I bought a 99 Oldsmobile Intrigue three and a half years ago from the JD Byrider in Appleton Wisconsin. I was between a rock and a hard place because I was moving out of state and had no established credit history so no car company would finance me. My car ran fine for the first three months but quickly started to fall apart. Within a year and a half of...

J.D. Byrider don't buy from them!

I purchased a car from JD by Ryder in 04 I pulled the car off the lot with the Check Engine light on and a promise it would be fixed. Well a month or so passes and still no repairs unable to receive hard plates. Car stopped running and I refused to pay for this lemon. JD then repo car. In 07 I contact CNAC who then tells me they were unable to resale the [protected]@ it was totalled. But asks me to pay the full balance for the same car they were unable to resale. Its running my life stuck on my credit report and I don't understand how they expect me to pay for a lemon I don't even know how they drove the car to the lot to sell it to me it was a lemon. Now may she rest in peace because she did get me to work a whole three weeks...

. I agreed to purchased a vehicle with JD Byrider company based on false facts that was given to me by the mentioned associate(Rhashika Jefferson). She lead me to believe that (without taxes included) the vehicle I purchased would be dropped $1000, from the original price, and that my car (2000 Dodge Stratus ) would have full coverage insurance for only $87...

JD Byrider/CNAC is, in my opinion, participating in organized fraud. To have your vehicle repossessed for being in default by one day is ridiculous at best and serves no ones interest but the profits of the company. They are selling the same vehicle over and over again to unsuspecting consumers that will have it repossessed, no matter what, if you go even a...

J.D. Byrider terrible company

I had some financial trouble in the past with mostly medical bills and had to file bankruptcy. Due to this I couldn't get a car loan. The car I was driving was a 94 with over 220K miles. It was always breaking down and that was making me miss work. I needed another car. I didn't have the money for a big down payment and ended up at JD Byrider. Well, at first the "program" sounded great and the salesman, who doesn't work for them anymore, made it sound wonderful. I had never bought a car before with payments since all the others I had were bought outright from friends and private deals.

So, I signed up for the "program" and bought a 2001 Ford Taurus with 73K miles. It ran great for the first few months but now the trans is slipping badly, the rotors are warped and a bunch of little things like dash lights and mirror adjustments are not working.

A few months ago, August 20th, I lost my job but found another one quickly and didn't fall behind on my payments at all. I did call them to see if I could pay weekly since that is how the new job was paying me and they said that was fine. All was well for a bit until I realized I wasn't able to keep that job due to the lifting requirement not being disclosed to me at first and my health not allowing me to do it. So, I went to another job which is working out great. In the month that I was out of work I fell one week behind on my payments and the phone calls started. They call me sometimes 5 times a day even though I just made a payment in person and they were very nice. The account manager who holds my account, Debbie at the Hermitage, PA location, is EVIL! I called the one week to let them know that I got mandated and would not be able to make it in by 6pm to make my payment. I would drive up after work to put it in the drop box. She literally screamed at me and told me I was an irresponsible idiot and if I wanted to keep my car then I would find a way up there right then to pay it. Up to this point I had never been even a day late!

Right now, I still have the car but am a week behind on payments because I don't get a check until the 11/05 and I told them this and that I would catch up everything on that day. They keep telling me they're coming to get my car so I keep hiding it even though I've never seen a tow truck at my house, I have video surveillance. I don't know how soon they actually come to repo but that Debbie lady told me that if I was even 1 day late they would be out that night to get my car.

They have no sympathy for anyone. Haven't any of them ever fallen in a pinch and needed a few weeks to pay something? Have a heart people. I'm not *** that they sold me a car that was worth 5K for over 11K or that it is already having problems which they won't fix. I just wanted a short amount of time to get caught up. I will never recommend them to anyone and I am going through a legal service to find out if there is any recourse for harassment and being treated the way that woman did to me. I don't speak to anyone in that way and I sure won't accept it from her.

I totally agree, they are heartless crooks! We too also purchased a 98 ford windstar fro them, which I did not want, I wanted to get a newer van but the salesman kept telling me those cars weren't ready to be sold yet, a buch of BS, but because we needed a vehicle, my husband agreed to get the 98 van, they had us put down $2400 that we made in installments then $378 a month, we got the van in may 06' and they told us it would be paid in full nov 09, now they are telling us, the payments end in feb 2010, I just don't know how the hell we owe that much for a piece of crap old van, I mean I totalled up what we paid, and it is well over $15, 000 for a 98 van, I mean I can but a brand new van for that price! Now we are delinquent in payments but never gave back the van yet! I feel they got way more than they should got andi still have the van. Well I will just wait and see what next! Just tired of these clowns taking people who try to do the right thing for a ride, now I'm taking them 4 a ride!

In November 2008 i purchased a car from J.D. BYRIDER in Kernersville, NC at that time, my husband was receiving disability from a stroke and I was working full time. In January 2009, I lost my job and was not eligible for unemployment and the IRS began taking $322 from my husband's disability pension for moneys owed. Up until that time, payments were made on time every month. In June 09 we started having problems with making payments on time. Instead of making them every month we were making them every 2 weeks and admittingly, sometimes they would fall behind but I would still keep in contact with them to let them know what was going on. My husband has no health insurance and has to pay for his medication and office visits monthly. After contacting them, they harassed me daily, calling back to back and sometimes sales people would show up at the door. They even called my references after I had already spoken to them, to let them know my business. My car was repossessed on August 21st 2009, after making a payment on the 12th of August as well as giving them $305 for backpay. Again, we have no car and I do not know how I will be able to take my husband to his doctor visits.

