H&R Block / HRB Digital Unprofessional False Advertisement: My Experience with HR Block

So, I wanted to give my two cents about HR Block. They have this option where you can drop off your taxes, upload them, or come in person. I decided to upload them because I thought it would be easier. Cheryl was the one who handled my taxes and let me tell you, the whole process was a joke. I usually do my own taxes, but this year I thought I'd have an "expert" look it over. It took her three whole weeks to finish, and she didn't even call me to let me know it was done. I had to call a few times, and the operator was not very professional. Instead of putting me on hold, she said "Emily something something is on the phone." I tried to be patient, but it was frustrating.

I messaged Cheryl, but she didn't reply. I waited a couple of days before I decided to call and leave a message. Finally, she got back to me, and she said she emailed me instead of calling. She was rude every time I spoke with her. I decided to go in person to see what was going on. She never told me what my upfront cost was, and when we sat down, she was still rude. She even walked off to talk and laugh with the phone operator for a few minutes while I was sitting at her desk. I had already waited three weeks, and I was beyond angry at this point.

We finally got to the end, and she said I had to pay her $250. But the advertisement said it was "free" for basic returns. I asked her how much my return was, and she said it was $100, but I owed $84. So basically, I was only getting $15 back. I told her I would do my taxes myself. This time, I took my time and reviewed everything. And there it was, I was paying taxes for another state that I didn't even live in. Cheryl, being an expert, should have seen that.

I will continue to do my own taxes from now on. HR Block is a lying company that needs to change its name to "unprofessional false advertisement."

H&R Block / HRB Digital H&R Block's Website: Terrible Customer Service and Unnecessary Upsells

So, I just finished doing my taxes on H&R Block's website and boy was it a hassle. I thought I was done after completing my forms for self-employment and the state form, but then they hit me with a "Pro Review" service for $89.00. I was on hold for hours trying to get that charge removed because I've been filing my own taxes for 37 years and don't need a pro review. One person even told me that I had to have it because I filed self-employment, but that's not true at all. It was just a slimy up sale tactic.

After another 50 minutes on hold, I was told that the only way to get rid of the charge was to not file a schedule C, which is also not true. I just wanted to get my taxes filed, so I paid the fee and figured I would try to recover the money later. But it turns out that they sent my taxes to a "Pro" who said it would take 3 days to review them. I told her I didn't want her services or anyone else's, I just wanted my taxes sent. She released them to me, but I couldn't print or send them even though I had paid in full.

And that's not even the worst part. I spent a total of 3.75 hours on the phone and an additional 2.5 hours waiting in their chat just trying to speak to a live person. I was at the front of the queue in the chat multiple times, but it kept bouncing back and forth from 0 to 1 before they finally disconnected me. When I logged back on, they were closed. I was hung up on after waiting 50 minutes, 48 minutes, and then after waiting 56 minutes and being told my call would be answered in approximately 20 minutes, the next message was that my call would be answered in approximately 50 minutes! I held until I was hung up on again.

To make matters worse, they refused to release my tax forms to the IRS. What the heck?

After an additional 2.5 hours, I finally received a refund on the $89.00 charge, but now there are errors that can't be fixed. I created a help ticket, but I still can't file my taxes. It's so frustrating!

Overall, I would not recommend using H&R Block's website for filing your taxes. The customer service is terrible, and they try to upsell you on unnecessary services. Save yourself the hassle and find a different tax filing service.

H&R Block / HRB Digital Misleading Pricing and Policy Changes at H&R Block for Tax Preparation

I made an appointment online for my taxes at H&R Block and received a confirmation text. The day before my appointment, I received a reminder text. When I arrived for my appointment, I was told that I had to drop off my papers instead of having an in-person appointment. I was frustrated because I needed help understanding what was needed and had questions about the recovery rebate credit. I was not informed about this change in policy when I made my appointment, and I was not contacted prior to my appointment. I was told that there was not enough space for in-person appointments at this location.

