holding money hostage
I went to pay my electric bill and i told the lady i need this amount put on my bill and she messed up and put a different amount on my bill from my green dot card and i said no ...thats the wrong amount...so she cancelled it and when she did the money went into a holding state on the green dot card and i cant get it put back on my card until the experation date of the holding status which is 3 wks. from then...sooo i have no money now to pay on my account til payday and they are going to turn my electric off-tomorrow no thanks to the scamming green dot company. I tried calling them several times to plead with them and i get the same story of"you have to wait until the experation date of the hold goes by...and everytime you call them they charge you two dollars on your card right away...scamming ###...Bad company and useless card.
terrible experience
I don't know how many of you have used the H and R Block Emerald Card to receive your tax returns. I have. We can keep the cards for direct deposit or even load funds on it through Western Union or Money Gram. I loaded money on the card about three weeks ago so I could reserve a hotel and purchase amtrak tickets online. I loaded a little extra just do I wouldn't have to carry cash around. I decided to pay my cell phone bill and the company accidentally overcharged me, so they sent the money back to my account immediately, but told me to wait about 3 to 5 business for it show up. On the fifth business day it wasn't there so I contacted the phone company to make sure they sent my money back and they actually did the same day. I then contacted Card Services who said my money was returned but in order to release the hold the phone company would have to fax some information to them. I contacted the phone company and let them know what to fax and they did that immediately. I called Card Services back few hours later who said it would take 24 to 72 hours to post to my account. Well, on the third day I called again and then someone told me that they had to create a case and I would have to wait 3 more days for the holds department to respond. After 3 days, which was just Tuesday 8/26, they said they never received the fax. I told them that I had spoken with other representatives a couple of days before him who told me he had. He said to have them receive the fax and I had to wait another 3 days or to wait until the 29th, because the hold would fall off on it's on. I said forget it, I'll wait until Friday the 29th. Mind you all out there, the money was originally posted back to my account on August 11th. So, when the 29th came and my money wasn't on there, I called them back and they said the hold will fall off at midnight (CDT) or that I should just say the 30th and they were so confident. I just checked at 12:10 to give it a couple of extra minutes and it's still not there. Now I have to wait until Tuesday to talk to someone because of the holiday and I was hoping to have that money to use for the holiday. These people are full of crap!
ok well we did are taxes thee this year and are refund was 7, 000 and some and when we got are refund it was 6, 000 and some so we thought that it might of been from the taking a over payment from the Christmas loan so we called and they said ok yes we will put it on there with in 5 to something business days well we waited and nothing so then we call back and they say no there was not a mistake... So then we go out of town and stay at a hotel and a couple weeks later we are being charged for the rooms again with put us - in the whole so how can they do this if there was no money on the card in the first place we used it all prier to us going out of town so we call and the person on the phone says they let it go through so that we were not embarrassed how does that work and they are so rude so rude, now back to not getting are full refund what do we do about that money that is a lot of money just to let go, so if I am correct that they take all the money you owe before they give you anything so why would there be missing money if anyone has and info please let me know I really could use that money...
I too have had it with HR BLOCk. I have an emerald card which I have used many times. Suddenly, my card is blocked at 8:00pm on Aug 20th 2010. I call customer service to find out why and a recording states they are closed. and hours are mon to friday 8am to 8pm. I tried to check the balance online and a message pops up that I have exceeded my pin attempts Funny, I used the card at 7:30pm with no problem and tried again at 8:00pm and the card was declined. Tomorrow is my daughters 11th birthday and all my funds are on this card. It is absurd that a company can freeze your card after hours with no way of contacting them. Oh, did I fail to mention we are connecticut residents on vacation in FLA. and now have no way to pay the horel bill? I have to have my brother wire me money for the bill and a gift and probably gas money to drive home. These people should be sued and put out of business. I WILL NOT LET THIS GO! contact me at stantonrichard2@yahoo.com if you are interested in joining a c lass action suit against them.
I got my Emerald card 3 yrs ago. I use it for my Direct Deposit and I have NEVER had ANY PROBLEMS! It's convienent...ppl don't take the time out to READ the paperwork that comes with it. It's been the easiest way to get my payroll and I USE IT EVERYWHERE! Jan L
i lost my old emerald card a while back right, called in and them fools said oh certainly sir a card will be right out to you, this was jan 3rd 2009. no lie i didnt recieve that mother for a month. constantly it either got lost in the mail, someone didnt take care of their end, somehow it was my fault, i had 600 bucks on the mother, and guess what the balance was when i got it...87 dollars. you can bet i spent the next 2 hours arguing with some mother ###er on the phone about the lack of said 600 dollars and i made them give me my money back, which they did...in ###ING INSTALLMENTS! ### suckers. its a good thing my credit sucks so bad i cant get a bank anywhere else otherwise id walk into the nearest hnr block tax office and insert this dumb ### card into someones rectal cavity.
I have used HR Block for MANY years to do my taxes. Now that they have the Emerald Card, I've been getting my refund put on there. It is ok if you get your taxes on it, use the money and are done with the card. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT USING IT FOR PAYROLL DIRECT DEPOSITS OR ANYTHING ELSE. They don't mail statements. I've tried to be able to view them online and can't. I've had money transferred to the card on the two dif. occasions where the first time they "rejected" the funds and this time my money was stupposed to be on it yesterday and STILL isn't. The customer service is HORRIBLE. You get foreignors who don't comprehend anything you say, don't resolve your question and then you get charged $2 FOR EVERY PHONE CALL YOU MAKE TO THEM. Even if THEY srew something up which makes you call them, they still charge you! I call there and they NEVER know what they are talking about, they always give me wrong information, I've had dif. reps all tell me something dif. on the same day, I've asked for a supervisor and been hung up on. After MANY years of giving them my service and paying a ton of money in filing fees, I'm going elsewhere next year because I am tired of their poor customer service which could care less about resolving issues.
I am a seasonal employee of H&R Block. My position is Client Service Coordinator, which is essentially a receptionist position. I have a friend that does taxes for them, and she told me about it. I needed a part-time job, so I applied and got hired. I worked from January 15 until February 21, because they don't tell you that after the big "crush" of W-2's coming in, they don't need a receptionist anymore. I don't get my taxes done by these people, and they charge a fortune. $89 for one W-2 that you can do yourself, is a big ripoff. I don't like the was they try to "push" the clients into more services so they can make a larger commission. I won't work for them again.
I have been a customer for 10 years +. or the first time I did the advance loan. Yea, well, NEVER AGAIN!