J.D. ByRider is heartless and I would not suggest for anyone to purchase a car from them.

I too was such a victim in the Canton OHIO area from this company.

My payment's were automatically taken from the checking account. They took the payment out whenever: it was never the same time as stated in the contract, which bounced my account a couple times and they sure didn't pay the overdraft fee's either.

I switched job's and told this company I had to change my due date to the 15th and last day of the month. This company refused to work with me and kept charging me a late fee payment on top of the regular car payment.

Several times a week the office girl named Tena would call and leave messages my payment was late and when was I making it.
Repeatedly I told her. I only get paid on the 15th and the last day of the month. She was very rude and told me I had to pay it or they'd reposs the car.

Then she was calling my employer asking to give me a message.
They even sent them a letter verifying when my payday's were and they were willing to do payroll deduction. This company refused saying they could not change the due date.

On June 21st, 07 Tena called me saying I had to make the car payment now and the late charge fee or they were going to repose the car. I told them fine come and get it it was sitting in the driveway and the key was in the glove box. For three weeks the car sat in the driveway. Finally I had enough and drove the car to their car lot on the corner of West Tusc. and Wertz in Canton OH Friday the 13th, July 07.

On the 18th I went in and sign release paper's on the car.

Several weeks later I received a notice in the mail saying:
REPOSSESSION NOTICE
ON 7/25/7 CNAC repossessed your 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA
serial number 2G1WP55E6Y9265624. The Collateral for you loan #1708056.
You are in default because
1. You failed to pay your installments when due 7/2/7.
2. You failed to maintain full coverage car insurance with CNAC as Loss Payee.
3. CNAC, in good faith, believes that you cannot, or will not, pay or perform Your obligations under the Retail Instamment Contract.

If this is your second, or greater, default you must pay off with cash or certified funds the entire Loan balance before NA in order to reclain vehicle. If your vehicle was impounded by the public official, you many not be able to reclaim the vehicle. In that case you will have to contact that official or agency to determine your rights to the vehicle. If this is your first under the Contract, you may cure this default be paying to CNAC, in cash or certified funds in total of:
1. Installments due and past due $632.48
2. Unpaid delinguency charges $ 40.00
3. Redemption Fee * $ 25.00
*Note: the total repossession expense is $205.00 of which $180 will be added to your loan balance, if you reclaim the vehicle.
4. Security deposit equal to two (2) installments $316.24
5. TOTAL $1013.72

YOU MUST ALSO RE-QUALIFY FOR YOUR LOAN by providing veriable proof of residence full time regular employment, sufficient income for all obligations, working home phone number, and full coverage car insurance policy that list CNAC as loss payee/lien holder as required by your loan contract.

NOTICE OF SALE
Such payments and information must be received by CNAC no later than 21 days after your vehicle was repossessed that date is 8/14/7 you do not cure the default before that date, CNAC will sell the above-mentioned vehicle at public auction on 8/18/07 11AM at Consolidated Auto Auction, 351 16th Street SW, New Philadelphia OH 44663. The vehicle will not be sold for less than $50.00.

YOU WILL BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY DEFICIENCY
Your vehicle is now in a storage lot and will remain there until the day of the auction. You may recover any personal items remaining in the vehicle up to 30 days after the date of Repossession. If you need to retrieve items before that time, you may call us to arrange a mutually agreeable time and place for you to remove those items from the vehicle.

Funny part is my brother and I took the car to the car lot on W> Tusc and Wertz in Canton OHIO on Friday the 13th, July 07 and put the key inside their drop box. I also went in and signed a release paper saying I turned the vehicle in because they refused to change the due date on my payments due to a job change pay days were not until the 15th and last day of the month. So how could the I D 10 T's have repossessed it. DAH! Here's your sign dumby.

The full coverage on the vehicle was not cancelled until July 31st, 2007. My insurance agent notifed them by mail when I showed her a copy of the above letter they sent me.

Notice in the above letter they say they are going to requalify you for the loan, yet when I only wanted them to change my due date they flat of refused to do it.

Now I have to go to court over this ###.

J.D. Byrider terrible experience

I am an auto technician for j.d.byryder and I just wanted to say that the cars at our dealership go through a rigorous inspection to ensure that our customers get the best product that will hopefully not have any problems. I have seen cars rejected for sale that didn't meet the stringent standards that have to be met before the cars are allowed to be sold. I am sorry that some of you have had car problems how ever, It is a used car after all. Our dealership has only the best technicians working on our cars. We always try to do whats right and do our best. J.D. ByRyder A.S.E. certified auto repair technician.

I would be embarrassed to work for jd byrider...Sadly they take advantage of people when they're in a bad spot. Just look at all of these complaints! How do they get away with it? I know that they have legal loopholes they jump through to protect themselves- but it just is NOT right. JD Byrider does NOT look out for their customers in ANY way unless it benefits jd byrider. My daughter is in a real bind now with the piece of junk they sold her. She's had the car a couple months & now it needs a new engine amongst other things...BEWARE!

