Costco bad customer service

We went to shop at costco this afternoon when we are already a fan of costco.
However, we met this cashier woman, rowene, who treated us very impolitely.
(actually, not only us, but also two old ladies in front of us!)
Maybe she is trying to be the "queen" of the cashier department, but she doesn't have good customer service skills.

Hopefully, we won, t see her there anymore, or we rather have no more costco shopping!

While I agree that the customer is definitely not always right Sheila, that doesn't mean it's okay for customers to be treated rudely.

Costco rude arrogant employee

I was in the Reno store yesterday with my wife and daughter. We shop there every 2 weeks. We buy things for our household (my daughter lives with us). It is always our custom to seperate the groceries 3 ways, and each of us pays seperately. This has never been a problem for the last 16 months we have shopped here. The clerk, Michael B. took my card and when my groceries were all checked, started scanning my wifes groceries which were seperated. I told him to stop, I was just paying for my items. He very smuggly told me we couldn't use the card for each of our groceries, that was Costco policy, and he kept scanning my wifes items. I didn't understand what he was talking about, I couldn't pay for all the items with my debit card, and he completely ignored me, rolling his eyes and smiling. He then told me he would subtotal my items, and kept scanning, now my daughters items. I still did not understand how he would be able to just charge my debit card for my items, but he ignored my questions. When he was done scanning everything, he said I could pay now, just for my items. We were leaving and I asked when Costco started this policy ( again, we always get individual receipts) and he said it was always that way. I asked if he was a new employee and he sais he had been there six years. I went to the customer service desk and asked when Costco started this, that in the past my family always used the same card seperately, and she said they were trying to prevent people from using someone elses card and avoid paying for membership. This has never been enforced by any cashier in the approx 50 visits I have made to this Costco. The cashier Michael B. was rude, arrogant and in no way should he be allowed to interact with the members of Costco. There are a lot of people looking for employment in the Reno area, and a rude employee should be let go and hire someone with customer service skills.

Costco's corporate office does not like to separate the items or make multiple transaction due to their KPI reports. When they make multiple transaction for one customer it lowers their ticket average, which inturn looks bad to investors.
This is a bad practice because many of us when filing taxes like to deduct some of our business purchases, this in time will only hurt Costco. For Costco to wake up they have to have new blood at the top of the company before they will relize their mistake.

I was at Costco yesterday, alone
I was trying to make a purchase or groceries and a purchase of some computer electronics.
I wanted a separate bill for the computer equipment because I file those away for tax purposes.
I placed my items on the belt with a separator.
The cashier won't let me do 2 separate bills.
In the end I bought the groceries, left the $900 of computer equipment on the belt, walked across the carpark to canada computers, spent my $900 there and went home.
Maybe these idiots will one day understand that the membership fee is a gouge and that retail sales is more important.
Or maybe they won't and be all out of a job when they can't compete anymore.
Either way won't bother me, there's a lot of other places to buy what I need.

After 17 years with Costco we have finally dropped our membership. Costco has been abusive, harrassing and even physical with us (we travel the U.S. in a motorhome full time so each store had a different method). The problem is: we have a $50 Gold Star membership. They don't want that. They want us to change to the $100 Executive membership. We can't buy enough stuff to warrant a 2% rebate because of limited motorhome space. Try telling them no. We have read that employees are "Teamster" union, therefore they feel empowered to treat customers badly. Since they are not educated in the "customer service" or "sales" fields, you find yourself in a Jerry Springer type of world everytime you go. Unless of course you anti up. Not for us. We have better places to shop.

You must realize that literally hundreds of people claim that "you have done it for me before!"

My first job was as a cashier, and we had strict cash only policies for money orders and lottery. Almost everything other person claimed that they had been allowed to break those rules before.

Bruce in Reno: Just a heads-up they change policy or how they interact with customers all the time.
Best solutionfor your problem, go to the customer service desk and have cards made for your wife and daughter.
I did this with my family with no additional cost.