I was told I had to make my payment of $40.00 because the IRS hadn't deposited the funds by the payment due date. I went ahead and made my payment, I was told I would be given the money back- because the payment coming out of my actual return was greater than the balance I owed. This was late Jan. So, I gave it a little time, waiting... I have never in my life spoke to such ignorant customer service agents. No a single person could give me an answer on when my $40.00 would be credited to my card. I was told call back in 2 days. Ok(charged $2.00 for every call that requires me to speak to an agent) I called back on the 2nd day- It would be credited within 2-3 business days. This was the spiel I got everytime I called. When in frustration I demanded to speak with a supervisor- I was put on hold for 83 MINUTES! Still, my answer was 2-3 business days. Here it is March 17- still no $40.00, did I mention now the account is negative because everytime I called- yes, they charged me the $2.00. I do believe this has left a sour taste for HR BLOCK- I will no longer be using them- nor will I make referrals as I have in the past.
i have been using hr block for 10 years in2006 my husbend took out a loan for 577 and the took 1800 to pay back the loan we did not know this we had a large tax retern that year in 2008 i took out a loan for 600 i payed my loan and they made me pay the 577again thats when i found out they took in2006way more money not only did i pay it 2 times they will not give me my money back they owe me 1800 dollars and my card sites at a- 350balace there saying i owe them more money they stell money from people im not giving up i will fight
i so agree with every1 on here. the emerald card is a load of crap. she (being the tax pro) said we get our money on the card within 2 days. so of course when that time expired i went into the office to find out why it wasnt there. "O" she says, a diff tax pro...she must of failed to mention since my hubby is active duty military we cant get the RAL( the loan) because of the intrest rate. the irs put out a thing saying it was wrongful to charge such obsene intrest rate...if it is so obsene why are other ppl suffering the wrong doing? hmmm! then finally we get our money and i admit i misplaced my card so i called to report it and the operator was an ###! i asked him which would be cheaper transferring funds to my personal account and call it a day or to replace the card. needless to say i never got my answer. but i did get the transfer of funds paper work...but since i dont have my balance how am i suppose to fill the paper out correctly. so i call back and they refuse to give me the balance because im the primary account holder. WHAT THE FRENCH! did i not sign along with my husband on a JOINT return...but that doesnt mean nothing! STAY AWAY from this! i wish i found this blog 2 weeks ago!
I filed my taxes jan 23rd 8-15 days to trach my emereald card its now the 11th of feb. no money yet..But when I hit into the irs link give all my info it tells me they have no info on it yet ...whats that bull ### ...it should have all ready been processed whats going on any help please...thank you
mistake
H and R Block made a income tax mistake on my 2006 taxes and now I owe over 4, 000 dollars in back taxes! The mistake was made when the preparer didn't look at all the income paperwork that we had turned in to them. H and R Block dragged there feet and finally agreed to pay the penalty and refund the tax prep for that year. But we are now left with the back taxes. We do NOT have 4, 000 dollars sitting in our cookie jar so we will have to make payments to the IRS along with interest for H and R Blocks mistake! There reply was "make sure you check your return over before you sign it" I think this stinks and want to let potential consumers know that H and R Blocks advertising statement "Satisfaction Guaranteed" is just advertising fluff!
We will not be having are taxes done by these "professionals" EVER AGAIN!

H & R block made 2 math errors on my 2001 and 2003 tax returns to the total of $5000 and now are telling me that they can't help me! I owe the IRS this money and have to ammend both tax returns. If anyone knows if I can sue let me know rushfamily2405@comcast.net
i did the mistake of doing the advance with h+r block and it completely ruined my refund. according to them you would only be approved for the refund if ur tax return was a large sum, if it wasnt then you wouldnt be approved for a line of credit. so when i went they told me my refund would be about 2, 045 for 2008. and that i was approved for 500. so in my mind i thought when it came time to do my taxes i would be able to pay it back and still have enough left over to catch up on some bills. needless to say when it came tax time the person who did my loan messed up with the figures and i was only getting back 692.00 in that case i wouldnt have been approved for the line of 500.00 if my refund was that small. so they ended up taking 527.00 for the loan which was supposed to be 500.00 and then took out another fee of 78.00 and then having to pay the state 164.00 so i ended up walking away with 57.00 at the end of it all. i have used h+r block for years and never had a problem with them until now, and ever since this experience i wont be returning to them.
very costly miscalculation on 2006 tax return
We used the services of H&R Block, Wentzville (falling under the St Charles, MO office) for our 2006 tax return. We purchased their Peace of Mind guarantee at the time. We were audited by the IRS for the tax return and it was revealed that H&R Block made substantial errors in the return totaling over $13, 840 which we were informed we now owed. When we filed in 2006 H&R we originally refunded by federal and state (California) authorizes over $6, 300. So we now had to return not only the $6, 300+ we had been refunded but also an additional $7, 000+. We needed to pay the IRS $9, 712 - and we are told to expect, due to the errors, that the states of CA and MO will claim from us another additional $1, 900 when they are finished assessing the new filing. H&R Block admitted the very significant mistake (and in actual fact, in the process of determining the new, correct amount owed, discovered another basic but substantial error in their calculations and methods - while this resulted in less owed, it still underlines the fact that they made two very large errors). H&R Block honored the Peace of Mind guarantee by paying us (June 12, 2008) a check for $7, 330.47. This included their standard guarantee for penalty and interest ($2, 300, 47) plus the maximum allowed under the guarantee of $5, 000. In short, we still needed to pay $9, 712. H&R Block legal department has written to us (Regina Akers, Senior Paralegal) to inform us that they will not consider additional payments above and beyond what their Peace of Mind guarantee promises. Leter dated July 18, 2008. We believe this is unacceptable. Never in our wildest imagination, and I gather from discussions I have had with H&R Block representatives, that such substantials errors should ever be made by a professional tax preparer.
Your Desired Resolution:
We want to appeal H&R Block to make an exception to their Peace of Mind guarantee rule and pay for the difference of $9, 712 that we are now out of pocket. All discussions with regional management has met with only referral to the legal department who have answered as stated above. In addition we want them to pay for the money will need to pay back to the states of CA and MO in due course (approx. $1, 900)

I agree. In your complaint, at the end, you mentioned that you didn't expect this from "tax professionals". I needed to say that H&R Block are not tax professionals. They are merely just housewives, or those alike, that use that job as part time employment and just do the taxes off software, much like Turbo Tax or something thereof. Most of them only know certain information because they've done it for years, but still, they do not have a degree in accounting or anything like that, sad to say. (I'm using Turbo Tax from this day forward)
never again
This is my story. I had my tax refund direct deposited onto my Emerald card. I got the rapid refund loan. This disqualified me from getting my stimulus direct deposited. The last 2 digits of my SSN are 98. This means I am one of the last to receive a paper check in the mail.
I called H&R Block customer service (which is a joke by the way) and asked them this: "Since I don't have another bank and I have my payroll directly deposited onto this card, where can I cash my check when I receive it in the mail?" They had NO CLUE, and they didn't care.
I send them questions about other things in emails and every single! time, they send me the same generic response. Please CALL our customer service. So I asked them this: "What the he! Good is using the emails when this is your same response EVERY time?" They had NO CLUE. Also, they charge you $2.50 to call customer service.
The people that answer the phones there have to look up the answer every time for even the simple questions. They are underpaid so I am assuming, not educated. The reason I know this is because one of them actually told me she got her electric shut off!
Adding salt to my wounds was being declined at Wal-Mart to cash the check because when they ran it through their telechek machine, it was coming up system error. The guy at Wal-Mart said it can't be a telechek error, because I always get a receipt with a fail reason code and a phone number for people to call. There was nothing. Over and over again. They couldn't figure it out and they said there was no way to override. Well, considering I signed the f-ing thing in front of them, as is their rule, I said well, now what do I do? They didn't have a clue. I said I will call telechek and maybe I had a mark on there from a long time ago. Turns out, I did. From May of 2003. I said that is over 5 years old. They said it stays on there for 7 years. I said what can I do to take care of it? She said I can pay telechek over the phone with a credit or debit card. I did not know that telechek is now a DEBT COLLECTOR too! This was a matter of $51 and a service charge of $25 of course. Well, go figure, since I had a check for $900, I spent my last 89.99 online for a software upgrade before I knew I would be declined by Wal-Mart.