Unfortunately your company makes false claims and puts people in vehicles that are bound to breakdown from any number of causes that are not resolved prior to the customer's purchase. It is a scam that needs to be stopped. A class action suit will no doubt be following shortly from so many customers being taken advantage of. I regret everyday the fact that I purchased one of your vehicles. I should have gone straight to a dealership, but was nervous that my credit wouldn't be sufficient enough, when in fact, it was. Sir your comments are mis-leading and no doubt written by an employee that doesn't care about it's customers. Hopefully the light will turn on, in your head, and you will read all these customer complaints before making false accusations.

My son-in-law and brother bought vehicles through this company. They were told repair's had to be made at their shop only our warranty was invalid.

They were told new parts were put in. After numerous trips back to their repair shop in Canton OHIO they told them to keep their vehicle.

They charge more for the part's then if the people would have bought the part themselves. Didn't meet the dead line they said it would be done in. Refused to give you a rental car while your vehicle was in the shop.

J.D. Byrider harassment

JD Byrider in Clementon NJ has an mechanic who is spanish who on a constant basis sexually harasses any woman who may come to the garage for any reason, be it employee, delivery person, or someone there to get their car fixed. The owner is aware of this and takes no actions to correct the situation. We should boycott this business until this "man" is kicked to the curb! DO NOT DO BUSINESS with this company! I have written the main office to complain and as of this point have heard nothing back. If you read this and know where I am speaking of beep as you go by as a form of complaint!

J.D. Byrider stay away

I hate JD ByRyder! I did not have good credit and I knew I was getting screwed before I even bought it. I had no other choice, now the car has been in the shop for 1 month and they are still trying to do all of these minor fixes that are costing me more money. I know its my fault for not having good credit, but they should not take advantage so much, like jack the price up on the car $4, 000 more than book value and trying to kill you with small repairs before they get to the real problem.

Maybe were preaching to the choir but, it feels good to tell other people how bad this company is.

P.S. The day I bought the car I took all stickers and license plate frames off of my car. I hate JB Byryder!

Went there to test drive a car on their lot in St. Clairsville, OHIO and it wouldn't even start.
A friend of mine bought a car from them...drove it 15 miles to his house, shut it off, and it wouldn't restart. The same car had a moon roof. The first day it rained...well...can you GUESS what happened?

Hello, I am Eddie Pratt Of Madison, Indiana. I wanted to know if anyone of the people that are making a complaint on here have ever looked at the paperwork or the facts. I work for J D Byrider. I have been with the company for just over 2 years and my customers are now paying off their vehicles through the finance company CNAC. I wonder if these folks would be willing to review the Video They Watched When They Bought Their Vehicle.

Right on. I'm going to appeal their garnishing my part time wages.

Luckily for me I kept track of every day they called me on my answering machine. My employer also said they would vouch for me when I go to court that the Canton OHIO office refused to work with us on the due date of my payments.

Then after I turned the car in and signed the release paper's one of their salesmen had nerve to call me wanting to know if I needed a car loan. I kept track of those calls as well.

And them helping you out with credit still does not and should not qualify them to rip you off! Thats just unfair business! My fiance had okay but not great credit and they told him that they would work with him and in doing that they told him he only needed $800 down on a '97 Grand Prix. Well the kelly blue book value for his car was- for a car in excellent condition- around $6-7, 000 and he ended up paying $13, 00! And the customer service is crap! The original woman who sold him the car quit about 5 months after and then a new woman came in and she is the most obnoxious, uncaring woman I have ever met! Shes horrible! No one ever had a good answer for us when we had a question, they all are incompetent! The maintenance people are inept as well- my fiance was in an accident in the first two moths with the car- luckily it was still under warranty and they installed a junkyard engine- which was all well and good- but then they put dex-cool in the car even though there was a recall because it can ruin the head gasket! Not to mention since they "worked" on the car the wiring system has not been the same! Even after the accident everything electronically was working great but as soon as it left their shop it was all crap! Oh and they sold it to him with fog lights that didnt work and when we went to get it inspected the first year we had it we were told that a car cannot pass inspection with fog lights that dont work- so we had to pay to have them taken out! And it seems like the second the warranty was up every other month there was something else needing to be fixed...JD Byrider=huge ripoff!

Sorry this is so long! I hate that this company has put people through- they prey on people who dont have great credit and they feel like they can treat them however they want to, and its disgusting! Im sorry you had to deal with them too! My fiance ripped the jd byrider vanity plate off his car too :)

You need to remember that when you purchase from JD Byrider that you are getting way more than a vehicle. They are giving you the opportunity to rebuild your credit when nobody else would, and that is worth more than any amount you could pay.

J.D. Byrider Don't do business with them

I got a vehicle financed through JD Byryder a little over 3 years ago. I too was told that I could trade in the vehicle for a new one if my payments were on time for a year. All the payments that were made over 1 1/2 years did not bring down the balance. In fact, I owed more than the purchase price. Thank god or the Attorney Generals office. Apparently I wasn't the only one. An investigation was by the State of Iowa for Nebraska and Iowa consumers and the company was closed down. By this time I had secures an auto loan with my credit union. I was told to return the car and put the keys in the drop box--and I did. I called the customer service dept and they tried to get me to keep the vehicle. I notice on my credit report it says account closed and payment in full settled for less. If you are thinking about financing with CNAC-DON'T...save yourself some money, time and frustration.

