I mainly shop at your Hanbury Rd location since the store was built about 18-20 years ago. Since that time I have become disabled and can’t walk for long without extreme pain. The carts used to be in foyer until manger? I assume threw them outside since then kids have got at them 4 old green ones that seats are ripped, hard to turn from being over extended, that have shorts so as you are drive g it stops sudden, then you have turn the steering column back & forth flip the off/on switch back & forth them start in in reserve to go forward. We need new ones and few more.
I have been to Courthouse store they have a problem with no one in charge of charging them so 90% of time they are dead but they are inside the foyer. I have been to the by Volvo pkwy, they are newer, are in the foyer and work well. I have been to Sandbridge store they are inside and are newer sometimes not charged. I have been to the Virginia Beach Blvd store and the carts are inside work well & have been charged.
The number of people with disabilities have been slowly increasing as we are all getting older, using walkers, canes or wheel chairs so these motorized carts are really needed to be able to maintain some self sufficient and dignity..
Desired outcome: Replace with newer or refurbished carts, have them put back inside in the foyer so the kids don’t destroy or steal them and also at all the stores the manager have someone in charge of charging them over night every night.

On 10/2/2025 I made a complaint, it was posted on this site….& that is all that has been done…
January 2, 2026 the situation has only gotten worst out of 4 motorized carts only ONE is now working
3 do not charge any longer as they need new batteries, the workers plug them in and they are dead, When they did work thus us what disabled shoppers had to deal with one cart would just abruptly stop like getting whip lash, another one when you stop to get a grocery from the shelf it won’t restart unless you twist the steering column back several & forth several times and then you have to go in reverse before you and go forward. Another one the push to go steering is backwards you have to pull back like for reverse to go forward and push forward to go into reverse, in addition the seat covering is all ripped up , because of being left outside and kids wrecking them.
This situation is unacceptable to say the least, we not just myself have complained to front desk for over a year and NOTHING is done to change the situation. The store manager feels it is more important to use the foyer of the store for displaying bottled water or potatoe chips, etc. then customers, so that leaves little room for regular shopping carts, come in they pile out into the walk area causing congestion in the foyer for people trying to leave with the groceries in their cart and those coming in to do shopping trying to get a cart, you need to a traffic cop to just direct shoppers coming & going. They are making food shopping a terrible experience for ALL the shoppers…
WE COMPLAIN AND IT FALLS ON DEAF EARS….there are 3 other grocery stores in close proximity Walmarts has carts that all work and when there is a problem it is taken care of immediately, Food Lion has working carts & Kroger has working carts only HARRIS TEETER has NON WORKING AND IN DISREPAIR MOTORIZED CARTS, being a disabled person in this store you are ignored as shopper by management their posture to take care of repairs & treat your customers better they aren’t the only store in town…….