Here's my opinion about telechek. Isn't that service there to warn companies about bad checks? Obviously, the US Treasury should not even be scanned by a check system. I know this because I asked telechek, "How can telechek have anything to say about this?" They said take it to a place that does not use telechek. This response, in combination with a lack of an error code, leads me to believe I am right. I will be complaining about them too.
On top of the wonderful day I was having, I finally went home (disappointed and ashamed) and got locked out of my place! When I took 1 of my 3 dogs outside, one of the other dogs jumped up and hit the deadbolt! I had to crawl through a window. I work full time and try to pay ALL of my bills. Why do I feel like such a loser right now? I even went to college and now I have GINORMOUS DEBT!
Well, I'm done complaining for now. I will NOT be filing my taxes at H&R Block EVER EVER EVER again. I have been using them for 15 years.
Wish me luck, for tomorrow I will try my luck at cashing Uncle Sam's piece of paper once again!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Wal-Mart does not cash checks for people that have passed bad checks there before. How is that Block's fault? How is Block supposed to deal with the fact that you don't have a bank to cash your checks like regular people do? And all Americans who did not have their refund deposited into their own bank account got a paper check. Block did not make up that rule, the government did. You can not go back to Block, but exactly the same thing would have happened to you at Jackson Hewitt, Liberty Tax, or any other tax office in the country.
rip off
H&R emerald card # when called to inquire about economic relief refund stated that the IRS would be sending a check. 6 weeks later I called the IRS and was told the money had been deposited in my bank account (H&R Emerald card). I called H&R Block # again and recording still stated refund was coming from the IRS in the form of a check. I was finally able to get a hold of an H&R Block rep in a 3rd world country and was told they were not aware of the recording? Come on! They have used my money for over 6 weeks because of their fraudulent message.

I went to H and R block to do my taxes, never been there before I had a very simple tax preparation it took all of 15 to 20minutes and they charged me $300.15 and my refund was only going to come to a little over $300.00 what a rip off ...do not go to H and R block
economic relief check scam
I received my tax refund via a direct deposit to an H&R Block Emerald Card as I was told I would receive my refund much faster. I was told I would receive an e-mail once my card was activated and the money was in the account. I never received the e-mail and only after numerous checks on the 866 H&R Block number did I finally receive my money. I promptly went to my bank and withdrew the funds and cut up my card. Now the fun begins... The economic relief funds... I received the usual notice from the IRS as to the date I would receive my $1, 200.00 Economic Stimulus check. It did not arrive so I called the H&R Block number and was told via their 866 number that the IRS would be sending a check and gave the website for the IRS to check on a delivery date. I did so and waited till the estimated delivery date and still no check. I called the IRS and after an hour waiting, I was informed that the money had been direct deposited to the account that my income tax was funded to i.e. my Emerald Card account! I called once again to the H&R Block Emerald card co and when prompted to inquire about the E.R check, listen again as it stated that the IRS would be mailing a check! The thieves have been using my money all this time and when I finally was able to get in touch with a supervisor in a 3rd world country, he stated that he was unaware of any such recording. I gave him the number off the paperwork I had for the Emerald Card and he listened. He apologized and said there was nothing he could do about it. I stated that I needed a new card so I could access my funds and was told it would take another 10 days! This is consumer fraud at it's worst! If you have been ripped off like this please e-mail me at [protected]@cox.net.

The Emerald card lately has been a nightmare. I have used it for over 7 years and get direct deposit with it. I had a $720 unauthorized deposit from Sprint recently. I don’t even have them as a carrier. I called the Emerald card customer service. I was stressed telling her my situation and the lady kept laughing. I thought that was kinda strange, but continued with my claim. The lady reassured me they reversed the charge and it would be back on my card by 2/26/2020. The transaction was still pending. I called on the 26th the customer service agent was very rude and said my transaction already went to Sprint, then she transferred me. She said I had to file a claim. The second agent was very rude and said she was transferring me, she gave me no reason for the second transfer. Then she hung up on me. I called back and this agent was very rude and told be Sprint is returning my money and now they have till March 26 we’ll over a month before I can file a claim. They acted like I was a total inconvenience, well I don’t have the luxury of giving away $720. This made my car payment bounce. I still haven’t seen my money, I don’t feel like the Emerald card is safe for direct deposit anymore. They become very slow and even with an account for over 7 years my card is starting to show up as a pre paid card. Uhaul would’ve take it when I was moving. It’s gotten to be a horrible nightmare. I can’t wait to be done with this stupid card and their rude customer service. I work in customer service for a cell phone company this wouldn’t fly there.
Has anyone had any luck with this problem? Hnr emerald don't know where they placed your money ? Ideally think we need lawyers !
This year was my first time using H & R block to file my tax return. I usually file electronically. The people seem nice and knew what they were doing. In order to get my tax return quicker, i got an emerald card from them. I was told that i would get my refund on mu card the same day they give my information to the IRS. It's been two days and haven't received anything. Not a text or email. Even called the 1-1800 number and they said the same thing. Why would you say my money would be directly deposited in twenty-four hours and it's going to take longer than that? My thing is when someone says that they are going to do something they should do it and not get people's hopes up! I am never having H & R block do my tax returns ever again. It's bad enough i had to pay an arm and a leg for them to do it! You don't ever play with people's money like that. Just ridiculous
Until this year I have not had any problems with HR BLOCK emerald cards. But twice I had fraudulent charges on the card and the fraud department denied my case without doing any work to show for it. I was asked me to give a statement and I did that. But every time I call them about the case the customer service
people don't have any notes on my prior calls. They don't know what information was looked at to deny my case. They won't even confirm if they received the initial statement sent. I have even submitted video footage proving I was not in the locations where the transactions happened at the time they say it happened. But all I'm told it "they have the option" to reopen the case. No one seems to know where the fraud department is located or what the phone number is. And the corporate office is no help because they just refer you back to the number on the back of the card. No one knows what a "full" I investigation entails or what information was gathered. I've spoke to the people at both locations and no one has spoken with HR BLOCK. Not a single person. So how do you complete a fraud investigation without calling the people? And when I asked to be contacted if they needed more information or if there was something I could do to help them, no one does. These people in the fraud department don't care about us. If they think they are going to be rid of me, I got a whole another new thought for them. I've contacted the US Attorney's office. I suggest you do the same.
Last year used H&R Block with emerald card refund. Never got card, emails, money or answers. Still trying to figure out what happened. This year I used Turbo tax with their Netspend card, got refund within 2 weeks. Quickly took the #$ out just in case. I will never use H&R Block or the theives at emerald card again.
I filed on feb 20 and received a ddd of March 5 on the wmr site. I was just wandering if it will be deposited on my emerald card on March 5 or if there will be additional days added for processing through h&r block or bank fees. Any info will help. Thank you!
I had filed my taxes and got my refund on the Emerald card...they pushed this option stating it was faster and less expensive. All went well (although I filed in Jan. and they said the government has a delay till late Feb before they could actually file it) I got my funds and have been using the card a usual till on April 25th I received an email from Amazon.com stating that they noticed someone had tried to open a new account with MY card number! They canceled that account thankfully but that prompted me to check my online balance/activity...Sure enough there were many fraudulent charges on my account. I called the 800# on the back of my card to report the activity and cancel that card...since then I have had to call EVERY day to speak to several people with such thick Indian accents I can barely understand...they could not stop any pending transactions? Instead they have to wait for them to no longer be pending before I can file an affidavit...this has been very time consuming and has cost me money to get each affidavit notarized and faxed and sent in the mail with a 10 day span to file or I can no longer file it as fraud? No one could tell me when or if I will get my several hundred dollars back. They took my number for the fraud department to contact me and I have yet to hear from them...I WILL NEVER file with the Emerald card again!