Costco customer service & policy

Complaint: We needed a new bed mattress and decided to go with one at costco. It was our first costco experience so we joined. They day my wife wanted to pick up the bed I was out of town. She loaded the trailer and headed to costco. She immediately asked how she should go about getting the bed mattress, king size, and was told to get a cart and someone would meet her on the isle. She asked if anyone could load it and was told no but they would put it on the cart for her and roll it to the front while she finished her shopping. 30 minutes later she finally rounded up someone to get the mattress from the shelf and load her cart. The original request for help never showed. The guy loaded the cart and started to walk off. My wife asked if he was going to take it up front and he said 'No, just roll it to the front, its easy', something to that nature. By the time she reached the front of the store w/ a cart loaded down with a king size mattress slight damage most likely had been done to products that hit the floor as the mattress scraped down the isles, as one would expect. After her purchase at the front she asks for help loading and waited again. Finally someone walked out to the truck and trailer with her and helped her load the king size mattress on the trailer then proceeded to leave. She asked if they were going to secure it in any way and they replied that it's not Costco's policy. They are not allowed to secure anything, only load, for liability. Now, this is my biggest complaint aside from the lack of help and customer service. Never have I ever shopped anywhere that needed something secured that had such a policy, nor the horrible customer service. Lowes, Sears... I've never heard of such! If Costco wants my money, then provide some customer service. If your not going to do this then why sale such large items at your stores, stick to the internet / e-commerce! Anyway, my wife tried for a long time to get help in the parking lot to strapping the mattress down. She had her straps and was ready but needed one single hand to hold the hook on one side while she cranked down the other side. In this area, where people have more money than heart, people just walked by and starred. She then went to ask for help just to hold down the strap and they wouldnt have to play any other part in securing the product to our trailer and they said they could not. By this time over 2 hours have passed since she entered Costco with the only shopping being this one item. She called me on the phone crying because she didnt know what to do. I told her to go in and have them come get the mattress, give us our money and membership back, and go home. Then I called Costco myself from out of town. I asked them about all this and why they could not just at least hold down one end of the strap with one finger? They said they could probably do that and put me on hold. I eventually hung up after several minutes of waiting. Shortly after someone exited the store and approached my wife with a document stating their policy on not helping their customers secure merchandise purchased from Costco, then went back inside. If this would have been me I would backed my trailer thru the front door of Costco and pushed the mattress off and made a big scene. The end of the story ends shortly after a family member comes to the store to help my wife because by this time she was not in a state to go back in the store or deal w/ returning it. She just wanted to be done and let me take it back when I could. I have so many issues complaints about the first experience with Costco but my biggest is their policy and customer service. I never thought I'd see the day where businesses that want your money have this attitude. What happened to customer service. It Costco understood what customer service means, they would not even have such a policy and train their employees at it as well. So, someone sued Costco or something happened along the way w/ an employee not securing merchandise properly at some point? Most likely. I have to assume they wouldn't have this policy going into the business. It's part of doing business. If you can't provide customer service and way for your customers to get their merchandise home, then why are you selling it? So does Costco deliver items you purchase in the store? No. Your on your own unless you shop online. I'll never purchase another item from Costco and I will be spreading this like a disease as the internet marketer that I am. Thanks Costco!

Lets hope that your wife simply needed the mattress loaded on the trailer from the store and secured for the ride home, while help was going to show up later at home to help her unload and set it up. That isnt asking too much.
But it truly is poor planning on her side to think these people would help. Its been a policy of these types of stores for years now (im 40) and I recall as a young person in my early 20's, no one is going to help you tie down a large purchase. They dont want to be liable if the item "falls" out of your trailer and causes a major accident on the highway. Unfortunate for your wife, there were no "gentlemen" around to offer to help. Its the world we live in. Either teach your boys how to be real men, or as we get older, we have to do things ourselves. Im a lady and I will stop to help someone in need because I have been fortunate to meet people like this. Amazing isnt it?