I received a Lapse of Insurance Coverage form letter from CNAC Representative Tammy that stated "Your insurance company has notified us that as of --/--/----, your insurance has been/will be canceled. In the event you are stopped by a police office, you may be ticketed for driving without insurance. Also, in the event of an accident, you will be responsible for all property damage to others caused by you."
The letter further stated it is very important they receive reinstatement information within 48 hours. I was instructed to have my insurance company fax my policy information to their office.
The first call I made was to my insurance company. It was for documented proof that there was no lapse of coverage.
My insurance company verified there was never a lapse of coverage. They never contacted CNAC.
I have purchased two vehicles through the local J.D. Byrider without an issue. I made my payments ahead of time by three to four months. I nearly have my second vehicle paid off. I will never do business with them again.
I am looking into pursuing action against CNAC for a false and threatening document sent by mail.

I bought a car from JD Byrider back in March. Man I wish I could have seen this back then and did more research on the company. The sales man was nice but the financing company is awful. They are extremely rude and constantly calling the people I put down for references. There has been no reason and it's pretty much gotten to the point of harassment. It's like they are constantly checking up on me and just being down right rude. I will never ever again purchase a car from them or refer anyone to them. I'm way over paying for my vehicle in more ways then one. In fact just last week I had to put 2 new rear tires on it because the treading came off of my rear right tire and the car is starting to make funny noises. I will be taking the car to my own auto shop and not using theres.

I bought my car through JD Byrider and the financing is through CNAC. The first year of payments were for interest only. I still owe close to 9, 000 for a car that is only worth 2. Then I came to find out that everything I have been doing to build my credit through them isn't being reported had I known what I was in for I never would've done it. Ugh! They are rude and make me feel like they are above anyone. I have over a year paid in and still have over two years to go for a 3 year loan. Can't figure that out but I guess they feel the interest payments deserved a year of its own. I made a big mistake that is not going away anytime soon. I tell my family and friends to never go through this company or JD Byrider. It's not worth the hassle

I am having a horrible experience with this company.. From start to present it has been a nightmare! issues with payment dates not being flexible to daily interest being added to an already over inflated debt @ a 24.995 interest rate.. Worst fears have came to past... After paying $411.00 per month for a 2006 pt cruiser for 25 months, it was stolen and deemed a total loss. If that wasn't emotional distress enough, now to add insult to injury they say I still owe them $7000... They are insane...Unwavering... And they expect me to make the same note previously stated or they threaten to garnish me...I refuse to continue to be belittled, disrespected by their employees, called a "problem from day one" by the branch manager, told no one else would ever finance me, and to be robbed. I had addressed these previous issues with them numerous times and they blow me off, but do not hesitate to call me a day before my payment is due to ask for my payment. Not to mention the 10 different numbers they have assigned to harass people even after you tell them when you will pay. Ughhhhh...This has to be illegal. I feel like they pray on people in desperate situations and make their lives worse. Kind of like a gift from the devil. No good can come from it. I was for sure with the amount i owed that i had included some sort of gap insurance. They were quick to say it was never offered so what am i paying $24, 000 for if there are no fees for warranties and insurance, the car price was 12, 995... I'm lost and pissed off.

They have been the ABSOLUTE WORST! I went to them in hopes of helping rebuild my credit being that's what they advertise. Since I've received my vehicle I've had nothing but problems, whether it's been the vehicle in it's self or the misleading unknowledgeable representatives. My only good experience has been with the manager of the service department and the guy who sold me the car. Everyone else I've dealt with has given me the "run-around" and different stories each time I've called. I requested a due date change being that I had a change in employment. I was told to send in two most recent paycheck stubs and make two on time payments after they received the two stubs. Here it is 2 months and several payments later and I'm still going back and forth with them about it not being switched but they're taking the money out of my account each time I get paid, on the day that I get paid. After being called and harassed about a payment on weeks that I'm no longer paid on and the fact that they're already automatically taking payments out of my account, I had enough. I was being told this person and that person was the owner on my account, so I asked to speak to whomever was in charge. I got manager Anthony Palmer who then goes on to say "Oh I apologize for the misunderstanding but you didn't make your payments on time and we need you to send in two more check stubs so we can send in a due date change". It's really unacceptable and these people really don't care the people they have as customers. Once my car is paid off I will no longer deal with company, and as a current consumer if you want to work with a company that cares about the people they deal with, I'd advice you not choose CNAC. Several people told me not too do it and I didn't listen. Not to mention not even two months in having the car my transmission went completely out and my rotors were bad.

Thank the Lord I never bought a car from them. I went with a friend several years ago when she bought a car there, from the Salt Lake City, UT location. I could not believe how horribly rude they were to a brand new paying customer with cash in hand. They acted like entitled [censored]es and didn't let her select the car she wanted, they told her what car she could buy out of the dozens and dozens on their lot. Who does this? Unfortunately she must've been very desperate but I didn't ask and she didn't volunteer. What a ridiculous way to run a "business"!