I had no choice but to leave my papers, but I was unsure about what information was needed. Instead of going to a private cubicle, we went through my private documentation in the lobby area. I turned over all my paperwork and presented a new customer coupon for $25 off my preparation. The pricing of the preparation was not discussed, but when I scheduled online, I saw $79 advertised.

Three days later, the accountant called to tell me my taxes were finished and ready to pick up. She informed me that the preparation cost was $439 after my $25 coupon. I was upset because these extreme costs were not discussed prior to leaving my paperwork. I spoke with several other people who used H&R Block for their tax preparation, and they all confirmed that this was an extraordinarily high price, about twice what they paid. I feel strongly that I was taken advantage of, and this pricing was extreme. I know people who had their much more complicated business taxes completed for less.

H&R Block / HRB Digital Unprofessional and Disappointing Experience with H&R Block: A Cautionary Tale

I recently had an experience with H&R Block that left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. I needed to file a simple return for my LLC and made an appointment at the office three weeks in advance. I made it clear what I needed when I made the appointment, and even dropped off all the necessary documentation a week ahead of time. However, on the day of my appointment, I was informed that the "information system" was down and my appointment was cancelled. I was then shuffled to another preparer, Elba Holguin.

When I arrived for my rescheduled appointment, I was told to wait in the bullpen for Ms. Holguin. She arrived a few minutes late and seemed confused about why I was there. I reminded her of my appointment and that I had dropped off all the necessary documentation. She then realized that her boss had taken the materials and that she needed to be the one to do the return. I was asked to wait in the waiting area until she could fit me in.

After 45 minutes of waiting, I asked the receptionist what was going on. No one seemed to be able to give me an answer. Another hour went by with no progress. I then asked the new receptionist if I could either meet with Monica Hardeman, who was supposedly the only person qualified to file that type of return, or have my documentation returned. A few minutes later, my documents were returned with the news that Ms. Hardeman would not be able to meet with me and a terse "Sorry."

I was not happy with the service I received. My time is valuable, and I felt that it was not respected. The unprofessionalism of the staff was shocking, and I was left wondering how secure my return would be in their hands. I understand that mistakes happen, but this experience was unacceptable.

I would caution anyone considering using H&R Block to be aware of the risks. If they can't even set up an appointment correctly, how can you trust them with your tax return? I learned my lesson and will be using a different, more professional tax preparer in the future.

H&R Block / HRB Digital Terrible Experience with H&R Block: Delayed Refunds and Denial of Responsibility

I gotta say, I had a really bad experience with H&R Block. Like, seriously, do not use them if you value your time and money. Here's what happened: I had my tax returns for 2019 prepared by H&R Block at their Westlake, Ohio office. The person who helped me out there input the wrong Social Security number, and that mistake ended up delaying my refunds for both 2019 and 2020. It's been almost two years now, and I still haven't received my 2020 refund. Can you believe that? It's ridiculous.

The office manager did acknowledge the mistake and gave me a letter outlining the steps they would take to correct it. But then, get this, a company "Senior Paralegal" challenged the authenticity of the letter and denied any accountability for the delays. Like, what? They admitted the mistake, but now they're saying they have no evidence that it caused any delays? It's just a bunch of BS if you ask me.

And to make matters worse, the representatives at H&R Block don't seem to be doing anything to resolve the issue. They hide behind privacy laws and ask for irrelevant information instead of actually investigating the matter and finding a solution. It's like they're just trying to delay and deny any responsibility.

All of this has really hurt me financially. I had to borrow money for school since my refund wasn't available, and it made completing FAFSA more difficult since my returns weren't corrected. And yet, H&R Block still claims it's not their fault. It's just stunningly unprofessional and indicative of a poor work product.

Honestly, I would recommend finding and supporting your local CPA instead. Or, if you're feeling tech-savvy, go with TurboTax. It's a much better bargain, and you won't have to deal with all the delays and denials that come with H&R Block.