I had my taxes done and waited for my refund which was deposited 2 weeks later on a Wednesday morning. I begin to use my Emerald Card to purchase some things I needed, and everything went smooth until 2 days later. It was Friday and I was at a store making yet another purchase. The cashier tells me my card has been declined and I ask for him to try again. He runs my card and declined for the 2nd time. I call customer service and a woman with a thick filipina accent finally answers. I try my best to make out what she is saying despite how annoyed I am at the store counter. She was of no help whatsoever, and could only tell me a rep would call me back within 24-48 hours. I have yet to receive that phone call. Apparently, I also "escalated the issue" so I was promptly transferred to what is supposed to be a supervisor. Another woman with a heavy southern accent comes on the line to yell at me and say she can't hear me! Well yes ma'am of course I am on my cell phone because I am out trying to make a purchase and that's how I end up calling you guys duhhh. I go outside the door so I can speak "louder" and confirm my address, birth date and social security number for the whole world and their mother to hear my info. This manager cuts me off to say my card has been put on hold and a letter was automatically prompted to be sent out to my home address. Mind you this was 4pm on a Thursday and too late for a mail carrier to process. This so called letter woupd be sent out the next day Friday at the earliest and I shall receive said letter middle of the week. This manager had no info as to what the letter states and I have absolutely no answers as to where my funds are. Tonight I tried to log in online to look at my statement and the system is conveniently unable to find me based on my personal and card info. I am a very angry customer and if I do not get answers very soon then I guess we will have to start a class action lawsuit. Whether my refund was a million dollars or even if it was a penny, it does not matter. You just don't mess with people's money!
Same thind with me
Any luck?
Wow, after reading this, mine isn't so serious, but still, theft is theft. I got my Federal Income tax with no problems. But, with my state income tax refund, I received the email saying that the money was deposited. So I thought I would go to Best Buy and use the money for a well needed computer upgrade. I get the parts and go to the checkout. When I tried to buy the item, my card was declined! I could not figure it out. So the employee then tries to do half on the card, half off, only to find that I only had 1/4 of what was supposed to be on the card! I told him to just refund the money to the card, and he does. When I get home I find the money was placed into "pending transaction". So I thought, maybe it will go through in 24 hours. It didn't. 3 days later, its still in "pending". I emailed H&R Block about this, and they told me they needed a "letter with the merchant's letterhead, date of transaction, card number, and signed by merchant" . I went to Best Buy and they told me 24 hours again. This time I refused to accept that answer, and the manager I spoke to then said it takes a week. Unfortunately, I am not that stupid. I stood there while she called her coorporate mgr, who spoke to H&R block directly. They said they would try to have my money by the end of the day. Its been 4 days, and I still do not have it. The person who was supposed to call back never did.
unreliable preparers
I am so very disappointed with H & R this tax year as well as last year. The representatives are horrible. They smile in your face and as soon as you challenge them on their mistakes, you are suddenly the enemy. They have been giving me the runaround regarding the status of my taxes and I am at a lost as to what to do next. They have cause me a huge amount of stress and I will NEVER use their overpriced services again.
My complaint is legitimate and I am too frustrated to share the details of their mistake because it is far from professional and completely irresponsible.
Bob your complaint is the one I hear the most. While H&R Block's pricing is very competitive
with Jackson Hewitt and Liberty Tax Service, H&R Block can not and probably never will be able to compete on price with mom&pop shops and some local accountants. Each area of the county is different but in my local area (not a large city) CPA firms charge $350 per hour not $100. You mentioned depreciation and rental housing and said you spent nearly 2 hours.
That sounds about right. H&R Block has no way of importing data from your accountant, so
everything has to be entered again. That takes time. Unfortunately, most people expect every
preparer to be an expert. I wish that was true but in reality H&R Block hires and fires just like everyone else. Demand a Senior Tax Advisor 5 or better yet an Enrolled Agent, whenever you have something beyond a basic return.
In the past H&R Block did not give price quotes. This year they have price ranges, but frankly the ranges are so broad I believe they are of little value to most clients. In your case, I would have told you I will input the information, show you the results, answer your questions, and then if you are not happy with the price, you are under no obligation to pay. I can't be more fair than that.
Frankly, if you believed you preparer was incompetent you should have collected your documents and walked. The last thing you should do is sign and pay.
Regarding Peace of Mind: In my experience, the clients that need it the most are the ones least likely to buy it. Peace of Mind covers the errors I make and the errors the computer makes, provided you make a timely claim. I can't tell you the number of times people have come in with a letter from IRS that they have sat on for 6 to 9 months. At that point, if the IRS's position is legit there is nothing I can do except advise you to pay what is due.
LOL, I love your last paragraph where you say it is a rip off but indicate you might come to work for H&R Block. Priceless!
In all seriousness, you should sign up for the tax course, every taxpayer should.
i have always used h&r block, other than the high cost i never had a problem. i became un able to work and filed for my dissability the year before. i told my friend he could claim as a dependent. i took all the paper work to h&r block gave it to the worker explained that my friend was claiming me as a dependant. to make a long story short.when i went to the clinic they denied me my health care and meds because the h&r block put me down as a spouse instead of dependant like i told him. this if not corrected will hurt me on my dissabilityalso. oh yes, i also had to correct him on his work when he said he was getting about 300.00. isaid you need to figure that again he said oh i made a mistake your refund is 2756.00. that should have been my first clue
H & R Block charged me $554.00 to do taxes that took my previous accountant (now moved out of State) 1 hour to do, out the door. I am a very good bookeeper and am informed before going to the preparer, but like to have other's coomplete my taxes because they supposedly "know the tax program".
My previous accountant / tax preparer charged $100 / hour. Asking H & R block up front of what cost should be they can not give you an answer other than "after we put everything in then we will know". Of Course, at the end of session you can choose not to have prepared document submitted. What a crock! My wife and I spent nearly 2 hours with the preparer that had to make numerous phone calls to another office because she could not figure how depreciation and rental housing went into their system. This from a 5 year H & R Block Vetran! After, spending 2 hours with this office in Midland, Michigan, wasting time with incompetance and coached the preparer along in their own program to complete. I was ready to leave. Questioning the fee of $542.00 I was shocked. I tried negotiating with office manager and was advised to contact the District Manager about the unfairness of the charge. All I got was lip service. Figuring we already put too much time into the 2008 returns we paid and got out. After settling a bit, I called corporate business office in Kansas made a formal complaint with no response back. Of course I called to check status 3 or 4 times and get "I will upgrade your complaint status to priority, you should here back from somebody in a couple of days". It would have been satisfied with paying up to $250.00 - but, not happy.
The peace of mind I agree that is a scam. That only does cover their mistakes in calculations. Not entry errors or your errors.
I will never use this rip off service again. A matter of fact I might even apply for a job at H & R Block. Side note! My family owns a dairy farm and has very complicated taxes. They go to a privatley owned H & R Block and were charged $380.00. Wow... most Lawyers charge $200 / hour is this place really that good?
