This complaint relates to the consignment process with Camping World. We have owned and sold 3 campers with the last one being sold on consignment with Camping World in Garner, NC. The camper was a 2022 42-foot 5th wheel that had been used 4 times and traveled approx. 300 miles. First, we were given a price for the consignment; however, later we were told there was damage to the underneath of the camper even after we had it serviced and checked prior to paying to deliver it to Camping World. This supposedly impacted the price in a negative way. Second, we were told we would be contacted if someone made an offer. This was not done until after we went onto the website and noticed the camper was marked as "pending". When we contacted Camping World we were told the GM had the authority to change the price and accept the offer. This cost us 14,000.00. After many conversations and emails back and forth with the GM, we settled to be rid of Camping World and not have to pay to move the camper back to our home. We paid the 14,000.00 but it continued to take over 4 weeks to get the sale final after they received our money (started 4/4/2025 and received final payoff notice on 5/6/2025). We had to follow up regularly to receive any information. At the time of sale, we were told Camping World would turn in the plates to NCDMV after we stated we would pick the plates up from the Garner location. They assured us (the GM) that the plates would be turned in. However, due to our horrible experience with them, we reached out on May 27th asking the status of the plates and received an email from the GM stating "We bring plates to DMV in batches typically every 6-8 weeks but outside of that everything is all set on both sides". In November 2025, we received a tax and registration bill from DMV. We returned stating the camper was sold in May 2025 and tags returned by Camping World. Of course, no tags were received by DMV. Reaching back out to Camping World on November 21st and December 5th, we were emailed from the GM stating "I will reach out to our title team to confirm they have turned all plates in. That said, when we turn in plates they do not issue a receipt to us so I would not have a date or anything provided by DMV.". Hearing nothing else, we reached out again on December 11, 2025 and filed a complaint at the corporate headquarters. On December 12, 2025 we received a response from the GM stating "We strive to make the process as easy and pain free as possible which is why when plates are still on the unit we turn them into DMV as a courtesy. We turn plates in bulk and do not get receipts". At no time where we told this was a "courtesy" and we were told the plates would be turned in even after we said we would pick them up.
We are paying the DMV fee and working with DMV to cancel the plates assuring we receive no more charges and/or someone is not driving on plates assigned to us. This whole experience with Camping World has been frustrating and unethical, if not illegal. We will likely own another camper, but WE WILL NOT deal with this company ever again. There are hidden words in contracts, lack of communication, and unethical practices. Beware.
Recommendation: Beware! Go to another company!