I bought a 2003 Chev Impala. When I drove up to start looking for a car, they brought me a car one by one, not letting me see all the cars for me to choose, like they were hiding them or something. Ive never had a car lot do things that way. Soon after, problems started happening w/the car. I had the car picked up as it was undriveable, already, went to their crappy repair shop who didn't fix the problems right. I couldn't get to work because of it, lost my job. The only good thing was, Lawanda at the Merrillville location, my old rep, worked w/me very well while I had no income. I called my new rep letting her know I got a new job. When I started working again, then the company becomes unreasonable. My new rep put me on hold. A "floor supervisor", Orlando or something, came on the phone, gave me THE worst cs! He was extremely rude, demanded ALL owed paid in full, THAT DAY! I told him I cant do that, I don't have a payck yet. He didn't care. NOW theyre giving me a hard time? Really? Lawanda helped me more when I had no income. The guy threatened me saying, "if 'I' don't get 'MY' money by end of day, the car will be repoed". I couldn't believe he treated a CUSTOMER that way. Needless to say, hes no longer w/the company. They repoed the care soon after. Arent they supposed to HELP you IMPROVE your credit, not make it worse? Great job! On top of all this, the towing co they work with DRAGGED the car down the street the WRONG way. Calls are coming in about my balance, which I was overpaying anyway for the piece of crap they sold me. I just laugh at them and hang up. They even bother my references about my balance. I now blocked their calls. I would not advise anyone to go here, ever! Stay away from this company, JD Byrider/CNAC!

J.D. Byrider engine falling apart from the inside

I bought a car from jdbyrider about 2 years ago. I have had to replace the gear shift and now I am without a car. My car shut off on me, would not start back up. I had it towed to a mechanic and they told me that I had a rod in the engine, And that the engine was falling apart. Now granted I do not know how the people before treated the car. But the fact is that it is the responsibility of the car dealership to know the conditions of the car. Also to let the consumer of these problems. Well, we contacted them and they said that they could not refinance me (not that I would want to but as a last resort) unless I had 2, 000 to put down. I didn't have that much when I first got the car, so why the *** would they want that much now. All they did was tell us to call the next day and talk to the mechanic. For what so they can put faulty parts in there and charge me up the you know what. I don't think so. Please be aware of how they are. They take advantage of you. Now I have no car and I have 2 kids. Do you think they really care.

It is quite obvious that they are taking advantage of people with few options. I started having problems the first week I had my car. I lost count how many times I had to take it to the shop while it was still under warranty. Everything that they supposedly fixed never was. Once my warranty expired, I had to pay for a bunch of repairs that were so called "fixed" by JD Byrider. Thank God I had an understanding boss, otherwise I would not have a job because of all the transportation issues I have had. Just recently I had to replace the engine. In the first two years, I've spent over $4000 in car repairs alone and I still owe $3300 on my car. A 2000 Dodge Stratus. They told me this would improve my credit and assured me that I was getting a very reliable car. I am dissapointed, disgusted, appalled, etc. I am honoring the contract and I continue to make my payments on time but the God I serve will take care of this situation way better than I could think of. God have mercy on JD Byrider and all of its employees when they reap what they have sown 10 fold!

J.D. Byrider rip-off artists

My husband and I were struggling with bad credit from our divorces, and JD Byrider seemed to be the only option for us. In Oct 2006, we bought a 1999 Ford Contour from the Mansfield, OH dealership. We knew that the interest rate would be WAY more than with a normal dealership, but our other car at the time was about to go, and we felt we had no other choice.

The car came with the 18 month, 18000 mile warranty...thank GOD...because during the last 18 months of owning the piece of crap, it has been in the shop about a dozen times. Lets see, fuel pump, alternator, fuel pump again (the service mgr said the other guy did it wrong), brake rotors (they fell off in the mech hand), fuel pump AGAIN (mgr said a bad part was used by mistake, which was the least of my problems since I broke down in the middle of the intersection during rush hour), alternator AGAIN (ground wire not secured and it blew it), and the engine light is on constantly (they say it is normal to have faulty lights and/or fuses). There is more, but those are the highlights.

To top it off, the management (not at the store, but at the district office) is rude, obnoxious, and bullies. We have made numerous complaints about the car, and even tried to trade it in to get a car from a reputable dealer. They told us to pay on it another year to get our amount owed down under $5000 and they would take some off the amount owed so we could trade it in. We have been paying for it for 18 months, and we still owe almost three times what it is worth!

We are in the process of trying to decide what to do. All I can tell you is PLEASE DO NOT buy from them. They know they have you over a barrel, and they have no problems reminded you of it OFTEN. Take the bus, buy a piece of crap with cash, something. Believe me when I say you will be fixing one of their cars more than you would be your piece of crap that you don't owe any money on!

Pennsylvania Residents: The Attorney General's office is requesting that anyone that has had a problem with JD Byrider/CNAC submit a claim via their website: http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/Complaints.aspx. According to the agent, that I spoke to, "the more information we have, the better position we stand to address the negligence and poor business practices. I have filed claims both within my state and through the National Consumer Protection Agency.

The more voices they hear, the more likely the are to act against this predatory lender. It makes me sick to see what they are doing to people that are already in a delicate situation.

I have a 2003 Mercury Sable that is sitting behind my apartment unable to move because I refuse to put another dime into it. I spoke to a tow truck driver, in my area of PIttsburgh, that told me he picks up, no less, than 5-7 JD Byrider cars a week.

Enough is enough.

I would recommend to all the bloggers here to alert the Attorney General's office in your state and also file a national claim. Give this a voice, besides posting on blogs. Let the government know what they are doing. The more voices in their ears, the more likely they are to act.

We may not be able to sue the pants off of this company, but the federal and state governments can force the company to face their demons and make significant changes or close them down completely.