You know, I am have been using H and R for ten years, I had a baby last year and so I didnt file but I convinced my fiancee to go to them, we moved to a new town recently and used the local H and R block location Carthage, Missouri. I've never in my life have had to deal with service this bad, not just as far as H and R is concerned but businesses as a whole. First of all, we brought in last years return to get our childrens social security numbers off of, they entered our daughters in incorrectly, seriously delaying the return, then when we finally got notification from the IRS that the return would be here on the 17th, the IRS sent us a notice apologizing for the delay and told us two key tax credits were missed by the preparer, that increased our refund by over 1200 dollars. We complained to the office about the social security number error and they blamed us, even though the preparer read it directly from last years return. Everything that happened was our fault, according to our tax professional ( and I use the word preofessional as loosely as possible). So we didn't even bother contact them about missing the tax credits, because we knew that would somehow be our fault as well.
Above all this, they were not even friendly at the store, I would compare the atmosphere and their attitudes to that of a fast food chain with unhappy teenagers that are annoyed with you for coming to their restaurant and making them work. I will never use H and R block again, even though I recieved good service from their other stores, if they allow one store to get away with that type of behavior and have people working with customers taxes that do not know what they are doing, they are not the kind of company I am going to give my business to.

the amount you received for your stimulus payment has to be inputed on your tax return no matter who does it. they might have been misinformed but even if they but the amount in the software they use would not have made a deductions. everyone is freaking out cause they have to put how much they got on this years return and the only reason is so that if you didn't get the full amount or your status changed last year you would qualify for more. i am sorry they were wrong but it wouldn't have affected your return.
I am so disgusted. I have had my taxes prepared through H&R Block for 12 years. I went to an office in Clewiston, Florida. The first words out of their mouths were that everybody had to pay back the stimulus check they received last year. I knew this was ridiculous. So I checked around with other H&R Blocks. They told me Clewiston, Florida's H&R Block was misunderstood. They would inform them that they were not supposed to deduct the stimulus check. I waited 2 weeks before returning to file taxes and asked if they were still deducting the stimulus checks. They said yes. I said your not supposed to because I checked around. They laughed at me. I am happy to say that I went to Jackson Hewitt and they gave us an extra $600.00 stimulus check.
i'm sorry that they had such an bad experience with the tax professional i just think they went to the wrong block office because block have some very qualify preparers i should know because i am one of those preparers and i been working for them for 16 years. i have always advise my clients to look for preparers with experience to do their taxes.
w4 papers
To Whom this concerns,
Im very upset because i went on the 14th of april to do my taxes and i asked the lady in the front how much it was going to be, she told me about a $100 so i was alright about that and proceeded to get my taxes done and I get a phone call telling me my taxes were ready to come in and fill out and sign papers so i do and I have at this point $120 on me and I go to pay and they tell me $200 and something i about fell to the floor why i said well they proceed to tell me taxes are on a per page dollar amt! I was never told about that at all so i told them to give my paperwrk and they give me only my birth certificates and soc cards and thats it! I then called to get my tax w4 from them and I know that the office is closed but my call was transfered to the hr bloc on the 101 and indian school I think spoke with a girl Shannon and she told me she was going to look for them and she said the person she needed to speak to someone who was on vacation-waited 2 weeks called her again and will not return any of my calls- so i get the mgrs name- John Walsh and he was so RUDE said they have no time to speak or look for them and hung the phone up on me, I was very nice to him but a little frustrated because he made it like i was not important at all.. LOOK I NEED these so i can file my taxes they have to be somewhere please contact me regarding this matter i am at this point being penalized for not having my taxes done. I AM LOOKING FOR 4 INDIVIDUAL W4 PAPERS- IVE NEVER BEEN TREATED SO MEAN BY HR BLOCK THEY WERE NASTY TOLD ME THEY HAD NO TIME TO FIND ANYTHING FOR ME IT WAS BASICALLY MY PROBLEM...PLEASE SOMEONE CONTACT ME IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!
poor customer service/card problems
Have direct deposit. First card has unauthorized purchases, New card invalid because transactions were not approved. Customer service not helpful, toll free service closed on weekends, not 24 hrs customer service, don't answer e-mails immediately, can't access online banking, can't use emerald card to withdraw money, purchase anything, incorrect PIN, etc...etc
It's almost 3 weeks and nothing, leaves me penniless, wondering if I can go to work tomorrow, no money even just to pay my bus fare! It ought to be called H&R Blood Bank because it drains you out of blood with the way they operate.
do not use if military! no rebate for us!
My husband was deployed last year so for us to qualify for the stimulus rebate the non taxable combat pay must be on the 1040. Well HR block didn't do that. So when we thought we'd get come extra money...we didn't. Non-taxable combat counts towards income for the rebate. So after sitting on hold for hours with the IRS, I found out I needed it amended the 1040X. Then we could get the rebate as a credit next year!
So I go to HR Block to get it done. This hag tells me it won't do any good. She calls the IRS herself, which has a min. of 1 hour hold time. She has me hold the phone waiting for someone to pick up. She filled out the form then took the phone from me and hung it up! I sat there for 15 mins holding her phone for her for nothing. Now I have to wait a year because HR Block didn't put a number on my return!
I've heard from others including an IRS employee that we should still get the rebate. Why the *** can't people just do their job and actually know what the *** is going on. When you pay for a service you expect to get what you pay for.
Do not use HR Block. These people have no idea what they are doing!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
So, you include not taxable combat pay, making it taxable, pay the tax, to get the refund? If you wait til O8 you get the rebate, with out having to pay any extra tax.
Was the non taxable combat pay your only source of income? You qualify for the rebate if you have at least $3000 of income, but you don't get any more regardless of your income. As a matter of fact, if your income is too high, your rebate actually gets reduced. If you had $3000 of other source income (did you have a job?) then you will get a stimulus rebate regardless of your combat income being left off the return. Maybe it just hasn't been processed yet. Many of the rebates will go out in June and July. If you didn't have any other income, it perplexes me as to why you were filing a tax return.
messed up our taxes
H&R Block really messed up our taxes this year...3 times in a row to be exact and now my husband and I are uncertain if we will receive our refund or our stimulus checks. We started out on H&R blocks tax website and submitted our taxes. We printed out our copy which said "married filing jointly" but somehow the information sent to the IRS said "married filing separately". We had a printed copy stating we were due a refund yet the IRS had a copy stating my husband owed money because the of the mysterious "filing separately". Nobody cared that we had proof in the form of our printed copies. We contacted the IRS and they told us what we needed to do and the amendment that we needed to file. We called H&R block who "fixed" our taxes for free and argued with us that they could get us our money on time without filing the amendment. I argued that I wanted to do what the IRS had told me but the manager refused to listen claiming she knew what was best when it came to matters of taxes. Sure enough the IRS kicked out H&R's "fix". So they called us in yet again, printed out the same paperwork that had been rejected and told us it had to be mailed in...they still refused to complete the amendment that I demanded, and they smiled pushed us out the door and said "Let us know how everything works out and don't forget to make an appointment for next year".
How's it working out?! The IRS claims that they now have 3 claims for our taxes(all filed by H&R Block), it will take 90 days to delete one claim out and another 90 to delete the second claim out and then finally another 90 days to process the actual claim because they now have to audit my husband and I for suspicious tax behavior. My husband got laid off this year, I started nursing school...my father has loaned us some money but we aren't doing so well and could really use our hard earned taxes from last year but unless the IRS can speed up the process we won't get our taxes back until January of 2009! Now we've discovered there is a hold on our stimulus/incentive check. Thanks H&R Block you have totally ruined our year, I now face having to drop out of college until next year because my scholarship doesn't cover full tuition, and you have caused me more stress and dismay than I can ever convey to you! I will never use H&R again and I would recommend to anyone out there reading my post PLEASE PROTECT YOURSELF...DON"T USE H&R TAX SERVICE PERIOD, in store and online software=very risky, very bad idea. you might get good service and results for a few years, like my husband and I, but it's like playing a game of Russian roulette.