H&R Block / HRB Digital Mixed Experience at H&R Block: Great Tax Expert, Unprofessional Manager

I recently visited H&R Block to get my taxes done and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome I received from the lady at the front desk. Even though she was wearing a mask, I could tell from her eyes and voice that she was smiling. It made me feel comfortable and at ease.

My tax expert was knowledgeable and efficient. He knew exactly what he was doing and I was satisfied with my return. However, during the 1.5 hours I was there, I witnessed some unpleasant behavior from the office manager. I was told that she was the manager, but the way she was issuing orders was very rude. She didn't seem to care who heard her and even interrupted my tax expert while I was there.

I heard her arguing with someone, saying things like "I can't do that," "do this," "I want this," and so on. She was very loud and rude. Then she just walked away without any explanation. It was embarrassing and unprofessional. My tax expert apologized profusely in a low voice so she couldn't hear, I assume. He said that a lot of things weren't right this year in terms of management.

Despite this unpleasant experience, I felt totally at ease with my tax expert doing my return. I've already received and spent my refund, and I'm happy with the outcome. However, I do hope that the manager is fired for her behavior. It was unacceptable and unprofessional. If my tax expert goes to work in a different office, I will follow him.

H&R Block / HRB Digital HR Block's Paywalls and False Information: A Scam in Tax Preparation Services

HR Block is a tax preparation service that I recently used to file my taxes. I was disappointed to find out that they added paywalls to force me to upgrade to unnecessary services. They alleged that I needed a Schedule B form due to a $20 dividend income, even though the IRS only requires it for +1500 in dividend income. They also claimed that I needed a Medicaid form for +250k income, which was not the case for me.

Without upgrading, I was not able to file my taxes online, even though I had already paid for a version of their service. I tried contacting customer support both online through chat and over the phone, but they knew nothing about tax requirements and were not able to bypass the system.

After spending hours filling out my returns, I finally gave up and agreed to pay more for the upgrade. However, once I did, the requirement for those forms magically disappeared, and I was able to file my taxes online without filling out any additional forms.

This experience felt like a scam to me. HR Block introduced false information to force unnecessary upgrades to their service, and they should be fined and regulated for their actions. I hope that they will improve their practices in the future and provide a more transparent and honest service to their customers.

H&R Block / HRB Digital H&R Block: A Frustrating Experience with Payment and Customer Service

I was really trying to save some cash this year, so I thought I'd give h&r block a try. I went to their website and started entering all my tax information. Everything seemed to be going well, until I got to the end and tried to pay for some extra services. I decided to go for it and paid for the CPA sign off, audit protection, and state tax filing. But when I got to the final screen and entered my bank card information, I got an error message saying they couldn't file my taxes. I didn't understand the code reasons they gave me, so I tried to get some help from their online chat and customer service. But all they kept telling me was that all sales are final. I was so frustrated because I had paid for a service that they didn't provide. I asked for a refund, but they just kept repeating that e-filing federal taxes was free. Well, that might be true, but I had paid for extra services that they didn't deliver. So, I had to go to the bank and stop payment on the charges. It was such a hassle and I don't recommend h&r block to anyone.

H&R Block / HRB Digital Disappointing Experience with H&R Block Tax Services: Multiple Appointment Changes and Closed Office

So, I got an email from H&R Block saying they could do my taxes for me. I was like, cool, I hate doing taxes, so I accepted the appointment they set up for me. But then they called me and said they had to change the appointment. I was like, okay, whatever, I can be flexible. But then they did it again! I was starting to get annoyed. Finally, I went on their website and set up an appointment at a local office. They sent me a text message to confirm the time and place, but when I got there, the office was CLOSED! Like, what the heck, H&R Block? I had to go to another office and they couldn't even give me an in-person appointment. They said they would fax my documents to some other office and hope for the best. No discount or anything for all the trouble they caused me. And get this, the office I had originally scheduled at had been closed for a while and they didn't even bother to tell me! So not cool, H&R Block. I was really disappointed.