Costco terrible costco tire center

Two years ago, I tried to replace 4 COSTCO tires at etobicoke COSTCO Tire centre but they refused the service because my rims are aftrmarket and they didn't have special tools also they did not touch any aftermarket rims. But I didn't giveup. I went to Missisauga COSTCO TireCentre, They replaced my 4 tires to COSTCO Tires with "no problem". I don't know how to appliciate thier great service.

Six month ago, I tried to get tire rotate my COSTCO Tire as COSTCO service manual (10, 000km) at Etobicoke COSTCO Tire Centre. They said my tires are worn out only 1mm and ask me visit them again when next oil change.

Yesterday (Jan. 7. 2011), I tried to get tire rotation and engin oil change. They only changed engin oil but refused tire rotation service because my rims are aftrmarket and they didn't have special tools also they did not touch aftermarket rims as COSTCO POLICY. Also They said Mississauga COSTCO got against COSTCO Policy (It was illigal), they SHOULD NOT HAVE that kind of tools and SOULD NOT TOUCH aftermarket Rims as the COSTCO POLICY. Also when they explained the situation, There was ONLY Thier ASSERT, Sound like "We do not carry out of your car anymore at ETOBICOKE Tire CENTER". Also, I ask them "Even small car repair shop can rotate my tires, why you can't ", Here was their attitude "hey, hey, hey, LISTEN...brabrabra, Understand my english"

" If you want to get tire rotation, bring your car to Mississauga Costco" "That's it, Do not ask me again". I really wonder whether if I got a big mistake for my right (customer service) as COSTCO Member or not.

On Jan.11. 2011, I went to small car repair shop for tire rotation, I got a such great service which the big company Etobicke

COSTCO has not. It took 10 minutes and I paid 25$. I could not go to MISSISSAUGA COSTCO for free tire rotation, because it is far from my home.

I GOT NIGHTMARE with THIER TERRIBLE SERVICE at ETOBICOKE COSTCO TIRE CENTRE. I will share this information to everywhere, make known publicly.

Costco horrible quality, terrible assembly nightmare costco furniture experience

This was another poor experience buying furniture from Costco. I disaster. I am very good with tools, have even done contractor work and this is just terrible. The chairs do not go together at all, it took tie downs to BEND the rib frame in a way that you can TRY to get a screw in the hole.

I am so furious, I am planning on going to Costco tomorrow and cutting up my card and handing it to the store manager.

I am also just going to dispute the charge on my credit card and send them certified letter that they have 7 days to retrieve the merchandise before I dispose.

I am beyond furious with another terrible experience buying furniture from Costco. I won't even get into the previous experience that took 4 months to get a credit, have damaged office furniture still. Many days were disrupted over this.

Apparently I did not learn.

Costco pharmacy abuse; pills stolen

My boyfriend's perscription was shorted 20 out of 70 pills at Costco Pharmacy in Issaquah; they even stored it in a smaller bottle. I was right beside him when we counted it. Costco claims to have "recounted 3 times" and refuses to admit any fault, which can only mean ONE thing; my boyfriend's medicine (which, by the way, is the strength of morphine) was STOLEN by someone in a white coat, someone we should have been able to trust. My boyfriend is unable to get the proper care he needs and is now lying in bed, pale, cold, sweating, SUFFERING, because a Costco Pharmacist stole his medicine. Pick up your medicine here if you like, but I would advise counting your pills out right in front of the cashier. Who cares if they think it's 'annoying'? This is your health we're talking about here. Don't let Costco Pharmacy abuse you.

And, YES, Costco, I'm going to post this review everywhere I can find! What you have done to my boyfriend is disgusting, and I will fight to the end for this.

Costco fraudulent email pricing

I received an email from Costco.com stating that I could purchase a Verizon Wireless Droid X either in the Warehouse stores or online for $99.99 and the price was good for either a new activation or qualified 2 year upgrade (which is what I wanted) as long as I brought in a copy of the email. I attempted to obtain this price at 2 different warehouse stores (Lancaster and Westlake Village) and was told at both stores that they did not care what the email showed their price for an upgrade was $149.99. I also attempted to obtain the price on Costco’s web site and it was also $149.99. I emailed Costco and they replied that they agreed with me that the price should be $99.99 and they would refer my email to the Costco employee that is the contact with the company that runs the wireless kiosks in the stores. That was the last I heard from them.