You had luck my friend, and the main reason I went back to them was to get it fixed. They really did not give a crap my buddy, all they wanted was to charge me again to get them fixed. I was in the Army when this happened, and my W-2's were really simple to read. There was no compliceted income involved. I saw her face when she was confused and asking the other tax preparers about my wifes unemployment benefit (they were really confused about the Puerto Rico Unemployment Income) it looked like an Alien 1099-G to them, but I ignored it because, apparently they are the best. Now all they say to me is that this happened because I did not pay for there peace of mind thing, I was already paying alot of money at the time just to get them prepared. I wonder if the lady did this on purpose because I did not pay for her piece of mind thing. Im really happy though that the IRS is helping me resolve this issue right now by removing the wrong numbers that H&R Block put in. The only thing that H&R Block did right was sending the copies of my W-2's. I personnaly think that they gave me the wrong preparer, at the time I met the preparer, she smelled like straight up nicotine and that probably was a sign that I should have just waked away from them. The truth is that they really don't know anything, just the basics. I just found out my friend started working for them as a tax preparer, and OMG, his stories of working there are something else, so from an H&R Block employee and me, watch yourself because if you dont buy the piece of mind, it can hunt you back.
I have also benn a victim of H&R block by messing up my taxes. I went back to them after recieving an IRS letter. they made copies of the letter and told me to wait a couple of days so they report the error. After the days passed, I recieved a letter from H&R saying, Sorry for the inconvinience, and endorsed a check with the amount i paid, back to me. The problem here is that if they did not know how to do my taxes, they should have not touched them. Now I owe a bunch of money to the IRS for a stupid mistake they did. My wife was recieving unemployment from Puerto Rico and they put in some crazy numbers as taxes paid. The IRS told me that, the unemployment amount did not go in the taxes, so I got screwed by H&R block. I know for sure this wont happen again, beause I have learned my lesson by trusting a so called professional tax preparer. All the years I had filed had been through e-file bacause I was broke ans never had a problem, and the year I had some $$$, I went to H&R and got robbed. From now on i will stick to the way I was doing them (online).
I have also had major problems with H&R Block, I took my taxes to them after they had already been messed up by Liberty. I told H&R that I would need someone who really knew what they were doing and the sat me down with a should be McDonalds employee that obviously was clueless and the assured me she had it handled, which she did not! 3 mo. later the IRS sent my return back to me incomplete! I am now going to loose everything because of H&R Block and they don't care a bit! All they can tell me is " well just come back in and we will try to get it right this time."
I don't want to tell our married joint file story about H&R Block here in w Rancier Ave. Killeen Texas anymore. SO much dissapointments and frustration they caused us.
"You've got people"? Oh please...I will never ever do our tax with H&R block ever again. Fix your software problem first and file our state tax return before collecting the service fee coz your service SUCKSSSSS and the cost ain't worth it.
paying more for bad service
I went to H & R Block to have my taxes done, and paid the $200. to have my money paid to me the next day. When my taxes where turned in there were several mistakes which I was called to correct. Then apparently they were not turned in or lost. I called several times and no one returned my calls, nobody could answer what happened to the money. Then finally I got through to someone in the main office and was told my taxes would be free.
In the end when I received my check it came with a coupon for 50% off my taxes next year at H & R Block. The $200. was not refunded.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I paid h and r block over 500.00 dollars for my taxes and still nothing. When I filed they said that I would receive my taxes is 20 days, but 2 months later nothing. I am so mad. When you try and call no one is there they left and when you contact IRS all they say is "working on it". I feel that I should not have to pay next year or receive my money back. Why did I pay 500.00 no one can answer my question. I only have one job and my husband is unemployed and just had twin girls. Nothing very hard, I will never use h and r block again.
10 years of service does not mean the preparer is an expert at anything.
Demonstrated experience is a great criteria but unfortunately most of us do not prepare all 50
states in a given year.
If you want the best H&R Block has to offer, then insist that an Enrolled Agent (EA) prepare your return. We don't have EAs in my area, so your next best bet is a Senior Tax Advisor V.
If you go to an H&R Block office and have a unique situation, call ahead and ask to have an appointment made with a tax pro that has at least 10 years of service with the company as well as demonstrated experience in the areas you are concerned about (multi-state income, for example). An HRB office is a mix of seasoned veterans and "newbs", all able to do different things. I can't say anything that makes better past, bad experiences, but neither can I indict all preparers that work for HRB as charlatans.
I have done my own taxes since I bought my first home in 1982. This year I worked in two different states, bought a home and had moving expenses so I thought it might be best to get a "professional" to do my taxes this year. Boy did I get screwed...the lady did not know what form to fill out for the second state and most of my refund went to them despite the fact I had so many deductions. I filed a complaint with BBB only to find out H&R Block are NOT members. Nor did they respond to the many request of the BBB Investigator.
Never again, it does not pay to do the right thing if H&R Block does your taxes! RUN FORREST, RUN
i'm pissed and confused
I went with H&R Block from the recommendation of a friend. Never again! This was my first and last year with them. I got the Emerald Card crap and I regret it. The fees that H&R Block charged were extremely high and I wish I would've stayed with my small town tax preparer. I paid the $300+ fee upfront and the money was available the next day. It was my daughter's birthday and I wanted it to be special for her so I paid the fee. Does this mean I will get a paper check or what? I'm confused.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
You stated you paid your fee upfront for a loan... that is completly untrue. When you apply for a loan, H&R Block fees are paid from the bank to them. They don't receive a fee for preparing your taxes until you are paid under the conditions you stated. They do taxes, and that is what you pay for. The "loan" you requested is done because customers demand them. They don't force you to take them, and most preparers would prefer you didn't ask for them because they require mounds of paperwork (for which the preparers are NOT paid a dime) just so you can get money quick. The only people who make extra money for the service (loan) are working at the bank. H&R Block does NOT approve the loan, or even have a say in the approval process. It is done by the bank. Most people who apply for the loan have little money, and many are desperate for quick cash. They will go anywhere they can to get it. There are only a few tax business that offer these loans and I wish nobody did. You demand it. You get it. You pay for it. One of the last parts of preparing the tax return is to ask if the customer is satisified with the job the professional did. If you are not, you are free to take your documents and leave and go somewhere else. Next time do them a favor and go somewhere else. Maybe you can ask you local CPA for a loan. Good luck.
If you get denied from HSBC bank then your money will still go on the card in 8-15 business days. I've heard that this this year has been the worst. They're not training their "tax professionals" and people are getting charged fees for instant money never being told they have to go through HSBC. And then they tell they're cutomers they're approved even if they dont know. They never get an update on their $$ status...So thats when they call into the call center which costs $2 per call...only to find out from the reps they're not approved...Thats supposed to be the banks job!