H&R Block / HRB Digital H&R Block: Decent Website, Terrible Follow-Up

The website of H&R Block is pretty decent, but that's where the good stuff ends. My usual tax firm decided to shut down this year, which was a bummer since they had been providing me with reliable service for 15 years. I was in a rush to get my taxes done since I had a business trip overseas planned, and H&R Block was conveniently located near my home. I thought it would be a quick and easy process, but boy was I wrong.

It took me a whopping 4 hours to get my taxes done and submitted to both the FED and State. When I got home that day, I was relieved to see a couple of emails from H&R Block informing me that my returns had been accepted. However, my relief was short-lived as I started receiving a barrage of emails from them asking me to rate their service. I was in no mood to deal with this, so I just sent a quick email back saying that the service rep had met my expectations.

But that didn't seem to be enough for them. I kept getting forms to complete, asking me how I felt about their service and if I had any suggestions. I tried to ignore them and hit the delete key, but they just kept coming. It was getting annoying, to say the least. I don't think I'll be recommending H&R Block to any of my friends. If they have a bad experience, they'll blame me for it, and I don't need that kind of negativity in my life. My advice to anyone using H&R Block is to not give them your email address.

H&R Block / HRB Digital Disastrous Experience with H&R Block in Helena, Montana: A Warning to Others

My experience with H&R Block was a complete mess. I went to their office on Euclid Avenue in Helena, Montana and used the walk-in option. I had all my information in order and filled out the required paperwork. However, things quickly went downhill from there.

After some time had passed, I called to check on the status of my tax preparation. To my surprise, they couldn't locate my file and suggested that I must have taken my information to a different office. It turned out that my file was actually under my middle name, but I had to suggest they look there.

To make matters worse, my work was given to a temporary employee who was terminated on April 15th. She completely messed up my taxes and I had to explain the errors to them. When I received a call saying that the mistakes had been corrected, I was told that a particular item of concern couldn't be calculated because it "wasn't in their system." This was frustrating, to say the least.

To add insult to injury, I had been advised earlier that there would be no extra charge because the taxes were originally incorrect. However, when I went to pick them up, there was an additional charge added. I explained that this was not my understanding and ended up not paying the additional fees. It seemed like the right thing to do given the situation.

Overall, my experience with H&R Block was a complete cluster$#*!. I would not recommend them to anyone.

H&R Block / HRB Digital Unprofessional and Dishonest: My Experience with H&R Block's Peace of Mind Service

I've been a loyal customer of H&R Block for many years now. However, my experience last year was not a pleasant one. I received a letter from the IRS stating that there was an error in my 2018 tax return. I immediately contacted H&R Block, as I had paid for their peace of mind service. Unfortunately, my issue was not resolved and I had to visit four different offices to get it sorted out.

To make matters worse, I was told that the person who had prepared my tax return had retired. However, I later found out that he was still working at the same site. It took over a year to finally have my peace of mind claim filled, and to my surprise, it was denied. I was shocked and frustrated as I had provided all the necessary documents and had paid for the peace of mind service. I couldn't understand how my claim was denied.

I feel that H&R Block's behavior was unprofessional and dishonest. They did not stand by their mistakes and dragged out the process until I either gave up or paid for a lawyer. This is not what I expected from a company that I had trusted for so many years. I am now forced to pay a lawyer fee to have H&R Block sued and make them keep their peace of mind contract.

I strongly advise against going to H&R Block. They do not stand by their mistakes and will drag out the process until you either give up or pay for a lawyer. I hope my experience will help someone from making the same mistake I did and having to pay lawyer fees to have H&R Block stand behind their word and contracts.