I Bought my car from the Kernersville, NC location in 2008. I was happy to have a car that works. in march of this year I had to take the car to an AAMCO Transmissions shop to have the car fixed. the guy said it's good that you drought it to us because your warranty is expired and they would charge you more for the repairs. I paid $675 for the repairs to my car. Then I have problems with my OBD system and spent $178 to fix those problems. no the car runs bad, it won't pass inspection and thy overcharged me for the car. my loan was for $11, 000. the car is worth only $3, 200. it's a 1999 Chevy Lumina. I know that part of this problem is my responsibility but I needed a car really bad. I will never refer anyone to them.

I just bought a 2000 chevy impala from mansfield location. What a mistake I had to take it to another jd byrider location because of the air bag light coming on. The guy pulled the codes and said it was for the air bag, the anti lock brakes and of all things the transmission, which happens to jerk when it goes into gear. So I had to take it back to the location i bought it from and he said he cant find anything wrong with the car, and that its not pulling any codes. hmmmm so now my check engine light is on and this morning on the way to work it just quit dead on me. All the wanna do is give you the run around, and act like its your fault!

OMG I have a 1998 Ford Contour from them in Pittsburgh PA and my story, while different parts, is exactly the same. Mine broke down 18 minutes after I bought it. I tried to return it, and they acted like I committed a crime. How dare me ask to return it. They talked me into keeping it and it is the sorriest thing I have ever done. I tried to trade mine and after two years I owe over 4000.00 and the piece of crap is work 500.00. In addition to that, try to get an appointment to service it. I asked for a state inspection the last week of March, expiring March 31 and was told the soones was April 22. The recommended I take it to a further JD. If I wanted to go there, I would have bought it there. EVERYONE STAY AWAY...PUT THEM OUT OF BUSINESS...

J.D. Byrider Do not buy from JD Byrider

I purchased a vehicle from JD Byrider in July of 2007 and was told at that time that if I made all of my payments on time that Russ Darrow their co-company would guarantee me financing into a brand new vehicle. I had all my payments directly withdrawn never was late or missed a payment in over a year. I went back after my year was up and they told me that I could not trade in my vehicle until I paid off almost the full balance. I paid $11, 000 for vehicle that isn't worth half of that. I wish there was some way I could get out from under the horrible debt.

I've just been a victim to this company, without knowing they are shady. I only had my car for less than a month missed one payment they set my account up for repo after I trade in my car as well as put 200 down I'm only 2 payments in and now I'm left with no transportation. This should be against the law. If anyone went through this situation and had a lawyer can I please get the info?

J.D. Byrider deceptive practices!

I would not do business with Russ Darrow ever. First of all, my dealings started with Russ Darrow when I saw the commercials that guaranteed if you made a if you had $99 down they would finance a new car for you regardless of credit. I guess there is a disclaimer that flashes that states you may have to pay more. I'm not sure how they can guarantee financing with $99 down and then put up a disclaimer that says the opposite. Just your normal deceptive practice from Russ Darrow. It's just another way to get you in the door. So I tried to get approved ahead of time and they made me come in only to try to send me to JDByrider. What they won't tell you is Russ Darrow owns the JDByrider as well as CNAC the finance company that finances for JDByrider. We'll get into CNAC later.

Anyway, being angry at the deceptive ad I left and went home. I then called a different Russ Darrow dealership and asked specifically about the ad. Again they asked me to come in (a 40 mile trip by the way). I told them about my prior experience and told them I wouldn't come down unless they ran my credit and told me whether I could be approved before I came. He took all my information (income, SSN, etc.) and called me back and said they could help me. So I got in my car and drove the hour to get there so I could sit there for over an hour and be told they couldn't help me and I should go to JD Byrider. At that point I was really pissed and decided to go to Byrider because my other car had broken down and I needed a car right away. If I had known they were owned by the same person I would never have went.

Ok, so now for JDByrider... worst place ever! First of all, they will sit you down and go over your credit like your some kind of criminal. Bright light and all! Now it's understandable that they need to be careful because they people who buy cars from them but since your gonna rape us over price and financing you may as well be nice to us. They should be buying people movie and a dinner as hard as they are screwing people. Don't even try to compare what they are charging you for the car to blue book price. That just angers them. As soon as I mentioned the blue book price the finance person basically stated that the cars are priced higher than what they are worth because people with bad credit have no other option. In a way, I guess he's right. I needed a car that night and they were my only option. Come to find out they were way overcharging for the car. But what can i say, needed a car right away.

Now let's talk about CNAC... these people are worse than any debt collector you have ever faced. First of all, they set up my payments to be paid on the week before my payday. I called and they agreed to set up the payments to be paid a week later which was when I got paid. This was fine, except that every damn week I would get phone calls asking when I would pay. Not only would they call me but they would call everyone on the list of references that I gave them for when I applied for financing. I guess they weren't intelligent enough to put a note in my account or if there was one they weren't intelligent enough to read it. I finally had to threaten to drive the car to them and leave it before they figured out how to stop harassing me and my friends or family. And if do have any difficulty making a payment they will threaten to ruin your credit and sue you for twice what you owe on the vehicle. And we're not talking months late, we're talking a couple weeks late.