This same thing happened to my fiance. He also paid what you did and they said he would have his money within a day or two! That is crap he has been waiting 3 weeks now since he has filed and has not received a penny from it! Do you think he should get a lawyer and find out what can be done?
emerald card & tax stimulus rebate
Are you an hr block customer that got the emerald debit card this year? Well, guess what, so did many many others! Now your patiently waiting for your tax rebate to be direct deposited since your refund was, right? Wrong! Unless you paid your fees up front, you will get a paper check, and most people I know did not pay their fees up front because the fees were so outrageous! Would you have filed with them had you known this was going to happen? I know I sure wouldn’t have! I know for a fact this will hurt their business next year. I have thousands of complaints on other boards about this, so I really expect hr block to make some serious offers at christmas this year to entice customers, because you know that they know they are screwed for next tax season. Most people that used them this year will hopefully do their taxes themselves through the irs. The main reason I am upset isn’t because I will be getting a paper check at the end of june (Argg!) , but the fact that if I didnt choose the emerald card when I went to hr block this year, I would have to pay an extra twenty dollars for a paper check! I know twenty bucks isn’t a lot, but it was the principal of the thing! I didn’t want to pay an extra twenty dollars for a piece of paper, so instead I opted for a little green plastic card that had soo many great benefits (Not!) that how could I go wrong by getting it? Now gas is 3.50 a gallon, and milk, bread, and eggs have gone sky high and I really need the free money (Yeah right!) the government has promised me. I would doing great this week because it would have came to me by direct deposit, if I hadn’t had hr block take their fee from my refund. Because of this, I am now penalized and have to wait till the end of june along with many other americans! Can I wait? Sure I can! But the point is, we were conned into this card, and now when we all so desperately could use the money, we have to wait even longer, after being told over and over through hr block customer service that yes, as long as our refund came direct deposit, then our tax rebate would too! What a lie!
I just sincerely hope that everyone that got shammed into this card and had this problem this year will remember next january and try to do them ourselves! If you are on the hr block emerald card hater bandwagon, please post! Thanks for the rant.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I AGREE WITH ALL STATEMENTS! GOOD BYE H&R BLOCK! YOU SAY NONE OF THIS IS YOUR FAULT, WELL THE ONLY FAULT I TAKE IS PAYING 377.00 FOR A TAX RETURN I HAD TO WAIT ON. MAYBE YOU AND OR YOUR BANK WILL GET THINGS STRAIGHT. I GUESS NOONE HAVING ANSWERS FOR YOUR PAYING CUSTOMERS WILL SURELY HURT BOTH YOUR POCKETS. I WAS HOW EVER OFFERED A 50.00 GIFT CARD OFF OF NEXT YEAR TAXES...LOL. WHAT A JOKE! 50.00? NO I THINK I WILL TRY TURBO TAX AS WELL. HOW HARD IS IT TO LOOK AT YOUR W2 AND TYPE.
i have been going to hr block for about 7 years, even though its expensive, i get my money pretty quick...not this year...i was told i was denied the same day advance, so i paid the extra 60 bucks for the 1 to 2 day advance...well after 5 days still no refund...so called them, now they said i was denied for the 2 to 3 day advance.after it said i was approved for it on their computers...also its free to call them for questions...but if you call them 3 times, on that 3rd call they charge you 2 dollars...thats why during my first two calls all they would say ...dont worry you were approved it will be on there...its all a scam...my brother is going to start doing it on turbo tax...it cost my brother 10 bucks, and he get his money in 7 to 10 days...hr block is a rip off...turbo tax is the way to go! if you make under 30 thousand it cost $10.60 with turbo tax...and they did his state all for a grand total 0f nothing, e-file was free...turbo tax will walk you through step by step...good bye hr block go rip someone else off, not me ever again...i hope you get sued again, i would love to be part off that class action lawsuit...
I get mt payroll check direct deposited every two weeks. then on this past tuesday which was the 28th of april i checked my balance and it was 31$ short! They had taken it appond themselves to take my money with out my concent! i never even applied for this theft thing and now i am extremly upset bout them stealing my money with out my permission! and they better refund my money back or i will be getting ahold of a laywer asap! i have my rights! i even had a rep. on the phone and all she could tell me was to go online and i will get myrefund back! but what i did not understand is i had this person on the phone and she would not even try to fix the problem. just wanted to waste more time and go online. which is not good enough. they need to fix this problem. I have three kids to feed and take care of! and will not be treated like this! it is not right for some company to take your money with out your consent! And i will be switching banks that is a for sure thing!
more like deception card
I had an anticipation loan put on my Emerald card...well, after a couple of days, I got my loan. then couple of days afterwards i got my income taxes on the card. I was told that my anticipation loan would come directly out of my taxes as soon as they hit the card for the loan that i owed them. Well, it didn't but, i sure am missing a whole lot of money. And i mean like grands. I thought for sure with the money missing that they took their fees and loan out. Well, a month or 2 went by and i started getting these bills in the mail that i owe HSBC Bank (which is the bank they pull the loans through) that i owe them 500 + dollars...well, when i confronted the H&R Block station where i had my taxes done, the "general manager" said, well, it must of been a glitch in the system. Well, i asked do i still have to pay the bank back because of their "worry free guarentee", she said well yea, it wasn't OUR fault, it was the computers. I am so upset by this. So, when the bank called to "collect a debt" i asked the lady about the situation, and she said "Oh no! Not another one" well obviously this has happened to many many people.
i had the same problem now i cant get the advance this year for christmas because it says i owe money even though i have a statement with a confirmation number showing it was payed in full
two state income taxes filed incorrectly
Twice, HR Block incorrectly prepared and electronically filed my Maryland state income taxes. One state income tax was incorrectly prepared and filed by a HR Block senior tax consultant. Because of HR Blocks incorrect state tax preparation and filing I lost two state refunds.
HR Block is mum on this issue. I have tried, but found it impossible to have a simple conversation with anyone from HR Block to resolve this matter.
Therefore, I have contacted the Maryland State Comptrollers office, the State of Maryland Pension agency, our local TV investigative reporters and a lawyer. In conversation with these offices and in checking the paper work, all say HR Block indeed twice prepared and filed incorrect Maryland state income tax forms and I am due two refunds. My lawyer said the HR Block Piece of Mind policy has no standing in this matter.
HR Block advertises the following on their web site and yet I can not get them to review their own work. HR Block, if I pay the $29.00 will you review your own paper work?
H&R Block Second Look® Offer - only $29*
Your taxes are done. Were they done right? You've got people to make sure. Let H&R Block review your tax return, no matter who prepared it, for only $29*.
Last year, we found errors on 87% of all the returns that were brought to us for a Second Look® review. Those who expected a refund and refilled with us received, on average, an additional $1, 300*.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
A flat tax rate and this kind of thing would never happen. Imagine, a industry has sprung up because the tax laws are so confusing and they are also confused. Who knew? The IRS is also known to give out bad advice. The surreal is real. Kafka make more sense than the tax codes at all levels.
mistakes yes, h&r block made big time mistakes on my 06 taxes now i will have to pay around $5, 000.00 ( just my church offering thay put 4, 100.00 and the paper that was from the church was 1, 400.00 ) that will cost me $750.00 and that is a start .if you know any way to get h&r block to pay can you e-mail me at rmitchms@aol.com thank you, richard
It's hard to tell from your complaint what happened. Filing two tax returns will not get you two refunds. Everyone would be filing dozens of returns if this were the case.
Hard to believe that H&R Block is 'mum on the issue'. What does that mean? Dead silence when you ask them about it? They all duck out the back door when you walk in? They hang up on you when you call? All unlikely.