H&R Block / HRB Digital H&R Block: A Nightmare Experience with My Stimulus Checks and Taxes

I had a really bad experience with H&R Block. The IRS gave me a pen# because someone tried to use my SS#. I moved a couple of times and forgot to give the P. O. my new address. This is when everything went downhill. I tried to contact the IRS for two years to get my new pin #, but it was impossible. They send a different one every year, and I couldn't keep up with it. After endless attempts, I was told the only way to get my stimulus check(s) was to file through the mail.

I went to H&R Flop and explained my situation. I hadn't worked in a year, so I didn't have a W-2, just the stimulus checks (3 of them). The lady said it was no problem, she had done this plenty of times. I paid her my $80 upfront, and she assured me that everything was going to be alright. However, I didn't receive any check in two months. I called her back, and she reassured me that everything was good. A month passed, and I called again, but the office was closed, and tax season was over.

A year and a tick later, I finally had W-2s because I had been working. I tracked the lady down, and she gave me the cold shoulder. She laughed at me constantly, telling me what she couldn't do. She didn't keep her promise to see this through with me, and all the assurance and reassurance were gone. She told me to call the IRS, call the IRS. I know who I won't EVER again file my taxes with. H&R Crock!

H&R Block / HRB Digital Disappointing Experience with H&R Block's Small Business Specialist: Inaccurate Review and Poor Customer Service

I paid H&R Block to have one of their small business specialists review my 2019 taxes that I completed online. I have a salaried job and also own a small business (LLC, S-Corp). However, the specialist did not catch that my QBI was not deducted as it was in the previous year (which I also did with H&R Block). Additionally, no value was entered for my donations. I tried to reach out to the specialist for assistance in amending my taxes, but I was unable to get in touch with him.

I decided to call the customer service number and scheduled a call with another specialist for the following week. However, this specialist told me that I do not qualify for the QBI for my small business income, even though the IRS website (and my 2018 H&R Block advisor and 2020 tax professional) say otherwise. In fact, she even suggested that the IRS may come after me for the 2018 taxes which H&R Block also reviewed for me! This was very concerning and frustrating.

Now, I am left with two options: pay a tax professional to amend my return or do it myself, just as if I had used the inexpensive H&R Block self-service option. I am deeply disappointed with both the services I paid for and the lack of customer service. I had a smaller-firm CPS file my 2020 taxes and he saved me thousands. This experience has taught me that when it comes to tax prep, you get what you pay for. I will never use H&R Block again.

It is important to note that I am not a tax professional and I rely on the expertise of those who are. I trusted H&R Block to provide me with accurate and reliable services, but they failed to do so. This has caused me a lot of stress and anxiety, and I hope that others can learn from my experience and choose a more reliable tax preparation service.

H&R Block / HRB Digital H&R Block: Not Recommended for Nonresident Aliens with F-1 Visa

I gotta say, if you're like me and you're a nonresident alien with an F-1 visa, you might wanna steer clear of H&R Block. I mean, seriously, this company is the pits.

Let me tell you, they'll try to maximize your federal refund by applying deductions that aren't even eligible for nonresident aliens. And you might not even notice it unless you compare your tax documents with those prepared by other companies, line by line. And if you've got any issues with your tax records, you're gonna have even more issues when you apply for a green card.

I tried using their online tax refund program, and I even talked to one of their so-called "tax professionals" to make sure I was following all the tax laws of the U.S. I asked her to fix my tax documents that H&R Block had prepared by removing all those deductions that weren't eligible for nonresidents, so I could get the right refund.

But then, out of nowhere, my application was just cancelled without any notice from the professional or the company. And yet, my payment was still there, just waiting to be taken. So I had to spend another 4 hours trying to cancel the payment. And when I called their customer service, I was just transferred from one person to another, and I had to keep repeating my personal information and explaining my situation over and over again.

Let me tell you, if you don't have a lot of time to waste working with this company, you might wanna pick another one. I sure did, and now I can finally have some peace of mind.