Costco don't use them

Do not use/purchase Costco debit machines it is the worst mistake I have made so far in my business. We had one installed a few months ago and signed a 3 year contract and now we find out they cannot take more than a 5 number pin and cannot take a chip as of yet "but they are working on it". 70% of our customers have 6-7 numbers in their pin and 90% have chip cards. The bank doesn't issue non chip cards anymore and now we have to inconvenience our customers and tell them to go use a atm... I tried to speak with them and was very rudely told I can wait until they feel like updating or cancel contract for a $250 fee. So now I have to pay a fee for something that doesn't have a use unless my customer wishes to use visa which is more expensive for me but makes Elavon more money! A $250 fee to cancel... $250.00 worth of advertising isn't going to fix the campaign I am about to embark!

Costco deceptive coupon printing

On Wednesday, January 19, 2011 we did some shopping at the Lakewood COSTCO store. Among our grocery list was Pork Loin as we had a $4.00 off coupon. At checkout, all the other coupons were listed on the receipt except for the Pork
On the following day, 01/20/2011, we went to the return desk to get credit for the coupon. However we were told the coupon was not good for the item number we bought (73616). The receptionist at the desk pointed out the item numbers that would be applicable.
Where? On the coupon. Where on the coupon?
The item numbers (33956, 16141, 37401 & 37402) were printed in a very light gray and basically unreadible without a magnifying glass. As a matter of fact, a magnifying glass HAD to be used to read the item numbers for this complaint.
As you can see by the attached scan, the almost impossible to read restrictions could be considered deceptive advertising. Your advertising department obviously selected an almost unreadable color so a more expensive item would be purchased instead.

Costco never get your item and crappy customer service

Do not buy anything online form costco! They use third party vendors and then do not follow up. Over a month after my husband ordered a wine fridge for a christmas present for me we still had heard nothng. After doing a lot of legwork ourselves and then spending 40 mins on hold and trying to deal with a super lame customer service person this is what we got: fridge was dmaged and sent back by cargo carrier (Who knows if we ever would have been notified as that was 4 weeks before we called) they had not "processed the return". They could place a brand new order but it was a min of 10 business days and they could not guarantee that item would be ok but they would refund it if it was not. Lovely. Barely an apology. Instead it was basically our fault for ordering - here are some quotes:“well – these things happen”, “we cannot guarantee shipment when it is a 3rd party”, “we don’t control their cargo carrier” etc. Practically blamed us for buying it and kept going on about it being from new york and “well, I need to understand this was being shipped across the country so this could happen again”. She told me the best they could do is estimate 10 business days and they could only find out if any discount would be offered after we received the item. Beyond ridiculous. I pointed out that none of this information about the obvious risk she was refrring to about where it was being shipped form, 3rd party etc as pon their site when you ordered the item and the consumer just thought they were ordering from costco. "well we will refund any item you are not satisfied with though". Great. How about working on satisfying the customer in the 1st place!

Stealth Pilot, you stated that “every retailer has 30 days to deliver your product by law.” The original post never mentioned which state this transaction took place in. Therefore, I can only assume that you are making reference to a federal law. Which federal statute states that “every retailer has 30 days to deliver your product by law?” Please provide an appropriate citation otherwise stop playing armchair lawyer. It’s people like you that cause folks to represent themselves pro se and get skewered.

Regardless, are you an attorney? If not, do you realize that the unlicensed practice of law may be a criminal offense? Do you realize that providing incorrect legal advice may well bring about lawsuits against your person?