It would be interesting to hear H&R Block's side of the story. Do they disagree that there was a mistake? What kind of a mistake would cause you to 'lose' your refund. Why were two returns filed?
You took your complaint to a lot of places, but did you go to H&R Block's District level? Mistakes can be corrected with amended returns, so if you don't trust H&R Block, take your copy(s) of the return(s) and have another preparation company fix them and since you already have a lawyer, sue H&R Block for the charges of correcting the mistake.
your fees
Sirs:
I have had H&R Block do my taxes for years. We do not take our taxes to you rep. in a bushel basket. We have it all sorted & entered in a Wilson Jones ledger & categorized in their respective collumns. Your rep. remarked that it doesn't take any time at all to go thru our info. I realize that your fees go up, but this year it went up 60% from last years 2006 return! My wife (Jeanette Larsen) asked why, & the rep. said that H&R sets the fees? We had our return done in your Sheridan, Wy. 82801 office on Coffeen Ave. I am 71 and am on a modest income. I give you permission to check my return if you wish. My wife is on SS disability for life & it seems that $344.00 is way too much for us senior citizens to pay. Respectfully...Dave Larsen
A H&R Block employee made a huge error on my taxes! The error cost me an audit and I now owe the IRS $6000.00! The "Tax Pro" said I could claim my girlfriend's kids since they have lived with me for at least 6 months. She was wrong, it's 12months not 6! Now I just finished my audit and I was over paid on my return. H&R Block said they would pay for the penalties but I am responible for the $6000.00 error. H&R Block did my taxes, H&R Block told me what to do and H&R Block made the blunder! So, why am I responible for H&R Block's mistake? I was a H&R Block customer for over 15 years! $6000.00 is alot of money for a single income family of 4!
beware of h & r block and hsbc
I got my taxes done at h & r block, and was offered a refund anticipation loan. I paid for this and was told I would get my money in 1-2 days. as hsbc (the administrator of the loan) was guaranteed to receive their money from the irs directly, I had no idea I could be denied, nor was I advised of this possibility. I called to pick up my check and was told I was denied. they would not give me a reason, and said I would still owe them $49.95. I said I was never advised of this. they told me to look through my paperwork, and sure enough, there was a paper that explained this, but not on any paper I had signed. the part of the contract containing this information was put into an envelope, and handed to me after I had completed signing my returns and other paperwork. my daughter in law had her taxes done at the same time, and was also not advised of this. she received her check, but after taking it to 5 banks (3 of which h & r suggested) including her own, she had to deposit the check and a 10 day hold was put on it. she was told by all 5 banks that they had to put a hold because hsbc could be slow in paying. this is all a scam. beware!

HR BLOCK and HSBC despite having recieved their ral loan payoff from the IRS are refusing to send me my the remander of my tax refund I called them both and HSBC keeps refusing to talk.
HR block and HSBC dispite recieving ther loan payoff from thr IRS are refusing and delaying my tax refund, I keep calling and they keep refusing to answer questions.
H&r block sucks ****. I v done my taxes for five years with h&r sucks. Allways got my money as soon as I left the spot. This year. They did my taxes in 15min. Told me ok we r dome you ll get your money from now till two days. Like a dumass I beleived him. Its been two days and nothing. I call this morning and he told me that the bank dint approve me and he dint know why. I'm so mad cause I couldof save me 300 bucks and done it my self. The only reason I whent to them was because I would get money on the spot. They just lost a client. I got a feeling that next year they are going out of business. H&R sucks****.
I am having problems with my car so I did a RAL for H&R block, I have done this in the past but this year I was denied the RAL could not get explanation over the phone from HSBC. Well if I am going to get denied I would have done the taxes myself and saved $300. If HSBC not going to approve then loan right there and then then this should be offerd by H&R block. I have also had problems with Jackson Hewitt with giving me a check and I deposited it into the bank and started wriiting checks to pay bills, only to find out that the money from the check would not be deposited into my account for 10 days well I had checks bounce all over and Threat to sue my bank and Jackson Hewitt, well needless to say I got my money for filling taxes through Jackson hewitt and got my overdraft fees dropped from my bank.
h&r block peace of mind, or scam?
My recent studies indicate that H&R Block sold thousands of "Peace of Mind" contracts to military personel who are active duty, claiming that the Peace of Mind program will help protect them against mistakes in their taxes while on duty in the USA and abroad. The sad fact is H&R Block has cashed in on that warranty program because they only provide a 30-day notification period from the time the taxation office sends notice to the taxpayer. With much of our military active in Iraq, Afganistan and other places, our fine soldiers are unable to respond in person to an H&R Block office in that timeframe. H&R Block is not extending any courtesy to our troops and simply banking the $30 that our soldiers paid for "Peace of Mind".
If you are a soldier serving in the USA or abroad, purchased the "Peace of Mind program" and have been subject to the same situation where H&R Block will not cover the mistake they made on your tax returns, we highly suggest that you keep an eye out for a pending class action lawsuit. Those who have been taken advantage of will be able to join the lawsuit for representation.
If you are active military and having your taxes prepared at an H&R Block, be hesitant in buying the protection they are selling because it probably will not cover you at all unless you can leave Iraq and walk into a H&R Block at anytime!
I was taken advantage of by H&R Block with this program. Being a soldier on active duty, I was not able to respond within 30 days and they made a $580 mistake on my taxes which they will not cover.
They are the McDonald's of tax prep. Failed to file 8946 form and schedule D back in 2018. IRS is pursuing a $230k tax on a $450k Primary home sale with a $35k GROSS profit. They have been ZERO HELP in solving their incompetence. Just found out WHY this demand for payment HAS BEEN COMING FOR 18 MONTHS, IRS finally sending an explanation. The Blockheads couldn't figure it out.
I have used the same H&R Block accountant several years, including while out of the country. In the last couple years I used the app in conjunction with my accountant. I used the app this year but decided to decline peace of mind. After reading more it appears it only covers a mistake my accountant makes. I trust my accountant, money is tight so I declined when I reviewed my document on the app. As a result I was not allowed to finish and pay and the message said it had to go back to the preparer. It seemed clear to me if I wanted the convenience I had to accept peace of mind. Today I get a phone call saying because I rejected that I have to physically come into the office. Really? Sorry, it feels like a major scam. I won't use the app again and will probably do my own taxes from now on.
H&R Block are a bunch of thief's, I encourage everyone to stay away and Boycott them. The of Mind is a SCAMMMMMMMMM...All you get is the run around, and you have to repeat the same information., over and over again. The employees, do not know the difference between their face and their [censored]". I will neve, never, never, ever patronize their corrupt business practice.
Block made a mistake on my returns and I caught one of them in time. I jumped thru all their hoops and they admitted to the mistake to the tune of almost 3000.00. And all I am getting is a run a round of excuses since Feb. 16 th. I wish their was a way to get a Clara action law suit against them. I have used them for almost 20 years. Not again ever.

What was the tax mistake that caused the additional tax to be added to your return? If you meet the time frame below, there is time to hopefully get this resolved with the IRS and perhaps with H&R Block.
You have protection from the IRS collection activities and penalty and interest do not accrue during the time that you are deployed to a combat zone or in performing activities in support of a combat zone and for the 180 days following your return from the combat zone area.
I work for H&R Block as an office leader, tax professional, enrolled agent and assist taxpayers who receive correspondence examination notices from the IRS. If you need help, contact Block and ask for an enrolled agent to help you.