So why do I write this. Because today I spoke to the ignorant people at CNAC again. I have 5 payments left. Sonia, who is an account manager, stated that each time I paid late because of the difference in my payday and the due date it was costing $45 extra every paycheck. I explained that that wasn't possible because my contract specifically stated there were no late fees. She stated that the extra was due to interest. Again I explained thats not possible. She basically stated I paid twice the interest on the principle for that 7 day period. I guess the basic principles of accounting were missing in her training, because I tried to explain to her that although I accrue more interest because the principle hasn't decreased, that does not mean I get charged interest twice on the principal. She then put another manager idiot named Kathy who also was lacking in any basic accounting skills. But it was Kathy who angered me the most when she told me that I would be back to buy another car from them. Which I definitely will not. I did check my balance and I will have to make one extra payment of @ $120. Which is what I expected.

I write this because I have seen many other people who have had the same experience with Russ Darrow, JD Byrider, and CNAC. If one person reads this and decides not to buy a car from them my job is done. Do yourself a favor, if your credit is really bad try going to one of these smaller dealerships that do in house financing. You'll probably get a better car, a better deal, and you'll be treated much better.

JRthecarguy obviously works for either JDByrider, Russ Darrow, or CNAC. I've known people who have gone to JD Byrider and I can tell you, I haven't met one who was satisfied, much less 95%.

A person with bad credit is obviously subject to higher interest, but that does not mean people should be harrassed or treated badly. Also, dealers, or anyone, who takes advantage of people with poor credit and charges higher prices because they know they have a customer who has no other choice is simply without morals. You are right people with poor credit should pay more, but that additional cost should and does come through higher interest rates. Gouging customers simply because you can is simply wrong and greedy.

And before you listen to JRthecarguy about the "warranty" do an internet search and you'll find people who have found it impossible to get JDByrider to live up to their warranty.

And, I think there should be something that requires that the dealer disclose that the finance company and the dealer is actually owned by the same company. It seems a little fishy that they seem to hide the relationship between Russ Darrow, JDByrider, and CNAC.

My suggestion for you is this: rather than go to JDByrider where you know they will rip you off; go to some of the smaller independant used car dealers that offer in house financing and see if they can help you. You will find that many of them will take your downpayment and work with you to buy a car that you would have to pay twice as much to buy at JD Byrider. Personally, I won't even go to Russ Darrow dealerships for a new car (and I have credit that I can) because of their deceptive practices with JDByrider and CNAC.

I’m about three years in with my car from jd byrider and it has been a great car. I love the car, hate the company. They’re never to be found if there’s an issue but when they need to contact you, it’s boarderline harrassment. Anyways...my boyfriend got a speeding ticket the other day and so I called to get proof of insurance. I pay $36 every two weeks for what I thought was insurance. I was told I had to have that before driving off the lot. Today I found out it was just collateral insurance for if I default on the loan or I wreck my car, to cover their end. So I basically haven’t had insurance this entire time. I’m beyond pissed. By law I’m reading if the loan is paid off they must return that collateral. Something tells me they won’t.

I'm filing an harassment complaint against CNAC Brookfield, WI. Their account managers are calling my sister, first of all I never gave them her number! Second, they have a number to reach me about payments. However, I spoke with my account representative, Charlotte Wilson, [protected], ext. 2139, I asked her to remove my sister's number from their call list, I explained to her, how did they get her number? I never ever gave them permission to contact her. Charlotte told me she would have it removed, she never stated how they have her number. Here we go again, this morning my sister called to tell me a lady from CNAC is calling trying to get in touch with me. I called Charlotte Wilson this morning, left a voice mail to let her know to once again remove my sisters number from their CONTACT LIST! Yes, I'm using bold letters, because this will be the 2nd time, I have requested to stop calling my sister! I am not happy with CNAC, I'm really sorry I financed my vehicle with CNAC. The nerve of them to take it upon themselves to contact my family member. Account representative name Jeff, not sure of his location South 27th Street, Brookfield or Madison, he has the nerve to suggest, I reach out to my family to make this missed payment! The nerve of this annoying guy! Great news! My car will be paid in full very soon, I can say gladly say, Good Bye and Good riddance CNAC! I will never, never, ever, ever finance with this company EVER again! I advise and encourage anyone else not to!

I think most of you are mistaken. JD and Cnac are two different companies. They are not a buy here pay here. JD charges more for the cars to profit like any dealer, in fact most cars are not much more than BB value. Also their warranty which does cover the engine, drive train, and transmission (not rentals or other small stuff like typical warranties, ) is included in the cost of the car. Most dealers will charge an additional 3-4k for a similar warranty. The finance company, CNAC is who charges the interest that can vary now as low as 14% I believe. The reason CNAC charges so much for interest is because they are a subprime lender. If they gave all credit stellar rates, then the company would just have to go bankrupt because of repeat offenders. Like any other used car dealer, you're buying a used car. Things are likely to happen. If you want to be prepared if your car breaks down and need a rental, then get AAA, a plan on your insurance, etc., The program does help build your credit if you use it properly, but you have to have a little bit of common sense...