Costco new rotation method a falacy

On the subject of the gentleman from Glendale, who had poor service from Mr. Lopez, I just think the whole recent idea of best tires on the back is a real hoot. So, this is not "hearsay", as Eucommia so eloquently suggests. Also, it's not about buying four tires if the person can only afford two at a time. How about considering the individual here, for once, and not trying to speak for them. The economy is poor-and has been-for many of us. Such a line as Eucommia's "buy 4 tires and there won't be any issues" is of no consideration, therefore, and
neither, then, is his opinion. I worked in tire & auto services for years. That was in the "ancient" times when we actually thought that the best tires should go on the front, since the front takes all the wear and tear, curves, and the average everyday front-wheel drive being the center of control. How crazy we really must have been, huh? Another gentleman here mentions hydroplaning and how placing the best tires on the back controls this-and traction. True, however, by doing such happens not to control the hydroplane and traction of the front, which is where your power, again, is located. If I'm sliding on ice or snow, do I want the better tires on the front or back? Ask yourself such a question. A little fish-tailing in the back is hardly going to cause an accident. By placing the best on the back, we're putting the sled before the dogs ... literally. If you look up the statistics, such reported accidents have risen nationally SINCE this "regulatory" measure. Another thing about this is how the companies are relating the whole thing to government regulating. This is not true. The government only suggests such, this isn't a law. The reason why so many tire dealers are copping out on it is because, well ... it sells more tires. The front tires always receive the most wear, so if you find new reasons not to replace them, the wear will only increase, of course. However,
so does the danger of driving on them. However, even when we were placing the best on the front, the customer had the right to decline. This tactic is just another one of those being used to push the consumer into purchasing. The only problem is that this is exactly what doesn't work, when it comes to winning over customers. I recently stopped in our local Omaha Costco. I've only had good service from this store. In fact, I've had better service in this location than
any other Costco in any city I've frequented and the staff is very courteous. So, here's the story: I have a used Chevy Impala and knew it was going to need tires when I recently purchased it. I hadn't
noticed the really poor shape of the rear ones, though, which were actually worse than the front. My bad. So, when I asked if I could have a rotation, since I'd noticed the fronts weren't in the greatest of shape, they declined, due the shape of the rears. Just call me Mr. Myopic. They told me that they could only rotate these if I replaced the rear, as they should have said. So, this is completely justified. Again, my bad. The car is front-wheel drive, of course, and I wanted good tires on the front. Due to budgeting, I was going to have to wait a bit to replace the the other set. So, they replaced the rears ... and then told me that the best tires have to stay on the rear-? Wait, but you just said ... . Confusing? Yes, a bit. So, I was being misinformed. They sold the tires to me, but were less than straight about how they'd be handling this situation, giving me the idea that I was going to rotate after replacement. So, I had to take this, now being stuck (yes, to all you non-believers - stuck!) I had great tires on the back and, still, the less than so on the front. Back to square one. Costco - 1 Me-0 A snow hit right after this, though, and what do you think happpened? Well, I had no traction, was hydroplaning, couldn't get through at all, cars passing me, my car sliding all over. After twice getting caught in the snow on a side street, I was able to pull out but had to back up about a block, which was okay, since there was no traffic. The back tires
handled this reverse fantastically well! Too bad I just can't drive in reverse everywhere-and it's not even a rear-wheel drive! Costco still says it did the right thing and won't switch them. Blah! Blah! Blah! Oh, the tangled web we weave. I used to get angry with such things. Now, I just get back, which is why I'm writing this, in the first place. Since I am economically challenged at the moment, I'm driving my old Honda, which has old tires, all still working better than the Impala's mix of old and new. Oh, and I'm not shopping at the Omaha Costco anymore. As much as I'm NOT a Sears fan, by any means, I may need to use 'em a bit more ... at least for tires. That is where I'll be
buying the second pair, in case Eucommia would like to know.