H&R Block / HRB Digital 2017 irs tax filing and 2017 amended return

In 2018, I filed my 2017 Federal return with H&R Block. In 2022, I received a letter from the State of Colorado stating I need to file in Colorado for my 2017 partial year residency in Colorado. This was not identified by H&R Block at the time of the original filing. H&R Block reviewed my situation and completed a late 2017 return for Colorado. In the process, they discovered an error in the 2017 Federal return. They amended the Federal return and I sent in a paper copy. The IRS responded and told me "the year was closed" and nothing can be done about this overpayment. I paid over $20,000 excess to the IRS due to this error. H&R Block is not responsive to my inquiries for resolution. The person who was handling my situation is now off for the season. I have made several attempts to reach someone at H&R Block for resolution to no avail.

Desired outcome: I would like H&R Block to be accountable for their error and provide me with a payment in the amount of my over-payment to the IRS.

H&R Block / HRB Digital Mistake made by H&R and I have to do the stressful work of resolving the issue with IRS

Representative tried to review and submit an amended statement. That was all that was done no follow up. When IRS continued to contact me, H&R representative said unfortunately I am not the only one with an outstanding amended return. I had to spend countless hours on the phone trying to reach an IRS agent. They never received the amended form which was told to H&R and that was the answer I received by H&R “unfortunate” My refund for another year is being held and there is still a balance due.

Desired outcome: Fix the problem and pay the penalties and interest. Do the legwork with me!!I have to lay out all the money and hope H&R pays the penalties and interest.

H&R Block / HRB Digital My completed federal & state tax returns for which I have to pay irs

The Sterling Virginia 20164 Community Plaza office:

They don't have convenient office hours even during tax season. They don't have anyone to answer questions about taxes in a way that doesn't take 3-4 days, even in tax season. I tried to get my completed tax return just now at 5:00 PM EDT and they are already closed. The receptionist didn't tell me they close early.

They didn't try to help me pay less tax much less get the refund you wildly advertise. I have to pay a substantial amount of tax.

H&R Block didn't help me at all alleviate any of the hefty tax amount I owe IRS. They did nothing to help me pay less tax because of the repayment of Marketplace premiums that I was unaware of. They're office closes early even in tax season and they make it difficult to get my completed return.

******** They don't give me accurate or even complete answers to tax questions. *********

I am able to get my completed tax forms by tomorrow Sunday March 26th 2023 or I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau, my Congressman, and the IRS.

Desired outcome: I want my completed tax forms, or I will sue for $5,000, contact IRS for their help, contact my congressman, contact the BBB.

H&R Block / HRB Digital My tax preparer told me to take my service dog from the building. take

I went to the Stillwater Oklahoma hand r block with my wife and PSD service dog and quickly realized that my tax person did not want my dog in her office at first site. My dog recognizing my irregular breathing put is paw on my leg and got bad look from my tax person then she asked me why I have the dog not believing he is a service dog, she told me that gives service dogs a bad name, service dogs, and I quote what she said( my friend has a service dog because she is diabetic and it should never be petted even at home, that is not a service dog) you have build a relationship with your and it has to recognize when you need it and yes you pet your dog. So I tried to explain that the dog is for my anxiety disorder and she told me that's called emotional support animal. I said no that's not what he is. My dog was not misbehaving as you would see if there are video cameras in that office which I'm sure there are. If my dog is supposed to lay on floor like a sac of potatoes what good is he like she suggested. I called the trainer who helped me and he suggested calling the Department of justice so I did. The person from the DOJ confirmed what I know, the questions and comments made are illegal and I need not prove ot provide any documentation or proof of anything. It was demoralizing. My dog is now going to board and train with with an advanced trainer which will cost me alot, the DOJ told me that it is not necessary to do that this should never happen but with the documentation of the formal training this will not happen again.

Desired outcome: Employees be educated and not discriminate.
