out of the shower, this kid[with all kinds of metal sticking out of his face, particularly his lower lip] called me & told me to sign this paper. I looked at & it was a paper CANCELLING MY MEMBERSHIP FOR NON-COMPLIANCE! I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT! 'I said, 'What? Non-compliance? What are you talking about?' He told me in a very hostile tone, 'Look, you were told at LEAST TWICE to put your gym bag away & you didn't comply! I'm cancelling your membership!' I refused to sign the paper as I said I didn't do anything wrong therefore why should I sign it? I was told Not to put the bag in the chair & NOT to leave it on the floor & I didn't!' He INSISTED the female worker told me at least TWICE to put my bag in the locker room. [she didn't] He consulted with her & she said she did but I can say in all honesty she didn't. She told me not to leave the bag on the floor & I didn't. I hung it up on the metal fence. We kept going back & forth like this, back & forth. I told him that I have been a member of this gym in good standing for almost 2 years now & I have NEVER had a problem before now nor was I EVER told to cancel my membership. Fianally, this kid said to me, Look, when you go beyond this entrance, you can't have ANYTHING on you but your keys & cell phone!' Well, if SOMEONE would have TOLD me that...THEN MAYBE there wouldn't have been a PROBLEM! Also, when they said, 'You can't leave your bag on the floor' I took them at their word & brought my bag with me. What this idiot meant was, 'Don't bring your bag in the exercise area' If he would have just TOLD ME THAT FROM THE BEGINING, RATHER THAN TRY TO CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP...THIS WHOLE PROBLEM COULD HAVE BEEN EASILY AVOIDED. I found this kid [with pointy metal sticking out of his lower lip] very loud, aggressive, rude & angry. Not professional AT ALL. There are FAR better & more effective ways to communicate. Definetely, the staff there is DESPERATE need of training in dealing with people. Because of this incident, I could not recommend this gym to anyone~

My daugher just went to work out at the gym and she felt weird about being there and having her possessions in the locker room, SHe went to look and 425.00 was stolen out of her purse when she made the complaint they were saying yeah there has been some of this activity going on, HMMM Also when asked if they had cameras becasue this all happened in 20 minutes they said we are not sure? How could you not know and why would that be a good question? C'mon commen sense. Now she is out of 425.00 and I think if this activity has been going on they should post it all over the gym. You would think right.

We all need to get together and write the owner of this franchise and if need be from reading the post as a group take legal action against the miss conduct of these facility's. I think we should create a chat to discuss all the problems and compose a letter. The planet fitness I attend in Orlando, FL in the most dirtiest off gyms I have ever been to in my life. I do not think the facility has been cleaned in weeks. I tried to call the corporate number but I cant even find it on the website or online. I told the staff of the condition of the facility and he stated sorry we have been busy. The way this company is ran is unacceptable to us Americans and we need to do something to stop it from continuing its business or lead it to making a drastic change. The low price of a gym shouldn't put people in danger of their health, lives or any other factors. I hope we can all come together soon.

I am a current Employee of Planet Fitness and I've got to say that you guys are not too far off. Although it's not only the members that are mistreated. The owner of my particular franchise bounces paycecks to employees, refuses to obey the law by paying time and a half on holidays and pays bi-weekly which is not allowed in my state. It's said to say but even employees aren't allowed to have the corporate number. And the employees do judge members on a frequent basis.

I felt the same way with this company since the first time I got there the staff told me that there is nothing more that they enjoy the most for her that to take the membership of someone in front of the crow. I did not pay attention to her until she did it to me. I felt that since day one she was in a mission to get people out of the club. I think that her only mission is to take as much club member she can as long she consider the goddess of the club. It was rude the way she handle the situation because she said that" I'm the nasty and means in this club" which I do not consider appropriate. That staff member thinks she was God and he owner and I won't be satisfied until I filed a complaint the corporate investigate the situation because she kicked me out of the club like dog. hugo_burgos@live.com

Planet Fitness Rude staff and manager!

On 04/23/07 I enter the gym in the location about and I didn’t have my card. this is not he first time I didn’t have my card and was shocked when the guy at the counter (sean) told me “you need your card.” oh dear he tell a paying customer they need anything. I then told sean I need nothing. he then said “I will cancel your membership then.” upset and appalled I called you’re the general manger, and left my cell number for a call back. I was surprised that while sitting at my desk at work she called my office number and left the rudest tone message I have ever heard. I called her back and she (debra) informed me that my membership was canceled as if she was doing me a favor by having me. beware of rude staff and manager!

On March 25, at 10:30 am, a Planet Fitness employee refused to put closed captions on a tv. I am deaf in one ear and partially deaf in the other ear. I need closed captions when I watch tv, which I do when on the treadmill. The ADA considers deafness a disability.

I received a threatening phone call from Asst Manager Tracy Brown telling me if I ever us the back exit again I'd be suspended. I only made that mistake once because there were no signs whatsoever forbidding the use of said back exit. Tracy Brown did however followed me out the door to tell me not to use the door ever aging. I have not used since.

The experience on the gym in Salem, Oregon is awful.

The mens showers don't work most of the time, even after been reported almost everyday. The inside temperature is too hot, they turn on the ventilation, making you sweat and uncomfortable. Also the staff is not friendly.

An Advertisement of being a “judgement free” zone yet having a sign that is judgmental?

“ LUNK ALARM

Lunk (lunk) n. [slang] one who grunts, drops weights or judges.

There are a limited amount of stairmills at the location I go to and one has been broken for about 2 weeks and has not been fixed. This results in waiting to use the machines and delays completion of workouts. I asked the desk person and they said they had to wait for the owner to do something,

I have been a member for many years, Recently the gym located in Hemet California installed new treadmills that are totally inappropriate for older members like myself. They are too high up and the rails do not extend for getting off the treadmill. This is age discrimination which is illegal.