Well you can say what you want, argue and complain but the truth of the matter is that it comes down to liability. Michelin lost a lawsuit where a woman in Georgia i beleve, bought 2 tires and they were placed on the front, leaving worn tires on the rear. the vehicle hydroplaned, spun out and lost control due to no traction on the rear. she was paralyzed from the neck down. Anyhow, in the litigation that followed, it was determined by highway patrol accidnet investigators that if the new tires were place in the rear, this accidnet very likley wouldnt have happend. The Lawyers for the plaintiff went after the installer, and the installer of course, pointed the finger at michelin saying that they were unaware of any such policy, and michelin never told them anything. So hey found michelin liable, and awarded the woman 32 million dollars. They went after michlein im sure becuase thats where the money was, not the tire shop, wich by the way was was a small firm, not a big corporation like costco. If that was costco, costco would have payed that, and probably michelin would have to part with some money too, but the point is a liablity, and no company ever wants to have any potential lawsuit like this. And dont say, "well they could sign a waiver". You could, but what if that driver injured another motorist? They didnt sign that waiver. Then the other motorist could hold costco liable. its not a scam to sell more tires. You have more control over the front of the car, by braking and steering. you have limited braking in the rear, and no control over the steering in the rear. Thats the reason new tires go in the rear and not the front. Personally, i dont care where you put the new tires, its not my car anyways, but its just something that has to be done.

Costco poor packaging for transport

Ordered a laptop from Costco on line. Unit sent in oversized box (at least 4 times unit volume) with virtually no packing allowing the unit to freely move around in box. When asking for replacement I was advised they no longer offered the laptop and suggested turning it in for rebate. Item was intended as a gift and am now without at this late date. Also it took an additional email to arouse them into responding to my request. I shall never purchase an item from Costco on line, recognizing the manner in which they handle their products and terse servicing.

Costco ebt discrimination

I went to Costco on December 10, 2010 and utilized my EBT card. I share a household with my adult relative. She has a Costco card and when we used my EBT card to pay for the food they would not allow us to utilize her card. However, before we got EBT prior to the economy Costco had no problem using my debit card and her Costco Card. This is unfair and discriminating towards low income individuals. How do you allow one policy to be different because of your income status/payment capabilities and not violate New York Consumer Protection Laws.

Costco costco tires

Bad customer service at Costco Tires in San Juan Capistrano? Yes, definitely. I had purchased tires there and needed them to rebalance a flat I had. The tires manager had an attitude and it got worse. An hour later I complained to a manager Lianne, which went with me to talk to the guy (Ian?) He excused himself telling her that etc, etc, ...Well, another half hour and nothing happens, so I ask for my keys and then suddenly they are free to do it at that moment !?! (they were two to three guys working on one tire?)Maybe it is better when you buy the tires, but when it is a warranty situation NO GO!

Costco terrible customer service

Sequim costco customer service works like a "club" - if they recognize you as being rich or one of their buddies they refund you anything even without a receipt! If you don't fall in that class, you are subject to racial descrimination, sarcasm and ridicule. Costco cares only about money, they could care less about "just being human" - corporate managers do nothing, zero, to help, unless again if you are rich! Sad that a company like this is allowed to stay in business - washington state needs an ombudsman to keep bad companies like costco in check! They spend millions to try to buy an election that allows them to profit even more selling hard liquor but care zero about "the little guy"

I totally agree! Always the very same people that hate their jobs at the customer service desk, they help you only if they recognize you as one of their cronies... COSTCO COULD CARE LESS if they lose a few memberships from people that don't shop too much, they pretty much want only Fat Cats as members.

First of all, you are a total ### for responding to your own post. Second of all, since you have no facts backing up your claims, I am going to assume you are full of it.

Costco 2% rebate check

I had been long time Costco Executive Business member, but for last three years, Costco's 2% check never comes on time. Every time you call they give you run abouts.

for last 6 weeks been calling them, but no response. Went to the Costco Store on manchester road, St.Louis county informed member services, manager on duty NO response.

Today spoke with Mr.Dough Summers, Manager at Costco after run abouts with member services on phone for over 49 minutes. Their supervisor on duty Mr.Travis was most un professional guy, inconsistent with Costco's reputation.

Bottomline, rebate check for 2% is still missing? They have no response, or remedy and expect customers to keep calling them. This is going for atleast for last three years, every year keep calling for check.

Hope BBB, Attorney General's in various states look into this scam. Personally, it's most unrewarding experience to waste time following up for 2% check with those unprofessional persons. is it worth all the time and effort?

Anyone with similar experience ?
