How long does it take to investigate a car rental breakdown? I booked a car hire via Ryanair and Goldcar, at Girona Airport, were allocated my rental. The car was collected on 27 April 2026. Within a few hours the car brokeddown on the motorway and recovery took 3 hours and 30 mins. The car was recovered and eventually the rentals road assistance provided a taxi to take me and 3 other 70+ olds onto our hotel. We had no drinks, food or toilets and had been left on the hard shoulder and even the pickup truck was hit by another vehicle which demonstrated how dangerous this situation was.. I had paid 3 days hire and charged a refuel deposit. I was so traumatised by the breakdown and recovery I did not want a replacement car (nor was one offered. I raised a customer services complaint the following with Goldcar. On the last day of my short trip I recieved a resoonse from Goldcar apologising but saying they needed to carry out a full investigation. That was on 30 April 2026. I have requested several updates and always get the same response that its being investigated. I cannot understand why the full car hire charge is not fully refunded. Nor the fuel deposit returned as clerly the car having been towed away I was unable to fill the tank. I had also used very little fuel given it brked down with hours.