Just a note ..(positive) I'm a normal person with bad credit .. I had no choice but to go with JD ( Madison WI). . I just bought my 2nd car from them last night ... no choice really. I have dealt with car dealers for 30 years, with good credit. Yes .. they charge you 14k for a 6k car. yes 22% interest, pick your car wisely, follow the rules on payments. As for the warranty... My first car I bought has had a few problems, but the head mechanic is great. In and out for the $25 dollar copay on the Warranty. One repair was not covered .. and it was well within what I expected to pay. I have even had a few items fixed for no charge that they could have charged for. Free Oil changes for a year, 20 bucks after the year. I am not happy having to pay that much for a used car, but when you have no choice, deal with it. I am happy with the service.. I know I have bad credit .. and I can say everyone was very nice to me. not saying you wont have issues but I have not.

To be fair...

When you view your glass as half full you see the benefits of the JD Byrider experience. You can have less than good credit and receive the opportunity to own a newer used car. You receive the opportunity to build your less than good credit with an affordable loan based on the information you've provided at the time of purchase. The car you are receiving has a better service guarantee and has had more money invested into the repairs of that vehicle prior to sale than most used car dealerships offer. Yes the price is higher but you are getting something for it.

When you view your glass as half empty you see the negatives of the JD Byrider experience. You haven't been treated fairly or were duped into something. You missed payments for whatever reason and instead of taking care of it right away with a phone call or visit you let it lapse or make a crazy ranting complaint or phone call. You forget calm rationality can solve almost an issue.
Or you have real problems with your used car and instead of remembering its a used car, you storm in or call complaining about how you think your used car was a new car and should be trouble free...oh yeah, i remember now...used cars and new cars are different...ones new and costs more.

Or you can view your glass with reality...and remember...your glass has been twice as big as it needs to be all along...you have the control...fill it all the way...or don't complain when you haven't.

That is all

IMPORTANT! IF YOU ARE FED UP WITH JD BYRIDER, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! READ THE ENTIRE MESSAGE BELOW AND PASS THE INFORMATION ALONG.

I was never a customer with JD Byrider, however someone I know purchased a vehicle from them. Whenever she was late with her payments I received repeated phone calls from JD Byrider’s employees. Sometimes I received up to five calls in one day. When I asked, why were they repeatedly calling me? I was told “you are listed as a reference”. I informed the employee that I had nothing to do with the loan and asked that I be removed from their contact list. The employee grew hostile and informed me that because I was used as a reference, JD Byrider had a legal right to contact me. She even threatened to have JD Byrider’s employees show up at my door everyday if they chose to do. So, because the party (JD Byrider’s customer) listed me as a reference (not a co-signer) they have the legal right as a debt collection agency to come to my home as long as the debt remains unpaid. She also told me that if I talked nicely to her she might remove my phone number from their contact list. I hung up the phone and blocked all of JD Byrider's phone numbers so that they would not be able harass me further.

I've since launched an investigation of JD Byrider and I am appalled to learn that they have over 300 complaints listed on message boards across the Internet. While understanding message board complaints only inform consumers to be wary of businesses, they do not protect the rights of consumers who are preyed on by companies such as JD Byrider. Poor consumers and consumers with less than perfect credit do have legal rights and should not allow themselves to be intimidated and victimized by loan shark companies such as JD Byrider.

In this instance, JD Byrider has made the wrong harassing phone call and has threatened the wrong person. I am well aware of the laws and legal rights of consumers. As such, after being repeatedly harassed, I have filed complaints with the Federal Trade Commission, my State Congressman, State senator, State's Attorney General and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. As a result, I have since received confirmation from all of these entities that they are currently investigating my complaint. Additionally, I wrote a letter to the ACLU and the NAACP requesting an investigation into the practices of JD Byrider as it pertains to race. Based on my experience with the ignorance and tactics of JD Byrider’s employees, there's bound to be gross consumer, human and civil rights violations.

Consumers or individuals listed as references who are currently or have been repeatedly harassed by JD Byrider’s employees in the past should file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, your State and County Attorney General, your State Congressman, State Senator and Richard Cordray of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

Pursuant to the Dodd-Frank Act, the CFPB has the authority to take action against institutions and/or individuals who engage in unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices or who otherwise violate federal consumer financial laws.

Richard Cordray of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau fined DriveTime, one of the biggest used auto companies who prey on the poor and on people who have bad credit. The fine resulted in an 8 million dollar settlement against DriveTime. JD Byrider uses the very same tactics and consequently the same violations are potentially being committed. It's possible that CFPB’s investigation of JD Byrider will have a similar outcome as did DriveTime.

Per Richard Cordray: “Consumers who purchase a car at a buy-here, pay-here dealer deserve to be treated fairly”, DriveTime harassed and harmed countless consumers, many of whom were economically vulnerable.

You should also contact a good consumer law attorney and have him/her look over the contract you signed with JD Byrider as it is possible they may have violated Consumer Protection Regulation “Z” and other consumer contract statutes.

What is Regulation Z? It is a specific Federal Reserve Board regulation that requires debt lenders to disclose all the specifics of a given loan. This was done to promote a level of credit protection for the underlying consumer.

To file your complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau please write:

Or send your letter by Fax [protected]

Here's the thing it shouldn't matter what your credit is to people who have not gotten a vehicle from them or had to deal with CNAC .No one should ever have to go threw the disrespect the rudeness nor harassment they put people threw yes people with bad creditshould have to pay a little more everyone gets that and agrees but no one knows what happens in someone's life things happen that you have no control over when they tell you they don't care if your on your death bed you need to have that payment in now come on that is just very cold and heartless I've never known of any place or Bill collector to treat people that way
